JSP and images

HI
i have a problem with the images. i am not sure whether its because of the chart library or something in JSP. let me describe my problem :
i my application [ which is web base, developed using JSP], i have to display graphs. the graph images are generated dynamically based of user selection and stuff. but my problem is that the images are generated fine, but the images which are displayed on the page are old images, so when i refresh the page i get to see the new images !!!
i wonder why ! does anyone have a clue as to why i see old images of my grraphs even though the new ones have been generated !
do write in ASAP if u have an idea as to why this happens or write in the solution !
thanks in advance
Vikram

Maybe you should try Cewolf which is a chart tag library based on JFreeChart to generate all kinds of charts in a JSP. See http://cewolf.sourceforge.net.

  • Jsp and image cache problem

    Hello,
    In a jsp(running on tomcat) I switch two jpg files(1.jpg and 2.jpg) and redirect to the page that displays them.
    The problem is that the files are really changed, but the page which displayed them needs manual refresh to "know" they are inter-changed.
    What I have tried, but no success:
    1) In the page which displayed them, I have tried to setup header:
    response.setHeader("cache-control","no-cache, no-store,must-revalidate, max-age=-1");
    response.setHeader("pragma","no-cache, no-store");
    response.setDateHeader ("expires", -1);no difference, in both IE(6 and 7) and Firefox 2.
    Also no result with html:
    <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache">
    <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="-1">2) I have tried to a add a fake param on the images, like
    <a href="1.jpg?<%=(new java.util.Date()).getTime() %">3) I have tried to add also a fake(time) parameter on the jsp which displayes the images, no result
    How can I force the browser to know that I have inter-changed the images?
    Any idea?
    Thank you.</a>

    to traja47 : could you be more specific about that post? Since there are 30,000 plus post about jsp and my sql, thank you very much.
    to jSweep :
    No exceptions.
    just when i ran it, the page is all empty, then I used the VIEW-SOURCE of IE to see the source of the result page, it showed:
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Accessing data in a database</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
    all the parts related to java are gone. don't know why.

  • JSP and Images with database

    Ok, I have looked around on posts on this forum but still haven't come across an answer. I am trying to create a simple jsp page that contains some thumbnail images. The image locations are stored in a mysql database (e.g. http://www.somewhere.com/images/image1.jpg"). Assuming that I didn't know how many images were stored in the mysql table, how can I set up a jsp page that will automatically retreive all the image locations from the database and put the appropriate tags in the jsp to display all the images in an html table? In other words, I am trying to avoid writing in the jsp page a bunch of <tr><td><img src=.....></td></tr> statements. Do I need to do this with a tag library? You help is much appreciated! Let me know if I need to be more clear.
    Keith

    <%@page import="java.sql.*" %>
    <table boder="1">
    <%
    Statement statement;
    Connection conn;
    String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/dbName";
    String user = "username";
    String pass = "password";
    try {
        class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
        conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, user, pass);
        statement = conn.createStatement();
    String query = "SELECT images FROM database";
    ResultSet results = statement.executeQuery(query);
    while(results.next()) {
    %>
        <tr>
            <td><img src="<%= results.getString("images") %>"></td>
        </tr>
    <% } %>
    </table>The while loop will loop through your result set and print the table row for each image it finds in the query.
    Hope this helps,
    Jon

  • Caching JSPs and images...

    I have recently started using pragma's to stop the browser caching jsp files:-
    response.setHeader("Pragma","No-cache");
    response.setHeader("Cache-Control","no-cache");
    response.setDateHeader("Expires",0);
    But will that stop the browser from caching images associated with the page ? I have a background image, which whilst not large, would cause alot of additional bandwidth consumption if it had to be downloaded with every jsp page request.
    Thanks.

