JSP+SQL+Date Query

Hi all,
I am try to execute a query which restricts the results between certain dates. Now in the database the field is of type Short Date (MS Access DB).
I have a
String fromDate = "01/01/2004";
String toDate = "31/12/2004";
String sqlQuery = " SELECT *FROM Computer WHERE purchaseDate BETWEEN = "+fromDate+" AND "+toDate+";";
The code executes..... but does not return any results (But as you know it should, otherwise i wouldn't have posted this question)
Any Help??
Thanks

Would you rather use Date than String for your dates ? I had this problem once when I used String. Easily solved when I started to use Date or similar classes. Also localization would require you not to use String as the sequence of the month, date and year may change.

  • SQL date query problem with century/ year

    We have an oracle database with about 6 million records. There is a date field called Entered Date that ranges from 1985 to the present.
    The majority of these records were entered prior to Jan 1 2000.
    If I run a query like
    select count(*) from (tablename) where entered_date < '01-JAN-00' I get 0
    if I do
    select count(*) from (tablename) where entered_date < '31-DEC-99' I get 0
    BUT IF I DO
    select count(*) from (tablename) where entered_date < '01-JAN-00' I get 6 million records
    or
    select count(*) from TREASURY.ctrc where entrydate > '31-DEC-99' I get 6 million records
    I've tried the same queries using 4 digit years but get the same results; it thinks that 2000 is the less than 1999
    How do I get around this?
    thanks

    there are 6 million records on the table
    about two thirds have a date prior to Jan 1 , 2000How do you know that? From knowledge of the application, you may know that two thirds of them are supposed to have dates prior to 2000, but if
    SELECT  COUNT (*)
    FROM      TABLE_NAME
    WHERE      ENTRYDATE < TO_DATE ( '01-JAN-2000'
                           , 'DD-MON-YYYY'
    ;returns 0, that's pretty strong proof that none of them actually do.
    When I look at the dates , they display as 31-DEC-86Another example of why using 2-digit years is such a bad idea.
    I cant actually provide dump of this clients confidential dataSeriously; you can't provide one DUMP output? You've already said that it displays as 31-DEC-86, so even if the fact that 1 entry in the 6-million row table was done on December 31, 1986 was such a big secret, it's already out, and you won't be causing any more harm by showing the DUMP results.
    I ran the query with the same format as the date ie
    SELECT COUNT(*) FROM TREASURY.CTRC WHERE ENTRYDATE < TO_DATE ( '31-DEC-99'
    , 'DD-MON-YY'
    but same results
    if the column is defined as a DATE type, does Oracle make a distinction based on how the data displays, meaning does it think that 31-DEC-86 is different than 31-DEC-1986?No, all DATE columns have the same format. A DATE may be displayed one way of the other, but it is stored as neither.
    Do I need to convert all the data to a 4 digit year? You should always display dates with a 4-digit year.
    Run an update query that says if year >= 80 and <= 99 add 19 in front of the year, else add 20 in front of the yearLet's find out exactly what the problem is, first.
    Did you see Ascheffer's message? ^1^ It was dated just a couple of minutes before your last message, so you might not have noticed it. Run it to see what the actual 4-digit years are.
    If it shows, for example, that there are a lot of entrydates in the years 2080 to 2099, and you decide that all of those really should be 100 years earlier, then use ADD_MONTHS to correct them:
    UPDATE     table_name
    SET     entrydate = ADD_MONTHS ( entrydate
                               , -100 * 12
    WHERE   entrydate >= TO_DATE ( '01-JAN-2080'
                             , 'DD-MON-YYYY'
    AND     entrydate <  TO_DATE ( '01-JAN-2100'
                             , 'DD-MON-YYYY'

    ^1^ Obviously, you did see Ascheffer's message; I was still typing the message above when you posted another one.

  • JSP Data Query tag and case sensistivity

    Hello,
    When using BC4J Data Query tag in JSP apps how to make queries case INSENSITIVE? I undestand that string comparison in Oracle is case sensiteve and hence my dynamic query will be also. However, I would like to do something like
    select * from bla
    where upper(attribute) = upper(string) where the string is from the JSP query form entered by user.
    rade

    Use a standard INPUT tag combined with the DataValue tag. This will allow you to control the input tag while still getting the data from a BC4J attribute.

  • Prepared statement - setDate(index, sql.Date, Cal) Help!

    Hi everyone, I'm creating a form to query an Oracle table. I'm setting up the search criteria which includes a start and end date. (in this example I've just used the start date)
    I get all the search parameters into my JSP and I created the following Calendar objects:
    // Calendar creation
    Calendar startCal = Calendar.getInstance();
    startCal.set(start_year, start_month, start_day, start_hour, start_minute);
    Calendar endCal = Calendar.getInstance();
    endCal.set(end_year, end_month, end_day, end_hour, end_minute);
    //define a sql.Date value for start and end date
    java.sql.Date startDate = null;
    java.sql.Date endDate = null;I then create a string that contains my SQL statement:
    String sqlStmt = "select dateValue, value3 from someTable where dateValue >= ? and value2 = ?";In my Prepared Statement I pass in the following information:
    ps = c.prepareStatement(sqlStmt);
    ps.setDate(1, startDate, startCal);
    ps.setString(2, searchValue);My question is the following - I define the hour and minute in my Cal object - will that information get passed into my "startDate" sql.Date object? According to the API it should work (at least that's my understading of it):
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/sql/PreparedStatement.html#setDate(int,%20java.sql.Date,%20java.util.Calendar)
    My search does not blow up or report any errors but it never finds a match - even when I put in parameters that I know are a match.
    Any feedback is appreciated.

