JSP  - Tomcat Setting/Configuration

Hi, guys..
I m using Tomcat as the sever environment for running JSP... Normally my JSP files are stored in Tomcat webapp ROOT folder and work well...
However, this time I need to run some JSP files which are NOT in ROOT folder but other directories (I CANNOT move them to ROOT folder also)... In order to make these JSP pages functional, how do I configure the Tomcat setting? Thanks a lot!
SD

Well
AS they have said, the ROOT is not for putting your files.
You should know the directory structure of the web-application. But to place your application anywhere in the hard disk and have tomcat load it, its context needs to be included in the server.xml file (located in the conf dir. under $TOMCAT_HOME )

  • How WML and JSP can be configured in Tomcat 4.0 just as HTML and JSP

    hello all of my friends!
    Currently i am working on wap development but i cant find any thing to run my application, i am using Tomcat 4.0 can u plx help me and tell me how can i run Wml in tomcat( what configurations are required?) the application will work just as html-------JSP-Webserver.......ThankYou.

    You can work just like you did with html, but replace your content with wml-tags. I usually check for the accept-header in the http-reqest, to separate wap-users from web-useres:
    if(request.getHeader("accept").indexOf("text/vnd.wap.wml")>=0){
       response.setContentType("text/vnd.wap.wml");
    <xml version=1.0 DOCTYPE .........>
    <wml>
       <card ..>
    </wml>Also, your webserver must support this mimetype. Tomcat 4 has that, but to be sure, check in server.xml, it holds a long list of mime-associations.
    good luck

  • Unable to set configured property "/Initial.initialServices"

    Hi All,
    I am getting following error-
    05:21:52,006 INFO  [STDOUT] Unable to set configured property "/Initial.initialServices" atg.nucleus.ConfigurationException: Unable to resolve component /com/progiweb/fbconnect/pipeline/FacebookAuthStatusServlet

    05:21:52,064 INFO  [STDOUT] Unable to set configured property "/Initial.initialServices" atg.nucleus.ConfigurationException: Unable to resolve component /com/progiweb/fbconnect/pipeline/FacebookProfileRequestServlet
    I have checked the config path of both components and the structure of servlet is as below-
    src/com/progiweb/fbconnect/pipeline/FacebookAuthStatusServlet.java  and  src/com/progiweb/fbconnect/pipeline/FacebookProfileRequestServlet.java.java
    And for the properties files I have created them under the path- config/atg/dynamo/servlet/dafpipeline  and  config/atg/dynamo/servlet/pipeline
    Inside these I am keeping the FacebookAuthStatusServlet.properties and FacebookProfileRequestServlet.properties files
    The path of Initial.properties is as below- config/atg/dynamo/servlet/Initial.properties
    The content of Initial.properties is -
    initialServices+=\
      /atg/dynamo/servlet/dafpipeline/FacebookAuthStatusServlet,\
      /atg/dynamo/servlet/dafpipeline/FacebookProfileRequestServlet
    Should I need to keep the both pipeline- dafpipeline and pipeline or only one of them?
    And my pipeline structure is correct or not?
    How to resolve the above error?
    Please help regarding this!
    Regards,
    Prateek

    The content of config/atg/dynamo/servlet/dafpipeline/FacebookAuthStatusServlet.properties is as below-
    $class=com.progiweb.fbconnect.pipeline.FacebookAuthStatusServlet
    $scope=global
    serviceInfo=This servlet handle facebook redirection if it's a new user.
    insertAfterServlet=/atg/dynamo/servlet/dafpipeline/FacebookProfileRequestServlet
    redirect=true
    redirectURI=register.jsp

    loggingDebug=false
    And the content of config/atg/dynamo/servlet/pipeline/FacebookAuthStatusServlet.properties is as below-
    $class=com.progiweb.fbconnect.pipeline.FacebookAuthStatusServlet
    $scope=global
    serviceInfo=This servlet handle facebook redirection if it's a new user.
    insertAfterServlet=/atg/dynamo/servlet/pipeline/FacebookProfileRequestServlet
    redirect=true
    redirectURI=register.jsp
    profileUpdater=/fbconnect/userprofiling/FacebookProfileUpdater
    bypassExtensions=.css,.gif,.jpg,.swf
    loggingDebug=false
    I think this will clear the confusion.

