Looks like you did not close the jsp:plugin tag. Double check your quotes, make sure you do not have an extra one, or are missing one (although the code you posted looks okay)... also, try removing the space between the attribute = "value" pairs in the tag, ie:
    <jsp:plugin type="applet" code="ViewerApplet.class"
                codebase="http://javasystem:8080/JViewer1/viewer/paragon"
                width="500" heigth="500">
//instead of:
    <jsp:plugin type = "applet" code = "ViewerApplet.class"
                codebase = "http://javasystem:8080/JViewer1/viewer/paragon"
                width = "500" heigth = "500">

    i have placed the jsp and applet class in the same folder. but its not working.

  • How to see JSP compilation errors - Tomcat 4.1.18- JDK 1.4

    Hi There,
    I'm kind of new to JSP world, so once in while I forget to put a ; or I put a variable name wrong (I usualy use Eclipse to do my coding in JAVA, but the existing plugins for JSP development are still in their early stages, so there's isn't any plugin that indicates errors on JSP before deploying them).
    When I try to see a JSP, if it has an error (compilation-time error), I get this message:
    <--->
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
    An error occurred at line: -1 in the jsp file: null
    Generated servlet error:
    [javac] Compiling 1 source file
    <--->
    This doesn't help me a lot to fix the problem, I would like to, at least, see from what line the error came from.
    Help anyone?
    Thank You
    Pinho

    This kind of errors often come from syntax error in
    the jsp page.
    Tomcat is not very friendly with this kind of errors.
    A trick is to open the java file under the 'work'
    directory and checkIsn't there any way to show the error on a page, just like a run-time error?
    Maybe changing some log setting?

  • Jsp plugin in page fragment

    Would like to include an applet in a page fragment, however JSC is not happy.
    Create a page fragment, add a
    jsp: plugin tag and jsc complains with the error:
    The prefix "jsp" for element "jsp: plugin" is not bound.
    Have tried setting this plugin inside a panel grid and also within the div itself.
    So - how do I include a jsp : plugin in a page fragement?

  • Jsp:plugin applet code

    Hi all, I've been wondering if applets can be dynamically called from a jsp or servlet using strings in the applet code section. would this be good if a database was used to store the paths of the applets?
    i've tried this with a small applet in different ways, just to see the effect in Apache Tomcat 4.1.24, but it didn't really work. could anyone help me out here?
    the coding i've been using is below :
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" language="java" import="java.sql.*" errorPage="" %>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    </head>
    <body>
    Here is the applet!
    <br>
    <jsp:plugin type="applet" code="ElecBill_a" codebase="." height="200" width="200" >
         <jsp:fallback>
              <p> Unable to use Java Plugin</p>
         </jsp:fallback>
         </jsp:plugin>
    <br>
    <applet code = "ElecBill_a.class" height="200" width="200"></applet>
    //up to here it works fine, both applets appear. but below, the string is read directly and causes an error
    <%! String myapplet = new String("ElecBill_a"); %>
    <%! public String getName() {return myapplet; } %>
    <br> The name of the class file is <%= getName() %>
    <br>
    <jsp:plugin type="applet" code="<%= "myapplet" %>" codebase="." height="200" width="200" >
         <jsp:fallback>
              <p> Unable to use Java Plugin</p>
         </jsp:fallback>
         </jsp:plugin>
    </body>
    </html>

    yes, i suppose it doesn't. i've tried to insert it using the original way with the applet tag like this
    <APPLET code = <%= getName() %> width=300 height=300>
    </APPLET>
    and this works...so i might go with this for a short term solution until i can figure out a better way...thanks!

  • Path Pronlem with jsp:plugin 's codebase

    I am unable to call my JApplet Class with <jsp:plugin> tag in my JSP Page. I have tried almost every combination for codebase (absolute and relative paths ) but still there is an Error ClassNotFound .
    Please tell me the right way to call the Applet in JSP.
    along with a small example ...
    Jsp and the Class File exists in Different directories in My Web Project.

