JSF Rendering in IE 7 and Firefox 2.0

Hello everyone,
I have developed a JSF page and have been testing it mostly with Firefox 2.0. I liked how it worked: when virtual forms where submitted only the related components where re-rendered. However, when using IE 7 or firefox 1.0 (haven't tested with firefox 1.5), every time any virtual form is submitted, the browser seems to re-render the entire page, this is really annoying for users since, when you have scrolled down the page and submit one of the virtual forms, the browser scrolls you back to the top. This is ridiculous since simply ordering a table at the bottom of the page takes user back to the top.
I thought I could avoid that by using of Virtual Forms, without Ajax (ajax4jsf) components.
So far it seems to me it's more of a browser issue, and there's not much I can do on the server side besides Ajax. I might be wrong, and that's why I'm asking the forums.
Am I doing something wrong?? How could I make IE behave like Firefox 2.0 without resorting to Ajax?? do I have any alternatives to Ajax?? any suggestion is welcome.
Thanks.

What is not working?

    The rogue bracket may only be part of the problem. What's this below - 0px; top: 2px; ???? Seems as though you declared the position further up the css cascade top: 8px; left: 0px; ?????

  • TypeKit issues: fonts stopped rendering in IE 9 and Firefox, etc.

    Hi,
    A few days ago we created an Edge animation that uses a Typekit font, put in the animation on a web page built with Muse, and uploaded that site to Creative Cloud.  Everything worked perfectly on IE, Firefox and Chrome (although Chrome's rendering of all fonts on this site is a bit blurry compared to IE and Firefox.)
    Then, about yesterday, we noticed that the Typekit font wasn't rendering in Firefox; and we noticed that today it stopped renderingin IE.  (It still displays, a bit blurry, on Chrome).
    Is this a known issue? Any tips?
    Also: the typekit font never rendered on Opera browser (when viewing the hosted site, or when using preview in browser command in either Edge  Animate or Muse) .
    Also the site has never worked in Safari for Windows
    Thanks,
    Richard (for William Anderson)

    I would ask your question over in Typekit's help which is here https://typekit.com/help or you can email [email protected]

  • Rendering issue with Netbeans and Firefox

    Very new at using JSF, in fact I am using it from Nebeans 6.1. Once I create the pages using the visual designer, in IE, for the most part they look as they were designed, however when I view them in Firefox, listbox seems to be the original size and spacing between components is larger than IE. Not sure how to fix this, any help appreciated.
    Edited by: robucf3 on Jun 4, 2008 8:35 AM

    I have read up on the two subjects and I have looked at the generated code, in fact I had to tweak some of it to get the CSS to work. In any case, is there anything specific for me to look at, some attribute that maybe needs setting, etc?
    Found this:
    # Issue #95022: Resizing of textfield and other components does not work.
    Description: Due to a change in Woodstock components, resize handles have been removed from the following Woodstock components: TextField, TextArea,PasswordField, DropDown and ListBox. This issue impacts especially projects imported from Java Studio Creator and NetBeans Visual Web Pack 5.5/5.5.1. Resized components may look different from how they looked in previous releases.
    Workaround: For TextField and TextArea components, use the columns and rows attributes, respectively. DropDown and ListBox components are automatically resized to the size of the longest item by the browser.

  • Different Layout rendered in IE and Firefox

    Hi,
    I have a page designed which contains at "top" level (just inside) <body><form1><div> a gridPanel nested in a groupPanel.
    The gridPanel contains three images which form a nice looking
    top border with round (of course! :) edges on the right and left end.
    I set all border, margin, etc. settings explicit to 0px.
    In a Firefox it renders like this:
    http://www.bookon.de/Firefox_correct_layout.GIF
    And in a IE 6.0 it renders like this:
    http://www.bookon.de/IE_broken_layout.GIF
    Between the images the IE fills a margin(?) of a few pixels.
    I allready checked the css_ie55up.css and css_master.css in \com\sun\rave\web\ui\defaulttheme\css and used <Ctrl-Alt-Click> on the images to determine from where they might inherit something influencing this. But I realized that using <Ctrl-Alt-Click> does not take into account the css_ie55up.css file? How should the tool know about which browser renders the page? But this is of course a minor problem to me.
    The main problem remains: How do get a consistent view in at least IE and Firefox. I have not tried other browsers yet.
    Has anybody experienced anything similar and found a workaround for this?
    Any hint or help is really appreciated,
    Jrgen Hoffmann

    Encountered...yes.
    Found an easy work around...no.
    I've also tested it out on Safari and noticed similar quirks.

  • Firefox will not render the font "maximo" correctly in the browser. It renders correctly in Chrome and Safari. Why is this?

