Is there any way to invalidate a java session object in JSP page using the "onUnload" page event of HTML/JavaScript?

Yes, as the previous poster suggested, you can forward to a page that invalidates the session, cleans up any necessary code, etc. However, the HTML spec does not make any guarantees as to whether onUnload will be called. Conditions such as the user closing the window provide unexpected results, so just be mindful that if you do use this, do not rely on it to do anything extremely important... but it can certainly be used to clean up sessions before they expire and free up a bit more memory.

If there is a pattern of the application working up to Firefox 3.6.3 and not working starting with Firefox 3.6.4, there could be a problem with trying to communicate events between firefox.exe (which hosts pages) and plugin-container.exe (which hosts some plugins). You can tweak your settings to force plugins to run in firefox.exe to see whether this is the problem. This article has some background information on that:

No, I don't know. Obviously I can't read every post here, but I haven't read about it before.
Is it a stupid question to ask: why does that matter?? To fix the application to work in Firefox 3.6 and above, we need to see a page that works on other browsers and fails in Firefox. It doesn't need to be the whole application, just enough to demonstrate the problem so that if we solve it, then you can apply that learning back to your application. -
Evaluation of excel formula to jsp/javascript

i am having one typical problem (this is returns on investment(ROI)based)i am having a formula in excel sheet that has to be implimented in jsp or java script. the inbuilt function in excel is NPV
NPV($F$11,H19:Q19)+G19(it is like this in my formula bar)
Syntax
NPV(rate,value1,value2, ...) even some formula is given in the help
can anybody help me how to calculate this using jsp/javascript and can give me the src code for this calculation.

You try different interest rates until the NPV is as close
to 0 as you can get.
To calculate the IRR you will need the following:
(1) A starting point for the rate (the 'guess' argument in Excel)
(2) Your cash flows array (the 'values' argument in Excel)
You will also have to decide:
(3) How many attempts to make before giving up.
(4) How close to NPV = 0 is acceptable
(5) How to increment the interest rate
Now you make a loop.
Calculate the NPV.
If the NPV is > 0 try a higher rate.
If the NPV is < 0 try a lower rate.
If you are 'close enough' then return the rate.
If you have exceeded your maximum attempts then return
some value like 'not-a-number' -

Unknown problem with JSP, JavaScript - Pls help

I am facing a strange problem. Explained it below. Kindly help me as it is really affecting my work. Thanks in advance.
I am working on building a web application using jsp, servlet, ejb. the IDE used is WSAD 5.1.2.
I have the below :
1 JSP - Input page - for user input entry
2. Java script1 - For all client side validations
Java script2 - For handling the data submission to servlet (as selected by user)
Javascript3 - Header & Menu Bar
3 Servlet - This actually retrieves the values from the hidden parameters, sets them in session and redirects the control back to the jsp.
Logic for one small iteration : Two drop downs are there. On selecting the first drop down the second drop down should be populated and the first drop down should display the user selected value.
1. When the user selects the first drop down onchange() event gets fired which calls a method in the javascript.
2. In the javascript I set the value of a hidden form field to the selected combo index and submit the form to the servlet
3. In the servlet, I retrieve the hidden request parameter (Index),
set the index in session. Do my business logic based on the value of the index. Set the collection (to be displayed) in second drop down in session.
4. Send the response back to the JSP.
5. In the JSP, we have a method which is called during the onload() event of the body
6. This method sets the user selected values in appropriate controls(by taking from session)
Problem faced: I have a javascript which creates the menu bar for my application and this i've included it in my jsp. I dont know whats wrong with this javascript, when it is commented out the page works perfectly fine. Both the user selected value and the collection are loaded exactly as expected. But when it is included the collection is loaded in the second drop down but the selected index of the first drop down is not set - the drop down gets reset to the default value.
Also on body load of my jsp, I call a javascript method which sets the current date in one text field of my form. Even this is not working fine when I include this javascript. I don't see any script error in this javascript in my browser though. Strange but guess something basic :(
I'm sure there is nothing to do with session. I've tried printing the entire flow. The Servlet sets the values correctly in session and they are also correctly available in the JSP page. The JSP also gets loaded with the user selected values but something happens on page load which clears the values to default.
Am also confused in what way javascript is related to this, coz when I remove it things are working fine.
Am really helpless here pls do the needful. any help is appreciated.

Hi, basically I want to read the values from one page to another one, but I have found that when call the jsp from a javascript function it does not work!!! ... if I call the page "getValues.jsp" directly from the <form action>, everything works perfectly ...
... does anyone know how to read the values without putting the jsp directly into the <form action>?
In asp i used to get the values from the form with a "Request.Form('fieldName')" method, and i could call the asp from any javascript function. Does jsp has anything similar to that?

Is there a way we can go the other way, i.e. assigning a javascript variable value to a JSP variable?

If not, is there a direct way of assigning the value.

