[JS][CS3] Clipboard to variable

Hi Guys,
just want to ask if is somehow possible to get javascript variable from clipboard. I have a filepath as a clipboard content and want to use it as variable in script. Thanx for Your answers.

You cannot access the clipboard directly with JavaScript.
It should be possible with VB, C# or applescript though depending on the OS.

Photoshop 7 - CS3 Clipboard Issue

I have been having this problem with Photoshop 7.0 for a while, where I cannot paste from "Windows" to Photoshop. I often use print screen, and while Paint can paste the screenshot no problem, Photoshop does nothing.
I found a solution that said to apply a registry edit to add:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0]
AlwaysImportClipboard=dword:00000001
I did that and the clipboard did not seem to work. The only time it does work, is sometimes after a fresh restart when PS is first opened. Any time after that the clipboard feature is inoperable.
I finally decided to upgrade to CS3 and was upset to learn that it has the same problem. I applied the registry patch to this install too:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Photoshop\10.0]
AlwaysImportClipboard=dword:00000001
But it still doesnt work. I've seen people complaining about this in forums since 2006. Are you telling me that Adobe has released 3 new PS versions since 7.0 there is still no fix?\

Both systems use DDR400 RAM and both have 1GB each. My virtual memory is system managed on both machines. I'm not sure of my PS memory allocation settings or Scratch Disk Allocations. I can say I have not modified any of these settings from the defaults.

Generally PS is the only program open (aside from running processes, taskbar items, etc.), and perhaps Internet Explorer or Firefox (where I'm usually taking my screenshots).

No memory related errors at all. Both computers have been running fine, with no problems (besides this PS issue).

The MS Paint clipboard/paste workaround always works, with no problem. The PS clipboard paste feature almost never works anymore, and when it does, it's usually only after reboot.

CS3 and the CLIPBOARD

I open an email message that contains an image. Up until now the procedure has been.... right click the image, click copy, switch to photoshop, file /new, edit/ paste, bada boom, bada bing and I have my image in Photoshop.
Along comes CS3.
Now when i try the edit / paste step, CS3 doesn't paste anything.
My current workaround is to open the lowly free windows paint program, paste into paint .... then edit /copy from paint.... and then I can do a file / new / edit paste into photoshop cs3 and it works. A royal pain.
Any workarounds for this CS3 clipboard problem?

It's pretty hard to google this answer. I hope this will help you resolve the photoshop CS3 clipboard integration. This worked on XP and Windows 7.
1. Start RegEdit
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Photoshop\10.0
3. Create a new Key of DWORD type. Give it the name AlwaysImportClipboard and the value of 1
4. Restart Photoshop

Automatically conditionalizing a variable using a script? is this possible?

Hello all,
The TCS 3 documentation states that to suppress the FrameMaker Table Continuation variable from appearing in the online help, you need to conditionalize it and then hide that condition when generating the online help.
I have to convert quite a few books, and there will be thousands of instances of the Table Continuation variable.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use ExtendScript to search for the Table Continuation variable, and then to conditionalize it with a specific condition tag? How complicated would this be to do (for someone who has never used Extendscript)?
I'm posting this question here, because I suspect anyone who is using the FrameMaker integration feature and who also uses this common variable has probably run into this issue before me...

Static or singleton for clipboard handling

Hi Everyone,
I have the below class with static methods for handling the system clipboard in my small application. I've read that when there is a state maintained I should prefer singleton over static methods. So I guess, I should make this class a singleton because of the Clipboard object in it.
Could someone maybe explain it a little bit what is behind this advice and why would it be better in this case ? What situation can occur when these static methods are not good but the singleton would be?
I suppose these methods won't need to be polymorphic in the future, so that's probably not a factor.