    To be honest with you, the browser decides.
    The specification states that if you decide to refresh a web page, the browser should first check to see if there's a new version. If there have been no changes, it should use the version that's already in your "temporary files". The no cache directive is supposed to tell the browser not to bother checking, but go ahead and download the web page again.
    This applies for everything that's on the page. So yes, it would download the background again.
    However, I image that some of the latest generation browsers (such as Opera, Konq, Mozilla and Safari) bend the rules slightly. They recognize that an image is a background image because it's in the body tag, likely to be repeated throughout an entire site, and thus always checks for a new image regardless of whether you cache it or not.
    No cache is just a suggestion, not a requirement. If you're developing in a corporate workspace where everyone is using IE (for example), then I would go ahead and just test it.
    Keep in mind that if your JSP page has to dynamically generate content (usually by accessing a database), then the Servlet Engine always informs the browser that it is a new page. You don't need need to specify no cache in order to get the browser to always look for the most recent version.

  • Deploying a WAR file containing .jsp and servlets (also uses JNI)

    Deploying a WAR file containing .jsp and servlets (also uses JNI) on Windows 2000
    We had problems making it initially work on Sun ONE Web Server 6.0 Service Pack 1 because of lack of good iPlanet Web
    Server documentation on deploying such files.
    This is how we went about it:
    1) Make one of the servlet and JSP (must call another Java Class) web application (.war) examples work with iPlanet Web
    Server.
    C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\HelloWorld\HelloWorld.war
    and
    C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\jakarta-examples\jarkarta-examples.war
    a) Go to your Web Server Administration to deploy the application using GUI Web Application Deploy.
    (We usually use command line, we experienced some issues with the GUI version, but maybe it is fixed in the new Web Server
    service packs)
    From browser, open http://yourserver:8888/
    Click on Select a Server:Manage
    Click on Virtual Server Class
    Click on https-yourserver
    Click on the Web Applications Tab
    Then, click on Deploy Web Application
    Enter the following -
    WAR File On: Local
    WAR File Path: C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\jakarta-examples\jarkarta-examples.war
    Application URI: /jakarta
    Installation Directory: c:\iPlanet\examples\jakarta-examples
    By clicking on OK it deployed the application.
    I can verify that it is deployed by selecting "Edit Web Applications" and I see the following entry:
    Edit     /jakarta     c:/iPlanet/examples/jakarta-examples
    Also, c:/iPlanet/examples/jakarta-examples should have the similar following directory structure ..
    - [images]
    - [jsp]
    - index.html
    - [servlets]
    - [META-INF]
    - [WEB-INF]
    - [classes]
    - [tlds]
    - web.xml
    - index.html
    I restarted the server and accessed it using the following URL from my IE browser:
    http://yourserver/jakarta/index.html
    Then I clicked on the JSP Examples and tried some JSP examples.
    b) Alternatively, you can also deploy the same example from the command-line.
    Make sure C:\iPlanet\Servers\bin\https\httpadmin\bin\ is in your path
    wdeploy deploy      -u /jakarta
              -i yourserver
              -v https-yourserver
              -d c:\iplanet\examples\jakarta-examples
              C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\jakarta-examples\jarkarta-examples.war
    Restart the web server (I don't think you have to restart, but .. might as well).
    2)Deploy your web-application
    My Foo.war has the following structure.
    You can use jar tf Foo.war to look at the file contents from command line (assuming you have JDK installed and the bin is
    in your PATH)
    Foo.war
    - [META-INF]
    - [WEB-INF]
    - web.xml
    - [classes]
    - Bar.class
    - MoServlet.class
    - [lib]
    - ThirdParty.jar
    - [natlib]
    - extlib.dll
    - foo.jsp
    Here is our application scenario:
    foo.jsp uses a class call Bar (it is not in any package). The Bar java class uses classes from ThirdParty.jar. The
    ThirdParty.jar in turn uses JNI to load library extlib.dll. foo.jsp also calls /servlet/Mo as well.
    Now to deploy it, do the following:
    (a) Make sure that within foo.jsp, you import the Bar class ( I don't know why you have to do it, but if you don't you get
    JSP compile error).
    <%@page language="java" import="Bar" contentType="text/html"%>
    (b) Check web.xml (for Servlets)
    Within web.xml, make sure you have the following mappings:
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name> MoLink </servlet-name>
    <servlet-class> MoServlet </servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name> MoLink </servlet-name>
    <url-pattern> /servlet/Mo </url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    (c) Deploy the application
    Using command line:
    wdeploy deploy      -u /foo
              -i yourserver
              -v https-yourserver
              -d c:\iplanet\examples\foo-dir
              Foo.war
    (d) Change web-apps.xml file (for picking up ThirdParty.jar)
    It is located in
    C:\iPlanet\Servers\https-yourserver\config
    You should see something similar to following after successful deployment.
    <web-app uri="/foo" dir="C:\iPlanet\examples\foo-dir" enable="true"/>
    Change it to look like following to pick up the ThirdParty.jar
    <web-app uri="/foo" dir="C:\iPlanet\examples\foo-dir" enable="true">
    <class-loader reload-interval="300"
              classpath="C:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/WEB-INF/lib/ThirdParty.jar"
              delegate="false"/>
    </web-app>
    (e) Change jvm12.conf file (for JNI)
    It is located in
    C:\iPlanet\Servers\https-yourserver\config
    Add or uncomment the following lines:
    #optional - just helps with instrumenting the jsp and servlet code
    jvm.include.CLASSPATH=1
    jvm.enableDebug=1
    nes.jsp.enabledebug=1
    jvm.trace=7
    jvm.verboseMode=1
    #required for JNI
    java.compiler=NONE
    jvm.classpath=.;C:\JDK1.3.1\lib\tools.jar;C:/iPlanet/Servers/plugins/servlets/examples/legacy/beans.10/SDKBeans10.jar;
    jvm.option=-Xrs
    jvm.option=-Xnoagent
    # not sure if this is needed for iPlanet web server
    jvm.option=-Djava.library.path=C:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/natlib/ -Djava.compiler=NONE
    (f) Change magnus.conf file (for JNI)
    We HAD to change this file in order for ThirdParty.jar file to pick up the native C++ code using JNI. Apparently, the
    iPlanet Web Server doesn't pick the Environment Variable Path. Because when we had the directory containing the DLL just
    in Path, it didn't work.
    Change Extrapath directive:
    ExtraPath C:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/bin;${NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH}
    to
    ExtraPath c:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/natlib;C:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/bin;${NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH}
    (g) Apply changes from the Web Server Administration Console and Restart the web server.
    You should be able to see the behaviour that you want from your application.

