JScrollpane with custom panel where part of it shouldn't scroll

Hi!
I'm building an application where in one of my views I have a sequence diagram where communication is shown graphically. Right now I have a custom panel for this inside a JScrollPane. One detail that I'm thinking about changing is that the "actors" in the top should always be visible, even when scrolling down. This because it will be easier to see who has sent which message if these information is always visible on top. I know I could add a new panel on top, but I don't want a border in between, I want it seamless. One other solution I've thought about is to always repaint the top as I want it, but I don't want to do any unnecessary repainting if not needed. I mean, the top part only needs to be repainted when scrolling horizontally and the other part (showing the messages between the actors) need to be repainted when scrolling in any direction. Could I somehow have to sub-panels inside the JScrollPane and control them differently when scrolling? Anyone got a smart solution for this?

Why don't you just set the borders of the JScrollPane and top JPanel so that they appear "seamless"? Then put them both in an "outside" JPanel with a border that makes it obvious that they are related?
Something like this:
JPanel outsidePanel = new JPanel();
outsidePanel.setBorder(scrollPane.getBorder);
scrollPane.setBorder(new EmptyBorder());
outsidePanel.add(topPanel, BorderLayout.NORTH);
outsidePanel.add(scrollPane, BorderLayout.CENTER);

Photoshop CC Custom Panels

I have a few action sets from CS6 that came with custom panels that were installed after the actions were loaded using the Adobe Extension Manager for CS6. Can these panels be installed for CC? Is there an extension manager that will do the install, and if so how does one access it?

Thansk very much everyone. What I stupidly hadn't realized is that with CC the Extension Manager was a separate download. Shoulda' thought of that since I also hadn't realized that Beidge CC was separate. Anyway, now that I download EM CC all I needed to do was to right click the custom panel file and say open with Extension Manager CC and all installed properly.

Mousewheel not working when over contents of custom panel.

So I have a custom collapisble panel, that when the user mousewheel's while over the header or footer of the panel it the entire page will scroll appropriately, but when the mouse is over the content inside the panel, the entire page won't scroll. I thought it might be the s:Scroller, but taking it out doesn't help. Anyone have the same issue?
Here is the contents of my custom panel.

So the issue is setting MouseChildren = true on my custom Panel, by setting this the children are catching the mouseWheel event, I guess. If I set mouseChildren=false then the mouseWheel works correctly, but then the buttons and scroller within my custom Panel don't work, of course. Anyone have any work arounds?

Creating custom UI panels : where to start ?

i've had a hard time searching for clear information on how to create custom panels in InDesign.
Maybe the wrong keywords, i dont know, but here i am
I would like to create a panel displaying all the "text variables" and their actual values and be able to edit them right there.
I have no idea where to start, any primers ? Cues ? Ressources ?

Well i was actually asking myself the very question : do i really need a panel ?
So far i found a script thhat pretty much does what i need :
run the script opens a window
When all the fields are populated, hit continue and the custom text variables are updated with the freshly entered information
Now i need to tweak this code to suit my variables and find a way to "get" the current values instead of the defaults ones populating the form.
So i guess i can always execute the script to update, correct and update the variable and anytime, saving me the trouble of going about creating a plugin (this scared me more that anything )
I'll make sure it runs and see whats up. Any chance i can ask you later for support if i hit a rock?

How Can I Create a Custom Panel With the InDesign ToolBar's Look and Feel

I am trying to create a custom panel that looks as close as possible to InDesign's native floating menu bar (with the Frame, Text, etc, icons on it). ToggleBarButtons doesn't look like, although it does contain the functinoality of the button which is pressed stayting pressed.
Any ideas?