  • Catching jsp/tomcat/java SQL error

    I have been trying to get the sample code to work from an old book. I was finally able to get it to run under tomcat 4.1.31 but there is one bug I just cannot figure out how to handle. I am a beginner to Java/JSP/Tomcat and have about 16+ hours invested in this problem so far.
    The delFruit.jsp calls methods from FruitConnect.java.
    I found that if the fruit chosen for deletion was not involved in a referential integrity link to a FruitMonth file the code works fine. But if it is linked the delFruit.jsp just displays a blank screen and nothing is deleted. It is fine for it not to be deleted but I cannot find anyway to handle it. I tried to add the checkFruitForSale bandaid below but it causes me a blank screen as well.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    It would be great if I could just see what is happening when FruitConnect is processing code. I get no errors, just a blank screen. I'm going to try using NetBeans and their debugger next.
    Here is delFruit:
    <%@ page import="java.sql.*" %>
    <jsp:include page="adminHeader.html" flush="true" />
    <jsp:useBean id="fruitConnect" class="fruit1.FruitConnect" />

    //Build the list of fruits to delete

         fruitConnect.dbConnect();
         for (int i = 0; i < len; i++) {

    First thing to check would be the Tomcat log file. Most likely there is an error message printed there:
    Look in [TOMCAT]/logs for any files modified recently. Open it, and you should find some hints as to your error.
    It would be great if I could just see what is happening when
    FruitConnect is processing code.For that sort of thing, you want to use a logger. Either Log4J or the standard Java1.4 logger would help. Basically configure it to log statements to file as your program runs.
    I get no errors, just a blank screenThat could indicate that the page ran enough to fill up the page buffer, and then failed. When you view source, do you see anything on the page at all?

  • How to combinate JSP+Tomcat+mysql??

    Hi,guys. My question is as the above subject.
    I have installed JDK, Tomcat, mysql, and my OS is WinXP, I am trying to develop a JSP site in my computer.
    For JDK, the commands javac, java, ...... work OK;
    For Tomcat, http://localhost:8080 works OK, meaning the cat page appears.
    For mysql, I can login, and sql statements work OK;
    And I download mysql-connector-java-3.1.8a.
    What I should do further to combinate JSP+Tomcat+mysql, so my JSP site can work? Any advice?
    I need help.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks,duffymo!
    As you said, I am learning more about those things.
    Actually I am trying to open a JSP webpage to show the connection JSP+Tomcat+mysql works OK.
    I copied the mysql-connector-java-3.1.8-bin.jar to ...Tomcat 5.0\common\lib,
    created a datebase, named test in MySQL, and wrote a JSP as the below:
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=gb2312" %>
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <%@ page import="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver" %>
    <%@ page import="java.sql.*" %>
    <%
    //driver
    String driverName="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver";
    //username
    String userName="test";
    //code
    String userPasswd="123";
    //database
    String dbName="test";
    //table name
    String tableName="mytab";
    //connection string
    String url="jdbc:mysql://localhost/"+dbName+"?user="+userName+"&password="+userPasswd;
    Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
    Connection connection=DriverManager.getConnection(url);
    Statement statement = connection.createStatement();
    String sql="SELECT * FROM "+tableName;
    ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery(sql);
    ResultSetMetaData rmeta = rs.getMetaData();
    int numColumns=rmeta.getColumnCount();
    // output
    out.print("id");
    out.print("|");
    out.print("num");
    out.print("<br>");
    while(rs.next()) {
    out.print(rs.getString(1)+" ");
    out.print("|");
    out.print(rs.getString(2));
    out.print("<br>");
    out.print("<br>");
    out.print("successful!");
    rs.close();
    statement.close();
    connection.close();
    %>
    How can I test the connection JSP+Tomcat+mysql works OK?
    Thanks again!

  • How to do Regional Setting Configuration in RDP session ( Eg Date Format, Currency, Decimal Seperator etc)

    Hi All,
    I am new to Windows Server 2008 R2 administration.
    I would like to know is there a way to  do Regional Setting Configuration in RDP session. i.e Date Format, Currency, Decimal Separator etc are based on users local machine.
    Eg If a user from UK logs in he should see date format as DD/MM/YY and if user from US logs in he should date format as MM/DD/YY.
    We are currently using citrix and we are managing this using logon script that runs based on citrix published application name.
    Is there any way we can achieve the same in RDP ?
    Thanks in Advance.