  • Jsp and JavaBean problem

    Hi All,
    I need UR help
    Problem:
    I have a javaBean and a jsp page say test.class and test.jsp respectively.
    Now the problem is when i run my jsp in web browser with path
    http://localhost:8080/mypackage/test.jsp and use test.class in it. It give me an error Class test.class Not Found but when i give the path http://localhost:8080/examples/jsp/parentpackage/mypackage/test.jsp
    it works fine.
    I am using Tomcat 3.2 and i have already made changes in server.xml for my jsp files thats why i can run my programs with the earlier path but dont know why its giving the error when i use javabean,
    Also i have put my javabean class in---parentpackage/mypackage/test.class
    Thanks

  • Capture output myPage.jsp and send by email

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to capture HTML output produced by myFirstPage.jsp and then send it by java mail.
    The first problem is : How can I capture the output?
    Is right to call myFirstPage.jsp from another jsp page (by use HttpURLConnection) and then write a myOutput.hml file?
    Moreover,the second problem is : How can I send Html file with all images incluted?
    I read about use CID, but how can I read dynamically Images from HTML file and replace the Path with a CID Reference and then put all HTML file in messageBodyPart ??
    Thanks in advances
    Francesco.

    The first problem is : How can I capture the output?
    Is right to call myFirstPage.jsp from another jsp page (by use HttpURLConnection) and then write a myOutput.hml file?That would work.
    But there is a better way.
    You can use a javax.activation.URLDataSource for your Email.
    DataSource mailContent = new URLDataSource("http://localhost/myFirstPage.jsp");
    That will connect to the URL, and use the result as the body of the message.
    Sorry, don't know about including the images as well.
    Cheers,

  • Complex layout and images on webdynpro

    Hello:
    I've been using webDynpro for some apps, and I couldn't help noticing how "hars" the final GUI is... is there a way that I can import an HTML file and start importing eviews from there?
    You know websites usually start in photoshop, I create the layout, images, branding there and then export as -> html and images so I get a really cool layout (designers point of view)
    Then I'd go to dreamweaver and insert all php jsp and programmatic stuff... I'd like to import the htmls into webdynpro instead of dreamweaver, is that possible? if not, how can I embed things like flash, javascript, etc?
    Thanks!
    alejandro

    Hi
    If you are looking for change layout, style, look and feel,... without recompile and that...
    why don't you use WebDynpro themes.
    Go thorugh the follwing Web Dynpro Java
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/business_packages/a1-8-4/nw04stack09themes.zip
    To know how to use it and for the steps to be followed please follow the tutorial here
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/how to edit web dynpro themes.pdf
    the last url gives you a step by step procedure with wizards..