If I understand it correctly there is one vote for static, one for singleton and one for none.
EJP, do you mean that there is no need to keep a clipboard reference variable? So instead of this in my class:

Automator - Loop through a text file and process data through a 3rd party software

Just stumbled on Automator the other day (I am a mac n00b) and would like to automate the processing of a text file, line-by-line, using a third party tool. I would like Automator to loop through the text file one line at a time, copy the string and keep as a variable. Next, place the variable data (copied string) into the text field of the 3rd party software for processing. Once the processing is complete, I would like Automator to fetch the next line/string for processing. I see items like "copy from clipboard" and "variables" within the menu but I am not finding much documentation on how to utilizle this tool. Just hear how potentially powerful it is.
The 3rd party software is not a brand name, just something made for me to process text. I may have to use mouse clicks or tabs + [return] to navigate with Automator. A term I heard on Bn Walldie's itunes video series was "scriptable software" for which I don't think this 3rd party app would be.

Good news and bad news...
The good news is that it should be entirely possible to automate your workflow.
The bad news is that it will be a nightmare to implement via Automator, if it's even possible.
Automator is, essentially a pretty interface on top of AppleScript/Apple Events, and with the pretty interface comes a certain stranglehold on features. Knowing how to boil rice might make you a cook, but understanding flavor profiles and ingredient combinations can make you a chef, and it's the same with AppleScript and Automator. Automator's good at getting you from points A to B but if there are any bumps in the road (e.g. the application you're using isn't scriptable) then it falls apart.
What I'm getting at is that your requirements are pretty simple to implement in AppleScript because you can get 'under the hood' and do exactly what you want, as opposed to Automator's restricted interface.
The tricky part is that if no one else can see this app it's going to be hard to tell you what to do.
I can give you the basics on reading a file and iterating through the lines of text in it, and I can show you how to 'type' text in any given application, but it may be up to you to put the pieces together.
Here's one way of reading a file and working through each line of text:
-- ask the user for a file:

Once you have a line of text (eachLine in the above example) you can 'type' that into another application via something like:

Here the AppleScript is activating the application and using System Events to emulate typing the contents of the eachLine variable into the process. Put this inside your repeat loop and you're almost there.

Outlook.mailitem - diferent replace result when not displayed

the problem:
everything works fine when the message is displayed while replacing. But when not displayed, only SOME variables
are replaced. I don't really understand why there is such difference in the result and why only SOME are
not replaced. I have tried changing the columns's names but found no connection between it and the result. when the message is displayed it takes like 10 times longer and makes the PC unusable.

Section markers and pages

Hi, I have a document which I've divided into sections (mainly for the purpose of putting different headers into each section). The problem is that whenever I add content to a page that overflows onto a new page, the section marker for the next section (the little down arrow above the page on the pages panel) doesn't move as well, forcing me to remove that section marker and make a new section marker on the next page where the beginning of that section was bumped to. Is there a way to get around this? Maybe I haven't set up my document/sections right?

Sounds like you want running heads that change according to the content on the page, instead of static section markers attached to the pages themselves. I didn't see a version number anywhere in this thread.
With ID CS3, Adobe added variables. The Running Header Variable will let you pick up the content of a paragraph or character style from text and display it in a running header. So, for instance, if you want your chapter title to display at the top of all left pages, you make a running header variable that references the chapter title paragraph style and put it on the left master page. Now at the beginning of each new chapter (or whenever you've used the chapter title paragraph style) the left running head will change.
Is that what you want?

Flash CS3: AS3 - ReferenceError #1065 Variable is not defined

I have developed several actionscript classes. Two of these
classes are associated with MovieClip objects in the library. The
MovieClips have their Linkage Base Classes set to their respective
package and class locations and when I check the Linkage settings
(using the check mark icon) Flash CS3 reports that it can find the
associated classes for both MovieClips.
When I check the syntax of my code there are no problems, and
when I test the Flash movie no Compile Errors are shown. Yet, in
the output window I get the following error:
ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable class1 is not defined.
ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable class2 is not defined.
I have placed class1 and class2 in the above error messages
to represent the classes that are associated with the MovieClip.
Am I missing an import command somewhere? I have the base
class path properly set in the preferences of Flash CS3.

It appears that this issue was due to some of my classes not
being marked as public. I had been following examples from AS2 that
had the classes marked as dynamic without a private or public
identifier. Apparently, AS3 assumes all unmarked classes are
private.

How to copy a JS variable to the clipboard

I have a script that determines the distance between two guides.
I would like that variable to be copied to the clipboard so that a user can enter it into the control panel if one wishes.
The copy() function will only copy something that is selected in the ID file itself.
Any hints on how to start?