    Well, then I would just put in the object/embed tags yourself. You can get whatever the plugin tag writes by just using the tag once with static values and view the source in the browser and copy it out, then replace whatever values with scriptlets (or other taglib tags) to fill in the correct values.

  • Overiding classid/type on using jsp:plugin

    Is there a way to specify classid (IE and netscape 6) and type (Netscape4.x)

              our applet is sensitive to the JRE version.
              <OBJECT classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" ......... >
              </OBJECT>

              Any help is appreciated.
              Thanks in advance,

    Yeah sorry. I started with just the java command and it crashed. So I was trying iterations of commands. I'm thinking that because it's an XSL file that has the html and xml format commands in it, which is then applied against (or called from) the xml data file (in the header) that it fails (with a can't render error).
    I tested it straight up in a jsp file and it returns properly. Any other ideas? Maybe not the best forum but I've always got good answers here. =)

  • Possible Bug: jsp:plugin (Oct. 11g release)

    I'm trying to set the mayscript="true" property of Applet using <jsp:plugin type="applet"..., however in editor it is okay (shows in the intellisense popup) however at compilation, flags this attribute as an error.
    Any ideas?

    Liya,
    Could you possibly test it with 903 -preview. Or else if you have a simple test case I can test it for you.
    There have lot of fixes between 1022 and JDev RC2 and 903. Since it does reproduce in JDev RC2
    I am quite positive that it would reproduce on a later version of OC4J.
    ( The OC4J in JDev RC2 is a much later version than 1022)
    thanks,

  • How to find JSP syntax Errors

    Dear All.
    I develop JSP in EP environment by NW Studio, I fond it is difficult to find JSP syntax Errors when I wrote the JSP, I ever view EP log, but the information is so general, it only told me "Error occurs during the compilation of java generated from the jsp" and so so, I can't find more detail information , could you tell me how can I find the syntax Errors quickly?

    Hi,
    The error should be somewhere in the log or trace file.
    Try default.trc in Visual Administrator (Log viewer) to look for more detail.
    Another possibility is to look for plugins that are compatible with NWDS and that can (pre)compile JSP's. Anyone....?
    In general is it is wise to keep your JSP's small, so use jsp:include (or page include) where possible. Also to avoid duplication of code. Indentation also helps to keep code readable.
    Good luck,
    Roelof

  • How to deploy a JSP with jsp:plugin with applet type?

    Hi,
    I am a new comer for JSP and when to try to a simple JSP with plugin for applet. Following is part of my JSP script:
    <jsp:plugin type="applet" code="DigitalClock" align="center" height="25" width="300"
    >
         <jsp:params>
              <jsp:param name="language" value="<%=request.getLocale().getLanguage()%>" />
              <jsp:param name="country" value="<%=request.getLocale().getCountry()%>" />
              <jsp:param name="bgcolor" value="FFFFFF" />
              <jsp:param name="fgcolor" value="CC0066" />
         </jsp:params>
              <jsp:fallback>
              <p>Unable to start plugin.</p>
         </jsp:fallback>
    </jsp:plugin>
    ===========
    And Java plugin tell me that can't find DigitalClock class. I want to ask how to deply this JSP using deploytool.
    Thanks,

    Hi
    It should be in such a way,
    The Jsp:param is similar to PARAM used in Applet.
    <jsp:plugin type="applet"
    code="MyApplet.class"
    width="475" height="350"
    <jsp:params>
    <jsp:param name = "PARAM1" value="VALUE1" />
    </jsp:params>
    </jsp:plugin>
    jsp:fallback Element
    It provides alternate text to browsers that do not Support OBJECT or EMBED. You can use this element in the same way as you provide alternate text in your applet.
    <jsp:fallback>
    <b> Error: This example requires java </b>
    </jsp:fallback>
    </jsp:plugin>
    I hope this will help you.

    javascript will not be executing on the server. You can rule that one out.
    Is your Applet being initialised correctly?
    Where have you got the classes for it? I think the applet doesn't need any kind of initialization, because it doesn't have any variables and all the process is made in the method called by onsubmit()
    The applet is composed only by one class and I'm totally sure that the class is placed in the correct place.

