Multi Lingual Report issue

Hi Everyone,
All our reports are multi lingual. By setting the "NLS_LANG" parameter the report displays french or spanish or english strings. The problem I am having is when I open this report in the report builder and make any change and save it, the report no longer displays the strings based on the "NLS_LANG" parameter. It only displays the strings in one language based on the "NLS_LANG" value that was set, when the report was saved.
Can any one help me with this issue. How do I save this report so that it continues to display strings/boiler plates based on the "NLS_LANG" parameter.
Thanks!

  • How to design multi-lingual reports w.r.t. boilerplate text

    Hi,
We need to design reports and report templates that are multi-lingual with respect to the boilerplate text in them.
How could this be done, if at all?
I am a bit familiar with the ideas about NLS parameters used to translate and format data that comes from the database, error messages etc., from other OTN posts and Reports documentation.
NLS stuff is NOT what I'm asking about.
Also, I don't think I need to mix languages in one report (or maybe is this part of a possible solution?)
Can I design a report which dynamically displays its boilerplate text parts in different languages, depending on the Windows locale of the user invoking the report?
Can I put all the boilerplate translations inside the report or some report 'configuration' file, rather than somewhere in the database?
If the report is set for batch production and automatic distribution, how would the scheduling mechanism tell the report which language to have its boilerplate text displayed at each invocation?
I think we'll be using Reports Builder 6i for development and will deploy on 9iAS R2 Reports Services. I'm not the actual developer, so I'm not sure about which Report Builder version will be used.
    Thanks a lot,
    Gabriel Tanase

    hello,
there are several ways to do it. i guess the most practical way is to actually use the XML customization feature that is available with reports or use translation hub, but since you stated that you are using 6i this is not an option as translation hub is only available from 9i onwards.
however the XML customziation approach would work for 6i as well. essentailly you create your report and make sure all your boilerplate text items have a uniqe name. then you can create a customization file for each language that then changes the content of each of the poilerpalte items. those can be applied at runtime or in batch.
as for the scheduling, you would need to either pass in a parameter naming the customization file or simply run the correct language version of the report.
    thanks,

  • Multi-Column Report Issue

I am using the Crystal Reports edition bundled with Visual Studio 2005. I have a problem with a multi-column report. It is a two column member directory with family members. It lists the member name, contact info, spouse, and children. I want each family group to stay together, and not break cross a column or a page. Each group may have from 3 to a dozen or so lines.
The family groups will not break across a page (which is good), but they will break across a column (bad). I have tried many combinations of settings to make this work without success.
So I wonder if anyone has seen and resolved this problem, or if perhaps it works better in the full version of Crystal.

In some sub-sections, I have checked 'Suppress Blank Section' checked. In others, I have a suppression formula.
Each section has only a single field.
The record set that the report uses has a single row for each person. The sorting and grouping is arranged so that the first record in each family group is the 'main' member. The report displays this person's name, and also shows the sections which include address and phone number info. Subsequent records are for family members (spouse and/or children). For these records, I display the name, but suppress the address and phone sections.
There is also a detail sub-section used as a group header. This group breaks when the first letter of the last name changes, so it an display a single letter heading ("A"). I had tried this as a regular group header too, but it didn't help.
I have tried combining all the sections into a single one with each field on a separate line (which means the section can have some blank space), and also combined into a text box. No luck.
I also have the group itself set to "Keep Together' in the group expert. Doesn't help/

  • Multi-Lingual JSP Reports

    Hi,
Can I use the customize xml functionality for providing multi-lingual capability for JSP reports?
I have been able to replace report fields labels with foreign language/customized labels for PDF and 6i-style HTML reports. How should one go about implementing this feature for JSP reports (reports with web source).
    Thanks,
    Bharat

    Hi Bharat
I do not think you can use the xml customization for web reports which you run from jsp engine and not through Reports servlet. However if character set setting in your web report jsp page matches with your required language, the report output with come in same lang settings. So you do not have any issue for the data part. And you can edit the web report jsp page to correct the Labels etc.
    Thanks

  • Multi Lingual String not getting displayed properly with Java 1.5.4

    Hi,
I have a strange problem and i think the problem is due to java 1.5.4.
    Problem is:
My application was previously deployed on weblogic6.1 server and jdk used was 1.3.1
After i migrated my application to weblogic 9.2 and started using jdk 1.5.4, i am not able to correctly view the data which is stored in different languages on browser.
    Some more details:
    OS - Linux.
    Database - Informix 9.2
    Intresting part is :
If i enter a new multi lingual string from my application (deployed on WLS 9.2 with JDK 1.5.4) and store it in database, and then try to retreive it, it is displayed correctly.
Issue arises only when the multi lingual string created and stored in database from my old application (deployed on WLS 6.1 with JDK 1.3.1) is retrieved and displayed in the new application (WLS 9.2 with JDK 1.5.4).
Hope my issue is clear and if any one has any clue as to how to solve this issue. Kindly help