    I think I got it. my java.sql.Date can't be null.
    java.sql.Date startDate = null;
    java.sql.Date endDate = null;needs to be:
    java.util.Date startCalendarDate = startCal.getTime();
    java.util.Date endCalendarDate = endCal.getTime();
    java.sql.Date startDate = new java.sql.Date(startCalendarDate.getTime());
    java.sql.Date endDate = new java.sql.Date(endCalendarDate.getTime());

  • Jsp and dates

    Hello to everybody. I need help from someone.
    I have a jsp page which selects some appointments from a database (MS Access is the driver), which belong to one day. So the query is:
    SELECT appointment.* FROM [day] INNER JOIN appointment ON day.idgiorno = appointment.id_giorno WHERE day.giorno = ?; pstmt.setDate(1, GIORNO);
    My question is the following: I can select the appointment of the curent day, but not of the other days. How can I do this?
    How can I create a new day that is not "today"?. I must say that giorno and GIORNO are Date types. Hello and thanks

    Well what sort of user interface do you have for this query?
    The related classes that you should probably read up on as well are
    - java.util.Calendar
    - java.text.SimpleDateFormat.
    The Calendar class is the standard way of manipulating dates (setHour, setYear etc in java.util.Date are deprecated)
    SImpleDateFormat converts between Dates and Strings.
    // Calendar example
    // get an appropriate calendar, populated with current date/time
    Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
    // clear date/time if necessary
    cal.clear();
    // specific set methods
    cal.set(Calendar.YEAR, 2006);
    cal.set(Calendar.MONTH, Calendar.MARCH);
    // short cut setter method
    cal.set(year, month, date);
    Date d = cal.getTime();
    java.sql.Date sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(d.getTime());or using SimpleDateFormat
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
    Date d= sdf.parse("21/11/2006");
    java.sql.Date sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(d.getTime());

  • Using a SQL data source and XML data source in the same template

    I am trying to develop a template for the Request for Quote report generated in Apps 11.5.10. I have loaded the data from the XML output into the template, but I am missing one field - I need the org_id from the po_headers table. Is it possible to use a sql data source (i.e., "select org_id from po_headers_all where po_header_id = [insert header_id from xml data]...") in addition to the xml data source to populate the template at runtime? When you use the Insert > SQL functionality is it static at the time the template is created, or does it call to the database at runtime? I've looked through all the docs I could find, but this isn't clear.
    Thanks for any help or suggestions you may have.
    Rhonda

    Hi Pablo
    Thats a tough one ... if you go custom with a data template you will at least get support on the data template functionality ie you have a problem when you try and build one. You will not get support on the query inside the data template as you might have gotten with the Oracle Report, well you could at least log a bug against development for a bad query.
    Eventually that Oracle Report will be converted by development anyway, theres an R12 project going on right now to switch the shipped OReports to data templates. AT this point you'll be fully supported again but:
    1. You have to have R12 and
    2. You'll need to wait for the patch
    On reflection, if you are confident enough in the query then Oracle will support you on its implementation within a data template. Going forward you may be able to swap out your DT and out in the Oracle one without too much effort.

  • Oracle SQL Select query takes long time than expected.

    Hi,
    I am facing a problem in SQL select query statement. There is a long time taken in select query from the Database.
    The query is as follows.
    select /*+rule */ f1.id,f1.fdn,p1.attr_name,p1.attr_value from fdnmappingtable f1,parametertable p1 where p1.id = f1.id and ((f1.object_type ='ne_sub_type.780' )) and ( (f1.id in(select id from fdnmappingtable where fdn like '0=#1#/14=#S0058-3#/17=#S0058-3#/18=#1#/780=#5#%')))order by f1.id asc
    This query is taking more than 4 seconds to get the results in a system where the DB is running for more than 1 month.
    The same query is taking very few milliseconds (50-100ms) in a system where the DB is freshly installed and the data in the tables are same in both the systems.
    Kindly advice what is going wrong??

    dd|dddI do not see where the issue is. The data can be successfully retrieved, it is present in the database.
    Could you try putting in the sqlite3_close() call and see if you still get the error?
    Did you remove the __db.* files from the SourceDB_912_1.db-journal directory?
    Did you use PRAGMA synchronous, and if so, what is the value you set?
    If this is still an issue for you, please describe in more detail the exact steps needed to get this reproduced and provide a simple stand-alone test case program that reproduces it.