Indrasish.Yeah, that's it. Remember that JSPs are compiled into servlets then sent as HTML to your browser. Once the page is sent to your browser, there is nothing else the "JSP" part of it can do. It's already been processed, done it's thing, and sent the results to your browser.

I create a custom jsp for teaming and trying to load some information from database.
Using javascript(Ajax) request.url to call "get.jsp" to load from db.

Hi,
using HTML/JS form, the user chooses an empty map(say usamap.jpg). he also chooses a text file that contains data about the map. the user is also allowed to choose a color that denotes a particular range ie all regions in the range 1000 to 2000 to be represented by pink color.is it possible to use JSP such that the color chosen by the user(ie pink) is applied to specific regions on the map?

i am giving a detailed problem of mine below:
i have an blank outline map of Europe (ie it contains only the boundaries of each and every country) . This map is in SVG format.
also i have a text file that contains the name of each country with their respective population values.
now i need to use servlet or JSP to acheive the following functionality:
all countries in one particular range are to be given a color, countries in another range are to be given another color etc. for example say Spain, France and Denmark all lie in the same range say(10000 to 30000). england, italy and sweden lie in the same range say (40000 to 60000).
now i want to use servlets/JSP such that spain, france and denmark are represented in pink color while england,italy and sweden are to be represented in blue color etc
how can this be done?

How can i retrive the dynamically created radio button values and also want to get the clicked radio button values.I am using JSP and JAVA beans to retrive the values from the form. I dont have any probs to retrieve combo box values, text box values only problem showing with radio button values. If any data which is entered wrong in the form all the fields should prefills with the old value.Except radio button values all others fields such as combo box, text box values are prefilled with the old values.

You will need to insert these field into the form definition.
Now, to get a valeu from a radio button, you need only to do request.getAttribute("fieldName").
To generate dinamically all radio button values, i need to know where are these information? In database? If yes, you need to read the resultset na in value attribute you need to do somethink like this <input type=radio name=fieldName value="<%out.println(resultset.getString("FieldName"));%>">

Javascript to JSP question...Can javascript function set session attributes

i have a web app that, on one of its pages, displays "tabbed pane" as an image map at the top (a la amazon.com). my problem is this: each "logical" page contains separate forms that all use the same javabean. in other words, imagine that the tabs represent an account maintenance web ui for an on-line record store. the first tab might be labeled "General," the second "Contact info," the third "Shipping Info." Each uses the same account bean and displays portions of its properties relevant to the tab at hand. what i want to do is allow a user to enter the account maintenance ui, update info on the first tab, click on tab two and have the request with the changes sent to a processing jsp. yet, since each "tab" is actually a separate URL to another page, how do i get the updated info on the first tabe without adding some sort of "SAVE" button on each tab. ive considered using javascript, but dont know how to get the request params out of the first tab whn i click on another tab. is it possible to include an "onClick" function in each URL that "grabs" the updated form fields off the preceeding tab? can a javacript function set session attributes in jsp?hello there,
wow, you've created one big mammy-jammy tool.
first, javascript cannot access, set values to the session, without having to post to another JSP. javascript is great for manipulating objects, layers, form values, etc.
you have 2 issues [if i understand correctly]:
1) you need to able to save user info for a specific tab without having to reloading the page.
---you can create a form for EACH of your tabs and POST all the information to a hidden IFRAME or LAYER for NN4. that hidden IFRAME / LAYER will load a JSP page which with all the parameters you posted to it. or you can build a FRAMESET and target that document["frame-name"].src with that same JSP.
2) handling when the SAVE INFO action should happen: hence some javascript event handler: onMouseOver, onClick, etc
---i don't know the dynamics of your tabs, but if store which tab was clicked on last, then if the user clicks on some other tab, javascript can submit that FORM to a JSP [see condition above]

Can we call a javascript fun through jsp page without any event

I am new to jsp,javascript and i have a little question.
If i make a function in a js file and want to call it from a jsp file without any event ,ie can i write some thing like <%abc()%> in ths jsp page ,which call the function from another .js file.
I suppose that it can be done as gmail page reloads it self after some time and for http mostly we use pull ie request from the client side ,so i think that they must be doing something like timer expiry and reload themselves.
please help me with the solution.

The JS runs in the client, not on the server, so you would just be writing JS code as HTML... If your page is like this and the myscript.js file defines 2 functions (function1, function2), you can call them on page load in either of these ways. I'm not sure offhand which would get called first, but the scripts called inline in the page would be called in the order they are defined in the page. But that is all HTML, it has nothing to do with JSP.

Passing parameter from Servlet to javascript in JSP. Very Urgent - 5 jukes!
Well my servlet will retrieve questions from database.
Then the player will answer the question in the JSP and submit the answer to the servlet to process.
Each time an answer is submitted, or a "Next Question" button is clicked, the countdown time will restart.
And will reload the page with a new question.
So how can i do that?