  • Use of project view to group project records in multi-project report

I have a summary level multi-project report to report summary level information for active projects.  We are using project view to organize our projects between departments and divisions (hierarchical structure) - represented by folders in project view.  Projects are occasionally moved between project folders.  If anyone has experience with report development using folder structure?  My intent is to create grouping band based on folder structure and list projects under appropriate folder/band.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    I am using CM14.1 with OBIP 10.1.1.7
    Thanks,
    Prath

If you are creating a standard multi-project report (no retrieval criteria; project_state=0)  and you run this report from within PCM, PCM automatically appends to your syntax the filtering criteria for the "folder" the user has highlighted in the project tree.  In this case you would have one report that would retrieve multiple sets of data actively depending upon the project tree position.  I have seen sometimes this causing issues with certain base syntax, but in general this should work.
Sounds, though, like you're building your report to call to the raw project_view tables, and Rick pointed out you need to use both of these tables then most likely.

  • How to generate multi-lingual applications with Designer?

In Designer 10g we have the definitions of hundreds of tables and views and
forms/reports modules. Currently all texts (prompts, hints, comments, help texts, etc) are in Dutch. Because of new customers in Germany, we now have to translate everything into German (and in the future also to French and English etc).
We know that we can use Translation Hub to translate forms and reports,
however, many tables/columns are used by more modules (sometimes 10 or more). So, the translation of each module with the Hub is very inefficient.
We are wondering if there are easier ways. For example, when we translate a
prompt of a tablecolumn, Designer (Headstart) can update all related module items. So, with one translation, we in fact translate many modules at once.
We could perhaps make a copy of the application, but that will work very
inefficiently because each modification has to be done on multiple
    applications.
Has anyone a genius solution for this?
Thanks for your help, Jan Willem

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there isn't a genius solution out there for you. And it isn't a Designer problem, it's an application architecture problem.
You'll notice that Headstart (since you've looked at that) does two things for you. One is that it has utilities to go update many items for you. Two is that it uses standard error and LOV tables which are multi-lingual based. You enter your messages and lookups in many languages (many rows per code, one per language) and the Headstart library logic displays the right row based on the code and the NLS setting. architecture.
In your case, where you have hard-coded everything, if you don't want to re-architect things, then your only solution is to clone things. Probably best off (based on other client experience) to just keep the single model in your base language, develop and gen as you have been, and then work your way through all the source code (database and application components) to do all the translation (as noted the Translation Hub can help some), and then implement each result. At least that way you know all the functional logic works. So you're not introducing any bugs (except for when the translated info is longer then the base info -- as we have here in Canada where French takes up more space then English). sorry. ugly.

  • Multi-lingual (Variance) taking long time

    Hi,
I have a site with one page in English and I have created 12 sites in different languages.
I am facing Slow propagation of content from root site (EN) to 12 other site (Approximately  6 minutes to create 12 pages for 12 lingual sites), which
    is more.
How can I reduce the propagation time?

    Hi ,
I am facing exactly the same issue . I have an English Root site with 10K + contents and I have to propagate them to 15 multi-lingual sub-sites . The propagation time is 6 minutes . After working with the Microsoft team , we found that it was the disk I/O
issue and after migrating the VM to a new host, the time per content came down to 2+ minutes and it was running fine. Now suddenly we are facing the same issue of 6+ minutes. Nothing was changesd after that. What to do , I am really very confused .

  • CUSTOM Service - multi Byte character issue

    Hi Experts,
I wrote a custom Service. What this service is doing, its id reading some data from Database and then generates CSV report. Code is working fine. But if we have multi - byte characters in data, then these characters are not properly shown in report. Given below is my service code :
    byte bytes[] = CustomServiceHelper.getReport(this.m_binder,providerName);
                        DataStreamWrapper wrapper = new DataStreamWrapper();
                        wrapper.m_dataEncoding="UTF-8";
                        wrapper.m_dataType="application/vnd.ms-excel;charset=UTF-8";
                        wrapper.m_clientFileName="Report.csv";
                        wrapper.initWithInputStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(bytes), bytes.length);
                        this.m_service.getHttpImplementor().sendStreamResponse(m_binder, wrapper);
NOTE - This code is working fine on my local ucm (windows) for multi-byte characters. But When I install this service on our DEV and Staging servers (SOLARIS), then multi-byte characters issue occurs.
    Thanks in Advance..!!

