JSF: Problem getting URL paramater in hyperlink_action method

Question

Hello,
I have a problem with getting a parameter value in a hyperlink_action method via URL in a JSP.
I have following URL:
http://server/TestProject/faces/index.jsp?paramname=test
On the index.jsp I have a hyperlink with an action-method hyperlink1_action.
what i want to do is to get the content of the parameter paramname when the user clicks the hyperlink (that means: I want to get the parameter in the hyperlink1_action()-Method).
i know how to get the parameter in general using
FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestParameterMap().get(name);
but this only works in the init-method of my jsp (I�m using Java Studio Creator). In the hyperlink_action method the parameter has the value "null" (if not set in the jsp) or the value set in the jsp for that link using the f:param tag:
<h:commandLink action="#{index1.hyperlink1_action}"
....other properties...
<f:param <name="paramname" value="1"/>
</h:commandLink>
In the action method I want to do something like this:
if(paramname.equals("test"))
return "gotToPage1"; // navigate to page1
else
return "goToPage2"; //navigate to page2
I tried out the tips on http://balusc.xs4all.nl/srv/dev-jep-com.html and some other examples in the sun forums but in the action method I still cannot access the desired parameter value (i can access the parameter but it seems to lose the value). I don`t want to save the value in a session bean property in the init-method because the init() is being called every time the page is submitted and the property will be overwritten.

I�ve already tried this in the managed-beans.xml (in creator the beans are defined in this xml-file)

and this in my bean class
private String paramname1;
// Getters ----------------------------------------------------------
public String getParamname1() {
return paramname1;
// Setters ----------------------------------------------------------
public void setParamname1(String paramname1) {
this.paramname1 = paramname1;
The methods work fine but the value is still null once the action method is being invoked.
I�ll try to use javascript but I hoped that there is a lot easier way to do this.
Does anybody has an explanation why it behaves so strange?
