  • Examination system using JSP/SErvlet and MySQL

    Hi
    I am new to JSP /servlet.
    I am designing online examination system using JSP/Servlet and MySQL ,where multiple choice questions would be selected randomly from the database. After completion of the examination user gets the results ,also the results would be stored in the database for the future reference.
    Can anyone guide me for this? If possible give me the code for similar type of application.
    Thanks

    Sounds like you want someone else to do your homework for you, did you not read this:
    "This forum works so much better when you try to program the code yourself, then let us know where it doesn't work. Otherwise you learn very little, and we work a whole lot."
    and this
    "If you want free code, have you tried searching Google for it? You may want to consider looking for survey software. It will give you the question/answer capabilities then all you have to do is find a way to grade the survey (if you will)...
    If you are using Tomcat as your server, which you probably are, there is a jdbc tutorial included in the documentation, that is the fastest way to set up your database.
    As for your random selection, have a look at Math.random(), this is one way to generate random numbers, you will need an algorithm to convert this value (between 0.0 and 1.0) into a form that can be used to select information from your database.

    Hi,
    i think you have got this sample application from Mastering Jakarta Struts book.
    Try the following changes, you can escape from this exception:
    1) In the employeelist.jsp, change the name attribute to "USER instead of "employees" as follows
    <logic:iterate id="employee" name="USER">
    and also <logic:present name="USER"> </logic:present> before and after the iterate tags.
    2)In the EmployeeList Action.java,add the following in the excute method...
              EmployeesActionMapping employeesMapping =
                   (EmployeesActionMapping)mapping;
                   if ( employeesMapping.isLoginRequired() ) {
                        HttpSession session = request.getSession();
                             if ( session.getAttribute("USER") == null ) {
                                  System.out.println("session.getAttribute is NULL");
                                  target = "login";
                             ActionErrors errors = new ActionErrors();
                             errors.add(ActionErrors.GLOBAL_ERROR,
                             new ActionError("errors.login.required"));
                             if (!errors.empty()) {
                             saveErrors(request, errors);
                        }else{
                   session.setAttribute("USER",getEmployees());

  • Adf-Struts/JSP/BC4J- and setting date fields from jsp

    Hi,
    I'm working with the new ADF Frameworks (JDev 9.0.5.1) and ran into some questions regarding exception handling using BC4J, Struts and JSPs.
    I have a DATE column in database and an entity and VO with a datefield with type oracle.jbo.domain.Date.
    My JSP shows a textfield and the user should enter a valid date. Everything fine, until date is of wrong format or contains illegal characters...
    Problem:
    ADF tries to do a setAttribute on the datefield in VO row which expects a parameter with type oracle.jbo.domain.Date. When the user entered e.g. "NiceWeather" as date, I get an IIlegalArgumentException while converting to the correct Date format. This exception isn't thrown by bc4j as AttrValException and therefore my JSP renders a global error instead of a message directly behind the date field.
    I tried to validate the datefield in my DataForm and in my Action in the validateModelUpdates() method, but with no fitting solution.
    Any ideas how to validate a datefield with adf/struts/jsp/bc4j?
    Thanks for your help!
    Torsten.

    Torsen - In the first instance I'd recommed that you try and handle it declaritively using the Struts Validator Framework . See http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/howtos/10g/StrutsValidator/struts_validator_howto.html
    There is a section in there on how to use the validator with ADF databound pages and you can check the format the user enters via generated JavaScript.
    Also check out the matching sample project:
    http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/products/jdev/10g/ADFandStrutsValidator.zip - this has a data field check on it as well

  • Unable to connect JSP and MySQL

    Hi, I am new to this forum
    I've started developing web pages using JSP
    I've the problem connecting JSP and MySQL database. I've created the page that retrive records from mysql table. But the connection fail to access to database it gives me this error:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Exception in JSP: /retreive_book.jsp:15
    The code is:
    12: <%
    13: //Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
    14: Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");
    15: connection = DriverManager.getConnection(connectionURL,"","");
    16: statement = connection.createStatement();
    17: rs = statement.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM books_detail");
    18: %>
    And the connectionURL parameter has this value:

  • File Upload using struts and jsp

    Hi,
    Anybody have sample coding for uploading files into the database using struts and jsp.
    Thanking you in advance for providing the sample coding.
    Veena

    Hi Veena,
    In Strutsconfig.xml you have to configure data sources like this
    **************strutsconfig.xml******
    <data-sources>
    <data-source
    type="org.apache.common.dbcp.BasicDataSource">
    <set-property property="driverClassName"
    vlaue="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"/>
    <set-property property="url" vlaue="jdbcracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID =ORCL)))"/>
    <!-- <set-property property="url"
    vlaue="jdbcracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:ORCL"/>-->
    <set-property property="username"
    vlaue="scott"/>
    <set-property property="password"
    vlaue="tiger"/>
    </data-source>
    </data-sources>
    Now here is how to get data source
    public class LookupAction extends Action
    public Double getQuote(String symbol,
    HttpServletRequest request)
    throws Exception
    Double price=null;
    Connection conn=null;
    Statement stmt=null;
    ResultSet rs=null;
    DataSource dataSource=null;
    try
    dataSource = getDataSource(request);
    conn= dataSource.getConnection();
    stmt= conn.createStatement();
    rs= stmt.executeQuery("select * from stocks where" + "symbol='" + symbol +"'");
    if (rs.next())
    =======================
    After you can use the coding what I posted earlier.
    For that you need to create a table with attachment as a CLOB col.
    then with prepared statement I am setting value .
    Plz try your self every thing ok you can get that.
    all the best
    bye
    sudheen

