JS to check last used PDF preset

hi there,
any way for script to get the last used PDF preset?  (not referring the last item in the presets)
Thanks...

Thanks Hans!
Last night I managed to do it by writing it into a preference file.
However, that is not the best option, since this info shouldnt necessarily be saved from day to day...
So the information you pointed me to was great - worked great.
Here is what I did:
As I mentioned in my first post, the script uses the openDialog function.
Seemingly, that function opens a dialog to the last PARENT folder only, but not to the inner folder which was last used.
So what was needed was, to get the last used folder name and path,
and to then use the opendlg function with that information.
I.e.
var theFile = File.openDialog()   ; // retrieves the file name chosen by the user
app.insertLabel("Open_Dlg_Dir", theFile)   ; // inserts the file info into the application label under the name "Open_Dlg_Dir"
The next time around, the script checks for that info:
theFile = app.extractLabel("Open_Dlg_Dir")   ; // retrieves the info that is stored into the app label
var theFile = File(theFile).openDlg()   ; // retrieves the file name chosen by the user
Actually, I conditioned in the beginning of the script
if theFile == null then use the openDialog function, otherwise, use the openDlg function
Thanks!

  • Printing using .pdf presets...

I've created a file in inDesign, exported it using High Quality print (PDF presets) and my Canon ImagePRESS (dropped the .pdf in Creo) is taking forever and a day to print. Should I use the Press Quality option? There are a lot of images and transparency is used a lot as well. But, its never taken this long... I'm printing a book of about 8 pages, it may take 5-7 minutes per book. Should I select another .pdf preset to print my job faster?
    Please help!
    -Justin

It may print faster if you used : "Smallest File Size" or "Standard" which are more appropriate for your type of output device.  But, diverting to "Press Quality" will not make much of a difference in speed.  Another option would require a bit more work, but will help getting it through the RIP.  That would be creating a low resolution version of the same file.  So, create a copy and downsample all of the images to low res, somewhere around 100ppi, instead of the defualt 300ppi.  If you've sized the images in InDesign, size them in PS ( Photoshop ) and "Place" them at 100% @ 100ppi.  I have a feeling the amount of time equals the amount of effort required to output the file ( memory ).  You might also simplify some of the effects applied to elements in the file.  But, listen.  5-7 minutes for an 8 page booklet is not a long time ( actually less than a minute per page ).

  • How do I use PDF Presets in IDS 3?

Can anybody please direct me on how to use/call my pdf presets in InDesign Server 3 using VBScript? I know how to use it in InDesign Desktop but not on IDS.
    In desktop, it is:
    myDoc.Export 1952403524, "filename.pdf", false, myIndesign.PDFExportPresets.Item("PDFforWEB")
What will the code be in Indesign Server 3?
    Thanks

    Hi Ritche,
You may refer to the object-model of IDS in the "ExtendScript Toolkit 2" (under Help).
I guess you can just use the VBScript syntax instead of JavaScript...
    Hope this helps.

  • InDesign CS2 PDF presets not loading

I have none of the predefined joboptions for PDF listed and cannot load them - I get an error message "Cannot import presets from this file". The joboptions are all correctly in the Library/application support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings folder. Also it will not even allow me to create a new file - it says "Cannot create the file. The folder may be write protected". I have gone through and made sure all folders are unlocked etc.
What is happening? Anybody else had this happen?

I have just discovered what was wrong. I have CS2 but also Acrobat Professional 8. I have just found a forum called InDesignSecrets.com and there I found that in CS2 the folder the joboptions are kept in is in a slightly different place - see below:
"Finally, where are PDF preset files saved? I left the technicalities of this until the end because most of you wont know or care (you dont need to know this location to use PDF presets in InDesign). However, for the techies among us, here is where PDF presets (both the default and customized settings) reside in Adobe Creative Suite 2 and Distiller 7:
Macintosh: Library > Application Support > Adobe PDF > Settings
Windows: Documents and Settings > All Users > Shared Documents > Adobe PDF > Settings
One other technical note is that this location has changed for Acrobat 8 Professional (and presumably Adobe Creative Suite 3). The file format for the .joboptions file hasnt changed, however. The default settings are stored in these locations:
Macintosh: Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe PDF > Settings
Windows: Documents and Settings > All Users > Application Data > Adobe > Adobe PDF > Settings"
Note that for CS2 the Adobe PDF is in the Application Support folder not in the Adobe folder in the Application Support folder. So I just copied the Adobe PDF folder and dropped it straight into the Application Support folder leaving the original where it was (as I need it there for Acrobat 8). I then restarted InDesign and hey presto the preset job options came in automatically - hooray!

