JSF and actions

hello, i have one question:
i have a site with 2 links (link A and link B).
if i load my site (content of link A) i use method linkABean.getData()
Now i would like make following:
if i'm on link B and go to link A then i don't want to use method linkABean.getData(), because i have used it before.
Is there any possibility to get to know from which context the linkA is called (whether its initial value->then i use my method or coming from other link,e.g. link B->then i don't use the method)

use parameter ???
like : linkA</>
when you first load your site ,judge whether parameter from is null.

Regarding JSF Default action problem in IE

Hi,
I am using Jsf:Default action inside my submit button.In my form I have row of two buttons submit and reset.When I use my tab focus on reset button and when I am clicking enter submit default action is getting fired rather reset action.More over if I am using spacebar after tab focus reset button is called as expected.The problem identified is only with IE browsers
In case of Mozilla,default action is overridden by tab focus action and working properly.
Please advise me how to solve this issue in IE
Note:The j4j:defaultAction custom component included in the j4j tag libraries allows you to define the default action for a form by adding <j4j:defaultAction /> as a child tag to the commandButton tag.

Thanks for your answer. I fixed it using javascript .First I got all the buttons in the DOM and did a check to find if there is any current focus using document.activeElement.type="button" else to go with default submit action.

Working with Non JSF and JSF Pages

Hi ALL,
I wanted to know wheter it is possible or not

I have 2 pages. First one is JSF Page and second one is JSP Page
I wanted to submit the JSF Page contents to JSP Page. Is it possible??

A couple things here:
What kinds of services do these protected methods
provide. Are you sure that this is the only way to
structure this?
The kind of services the base class provides are very critical which the child classes can't do and shouldn't care. For eg: the base class waits on a lock object for some action to be done by some other module in the code.
I have tried to restructure it a bit, there are other child classes for this base class on which I dont have the direct control. The only reason why I am a state pattern here is to avoid a big switch case or if else statements.
There are two ways to restrict access to something in
Java: 1. make that something protect,
package-protected, or private or 2. Restrict access
to the Object itself. What I mean is that you can
make a method public but only those classes that can
get access to the Object reference can call it. Yes,
everyone can see that the method exists but that's
rarely, if ever, going to matter.
And I can't make the methods public because they are all as I said critical functions which only the child is allowed to do and that too only through inheritence. It is making perfect sense for the base class to keeping them protected.
It seems like there is no other way but to redeclare them and delegate the call to super.

JSF and Database Validation

I would like to perform validation that seems to be a little involved with JSF and I was curious as to the best practice. I need to perform validation on a summary screen where the user can highlight a row and click an Edit button that takes them to another screen. However, I need to query the database when they click edit to check to see if the item they selected is able to be edited (these rules are part of our business logic). What is the best way to perform database-side validation using JSF? If I query the DB in the action event of the command button, how can I then inform the JSP if the item fails validation and then display a message from messages. properties? Keep in mind that an item can fail validation for a number of reasons, so the message could be different each time the validation is performed.

You have two choices:
a) Don't let the user edit the line, by don't allowing the he to have an action on that row.
b) If you have a global command, then perform the validation on the action method.
In the a) case, you only have to put some flags to tell the page to not put the command on the row. This flags came with the query or whatsoever that you like more.
In the b) case you can perform the validation by calling the business logic, and in case of failiure, you can add a message to the FacesMessage tellong the user the reason of not allowing he to edit.
Example (on the bean):

new FacesMessage(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR,
errorMessage,
errorMessage));
The componentId can be null or of not, the id of a component on the page.

Problems with JSF and included subviews

Hi everybody,
I' ve got a problem with JSF and included subviews which makes me going
crazy. I've got no clue why my web-pages are represent wrongly. The only
tip I've got is that it must be connected with the kind I do include my JSF-pages.
When I use <%@file="sub.jsp"%> my pages are are represent right. When I use <jsp:include page="Sub.jsp" /> or <c:import url="Sub.jsp" /> ( mark: the usage of flush="true" or flush="false" doesn't matter )
my pages are represent wrongly.
The usage of tags like f:facet or f:verbatim were also included but didn't point to an solution.
I searched the whole Sun Developer Forum and some other web-sites for any solution for my problem but the given hints and clues didn't help. Now I'm trying to post my problem directly in Sun's Forum in hope to get help.
My environment is the following:
JAVA JDK 1.5 Update 4
Tomcat 5.5.9
JSLT 1.1
Sun JSF 1.1
Win 2K

many thanks for your post, but it didn't work.
My problem is that the JSF-Components im my included or imported
JSP-Pages does not accept any kind of style or styleClass for
designing. The components take over the informations for colors
but not for alignment.
When I take a look at the generated JAVA-Source in $TOMCAT/WORK/WEBAPP for my sub.jsp ( sub.java )
it seems that the resulting HTML-page would be presented correctly.
But later when I start the application via Firefox or Mozilla the html-sourcecode is totally wrong.
In my example I create a simple grid with 2 rows and 2 columns.
Both columns contains JSF-Outtext-Components and are included with div-tags.
The generated Sub.java shows that the text would be setted in the div-tags. Unfortunately the html-sourcecode represented by my browser shows that jsf-text is not setted in the tags but in the <h:form> tags. The div-tags are neither rounded by <h:form> nor containing the JSF-OutText-Components.
Any clue?