  • Multi Lingual Titles

We are developing a fully multi-lingual system and require the text displayed as report titles / headings to vary dependent on a 'locale' parameter. This does not appear to be possible - am I missing something?

  • Multi Project Reports

I am trying to create a multi-project report and am having an issue seeing it in PCM 14.
Here are the steps I did:
    - Copied multi-project report for daily report
    - Changed name to M_Dai_03
    - I didnt really change anything in the report
    - Logged onto PCM 14 Admin and imported reports
    - Loggied onto PCM 14 and clicked print at the top
    - Selected daily reports
    - Only M_Dai_01 and M_Dai_02 show up
Any ideas what is happening? or steps I missed?
    Thanks

In the BIP application there are four steps to copying an existing form or report:
    1.     Save a copy of the data model of the source form or report under a new name
    a.     Navigate to the form or report being copied and then locate the corresponding data model. Each report or form is associated with a data model. The default naming convention for the data models for stock reports and forms has each data model named the same as the associated form or report, preceded by “DM_”. The data model for the M_DAI_02 report, for example, is “DM_ M_DAI_02”.
    b.     Click on the data model title, or on the edit link, to open the data model in edit mode.
    c.     In Data Model screen click on the ‘Save As’ icon in the upper right corner of the screen and save the data model under a new name.
    2.     Save a copy of the source form or report under a new name
    a.     Click on the Catalog link in the upper toolbar and then navigate to the form or report being copied.
    b.     Click on the form or report’s edit link.
    c.     Immediately click on the ‘Save As’ icon in the upper right corner, and save the form or report as a new name.
    3.     Associate the new form or report with the new data model
    a.     In the newly named form or report, the data model link in the upper left corner of the screen will still point to the ‘old’ data model.
    b.     Click on the search icon in the upper left corner to display a list of all the data models within this folder.
    c.     Select the data model created in step 1.
    4.     Replace the layout of the report with a layout named to match the report name.
    a.     Within each report there is a layout which is typically named the same as the report. After saving the report under a new name and associating the report with a new data model, it is recommended to save a new layout named to match the new report name.
    b.     Click on the ‘Edit’ link below the current layout
    c.     Immediately click on the ‘Save As’ icon in the layout edit screen and save the layout under a new name which matches the report name.
    d.     Click on the ‘Return’ button in the toolbar to display the old and new layouts.
    e.     Use the Delete link below the ‘old’ layout to clear this layout. The report name, the layout name and the associated data model will now all match.
    f.     Click the ‘Save’ icon to save this version of the report.
    Hope the above helps.

  • Formatting a multi-block report

I am having trouble with formatting a multi-block report. For some reason, when I get to the second page - the builder automatically starts putting in extra white space at the top of each page thereafter which really throws off my formatting.also, for one of the blocks, the builder puts each record onto its own page. does anyone have any suggestions?

i was unable to resolve the issue -
    it is as follows
i am creating a complex report that includes several different reports and graphs - so the report that i am referring to had to be created manually -
it is a manually created group above report -
the group above works nicely - but between each group there is a page break -
although there is no page break between the last group and the next report block.

  • Multi-record report: content LOV depending on value of current row

    I have a multi-record report based on a query.
For each row in the report it should be possible to choose a value from lov.
The content of the lov is depending on a field in the current row.
Later on I will update a record based on the chosen value but that is not the
    issue right now.
The problem I am facing is that I don't know how to refer in a list to a value
    from the current row.
    For example.
In the example below it should be possible to choose (from the lov) a best buddy for
an employee. The buddy should be an other employee working for the same department.
So in the lov I must refer to the deptno from the current row. How is this possible???
    select empno
    , ename
    , deptno
    , htmldb_item.select_list_from_query
    ( 1
    , empno
, 'select ename, empno from emp where deptno = #deptno# '
    ) buddy
    from emp

    Hi Scott,
I've created this application "TestLov" at the site you mentioned.
    Application ID : 800
    Workspace Name : ANUWKSPC
The first page has an employee report with the solution as suggested by Raju Mattamal in this thread. That query seems to work fine without any errors...(I'm surprised why I'm getting errors on my application with the same query, even though data appears?! Is it to do with some setting?)
The second page has the report with my actual query. This is throwing errors.
On the third page I've tried to implement the solution you've suggested in Tips & Tricks section of HTML DB Studio(Simulating a correlated sub-query in report LOVs)
    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=18326:54:2188928890822530056::::P54_ID:1282
This doesn't seem to work either.
I'm unable to figure out the problem.
Pls look into the application and let me know how I shld go abt this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anu
