Jsp postback

We are running 5.0.3 .Net, and wish to integrate a program written in jsp running on Tomcat. The problem we are having is that the jsp page on post back breaks out of the portal and you lose the whole plumtree look and feel. Is there a way to integrate JSP based applications and successfully gateway them as we have done with our existing .Net development to date.
I know we can Iframe the jsp but we want to know if there is a more elegant solution because at some stage we will have to do a full integration of Plumtree, .net and third party apps written in JSP, ASP etc. Any help/documentation would be gratefully received.
Thanks,
Aggy

Since the data is entered on the client side and you need to process it on the server side, you have to send the data to another JSP...
For example, you can have a JavaScript function to validate your data and build a SQL update/insert/delete and then submit that SQL to a JSP in charge of executing it and returning control to the calling page.
When it returns, the page will be refreshed and your data updated.

  • How do I create linked LOVs in a JSP

    We are attempting to create a list of values (LOV) for a group of categories on a jsp page. We would like the LOV to be populated with the category names. Next to the category LOV we would like to have a link “get subcategories” that when clicked would return to the same jsp page, set the value of the LOV to the category selected, and populate a second LOV with sub-category names for the selected category.
    We have created an sql-only View Object (VO) for the categories and linked it to an sql-only VO for the subcategories (in a master-detail relationship) and added the VOs to an app module. We have tested the link between the two VOs with successful results.
    We would like to know how to create a linked pair of LOVs on a jsp page. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Les,
    If I understand correctly, you can do this fairly simply.
    First create datasources:
    <jbo:DataSource name="dsCategories" ...
    <jbo:DataSource name="dsSubCategories" ...
    <% // add a where clause to SubCategories based on the parameter "CategoryNumber"
    String categoryNumber = params.getParameter("CategoryNumber");
    // Make sure to default to something if the parameter is null or you'll get an error
    if (categoryNumber == null)
    categoryNumber = "1";
    dsSubCategories.getRowSet().setWhereClauseParam(0, categoryNumber);
    // execute the query on dsSubCategories to ensure that the where clause reflects on this page
    dsSubCategories.getRowSet().executeQuery();
    Create a form with your drop down lists.
    1. I would create a <form> that posts to the same page.
    2. Add a <jbo:FormEvent> tag with a custom event name like "getSubcategories".
    3. Create a LOV that isn't connected to the database:
    <jbo:InputSelect multiple="false" displaydatasource="dsCategories" displaydataitem="CategoryName" displayvaluedataitem="CategoryNumber" ></jbo:InputSelect>
    4. Create a second LOV that also isn't connected to a datasource. It would look like this:
    <jbo:InputSelect multiple="false" displaydatasource="dsSubCategories" displaydataitem="SubCategoryName" displayvaluedataitem="SubCategoryNumber" ></jbo:InputSelect>
    5. Add a submit button
    That should work. Some things to note:
    1. This probably won't track your previously selected options. I don't know if you can do that with this interface.
    2. I'd add some javascript to postback when a new list item is selected.
    Based on these points I would code the select list by hand like this:
    <select name="CategoryNumber" size="1" onchange="this.form.submit()">
    <% String curCatNumber="";
    String CatNumber = params.getParameter("CategoryNumber");
    if (CatNumber == null)
    CatNumber = "1";
    <jbo:RowsetIterate datasource="dsCategories" >
    <jbo:Row id="rowCategory" datasource="dsCategories" action="active" >
    <% curCatNumber = ((oracle.jbo.domain.Number)rowCategory.getAttribute("Category")).toString();%>
    <option value="<%=curParlimentId%>"
    <% if (CatNumber.equals(curCatNumber)) { %>selected<% } %>>
    <jbo:ShowValue datasource="dsCategories" dataitem="CategoryName" ></jbo:ShowValue>
    </option>
    </jbo:Row>
    </jbo:RowsetIterate>
    </select>
    The second would be similar.
    Hope this answered your question!

  • How to avoid @PostConstruct on page Faces beans during postback?