I took up try67's suggestion because I cannot find any property that will copy to the clipboard.
The following works fine...for one number! A five digit number with a decimal (or even just two digits) overflows the text box. Text that overflows cannot be selected.
I think that the easiest solution is to make the pointSize of the text really small but for the life of me I cannot decipher how to do that.
Any suggestions on adding one or two lines to solve this? I figure the best place to put this property is in the frameProps property record.

JavaScript: Is there a way to move text from de clipboard to a js variable ?

Now I use an alternative that is (roughly):
1. Save the actual insertionPoint (where I want to put the final result)
2. Create (or use a predefined) textframe off of the page.
3. Select that textFrame and paste the clipboard contents
4. Reselect the original insertionPoint and then begin a loop for each
paragraph:
5. Apply several procces to the paragraph (this include tokenize the
input, format and replace of common errors).
6. Insert the data back to de insertionPoint with apropiate
paragraphStyles.
I did'nt place the clipboard text directly into the final textframe because there are content before and after the insertionPoint and not all of the paste text is actually used. I fill better doing the text processing in a separated place and later insert it.
This method work very well, except for the visual jump to the textFrame and back to the insertionPoint, and the change in the page view position.
I will be happy if I can place the clipboart text directly into a javascript variable and avoid the creation of an auxilizary textframe.

Yes, I can do that way (I'm considering anyway), but I have a lot of textframes linked across several pages (more than 80 pages in fact) and I have to put the inserted text in diferent places of this multipage linked textframe. And the information a have to put in the document isn't in sequent but scattered along the pages.
For me is easiest to copy from original file (spreedsheet document) a bunch of selected rows, place the insertionPoint it in the correct place in the document and run the script for generate the data. Next select another rows and repeat the process in other place.
The other way I'm thinking of is to copy all rows I need (actualy not all rows of the documnt) ignoring the order in which I want it, import into indesign and later copy and paste in correct place.
Maybe I have to rethink the whole process, but for now it works.

To keep track of our proofs, I have a text box in Illustrator with the date and time that I would like to automatically update everytime I save the file.
This is possible in InDesign by inserting a text variable. Is there a way to do this in Illustrator?

Just a little claritification, you need to add the value to the variable "[string]$ou", and also change the language in the variable "$emailbody" in the function "Get-ADUserPasswordExpirationDate".

Help: ORDER BY variable does not work in CS3

I have a variable in my recordset query for the ORDER BY
clause which is set by the URL variable, 'order'. With CS2 the
recordset worked fine with the variable. CS3 shows N/A for the
variable type in the Recordset dialog, and when I click Test to
test my recordset, it says I need to specify a variable type. So I
set it to 'Text' and suddenly the variable doesn't even work. It
just orders the records by ID. Am I going to have to use CS2 to
create recordsets with an ORDER BY variable in the future or is
there some other way around this?

click OK. If that doesn't work, the safest approach is to
select the
Recordset in the Server Behaviors panel, and click the minus
button to
remove it cleanly. Then build the recordset again: a
nuisance, I know,
but it makes your code more secure.
When using LIKE in a SQL query, you must always choose Text
as the data
type, even if you're using numbers in the variable field.
This is
because the SQL specification says that LIKE is for comparing
strings.
Dreamweaver 8.0.2 and above now follows the SQL
specification, whereas
it didn't before.

Displaying Variables in Flash [AS]2 CS3

Ok so I recently ran across an interesting problem. Not its
not in the flash and it isnt in the coding. Actually to be honest I
have no clue where the problem resides as I have never seen this
before.
Basically I have a Flash project I am working on that I
created in CS3 using ActionScript 2.0 I can see the loaded
variables on my computer. A friend across town can see the loaded
variables from the database on his computer and so on. However,
there are two people I have come across that are unable to view the
loaded variables and instead of the flash swf returning the
variables, it returns ERROR.
They both have Flash Player 9 and one computer is using
Vista, the other XP. Has anyone heard of this before? Just
curious.

Yep, as I suspected a dumb question. All I had to do was replace the xml file name with rssurl and it worked.