  • PleaseHelp on jsp and Mysql connectivity and a lot of exception errors

    Hi,
    I am Trying to connect a JSP page with Mysql database. I am having a lot of probelms. After having a lot of problems in connecting the JSp with Mysql. Intilally it was giving me the exception error that " NO appropriate driver was found. After modifying the URl it was fine. Now It is giving the Following errors.
    servlet.ServletException: Communication link failure: java.io.IOException, underlying cause: Unexpected end of input stream ** BEGIN NESTED EXCEPTION ** java.io.IOException MESSAGE: Unexpected end of input stream
    In a window before loading the Explorer page it is giving the following error that The port 8081 is already in use and i should expand to other ports. Noraml JSP Files which used to work before are also not working .
    Internal Tomcat JWSDP is alos not working. If i try to start the server it says that port 8081 is already in USe . A java.net.connection exception is also occuring. The normal JSP files are also not working. What is Happening. I am also giving the code i have writted. PLease tellme why so many exception errors are occuring.
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost:8081/mis_project", "root", " ");
    Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("Select study_semester FROM Semester");
    while(rs.next()) {
    %>
    <option value="<%= rs.getString("Study_Semester") %>">
    </option>
    <% }
    if(rs!=null) rs.close();
    if(stmt!=null) stmt.close();
    if(con!=null) con.close();
    I am trying to connect to Mysql and automatocally populate a field in a Form in later JSp pages i intend to record the data entered in these fields into other tables.

    <%
    Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/myDB?user=username&password=mypass");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(java.sql.ResultSet.TYPE_FORWARD_ONLY, java.sql.ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
    String cat = "";
              try{
              cat = request.getParameter("category");
              }catch(NullPointerException npe){}
              ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT id,fullname FROM users WHERE category LIKE '%motor%' AND subcategory like '%"+cat+"%'");
         %>
    This piece gets a category parameter from a form post and uses it to search for a specific category in a database table. I think maybe u need to download JConnector from mysql site and unzip it to the classes folder of your WEB-INF in Tomcat server...... i hope this helps a bit

  • How can I stop the execution on a JSP page and start it again

    Hi
    I am making a program that simulates how to manage transactions when accessing a database by using locks. I have run into a problem and I hope someone has the time to help me.
    When a user does an update the transaction commits and releases its locks when the program executes
    <%stmt.executeUpdate("commit!"); %>
    I need to put a break in to stop the program executing this statement, to illustrate the lock is set correctly.
    I have tried to put in an alert box but this does not prevent the rest of the java code being executed.
    I have tried to use prompt boxes, JavaScript functions, but these functions cannot have any java code in them.
    I have tried using the java.swing JOptionPane boxes but this didn?t work either
    I have tried to get input from the user but I don?t know how to retrieve this data on the same page. (As far as I know you have to use submit and even refresh the page or retrieve it on the next page).
    Does anyone know how I can stop the execution on a JSP page and start it again (on same page)
    Mette

    I already have another client (Tomcat jsp application) running and it throws a SQLException correctly when I dont put in a commit=true statement and don't close the database connection.
    But the problem is how to get the code above to stop to illustrate I have set this lock.
    I have tried to use the JOptionPane but because my program is running in a web browser I cannot use the JOptionPane dialog box.
    I have tired using an alert box but it executes the commit statement before the alert box is dispayed. So this does not work
    While (i < 2)
    if( i==1)
    %>alert(The transactions commits when you press Ok); <% //what it to stop execution here
    else
    stmt.executeUpdate(commit);
    I am not using threads so I cannot use the sleep function.
    I am using mysql and have already configured it to detect deadlocks and how long to wait for locks.
    Thanks for your help

  • Struts and euro symbol

    Hi there,
    I am facing the following problem.
    I am working in a project with Struts.
    If I write in any of the text input within a jsp the euro symbol, I get one of the others input text (hidden) as null in the Action (it is the first text input).
    If I include
    <%@page language="java" pageEncoding="utf8" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF8"%>
    at the top of the jsp file and
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=UTF-8"/>
    in the html head every thing is ok but I get a strange symbol "&#130;" instead "".
    Anyhelp would be appreciate.
    Regards,
    Sergio

    Thank you, but it does not work.
    I have tried with ISO-8859-15 instead of UTF-8. Now, I am getting an ?.

  • Non-ascii, jsp-struts, not reciveing the correct value in the server

    Hi,
    I am developing JSP-Struts based application using tomcat server. In JSP struts form, when I put nonascii charater in the text field or text area, on the server side I recived twice of that non-ascii character..
    for example, in the text field I entered following string:
    ------> This is text in tex field &#131;
    On the server side, I get the following:
    ------> This is text in tex field &#131;&#131;
    Please notice, twice non ascii character.. :(
    I don't know how to resolve this.. Any help will be greatly appricated..
    Thanks,
    Ajay

    I changed the <form> in the jsp to div and its working fine. I do not need to have comments in JavaScript funcion() anymore. I don't know why that made the difference though? According to:
    http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_form.asp
    The <form> tag is used to create an HTML form for user input.
    The <form> element can contain one or more of the following form elements:
    <input>
    <textarea>
    <button>
    <select>
    <option>
    <optgroup>
    <fieldset>
    <label>
    An HTML form is used to pass data to a server.
    I do have <button> and also send the data - the value of checkboxes - to server. So I think it should also work with <form>.
    Please let me know if you have any idea. Thanks.