    Hello, we're using GlassFishV2/JSAS9.1 with Mojarra 1.2_04-b22-p05 for a large project, and experiencing performance issues on form-less JSF commands when used in conjonction with @PostConstruct annotations. I feel this is an architectural issue I'm not able to resolve though, so I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on whether I'm missing something, there is some known workaround or it's a known JSF problem?
    The scenario is as follows:
    * Page my.jsp references Faces Beans MyFB.java
    * MyFB has @PostContruct method, which execute expensive logic to initialize the data model before rendering phase
    * my.jsp has a <commandLink action="#{anotherFB.myCommand}">
    * anotherFB.myCommand executes some logic and nav to another.jsp
    Now what seems to happen is that when we click on the commandLink, JSF does a postback to the same URL, instantiates MyFB, calls @PostConstruct on MyFB, and then instantiate anotherFB to call myCommand on it and nav to another.jsp
    In this situation, the expensive @PostConstruct logic to prepare data for rendering on my.jsp is executed although it is totally useless to the use case and hurts site performance a lot.
    I tried to use immediate="true" attribute, but it doesn't seem to prevent the @PostConstruct...
    In the case of a JSF form commandButton on the same bean, I can see how that would be necessary, but for a commandLink to another bean, why is JSF calling @PostConstruct on the previous page beans??
    I seem to be able to workaround this problem doing an if (getFacesContext().getRenderKit().getResponseStateManager().isPostback(getFacesContext()) in our @PostConstruct method and then make sure all the getters are NPE-safe, but if the commandLink is in a common include file, I'd then have to do this in every single beans within my app, which is not reasonable IMHO.
    Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or even maybe worked around it somehow?
    I'm curious if I'm missing something or if this is a major JSF architectural issue...
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the suggestion.
    We used to do this in the past, but this yields a host of other issues including:
    * no control over when getters get called and in what order
    * getters can get called multiple times, so you have to implement some caching to avoid init re-execution and it can get complicated in large object models
    * if a getter implements logic and blows up in the rendering phase, part of the page may have already been flushed out and you can't recover with an error page
    etc.
    @PostConstruct is a great standard-based option to get a bean initialized early in the JSF lifecycle, but there's just this one issue with commandLink that's problematic... :(
    We're sometimes using Shale's prerender callback, which is not invoked on a postback, but I was hoping there was maybe a standard-based solution?

  • Drop Down list issues in jsp

    Hi,
    I am facing an issue with drop down list in jsp pages on page postback. Let me explain in detail. I have a client.jsp page which has a drop down list and a text box. The drop down list is populated from an Action class (lets say testAction.java). In the client action form class there is a validation which requires the user to enter some value in the text box.
    So here is the problem, when the client.jsp page loads, the drop down list is populated perfectly, but then the user clicks submit button without entering anything in the textbox, the page loads again with an error message ("Please enter some value in the textbox"). At this point the drop down list does not contain any value. Any ideas what could I do?
    I am posting the code here for individual pieces,
    Struts-config.xml_
    <action path="/client" type="com.myapp.struts.testAction" scope="session">
    <forward name="success" path="/createClient.jsp"/>
    </action>
    <action input="/createClient.jsp" name="ClientActionForm" path="/createClient" scope="session" type="com.myapp.struts.ClientAction">
    <set-property property="cancellable" value="true" />
    <forward name="success" path="/loginSuccessful.jsp"/>
    <forward name="cancel" path="/Welcome.do"/>
    </action>
    index.jsp_
    <h5><html:link action="/client" styleClass="purplelink">Create a new client</html:link></h5>
    testAction.java_
    public ActionForward execute(ActionMapping mapping, ActionForm form,
    HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
    throws Exception {
    ArrayList<String> arrList = new ArrayList<String>();
    arrList.add("sports");
    arrList.add("music");
    arrList.add("test 1");
    arrList.add("test2");
    request.setAttribute("mylist", arrList);
    return mapping.findForward(SUCCESS);
    createClient.jsp_
    <select name="droplist">
    <c:forEach var="itemName" items="${mylist}">
    <option><c:out value="${itemName}" /></option>
    </c:forEach>
    </select>
    <html:text property="clientName" />
    ClientActionForm_
    public ActionErrors validate(ActionMapping mapping, HttpServletRequest request)
    ActionErrors errors = new ActionErrors();
    if (getclientName() == null || getclientName().length() < 1) {
    errors.add("name", new ActionMessage("error.name.required"));
    return errors;
    Here is the process/page flow.
    index.jsp is the first page which is loaded.
    Link on index.jsp calls action="/client"
    This pulls mapping from struts-config and calls testAction.java
    This populates the arraylist and returns to the createClient.jsp page (mapping from struts-config.xml)
    Now createClient.jsp page has two fields (dropdown list and textfield=clientName) and a submit button
    if user clicks submit, clientActionForm is called and does not enter anything into clientName text field, error message is returned.
    At this point, the drop down list in createClient.jsp is not populated and is returned as empty, even though the scope=session in struts-config.xml
    Please provide some inputs on how can I handle this issue.
    Thanks
    Ashish

    I think one solution would be instead of putting the list in the request, but it in your ActionForm.
    Add a field to the ClientActionForm with getters and setters.
    Then change your action.
    ArrayList<String> arrList = new ArrayList<String>();
    arrList.add("sports");
    arrList.add("music");
    arrList.add("test 1");
    arrList.add("test2");
    ClientActionForm frm = (ClientActionForm)form;
    frm.setMyList(arrList);
    return mapping.findForward(SUCCESS);

  • Header -- backingFile, call a postBack life cycle from header

    Searching this group has found tips that didn't pan out in our tests. I'd like to re-ask and describe my need.
    Need: a login form in the header.jsp. No problem setting the action to be the URL of the header.jsp.
    Problem: header.jsp is called in the render lifecycle and the portlet's prerenders don't see the logged in state put into the session.
    Is there any solution for the need to put forms and actions in the header to call logic that gets called in the postBack lifecycle?
    Thanks to all, curt

    you can put portlets in the header. Just create your own shell.
    You may need to redirect after a successful login to pick up any user customizations.
    I believe there are quite a few examples of different portlets performing login functionality in the tutorial portal