Possible to aggregate multiple JSF custom actions into a single action?

I'm wondering if it's possible to aggregate multiple JSF custom actions into a single action? For example, I have a JSF custom tag/renderer named selectOneMenuStateAbbreviation that displays a drop down list of state abbreviations. This tag allows a user to select a state abbrevation from the list.
What I want to do is create another custom tag/renderer and call it inputAddress. The inputAddress tag, will consist of text boxes for street address, city, and zip code. I want to make it so that the state abbreviation custom tag that I already wrote is imbedded in this tag/renderer as well.
Does anyone know if this is possible? Or, would I have to just duplicate the code that I already have in my other custom action?

I would assume so, but, I don't know how. Can I do it using just tags and renderers, or, would I need to create a custom UI component as well? One tag would have to be a child of the other correct? I don't know how to do this in Java code. Does anyone know of example code that shows how to do this?

Error message "Firefox is already running but is not responding" - I have read and action the KB - no fix

So before we start - I have read the KB (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-already-running-not-responding) and actioned the advice on how end the processes, delete the parental lock, etc. This gives a temporary but one time only fix and does not resolve the overall issue.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the application.
So why do I get the Error message "Firefox is already running but is not responding"?

Note that in Firefox 13+ (expected to be released June 5) the parent.lock file is no longer deleted after closing Firefox to make it possible to check for startup crashes, so the presence of that file will in the future no longer indicate a problem.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

Import of XML file failed in portal using XML Content and Action

I am trying to import the simple XML file which is just creating the folder in the PORTAL_CONTENT using XML CONTENT AND ACTIONS which is one way of creating the portal content. GO TO SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION > TRANSPORT > XML CONTENT AND ACTIONS > IMPORT.
The reason for using this import tool is to upload the backend Business roles, which is not not working on our corporate portal. To test the import functionality I used the following xml file (I got this XML file by exporting the test folder in the portal using the same tool)

Pass parameter through standard page "import xml content and actions"

Dear Portal experts,
As you know, a standard portal page is configured to allow the import of XML file. It is located in the portal in the path system admin -> transport -> xml content and actions -> import
I configured a quick link u201Cimportu201D to the page so now the link http://myserver:port/irj/portal/import allows me to access directly to this screen.
What I would like to do now is to pass the parameter related to u201Cfile nameu201D through this screen meaning that I would like that http://myserver:port/irj/portal/ import/filename=C:\test.xml fills automatically the fields u201CXML fileu201D with C:\test.xml
Please do you know how to achieve this ?

When user launch an URL like http://myserver:port/irj/portal/ import/*filename=C:\test.xml, he is requested to provide username and password; as this link is a shortcut for the upload xml page, there is a check of authorization and only portal admin that have authorization and permission on this page/iview will be able to upload xml file through the URL. Hope this clarify.

What a pity to not be able to pass parameter through standard portal page/iview particularly knowing that we can pass paramater through many kinds of iviews (transactional iview, url iview, VC iview...). I explored some option on file com.sap.portal.ivs.init.par but this was unsuccessful. However, thanks to this [link bellow|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Snippets/ComponenttouploadXMLfilewithPCD+objects], I was able to upload through URL the XML file.
The problem is that I can upload only XML file that are stored in the server not in the local user computer. My requirement is to be able to upload local XML file stored on user's computer.
If someone could provide and idea/solution, I would be very grateful.

Variables and Actions in Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro

Hello Gurus,
I have been searching different forums around the net for three days, so I am really frustrated since I cant find anything related to this, and I am even thinking if this is really possible.
I'll try to explain what I wanted to make. I am using Captivate 4 and publishing my content through Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro server. I want to use this "Variables and Actions" Feature of my current version of Captivate. Now, I want that when my user open a training which she is enrolled with, I want her name to appear on the content, like "Hello Irish" something like that, without requiring her to log on her name. How could I make use this variables and actions in captivate 4 to get automatically the "first-name" variable of my user in Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro of my user?
Is this possible guys?

I am looking at Connect Pro right now, and as I can see it on its default page it displays the name and lastname of the logged user, moreover, there is a part where you could either invite existing user, or create existing user, as mentioned in this link: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AcrobatConnectPro/7.5/Using/WS5C856274-D671-4665-9CD0-29868C89 60F2.html so I am thinking If maybe there could be a way where I can retrieve the "first-name"of the user through Variables and Actions of Captivate. Since I am trying to avoid prompting the user to type in their first names, I wish to do automatically, that is if it possible.

Does anyone know of a Javascript method for retrieving the list of Action Group names and Action names as an array? I'm trying to do a check that the requested Action Group and Action is available before starting a script.

Jsf and tiles

hi all.
i'm developing an application using jsf and tiles.
i've some problem in the general layout page.
how can I refer to images and files,if I don't know where the page will be used?
with struts i've used <html:rewrite page=" ... " /> but it doesn't work with jsf.
I only use the TilesServlet.
any suggestion?
i've also try to define the url like "/css/mycss.css" but in local dosn't work.