    I am designing a website and having difficulty with @fontface in Firefox only. Font is "maximo" and is a ttf. It renders perfectly in Chrome and Safari but will not do so in Firefox. I changed my firefox preferences to allow pages to choose their own fonts and wonder if there is something I am missing. When I checked the Tools menu drop down and opened the inspector, the inspector shows that the font is rendering as Helvetica. I am using a mac and running OS X 10.9.5. I would be happy to send screenshots.

    It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
    Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Profiles
    New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
    If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
    There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes.
    If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
    Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

  • Safari (and Firefox) rendering huge spaces between lines of text.

    I have a Mac user (a designer, a PC guy outside of work) who has somehow managed to screw up the rendering of text in Safari.
    On his Mac in both Safari and Firefox when a couple of lines of text from a website should render as:
    1st line of text.
    2nd line of text.
    Instead render as:
    1st line of text.
    2nd line of text.
    Has anyone else seen this? Considering he also gets to mess around with his fonts since he a) uses suitcase, and b) is a designer, I am thinking he has either messed up his browser fonts, or possibly corrupted some of his system fonts by importing some of the very broken font/type sets which Windows allows to be used.
    Once he takes off for the day I'll be able to figure out for sure what he's done, but in the mean time while he's trying to customize his Porche with a Lada engine I'm searching for similar experiences and solutions.
    Thanks.

    I'm having the same problem with the main apple home page with Safari --extra returns--and it's also happening with Complex HTML message in Entourage (Office 2004)--not all, just messages with tables. The html rendering engine for Entourage, I believe, is Safari. I've updated to the latest versions of Panther and Office and even changed fonts, thrown away preferences. I still have the extra returns.
    Does anyone know if Safari is the html rendering engine for Entourage 2004? I know that Internet Explorer was the engine for Office X.
    Does anyone have a suggestion to fix this?
    Thanks,

  • JSF rendering problem in IE

    Hi,
    I am having a problem with the following JSF page:
    <f:view>
    <afh:html binding="#{backing_add_Sponsor.html1}" id="html1">
    <afh:body binding="#{backing_add_Sponsor.body1}" id="body1">
    <h:form binding="#{backing_add_Sponsor.form1}" id="form1">
    <af:panelPage title="Add - Sponsor"
    binding="#{backing_add_Sponsor.panelPage1}"
    id="panelPage1">
    <af:message binding="#{backing_add_Sponsor.message1}" id="message1"/>
    <h:panelGrid columns="3" binding="#{backing_add_Sponsor.panelGrid1}"
    id="panelGrid1">
    <af:outputText value="Sponsor Name"
    binding="#{backing_add_Sponsor.outputText2}"
    id="outputText2" inlineStyle="font-size:small;"/>
    <h:inputText binding="#{backing_add_Sponsor.inputText1}"
    id="inputText1" size="30" tabindex="1"/>
    <af:outputText value="Sponsor Address 1"
    binding="#{backing_add_Sponsor.outputText3}"
    id="outputText3" inlineStyle="font-size:small;"/>
    <h:inputText binding="#{backing_add_Sponsor.inputText2}"
    id="inputText2" size="30" tabindex="2"
    style="background-color:transparent;"/>
    Problem is that some fields in this form are displayed differently in Internet Explorer and Firefox. In IE some of them have yellow background, that disappears during the page refresh and is displayed again after the page is refreshed. For example, the "Sponsor Name" field has no background color, while "Sponsor Address 1" has. In Firefox all the fields are correctly displayed without the background color.
    Did anyone have similar problem?
    Thank you,
    Zrinka

    Hi,
    which version of IE do you use. If this occurs in IE7, please check with IE6. Also, make sure there is no browser setting causing this issue. Different behavior in color usually doesn't point to a rendering but a browser problem

  • Visual editor JSF rendering not working

    Hi,
    I'm trialing the 10.1.0.3EA version of JDeveloper and I can't seem to get the JSF rendering working in the visual editor. I thought that perhaps I'd changed some settings or something so I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled JDeveloper. After the install I created a new application using the default web tech. scope, created default business components from the order and order_items tables in the oe schema, opened the JSF navigation, added a page and tried to drag and drop a read only table onto the page. Instead of the rendering I am getting a hierarchical view of tags with just the tag names, i'm not even getting any of the binding information shown, other than in the property inspector. I'v checked to make sure that the JSP tag libraries in the project settings all have "Execute tags in JSP Visual Editor" checked and in the preferences I have made sure that "Show JSP Tag Names Only" is unchecked. Does this functionality not work by default from the install or am I missing something?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Lee Proctor.

    Of course, use the value attribute of the component and set it to EL representing the desired property.