  • URL changes on PostBack

    I have JSF page that loads from a popup. This PopUp attaches two parameters that the page load event uses to display the appropriate data.
    ex.
    /transactionDelete.jsp?trax=00001
    There is also a delete button on the page. When delete is hit actions are performed to delete the data. When the page posts back the parameters on the URL are not written out and this causes problems.
    I've found some ways to hack around this, but I would like the postback to be the original URL with the parameters.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • %sign in jsp input box

    Hi Gurus,
    This code was working fine. Then I added a common utility required and it does still run correctly but not when I enter a % sign
    for example if I enter G339% the system out displays G339"a small square box"oe=partno
    so it seems to transform the number and append other code after the number when calling the servlet.
    jsp:
    <input type="text" name="searchvalue" value=<%=searchvalue%>>
    servlet:
    String searchvalue = request.getParameter("searchvalue");
    System.out.println("in the search value is: " + searchvalue);Please help and could you please give some code in the reply. I tried encode URL and nothing seems to work. I tried escape character that did not seem to work either. Really going crazy on this one.
    Thank you !
    I got this half way to work
    I put this code on the javascript of the button:
    document.forms[0].searchvalue.value = escape(document.forms[0].searchvalue.value);but if the user hits enter it goes right to the servlet and I am trying to do this but it does not work:
    String searchvalue = request.getParameter(escape(("searchvalue"));I know this is java and I am trying to do javascript but I want to do something like what I have above...
    Thank you!

    You are encountering a "feature" of the browser.
    If there is only one text field on the page, and you hit the enter key, it will avoid running the onclick method of the submit button.
    Workaround solution: put another textfield on the page: even if it has a style="display:none" to hide it.
    That is sufficient for the browser to then recognise it needs to run the onclick when you hit enter.

    According to the release notes, for the JRCHelperSample to compile, you must set the target runtime for the project.
    To do this, either create a project from scratch that uses the Tomcat 5.5 target runtime, or go to the properties menu and ensure that the target runtime is set to the application server you will be using.

  • .How can I add data from one list to other in Jsp Page

    Hi..I have three multiple selection ListBox..I want to add the selected item from 2 list boxes to 3rd list box how can i do that..do i need to write javascript? If possible then suggest me some link where i can get help?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Chintan

    Yep, Javascript.
    Unless you want to post the data to the server and then rewrite the page (ie. jsp/servlets) then you are going to need to use a client side script to modify the page.
    Javascript. You need to get the onClick() event of one list box and get the item that was clicked. then you can rewrite the 3rd list box.
    If possible, try doing a search on google. Or do you want someone to hold your hand.

    Thanks in advance.HTTP is a request/response protocol. You can't do what you're suggesting without "pushing" what you type to all the other users. That's not the way HTTP works. Maybe an applet and servlet.

  • How to print new line in jsp page

    hi
    how to print new line in jsp page
    thanks

    \n - new line character is in java specific not HTML
    specific.Well, if the correct line separator sequence (by far not always \n) would be used, it does add a new line to the HTML output. Too bad that you don't want to see HTML but formatted text. The BR tag is a formatting element for the displayed text, not a line break in HTML. ;)

  • How to Get Portlet Namespace in a JSP attribute

    Hi All,
    The id of any component in a JSF application (with JSR168 portlets) takes the form
    'view'+'<portlet:namespace/>'+':'+'formname:componentidname';
    I need this id to be used for certain validations.
    Currently I am using it as below :-
    <h:intputText required="#{ ! empty param['viewns_7_CGAH47L000NAF0I04I42ND10P7_:form:login']}"/>
    Presently I have hardcoded the portlet namespace 'ns_7_CGAH47L000NAF0I04I42ND10P7_' by looking into the html source of the rendered page.
    Is there any way by which i can automatically get this portlet namespace within the param tag in the jsp.
    I know for a fact that within javascript tags, it can be used as <portlet:namespace/> as shown below :-
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function doSomething()
    buttonId= 'view' + '<portlet:namespace/>'+':'+'formName:buttonId';
    document.getElementById(buttonId).disabled = true;
    </script>
    Kindly treat this on high priority.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Darshan Shroff

    Perhaps so.
    I need to use it within param as below
    <h:inputText value="#{bean.userid}"
    required="#{!empty param['viewns_7_CGAH47L00GLRE0I0BCOUKS00I5_:form:login']}" />
    Here 'viewns_7_CGAH47L00GLRE0I0BCOUKS00I5_:form:login' is actually
    'view' + '<portlet:namespace/>'+':'+'formName:buttonId';
    I am just trying to check the presence of the client ID in the request paramameter map inorder to attain action dependent requiredness.
    Kindly tell me how i could access it within param.
    Thanks & Regards,
