Printer preset keeps reverting to last used 10.6

I want to default to a greyscale every single time I print.  Currently the greyscale preset stays as long as I do not use another preset to print with.
I can set the default temporarily by using shell commands:
defaults write com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter._3rd_Floor_Copier com.apple.print.lastPresetPref 'Grayscale'
defaults write com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter._3rd_Floor_Copier com.apple.print.lastPresetPrefType 3
but as soon as I use another preset to print with it overwrites the changes I made and defaults to using the last settings used.
I'm thinking I might have to edit something in com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist
It currently looks like:
bplist00’
  _ !com.apple.print.lastCSProfilePath_  kLocationHistoryArrayKeyTMP^DefaultPaperID_  UseLastPrinterAsCurrentPrinter_  perprinterpresetdefault_ ;/System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Generic Gray Profile.icc° “
Any suggestions?  (OS X 10.6.4)

The preset system is designed to be fast and flexible.  For the kind of control you are looking for, you need to think outside the preset system.  Instead of building 1 printer with 2 presets, build 2 printers, each with one 1 preset.  Configure the first with grayscale or draft, then make that printer the default one in your print & fax prefs.
This will override any actions in any app that might temporarily use other settings.

  • Default print tray keeps reverting to Tray 1, asking for glossy paper on HP P3015

We have a new HP P3015 at work, and a few days ago it started defaulting to Tray 1, and asking for Glossy paper.  I have followed all onscreen instructions for changing print tray multiple times, and tried hard booting the printer a couple of times.  There is no paper in Tray 1, and it is shut.  For each print job, I must walk over to the printer and press OK to change print trays, and OK again to print.  How can I clear these settings so that the printer will revert to printing from Trays 2 and 3 without having to walk over and change it for every job?
It also started printing much more slowly that when we first set it up a couple of months ago.

switch off the printer, take the paper out of the tray, reassemble the paper properly, then put the paper back and switch on the printer, it should work
or just change the paper specificationo in A4 legal paper it should work then

  • My internet connection keeps reverting back to using a manual proxy server configuration pointing at 127.0.0.1 Port 55414. I've tried the help regarding the user.js and prefs.js files but still it continues to revert to the manual proxy configuration!

I know how to change my network settings to fix my internet connection, I just select "Auto-detect network settings for this network" under Tools, Options, Network, Settings. However every time I close down Firefox it reverts to the manual proxy configuration pointing to 127.0.0.1 Port 55414.
I've tried all the suggestions under saving your preferences but this hasn't worked so I'm at a loss as to what to do next. If I can't sort this I'll have to revert back to Internet Explorer as this doesn't have this problem!

  • Installed New Printheads Now Printer Just Keeps Automatically Aligning printheads & using ink

After installing new cyan print cartridge, printer automatically required printhead alignment, cleaning, etc. It then said that the Cyan/Magenta Printhead would need replacement soon. Print quality page said everything else was good, but when I went to print document, everything was BAD.
I replaced the cyan/magenta printhead w/brand new HP. Automatically it attempted to align printhead. It has been automatically aligning printheads constantly for 2 weeks now, it has sucked down TWO cyan ink cartridges, one yellow and one magenta, yet I have printed NOTHING but alignment pages, which I cannot get the printer to stop doing.
I NEED MY PRINTER. PLEASE HELP!!!!! Cannot afford another, cannot afford to go out of house to print, and already (with mutliple ink cartridges) have hundreds of dollars into this mailing that was supposed to go out three weeks ago.

    Hello there @skirdie ,
I read your posts about the printhead issue you have been having. I just wanted to reach out and let you know what my suggestion is and what I think is happening.
I believe the printheads are failing or at least on their way. My best suggestion to you, is to follow the steps in the guide below. I have looked through the steps and I would personally recommend them. If anything is going to cure the printheads from consistently running an alignment or perhaps seeing the  "checking printer" message, it would be those steps. Clean the contacts very well and power reset the printer and give the printer a direct connection to the wall, avoiding power bars and surge protectors.
'The Following Printhead Appears to be Missing or Damaged' or 'The Following Printhead has a Problem...
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. They may have a trade in offer available.

Perhaps you could post something describing what you are trying to do. (Sounds like you want to keep track of last-used-time on a bunch of data elements?)

I am running CS3 Premium under Win XPro. I have just received my upgrade to CS4. Do I need to do anything special to save my print presets in InDesign CS3 for use with CS4 before I install?

    Homeboy,
You specifically asked if you needed anything special to do this. (I read do but my mind processed if you needed anything) I informed you first that you did not. Next, I described the process with the tools you already had. (InDesign)

  • Need script for batch Open/Flatten/Outline/Print Preset/Close/Repeat

I have an Action created that I use in batch mode on deadline day to flatten my artwork, convert text to outlines, print to our press' desired settings (output to postscript file then distilled from there), then close without saving.
The problem is even tho tho the Action has a step for the desired print preset, I still have to use the dropbox and select it, then click Print to get the action going again- if I take out the icon where it stops the script to wait for my input, then I get a "Can't print the illustration.  The Color Mangement settings are inconsistent"  error.    So I use the dialog icon to use the drop down to select my desired printer.
From there the action has a 'Close' step where I get a question asking me to Yes or No to save the file.   I want to always answer No to the question as I want to preserve the file from being flattened and outlined- I just want the copy to be.    The action will not save the No answer to that question.
This forces me be at the computer and select the printer, click the print button, then answer 'No' for ever file in the batch.   I have to do this for a few hundred files-  its a process that takes over an hour.
I think I need a script or some help with the Action so I can get up from the chair and walk away while it does it for me.  I've posted here before years ago but got no response.  I've been dealing with what I have.
    PC, Latest version of IllustratorCC2014
I'm willing to pay for someone to write a script.