  • Sql select query problem

    hi friends,
    i've a view called "risk_efforts" with fields user_id,user_name,wknd_dt,week_day,prod_efforts,unprod_efforts.
    Name Type
    ROW_ID NUMBER
    USER_ID VARCHAR2(14)
    USER_NAME VARCHAR2(50)
    WKND_DT VARCHAR2(8)
    WEEK_DAY VARCHAR2(250)
    PROD_EFFORTS NUMBER
    UNPROD_EFFORTS NUMBER
    data is like this:
    when there is some data in prod_efforts, unprod_efforts will be null
    when there is some data in unprod_efforts, prod_efforts will be null
    for example:
    USER_ID     USER_NAME     WKND_DT     WEEK_DAY     PROD_EFFORTS     UNPROD_EFFORTS
    G666999     GTest     20100403     TUE     null 3
    G666999     GTest     20100403     TUE     14     null
    now i want to combine these 2 rows into 1 row i.e o/p should be like this
    USER_ID     USER_NAME     WKND_DT     WEEK_DAY     PROD_EFFORTS     UNPROD_EFFORTS
    G666999     GTest     20100403     TUE     14 3
    i've tried all combinations but couldn't get the query. Please help me with the exact SQL select query.
    thanks,

    Welcome to the forum.
    First read this:
    Urgency in online postings
    Secondly, it's always helpful to provide the following:
    1. Oracle version (SELECT * FROM V$VERSION)
    2. Sample data in the form of CREATE / INSERT statements.
    3. Expected output
    4. Explanation of expected output (A.K.A. "business logic")
    5. Use \ tags for #2 and #3. See FAQ (Link on top right side) for details.
    You have provided #3 and #4. However with no usable form of sample data forum members will often not respond as quickly as they could if you provided #2.
    I'm just wagering a guess here but what about this:SELECT ROW_ID
    , USER_ID
    , WKND_DT
    , WEEK_DAY
    , MAX(PROD_EFFORTS) AS PROD_EFFORTS
    , MAX(UNPROD_EFFORTS) AS UNPROD_EFFORTS
    FROM RISK_EFFORTS
    GROUP BY ROW_ID

  • Sql server query

    sql server query to rearrange the rows after inserting the rows in a table

    You want to re-arrange the data physically?!!! Why? I believe its something impossible other than having a clustered key(there could be some strange ways of doing it) and a thing that should not worry about. Always there is a ORDER BY CLAUSE to order your
    data while retrieving

  • Convert java.sql.Date to oracle.jbo.domain.Date in oaf

    Hi,
    Need to dafault NeedBydate(i get in from query as below) to a messagelovinput and make it read only.
    i am facing some issue in converting from java.sql.Date to oracle.jbo.domain.Date.
    unable to figure out the problem.
    below is the sample code im trying to use.
    PreparedStatement ps=pageContext.createPreparedStatement("select sysdate from dual");
    ResultSet rs=ps.executeQuery();
    if (rs!=null && ps.next()
    java.sql.Date sqlDate= rs.getDate(1);
    oracle.jbo.domain.Date oracleDate = new oracle.jbo.domain.Date(sqlDate.getTime());
    vorow.setAttribute("Datevalue",oracleDate);
    this is my assumption : to set to UI i need date in format dd-Mon-yyyy.(am i correct? as to get that format i tried to use simple date format class but no use)
    when i tried to use simple date format :unpaseable date exception was raised.
    please guide.

    Hi,
    Why are you using this code???
    PreparedStatement ps=pageContext.createPreparedStatement("select sysdate from dual");
    ResultSet rs=ps.executeQuery();
    if (rs!=null && ps.next()
    java.sql.Date sqlDate= rs.getDate(1);
    oracle.jbo.domain.Date oracleDate = new oracle.jbo.domain.Date(sqlDate.getTime());
    you can get sysdate using this and then set it
    oracle.jbo.domain.Date currentDate = am.getOADBTransaction().getCurrentUserDate();
    java.text.SimpleDateFormat displayDateFormat = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat ("yyyy-MM-dd");
    String DateForm = displayDateFormat.format(currentDate.dateValue());
    oracle.jbo.domain.Date dateset = new oracle.jbo.domain.Date(DateForm);
    and then set the attribute
    vorow.setAttribute("Datevalue",dateset);
    Thanks,
    Gaurav

  • Help with SQL Date

    Hi

    Thanks for your help

    Hi
    How can I convert a string in 'YYYYMMDD' format to
    SQL date (in the format 'YYYYMMDD' and also 'YYYYMMDD
    HH24:MI:SS) to use in my SQL-query (for Oracle
    Database)
    Thanks for your help
    Praveen PadalaI've done quite a few dates from Java to an Oracle DB. I like to use the SimpleDateFormat class in the java.text packadge.
    import java.text.*; //Use this import
    //In your class
    SimpleDateFormat myDateFormatter = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yyyy", new Locale("en","US"));
    //The .format method returns a string. With this format string it can be included in an SQL command
    myDateFormatter.format(myDate);
    You can also use a SimpleDateFormat object with the format of your other dates to get a Date object that can be given to the SimpleDateFormat object set up to format in Oracle compatable form.
    myDate is an object of type Date.
    Hope this helps!
    Kevin.