Problems with Custom File Info Panel and Dublin Core

I'm creating a custom file info panel that uses the values of the dublin core description and keywords (subject) for two of it's own fields. I'm having problems with the panel saving if they enter the description on the custom panel first, and with the keywords not echoing each other, or reappearing after a save. To answer my own question:
The documentation really sucks.
I found this reply from Adobe <http://forums.adobe.com/message/2540890#2540890>
usually we recommend to install custom panels into the "user" location at:
WINDOWS XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\2.0\panels\
WINDOWS VISTA: C\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels\2.0\panels\
MAC OS: /user/username/Application Data/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/2.0/panels/
The reason why your panels did not work properly was a missing Flash trust file for that user location. Without such a trust file the embedded flash player refuses to "play" your custom panel.
Please see section "Trust files for custom panels" in the XMPFileInfo SDK Programmer's Guide on page 50 for all details on how to create such trust files.
After many wasted hours I have now the simple panels running.

Custom SharePoint Master Page with Content Editor Web Part.

Hi All,
I have created a custom SharePoint Master Page to apply within my SharePoint Site and it was a success.
When I want to add the content I have to use the script editor web part and add HTML snippets. Then the styles will reflect correctly. But when I use content editor web part some of the styles do not reflect. Lets assume that if I want to add a H2 with the
custom color, the color do not show in the ribbon. And how SharePoint know that this is an <h2> and reflect the other styles like padding, margin and so on.
Please can someone help me to solve this.

From your description, my understanding is that you want to add CSS code in your customized Master Page with content editor web part.
I tested your issue in SharePoint Designer, and I added CSS code successfully.
I accomplish your requirement with steps below:
Add a content editor web part in a list and add some CSS code in the web part.
Open SharePoint Designer, enter the master page.
Insert a content editor web part under INSERT tab in the Ribbon.
Open the list that have edited in step1 in the SharePoint Designer.
Copy code from the list to the Master Page as the screenshot below.
The screenshot below is my result:
In addition, why do not you add CSS code just with <style> tag in your page? Just add CSS code as below(in this method, you do not need any web part.):

Can i order a Mac with custom parts.

Hello guys, i am so new to Mac, so, here is my question.
If i would like to buy a Mac with custom parts like...
i want an iMac 27" with 5k display and my custom parts will be:
CPU: 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2GB GDDR5
the rest will be still the same.
PS: Coz i really like the i7 CPU but can't effort for 4GHz and i am a nVidia fan.

XML Custom Panels: Samples With Doc are Not Well Formed XML

The custom panel samples in the XMP Custom Panels document (and the accompanying sample file) is not well formed XML (which means that CS3 can't be parsing the file as XML, which would explain how this error made it publication). In particular, the XML declaration is missing the closing "?".
 
 As published it is:

 It should be:
 
 <?xml version="1.0"?>
 
 Note the "?>" rather than ">".
 
 This is in addition to the DOCTYPE SYSTEM URL not resolving to an actual DTD declaration set (which would be:

You'll have to do something to prevent your logger from appending to old logs that have been closed. Sorry if that is not very helpful, but I'm not familiar with the logging features in SDK 1.4. For your interest, though, Log4J (which you can get from Apache) also features XML logging, and it solved that rather obvious problem thus:
"The output of the XMLLayout consists of a series of log4j:event elements as defined in the log4j.dtd. It does not output a complete well-formed XML file. The output is designed to be included as an external entity in a separate file to form a correct XML file."
In other words, you would have to wrap the output in an XML header and a root node to be able to use it, which is not difficult to do.

How to create a custom panel in the right way (without having an empty panel in the file info) ?