  • Bug report?-Can't create PDF's using scanner presets

    Help!
    Acrobat 10.1.0
    Windows 7 64bit
Lexmark Prevail Pro705 using USB connection
After about an hours use today I suddenly found that couldn't create a pdf via my scanner using the PROGRAMME PRESETS (which are now greyed out). To the best of my knowledge no update or other machine activity took place before the time I lost preset use.
I can scan using the CUSTOM SCAN and then selecting WIA-Lexmark Pro700 Series from the Input Scanner dropdown box. If I click Lexmark Pro700 Series TWAIN and then try to proceed, Arcobat freezes. If I try to select    and adjust the presets I get an error message, ‘The scanner last used by Acrobat does not support preset scanning. Please select another scanner’.
I can scan a PDF via the Lexmark utility and create a PDF that way so I’m assuming that is using WIA?
I’ve down loaded Twacker 64 and opening FILE – SELECT SOURCE there is nothing listed.
Occasionally when I have just let the prog to try and scan after selecting the TWAIN setting in the  CONFIGURE PRESETS after a time,  I get an error message asking that I disconnect / reconnect the USB cable /restart the computer. I’ve tried doing this with no change. Acrobat then reports, ‘ Scanning cancelled.’
I’ve checked for Lexmark, Adobe and Windows updates – nothing.
I’ve tried ringing Adobe and after hanging on for over an hour gave up.
Any ideas what I can do to restore the preset/TWAIN feature?

    Hi Amit,
    Thank you for the input.
After spending just under 2 hours on the phone to Adobe Support yesterday I have just received a product update which I'm pleased to say has corrected what must have been a prog bug.
Hope you have a great day and thank you again for taking time to suggest a fix.

  • How to tell what version of Acrobat or Reader was last used to save a PDF

How can I tell what version of Acrobat or Reader was last used to save a PDF file? My users are using fillable forms from grants.gov. We want them to use Adobe Reader 8.1.3 to fill these forms, but some accidentally use the Pro version of Acrobat. They need this to make PDFs from Word & other apps, but Pro will corrupt the fillable forms.
When I open a saved form in Reader 8.1.3 and click File > Properties it says Acrobat 7.x even though I know it was saved with 8.1.3.
Is there a way to know which version number and type (Reader or Pro) last saved a PDF?

But it won't tell you what was used last. It just gives the original information.
It also won't differentiate between Pro and Standard and of course won't mention Reader at all.

  • Any way to export a book using a PDF preset?

Let me first explain the workflow we have right now, and that we are slowly trying to improve upon, but nonetheless...
I am designing a newspaper. We have two individuals who pagenate the pages, laying out the advertisements on them before sending me a packaged InDesign document of each page.
I, right now, am going and opening each InDesign document, then dragging it into my master document, which takes some time. I then finish laying out the newspaper with copy.
I thought recently I might instead simply open all the InDesign documents in a book and then finish laying out the newspaper from there.
My First question though is, can you actually thread text from one text box to a text box in another document within the book? If not, is there any practical solution to this?
Secondly, I tried exporting a book with one of the PDF presets we have created, but I only saw the two options, PDF print and PDF interactive. Is there no way to export a book as one of the pdf presets?
    I'm working on a mac on CS6.

First, no, you cannot thread between files, so you would need to move pages from one file into the other.
Second, you can certainly export the book to PDF. There are two "flavors" of PDF, interactive or print, but either one can be used to make a PDF from the entire Book. Choose Export Book as PDF from the Book Panel flyout menu, choose your flavor as appropriate, then choose a location and finally the options.

  • How to export book pdf using custom presets for all book files in indesign using javascript

How to export book pdf using custom presets for all book files in indesign using javascript.

    Hi jackkistens,
    Try the below js code.
Note: you can change your preset name in below (e.g, Your preset name).
    var myBook = app.activeBook;
    myBook.exportFile(ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, File (myBook.filePath+"/"+myBook.name.replace(/\.indb/g, ".pdf")), false, "Your preset name", myBook.bookContents, "Book_PDF", false);
    example:
    var myBook = app.activeBook;
    myBook.exportFile(ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, File (myBook.filePath+"/"+myBook.name.replace(/\.indb/g, ".pdf")), false, "[High Quality Print]", myBook.bookContents, "Book_PDF", false);

  • [CS5] Using PDF Export Preset from Distiller with InDesign, doesn't work the same?

    Hello,
We are in the process of reworking one of our workflows in which we would manually use Distiller to create a PDF. Now we are trying to automate this with InDesign. My first thought was that I could try using the same PDF Export Preset (.joboptions file) used in Distiller, load it into InDesign, and export my book as a PDF using this preset.
For my current testing example, there are about 115 pages in this PDF document. The PDF that Distiller created is of pretty good quality, and is about 34MB. When I used the same .joboptions file to export an InDesign book of the same original documents as a PDF, the result is equal in quality, but is about 119MB.
Does anyone know why they aren't even close in file size? Is InDesign packing more stuff (maybe related to the actual InDesign documents, or the book itself) into the final PDF? If so, is there anyway to get InDesign to give a similar PDF (in terms of both size and quality) using the .joboptions file from Distiller?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the reply!
I won't be able to use Acrobat Pro, and my hope is to continue using InDesign/InDesign Server. Since my goal is to match what Distiller produces, is there a way (with InDesign) to export PDFs but to strip out the layers/interactivity/transparency that Distiller does not support? The output PDF will be used for archive purposes only.
    Thanks again for any advice!
    -Lloyd

  • Where to check when the query was last used.