    I would say put in a couple more alerts - one before the call to the applet, one after.
    put some logging statements in your applet to see if it gets there.In the javascript, there are two alerts between the three calls to the applet. Where do you advise me to put more alerts?
    I don't understand what do you refer when you say "logging statements"
    I am going to test again the call to the applet in order to find some kind of code that can be invalid or that can make the function to "crash"

  • Expressions not evaluating properly in jsp:plugin tag

    Hi there, running OC4J as Oracle9iAS (1.0.2.2.1)
    In the JSP1.1 spec dynamic expressions in the jsp:plugin <param> tag are clearly specified as below:
    <jsp:params>
    [ <jsp:param name="parameterName" value="{parameterValue | <%= expression %>}" /> ]+ </jsp:params>
    Unfortunately, attempting this in OC4J, the expression is simply displayed as a static String, for example the following JSP source:
         <jsp:params>
              <jsp:param name="rootSubAssembly" value="<%=rootSubAssembly%>" />
         </jsp:params>
    Would output "<%=rootSubAssembly%>" as the parameter value, rather than the dynamic value specified in the JSP above.
    Any ideas? We'd like to benefit from using the plugin tag over object/applet if at all possible.

  • Can't get jsp:plugin to work with jb5

    I am trying to get a Swing applet compiled with JDK 1.3.1 to run on a jsp page using the <jsp:plugin> tag. At this stage it is a ridiculously simple applet (just some JLabels and JTextFields) but I can't get it to work. Here is the jsp code:
    <jsp:plugin type="applet" code="nz.astarte.ganttapplet.GanttApplet"
    codebase="./WEB-INF/classes" jreversion="1.3.1"
    width="400" height="175">
    <jsp:fallback>
    Plugin support could not be determined
    </jsp:fallback>
    </jsp:plugin>
    When I run it in the jb5 ide nothing shows up at all. OK, I figured the ide doesn't support the plugin, so leaving the ide running (which provides me with a web server) I go into IE (version 5) and enter the url to the page, which is http://localhost:8080/AppletCommunications/GanttApplet.jsp
    I get the page, and the gray box saying loading the applet but the plugin console tells me:
    load: class nz.astarte.ganttapplet.GanttApplet not found.
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://localhost:8080/AppletCommunications/WEB-INF/classes/nz/astarte/ganttapplet/GanttApplet.class
    Why not? Under the directory where the jsp page is located is the directory structure WEB-INF/classes/nz/astarte/ganttapplet and in that directory is a GanttApplet.class file.
    I cannot understand why it isn't found. Do applets work with the jb5 ide? Is there something blindingly obvious that I've missed?
    Thanks, Andrew

    I appear to have solved it, but it is not clear to me why.
    I created a jar file of the required classes, and placed it in the same directory as the jsp file. My jsp code then looked like:
    <jsp:plugin type="applet" code="nz.astarte.ganttapplet.GanttApplet"
    codebase="."
    archive="GanttApplet.jar"
    jreversion="1.3.1"
    width="400" height="175">
    <jsp:fallback>
    Plugin support could not be determined
    </jsp:fallback>
    </jsp:plugin>
    This works fine. However I would expect to be able to move the jar file to some other directory, so that the jar file and jsp files are separated. I spent hours trying to work out why it wouldn't work when I had the jar
    file in WEB-INF/classes (under the jsp file directory) and had codebase="WEB-INF/classes/". In the end I put the jar file into a directory I defined separately called wotnot and defined codebase="wotnot/"
    Now it works. However I still think I should be able to have the jar file anywhere, including WEB-INF/classes and would love for someone to tell me why not!
    Thanks, Andrew