  • Fonts under gtk2 applications and firefox

    I got a 23" wide screen LCD monitor (I used to be on a 17" LCD monitor).
    fonts in Qt4/KDE applications look wonderful on both screens.
    KDE and the fonts are just beautiful now on a wide screen.
    But gtk+ applications and firefox fonts look like poo (used to look fine on old screen). I'm guessing this is a limitation in pango?
    if so, how do I work around it? any patches or whatever for pango?

    Put this in .Xresources (create it if it isn't there):
    Xft.autohint: 0
    Xft.antialias: 1
    Xft.hinting: true
    Xft.hintstyle: hintslight
    Xft.dpi: 96
    Xft.rgba: rgb
    Xft.lcdfilter: lcddefault
    Adjust according to preferences: hintslight, hintfull, hintmedium, rgb, grayscale and so on. Basically, recreate the values in your KDE font preferences panel. Run
    xrdb -merge .Xresources
    . If it still doesn't work, create a file named .fonts.conf in ~ and put this in there:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
    <fontconfig>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="rgba" >
    <const>rgb</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="hinting" >
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle" >
    <const>hintslight</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="antialias" >
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font"><edit mode="assign" name="lcdfilter">
    <const>lcddefault</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    </fontconfig>
    I'm guessing your LCD filter value isn't set. You may need to log out and back in. I had the same thing happen in Gnome. Vanilla freetype has better rendering than any of the patched packages IMO, it's just a matter of tweaking.

    Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
    Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
    See here:

  • Table Definitions for Safari and Firefox

    All of the sudden my method to make a table 100% of the
    vertical height of a browser window in Safari and Firefox for the
    Mac has ceased to work. It works fine on PCs. I used both
    Dreamweaver and GoLive in my efforts. Anythougts on how to more
    appropriately or alternatively set this definition correctly?

    Here's the deal.
    A doctype on an HTML page tells the browser how to render the
    page. If
    there is no doctype, or if there is an invalid one, the page
    is rendered in
    quirks mode. If there is a valid doctype, the page is
    rendered in standards
    mode.
    DMX inserted a broken doctype on the page (i.e., functionally
    equivalent to
    no doctype). Earlier versions inserted NO doctype. Hence, all
    these pages
    are rendered in quirks mode.
    In quirks mode, the browser makes an attempt to render
    invalid HTML. Not
    all browsers attempt the same rendering - so you will see a
    variety of
    differences, comparing one browser to the next on the same
    page.
    In standards mode, the browsers all render the same (so they
    say - but in
    practice, while not true, it's much more uniform).
    Table height is invalid HTML. It always has been - it was
    never a part of
    HTML's specs.
    Browsers in quirks mode will try to render table heights.
    Browsers in
    standards mode willl not.

  • Javascript not working in Safari and Firefox

    in stead of rendering the html generated by javascript, the html code itself is displayed in both Safari and Firefox.
    The strange thing is that this is only for one of my accounts. This account was transferred using the migration tool from my previous computer, where I also had this problem.
    A brand new generated user account does not show this problem.

    HI,
    In the affected account...
    From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Security tab.
    Make sure: Enable plug-ins and Enable Java and Enable JavaScript are selected.
    Since you are running Snow Leopard, make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode, not 64. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*
    Relaunch Safari.

  • Opera and Firefox on KDE4.2

    Hi all,
    Firefox has it's quirks with KDE4. Tabs are not rendered correctly and controls (drop-down lists, radio buttons, etc) inside web pages look weird with a a silver casting color. Anyway, not a big deal, but I thought I should install and try opera. Well, it works very well. No rendering problems, and it seems very polished and faster than firefox.
    What are your opinions about opera? It seems very robust and I think I will keep it as my default browser.

    Opera is cool.. It's by far the most customizable browser out there. You can make it behave like vimperator with a custom keyboard file, you can create own buttons with your own functions, you can completely change its looks, because every panel with all that is on it, can be rearranged the way you want it. In addition to this its bloody fast and the inbuilt RSS reader and Email Client are kinda nice too (tho they need some getting used to, because they have a different paradigm)
    It has an inbuilt urlfilter.ini that you can customize to your needs and Firefox' Stylish is nothing but a rip-off of opera's UserCSS. Bugs are normally solved very quickly too.
    An example: i made myself a button, that, when i click it, will automatically open google bookmarks page and fill in the values of my last opened webpage...
    On the other hand it doesnt have a plugin system. True enough. While most of firefox' extensions are nothing but useless. Who needs a full blown ftp client in the browser? Why embedding all kind of applications in firefox?
    The most useful plugins (tabmix, adblock plus, vimperator, fire gestures) are just copies of opera functions. i have to admit tho that adblock plus is easier to handle than opera's urlfilter.ini.
    All in all opera is a really nice browser that behaves just the way you set it up. Most ppl just dont get so far, because they dont even try to customize it.