I'll PM you to try to help you.   Sorry you had to wait so long for a reply.

  • CS6 - my print booklet presets keep disappearing

I just recently installed CS6 on my computer. I had to set up all of my print booklet presets again (I use them frequently to print booklets on our printer). I saved them, just as I had previously with CS5.
And for awhile, all was right with the world. Then today, I tried to print a booklet and all of my presets have disappeared.
On top of all that, I have noticed that some of the dialogs that I turned off (you know, the check mark that says "Don't ask me this again") have been reappearing as well, on occasion. I can't help but think these two are connected.
Any ideas? I also can't seem to find where these presets would be saved in the program folders so I could reload them in the Print Presets dialog box.

I didn't reset my preferences, I know that for a fact. And even if I did, I would've had to do it about half a dozen times since that's how often my dialog boxes keep being reset (not even talking about the print presets). I think my prefernces file keeps getting corrupted for some reason. I don't print booklets on a daily basis, maybe monthly, so this has probably happened at least 3 times since the beginning of this month, again just judging by the amount of times my dialogs reset.
And believe me, to reset my preferences without knowing it would be a feat indeed. It's hard enough for me to get my fingers on those buttons fast enough when I mean to reset preferences, I can't imagine doing it accidentally.
I've been reading some other posts on similar issues, I guess my best bet is to reset my print presets AGAIN and figure out how to save them as a copy somewhere safe that isn't in the InDesign folder.

  • When printer was last used?

    Hello all,
I am trying to determine how to find out when a printer was last used. The reason is that the last 6 years we are running SAP, we have had around 1500 printers configured, but I am certain that the vast majority of these are not used any more and therefore can be deleted from SPAD
Is there a way to find out which printers haven't been used from SAP in the last year, for example? We only keep spool requests for 1 month
    Many thanks
    Andreas

    Hi,
If you keep spool requests for only a month, I don't believe that you have other options then custom development (if you want to get printer usage stats for the whole year). By custom development I mean to write simple abap program that will look into spools and update some Z table with printers data you need.
    Regards,
    Mike

  • Mandatory profile: default printer always reverts to last installed printer

The only constant is: the last installed printer stays as the default printer (user can install it). How is that tracked by the system? I cannot find it anywhere.
example printer A, then B is installed. Printer B always reverts to being the default on reboot.
    a. not using gpp/gpo to set printers (several thousand pcs, about 800 printers, difference preferences in each department etc)
    b. from what I have read, it is normal for the mandatory profile to revert back on reboot/logoff any changes to the default printer made by the user.
    c. I have tried changing registry keys for .default, the current user, which the current user (mandatory profile autologin) does not pull from .default or anywhere else I can seed.
    d. the mandatory profile itself is clean the common registry keys are empty (changing these keys to your desired printer does not resolve the issue, they revert on reboot to last installed printer)

    Hi,
Please allow me to clear the current situation:
    1. We are using mandatory profile, and the default printer is not configured into the profile settings;
    2. Every time when installing a new printer, it will change to the default one;
    3. Using command line to set the default printer won't work here;
If anything misunderstood, please feel free to let me know.
So how do we install the new printer here? Any settings that we may choose to set the newly installed as the default?
Might we consider to let the user choose which printer to be set as default using scripts? See if this blog could help:
How Can I Let Users Choose a Default Printer From a List of Printers?
If the default printer is not configured into the profile settings, and no GPP configured here, how was the default printer installed?

Acrobat on OSX does not use printer preset. Every single time I have to print I have to click printer and then print to load the preset and then click print again from the main dialog. I am printing to a Xerox that has the copier code in the preset so if I don't do this it will not print. This has been broken for in every version I have tried. What operating system are you running? I assume they had you install the latest BIOS. True? If it were mine, I would suggest forcing it to use integrated graphics (in the BIOS) to rule out a problem with the NVidia driver.

  • When printing PDF Adobe reader auto selects the last used printer

    Hi
I have an issue on most of my PC's that when I Print a PDF document the Windows default printer (Printer A) is selected.
If I choose to print to (Printer B) then the next time I open a PDF document (not the same document than before) it automatically selects (Printer B) even though my Windows default printer is still (Printer A)
So basically it remembers what printer was used last and automatically prints to this printer.
This is a big issue as we are printing documents to a plotter. When I then print a normal A4 page it default to the plotter as this was the last used printer. This is wasting so much paper as users just assume it always selects the default printer rather than the last used printer.
    Thanks

How about changing the printer and printing something, then close Firefox and then restart your operating system? See if that helps ....
I am curious why you need two separate versions of the same printer installed. Is one used on a USB connection and the other part of a network configuration or wireless? If both are network or wireless, are they using a different IP address on the network they are on?
The only time I have seen a similar problem with Firefox not wanting to default to the "last used" printer was with a USB inkjet and a network connected laserjet (Brother) - the laserjet would go to "sleep" (energy saving mode) and Firefox would switch to the inkjet every time the laserjet was asleep. That problem was eventually solved when the USB inkjet was replaced by a "network" connected inkjet - still can't understand why that made the difference, though.