My name is Daté.
I'm working in the fashion industry as a designer and Design consultant to help fashion brands improving the design workflow by using Adobe softwares and especially Illustrator.
I'm not a developper, but i'm very interested about the possibility to introduce xmp technology to provide more DAM workflows in the fashion industry.
Fashion designers produce a lot of graphical objects in illustrator or Photoshop. Unfortunately they are faced to a big challenge which is about how to manage, search, classify and get this files faster. Of course PDM system or PLM system are used in the Fashion industry to manage data, but for many companies, implemanting this kind of database is very complex.
When i look at what you can do with xmp, it seems to be an interesting way of managing design files, then i started to follow Adobe instruction to try to build a custom panel.
The main idea is to (Theory) :
create custom panels used by fashion designers to classify their design files.
Use Adobe Bridge to search files, create smart collection to make basic reports in pdf and slideshows
Find someone to make a script able to export metadata in xml files
Use indesign and the xml file to generate automatically catalogues or technical sheets based on xmp values
I have created a custom panel by using the generic panel provided by Adobe and i have modified the fields to feet with the terms used in the fashion industry and it works well.
But unfortunately, when i try to create my own custom panel from scratch with Flashbuilder (4.6) and the Adobe CSExtensionBuilder_2 (Trial version), it doesn't work!
Here is the process :
I have installed flashbuilder 4.6
I have download the XMP Fileinfo SDK 5.1 and placed the com.adobe.xmp.sdk.fileinfo_fb4_1.1.0.jar in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\eclipse\plugins
In Flashbuilder, i have created a new project and select xmp Custom panel
The new project is created in flashbuilder with a field with A BASIC Description Field
To generate the panel, right click the project folder and select xmp / Publish Custom Panel
The panel is automatically generated in the following folder : C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\custom file info panels\3.0\panels
Go to illustrator, Open the file Info
The panel appears empty
The others panel are also empty
The panel is created and automatically placed in the right folder, but when you open it in Illustrator by selecting the File Info option in the File Menu, this custom panel appears empty!!! (only the title of the tab is displayed). This panel also prevent the other panels to be displayed.
When you delete this custom panels from the folder C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\XMP\custom file info panels\3.0\panels and go back to the File Info, the other panels display their content properly.
I also try to use the plugin XMP Namespace designer to create my own namespace. this plugin is also able to generate a custom panel, but this one also appears empty in AI or Photoshop.
I try to follow the process described in Adobe xmp documentation many times, but it didn't works.
It seems that many peaople have this issue, but i dodn't find a solution in the forum.
I try to create a trust file (cfg), but it didn't work.
It would be so kind if you can help me to understand why i can't create a custom panel normally and how to do it in the right way.

After many trial, i realize the problem was not coming from the trust file, but from the way i have created the custom panel.
There is 2 different ways, the first described below is not working whereas the second is fine :
METHOD 1 :
I have downloaded the XMP-Fileinfo-SDK-CS6
In the XMP-Fileinfo-SDK-CS6 folder, i copied the com.adobe.xmp.sdk.fileinfo_fb4x_1.2.0.jar plugin from the Tools folder and i pasted it in the plugind folder of Flashbuilder 4.6
The plugin install an XMP project
In Flashbuilder 4.6 i have created a new project (File / New /Project /XMP/XMP Custom Panel)
A new xmp project is created in flashbuilder.
You can publish this project by right clicking the root folder and selecting XMP / Publish Custom Panel
The custom file info panel is automatically published in the right location which is on Mac : /Users/UserName/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/3.0 or /Users/UserName/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/4.0
Despite the publication of the custom file info panel and the creation of a trust file in the following location : "/Library/Application Support/Macromedia/FlashPlayerTrust", the panel is blank in Illustrator.
I try this way several times, with no good results.
METHOD 2 :
I have installed Adobe CSExtensionBuilder 2.1 in Flash Builder
In FlashBuilder i have created a new project (File / New /Project /Adobe Creative Suite Extension Builder/XMP Fileinfo Panel Project)
As the system display a warning about the version of the sdk to use to create correctly a custom file info, I changed the sdk to sdk3.5A
The warning message is : "XMP FileInfo Panel Projects must be built with Flex 3.3, 3.4 or 3.5 SDK. Building with Flex 4.6.0 SDK may result in runtime errors"
When i publish this File info panel project (right click the root folder and select Run as / Adobe illustrator), the panel is published correctly.
The last step is to create the trust file to display the fields in the panel and everything is working fine in Illustrator.
The second method seems to be the right way.
For sure something is missing in the first method, and i don't understand the difference between the XMP Custom Panel Project and the XMP Fileinfo Panel Project. Maybe you can explain it to me.
So what is the best solution ? the right sdk to use acording to the creative suite (the system asks to use 3.3 or 3.5 sdk for custom panels, so why ?)
I'm agree with Pedro, a step by step tutorial about this will help a lot of peaople, because it's not so easy to understand!!!