  • Disk cache javascript functions and images

    Hi,
    How can I force client browsers of my web application to cache the images and other javascript entities like css, functions, js files, etc.
    By default it is not caching, though it should have. I have not written any code saying not to cache. Any help.
    Environment : Tomcat server - java beans - jsp [struts framework]
    In Netscape 7 if I say 'page view' it shows images and media files of my applications are not cached. Thats why application is really slow. If I compare this to some other web application which is fast, I see that media files, js files and images gets 'DISK CACHED'.]
    Can anyone explain me what is disk cache and how to get it disk cached?
    Thanks,
    sunil

    Thanks. I now understand whats the concept of disk cache.
    But after lot of analysis also my problem still remains the same. Just that there are some patterns available.
    I have some images in my own application. I also have some images which reference another site [application]. Interestingly all images which reside in my appication are not getting cached. All image which I refer into other site are getting cached. Can anyone makeout anything from this?
    I looked into META tag generated for resulting htmls. But they dint have anything which says browser not to cache.
    Can anyone list any java/jsp/html instructions which can tell browser not to cache stuff.
    Or more importantly is there any setting or instruction or command which I can write in my java/jsp/html which can override any such setting done.
    Thanks,
    Sunil

  • Read China content in JSP and store in Java variable

    Hi All ,
    I have created China language content(BinaryType) using weblogic admin console.
    And I am trying to get the content and to store in a Java Variable .
    Pls suggest me how to read other language content and to store in java variable for manipulation.
    Srinivas
    I am using following lines of code to get content
    <utility:forEachInArray array="<%=newsID%>" id="node" type="com.bea.content.Node">
    INodeManager nodeManager =     ContentManagerFactory.getNodeManager();
         java.io.InputStream is =     nodeManager.getStream(new ContentContext(), node.getId(),
    "News-Content");
    when I am using inputstream "is" to read the china content , its displaying garbage values.

    Hi Rajeev,
    My Content consist of following properties
    News-Author      String
    News-Content      Binary
    News-Id           String
    "News-Content" is Binary Type .I am creating data for this property using Content Editor.
    My data consists of 3 lines of text+image
    data will be:
    author is srinivas
    created on 11th
    content is newscontent
    << inserted image >>
    where << inserted image >> ,is jpeg file.
    I want to read this data in the JSP and store in java variable , so that i can modify 1st two lines and updated data to be displayed in browser..
    I am able to read data , if its a simple text . But it has one image also.
    How to solve this issue.

  • Dynamically Changing stylesheets and images of B2B application

    Hello All,
    We have a requirement to dynamically  change the stylesheets and images of B2B application based on Country  US or UK of the logged-in user.
    On looking into B2B source code, we identified  that stylesheets are defined in init-config.xml , ExtendedInitStyleHandler, BrowserType, ExtendedStyleManager, java classes are used.
    Can  anyone  provide suggestions how this can be achieved?
    Thanks,
    Raj

    What you are trying to achieve is not a simple task. It is better to put some thought and resources to build what yuo need. There is no out-of-the-box way to change the stylesheet dynamically.
    Would it be a feasible option
    No. But technically you can have your own tag with another parameter to specify the country and you can have custom logic to add the right stylesheet.
    The class ExtendedInitStyleHandler initializes the application with the list of stylesheets defined in the init-config.xml and any extensions in the /xcm/customer/modification/initconfig.xml
    It is the tag <isa:stylesheets/> that adds the stylesheet(s) to the JSP and class StyleSheetsTag uses ExtendedStyleManager
    Try this out. Just prior to placing the tag <isa:stylesheets>, use the following class, methods and code in <% Java scriptlet  %>
    public class ExtendedStyleManager;
    public static Iterator getStyles();
    public static void clear(); and
    public static void addStyleSheet(StyleSheet style);
    1. read the current styles (getStyles()),
    2. keep a copy of the safe,
    3. Clear the list (clear()),
    4. Add your country specific stylesheet();
    5. Add rest of the styles you need from the saved list
    6. <isa:stylesheets/>
    It is possible to write a custom tag lib too with the above logic and a country - parameter and use the custom tag in place of the isa tag.