    Hi all,
Where can we check the information when a particuler query was last used. (date ). Any table.
Also how can we check the same from satistics queries.

    Hi..
run a query and you will immediately see a new record in table RSDDSTAT (SE16) with your user-ID.
Also check the Query statistics in Tcode ST03N.
    Cheers.

  • When printing PDF Adobe reader auto selects the last used printer

    Hi
I have an issue on most of my PC's that when I Print a PDF document the Windows default printer (Printer A) is selected.
If I choose to print to (Printer B) then the next time I open a PDF document (not the same document than before) it automatically selects (Printer B) even though my Windows default printer is still (Printer A)
So basically it remembers what printer was used last and automatically prints to this printer.
This is a big issue as we are printing documents to a plotter. When I then print a normal A4 page it default to the plotter as this was the last used printer. This is wasting so much paper as users just assume it always selects the default printer rather than the last used printer.
    Thanks

How about changing the printer and printing something, then close Firefox and then restart your operating system? See if that helps ....
I am curious why you need two separate versions of the same printer installed. Is one used on a USB connection and the other part of a network configuration or wireless? If both are network or wireless, are they using a different IP address on the network they are on?
The only time I have seen a similar problem with Firefox not wanting to default to the "last used" printer was with a USB inkjet and a network connected laserjet (Brother) - the laserjet would go to "sleep" (energy saving mode) and Firefox would switch to the inkjet every time the laserjet was asleep. That problem was eventually solved when the USB inkjet was replaced by a "network" connected inkjet - still can't understand why that made the difference, though.

  • Printer preset keeps reverting to last used 10.6

I want to default to a greyscale every single time I print.  Currently the greyscale preset stays as long as I do not use another preset to print with.
I can set the default temporarily by using shell commands:
    defaults write com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter._3rd_Floor_Copier com.apple.print.lastPresetPref 'Grayscale'
    defaults write com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter._3rd_Floor_Copier com.apple.print.lastPresetPrefType 3
but as soon as I use another preset to print with it overwrites the changes I made and defaults to using the last settings used.
I'm thinking I might have to edit something in com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist
    It currently looks like:
    bplist00’
      _ !com.apple.print.lastCSProfilePath_  kLocationHistoryArrayKeyTMP^DefaultPaperID_  UseLastPrinterAsCurrentPrinter_  perprinterpresetdefault_ ;/System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Generic Gray Profile.icc° “
    Any suggestions?  (OS X 10.6.4)

The preset system is designed to be fast and flexible.  For the kind of control you are looking for, you need to think outside the preset system.  Instead of building 1 printer with 2 presets, build 2 printers, each with one 1 preset.  Configure the first with grayscale or draft, then make that printer the default one in your print & fax prefs.
This will override any actions in any app that might temporarily use other settings.

  • How do I know which PDF preset to use

I've done separations in CMYK many years ago, but it has been years. I need to 1. set up my document in CMYK and 2. choose the proper PDF preset to print to a laser printer at a FedEx office. I am confused by both. I've looked through HELP and don't feel like I'm getting the answers for those to decisions. I'm remaking all my graphics in Photoshop as CMYK graphics. Is that all I need to do to set up the document in CMYK? What preset do I need to choose?
    Thanks.

FedEx Office generally prints to Canon digital presses using EFI DFEs (Digital Front Ends => RIP for digital printer) equipped with both Adobe PostScript 3 and the Adobe PDF Print Engine.
Our advice from Adobe is to use the PDF/X-4 .joboptions as-is for printing at FedEx Office.
Note that there is absolutely no need whatsoever to convert anything to CMYK in modern workflows. PDF/X-4 provides for ICC profile tagged RGB content as well as CMYK content with any ICC color managed content properly converted at print time. No need for you to convert anything!

  • PDF presets not showing up in indesign CC

    Hi,
We have about 28 CC users on mac (mavericks), and we've just started using Indesign CC within the last month or so.
My problem is that we are 'deploying' via remote desktop, a standard set of PDF presets so everyone have the same settings. This works fine on cs3-cs6. But for some reason it does not work with indesign CC. CC wil only show the presets that are in the users/xxx/Application support/Adobe PDF/Settings folder and not the ones from the default folder /Library/Application support/adobe/adobe PDF/settings .
I can add them by either loading the presets in indesign one by one, on every single mac, or manually  also on every single mac, put the presets in the users folder, but both options really suck. Mind you we change presets very often, so this is really not ideal for me.
Hope someone can help direct me to the master PDF preset folder for CC - The one folder who rules them all !!!

http://forums.adobe.com/community/indesign may be a better place to ask
This forum is actually about the Cloud as delivery, not about using individual programs
If you start at the Forums Index http://forums.adobe.com/index.jspa
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use
Click the "down arrow" symbol on the right (where it says ALL FORUMS) to open the drop down list and scroll