A plugin or a software capable to extract the XMP from llustrator files to generate XML workflows in Indesign to create catalogues
A plugin to allow indesign to get custom XMP in live caption
A plugin to allow Bridge to get custom XMP in the Outputmode to make pdf or web galeries from a smart collection
How can you print the XMP data with the thumbnail of the file ?

Based on the error trace
Caused By: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-12899: value too large for column "DEV_OIM"."REQUEST_APPROVALS"."APPROVAL_STATUS" (actual: 442, maximum: 32)
you are inserting a value too large for REQUEST_APPROVALS.APPROVAL_STATUS column. It should contain values like COMPLETED, approved, rejected etc... Check your custom approval process again.

Some comments on Adobe 'Custom Panels for XMP File Info' document

In developing a couple of Photoshop/Bridge custom metadata panels for cataloguing my photo collection, I noticed one or two things that look like possible errors in the above document. These comments relate to the version of the document dated April 2005.
P10, description of 'cat_container_edit_text' widget type: surely this should also list custom variable 'container_type', which is needed to specify whether the metadata array is a bag, seq or whatever.
P25, details of 'cat_container_edit_text': same comment applies.
P8 et seq: the requirements for use of the 'name' variable appear contradictory. The summary descriptions of various widgets such as 'edit_text' contain the statement that 'You must provide name, xmp_namespace and xmp_path values for this widget to supply a dynamic
value', but the description of 'name' on P16 says that it 'Applies only to fixed-text widgets. Do not use this variable to change the value or text of the widget at run time.'

I have not looked into these panels for years and I am not sure what has changed in CS4.
Yes, the free software mentioned previously was limited in the amount of fields, however correct me if I am wrong - the output was just XMP text data and one could simply open it in a text editor and copy/paste/edit extra fields and resave, as the limitation was with the GUI frontend and not with XMP.
Obviously the computer reading the file needs the custom info panel installed to see the panel in it's full glory, otherwise the metadata is "hidden" away in one of the other metadata listings (I can't remember where). I also had problems picking up the custom metadata when searching via catalogue applications that could read other common metadata such as IPTC.
It was a bit of a mixed bag if I recall, showing promise however it was not really ready for the average user to use.
Anyway, it sounds as if my very limited knowlege on this area is being exhausted...

Drag-n-Drop problem in DataGrid with custom ItemRenderer

Hi,
I am trying to use a DataGrid to set the ordering of a group
of images.
I want to do this with a DataGrid which will show me some
properties of
the images in different columns including a thumbnail of the
image. The
problem is when I use any custom renderer for any column, the
draging is
not working. It works fine when I don't use any ItemRenderer.
My code looks something like this:

I thought we need to apply Drag n drop API for this case.
Without wasting too much time,
I tried out as your source code from the previous reply,,,
Instead of getting it clearly, I got another Confusion... (pardon me)
Let me clarify this with the examples given,
I try to adopt previous source code
and it was this detail;
1) Taking the X and Y coordinate (from the mouseEvent) Plus jLabel1 coordinate (both X and Y).
2) Positioning a Coordinate taken to JLabel1
3) Passing the Coordinate taken to jLabelX, and jLabelY.
The problem found was;
if we make 3rd become comments, now the jLabel1
could works!
I mean, jLabel1 could be dragged to another Coordinate (by dragging it to another location)
But,
if we un-comments the 3rd source code,
The effect would be no movement of the jLabel1.
BinaryDigit, is this related to the layout you mentioned before?

I thought also the same thing,
but setLocation() give me another Confusion....
the coordinate seems taking its basement as a reference.
I mean, the jLabel Coordinate's is referenced
from the panel where the jLabel is attached to,
rather than the Coordinate's of the base jFrame (main base -what should I call this?)
Sorry, the Details number three (3) is my preference, Since I wanted to see the X, Y movements also.