  • Help with jsp and servlets(litterature)

    I'm planning on converting a asp website to jsp and I need to figure out the following:
    1: servlet that gives out connection objects from a pool and manages "lost" connections to a mysql db
    2: a bean that has getConnection and closeConnection that is used on every jsp page.
    3: servlet/bean that can check size/dimesions/filetype on a remote url image
    4: Figure out what users are logged in at every given moment. result: x users are on, these are user1, user2, user3. automatic removal when session runs out. probably need a servlet for this.
    I got these books:
    deitel java how to program 3rd edition
    deitel advanced java 2 platform how to program
    The last book has a servlet and jsp section ut I suspect that java has evolved since then so thats why I'm asking if you have any other suggestions that offer more than 2 chapters. Its really basic the stuff i have :)
    Its been 3 years since I've touched java so i hope you guys can recomend jsp/servlet books that can answer these questions for me and help me get started with this project?
    Thanks :)

    1. apache dbcp commons library.
    http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/dbcp/
    2. tomcat DataSource, which already has the dbpc logic incorporated into it.
    http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html
    3. no idea, google may help
    4. HttpSessionBindingListener. This allows you to monitor when a bean (such as a User bean) is added to the session and when it is removed from the session. This way you can track yourself which users are online.

  • Pass ArrayList to jsp and display first index of resultset?

    Is it possible for me to pass an ArrayList to a jsp, and display the each resultset stored in the ArrayList by the ArrayList index?
    The code below gets passed two paramaters. An invorg, and item. It then creates resultset based upon the Object and puts the results into an ArrayList.
    The resultset returned varies, but the largest resultset that I have received back has not been bigger thatn 10 resultset rows, and the largest number of columns has been 27 columns.
    I would then like to pass the whole ArrayList to the jsp and display the contents for each row based on the index it is on.

    Your arraylist object should be a list of inventory bean objects and then, If you are using struts, you could use logic:iterate tags.. or something equivalent.. you could use forEach in jstl..

  • How to add, JS and image files in portalapp.xml

    Hi All,
    I was trying to implement multiple level hover detailed navigation in iview for which I got couple of css scripts from web which include javascripts.
    I placed these files in respective folders and their reference in header.jsp but when the iview is rendered in browser the reference is changing to .htm
    So please help me out how to place these script / image files in PAR file and their reference in portalapp.xml & header.jsp.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sai Krishna.

    1) The CSS file you have , save as "jsp" file and please place in the jsp folder.
    suppose your jsp is header.jsp and your css file is header_style.jsp
    include the css jsp - header_style.jsp in header.jsp like
    <%-- an include clause for css file --%>
    <%@ include file="header_style.jsp" %>
    2) All your images , please place in the "images" folder.
    3) To access the images use like below: in CSS file (jsp)
    in header_style.jsp
    yourimage: url(<%=mimeUrl%>/images/Border.gif);
    in header.jsp
    <%
    String mimeUrl = componentRequest.getWebResourcePath();
    %>
    4) more info for creating the hover menu read this blog

    Hope this will help you.

  • Difference between jsp and servlets

    Can any body tell me the difference b/w jsp and servlets.
    As i know one difference is to seperate the java code from html. Is there any other difference. please...

    Servlets are a way to run java on a server. They don't necessarily need to be about HTML or even HTTP. You can write servlets that generate images rather than HTML, for example.
    JSP is a way to create servlets that generate HTML. They get translated into servlets (special-purpose servlets). This is sort of glossing over the details -- the power of JSP is that, by being an intersection between HTML and executed Java code, they can provide a way to clearly differentiate between the two.
    That's a way of looking at it anyway.