  • How to set "Configuration Variant" for a sales order item using function

    Hello All,
    I use function module 'SD_SALES_DOCU_MAINTAIN'  to create Customer Indep. Requirements but how to set "Configuration Variant" for a sales order item.
    Is their any idea or sample code?

    Hi Zhijun zhang,

    A variant is simply an SAP report where the parameters for running the report have been set by the user and then saved with unique name. This allows future retrieval and execution of the report faster without reentering the parameters. As a convention the variant name should start with with the digits 50 so searchs for LHU variants is easier and quicker.

  • Combining result states from UI (VC) and CO "Set Configuration" tab

    Dear collegues,
    it seems that one can either use result states defined in Visual Composer end points or defined on CO level in "Set configuration" tab but cannot combine them within an GP action.
    Has anybody of you tried to implement it together?
    The reason is that I would like to strictly decouple UI and process layer - to be able to run UIs without GP process. So I don't want to have eg. "Terminate process" button in VC UI, but still want to provide this termination on processl level.
    Thank you for any hint

    Hi
    For Tomcat 3.x you need to use one of the following options:
    (Note: this is with JBoss/Tomcat OR JBoss/Jetty)
    Place you .war files in the following location:
    C:\jboss-3.0.3\server\default\deploy and the app is automatically available.
    If my app's name is DavidOnline.war, when deployed, I can access it at
    http://localhost:8080/DavidOnline..
    OR
    Copy your entire development directory to the deploy direction above, RENAME your
    directory from say C:\JspApps to C:\JspApps.war and you can work from that location and see your changes immeadiatly.
    There is a file called jboss-service.xml that has some config options, also for the Tomcat bundle there is a file named tomcat-service.xml that has the standard server.xml section.. I suggest you check out the JBoss website, free docs and forums.. http://www.jboss.org.
    Thanks, Hope this helps.

  • BEAN ITERATION IS THIS A BUG in JSP /TOMCAT?

    Hi,
    I am new to JSP but I cant understand why I am getting this problem. I am trying simply to loop thro' an array of beans and print out their value.
    A code sample is below:
    <%@ page import="subscription.*" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="event" class="subscription.EventBean"/>
    <%
    EventBean[] events = (EventBean[]) request.getAttribute("events");
    <%for (int i=0;i< events.length;i++) {
    event= events;
    %>
    <b>bean is</b><jsp:getProperty name="event" property="id" /> </b>
    <%}%>
    All I get is a list of event ids at 0 as opposed the the id values. It seems to not be referencing the new bean.
    If I change the jsp;getProperty to <%=event.getId()%> the correct ids are retrieved. I am using Tomcat 4.1.
    I can only think this is user error, as I have not found any similar listings
    Help would be welcomed!
    Emma.

    Hi,
    Thankyou for trying to help. Unfortuanately you solution does not work as
    you are assiging an object (EventBean) to an array of objects (EventBean).
    I can help thinking problem I am getting is because somehow when you do a
    <jsp:useBean> to instantiate a bean you can reassign it later on in a scriplet, which is what I am doing. Why you cant is not something I understand.
    Maybe it would help if I explained what I want to do. I am trying to get an array of beans from one jsp page and print them out in another.
    so my thoughts were (and ironically the text book I am using does exactly this)
    //instantiate an EventBean using
    <jsp:useBean id="event" class="subscription.EventBean"/>
    //get the attributes (they are attributs cos I am dispatching servlet to //jsp page)
    <% EventBean[] events = (EventBean[]) request.getAttribute("events"); %>
    //This now gives me the array of eventbeans I want to pring out and //rather than do it all in a scriplet try to use jsp tags which is what //all the bks say you should do.
    //so I iterate thro' array and assign my EventBean object that I //instantiated using the jsp:useBean
    <%
    for (int i=0;i< events.length;i++) {
    event= events;
    %>
    //now I try to print out a property (id in this instance)...
    <jsp:getProperty name="event" property="id" />
    <% } %>
    but IT DOES NOT WORK!! I have to go <%=event.getId() %>
    my bean is dead simple and works if I am doing simple stuff like setting and getting attributes on a single bean.
    Maybe I a not getting scoping in JSP , it is not that clear,like normal

  • Using JSP to set form data and automatically submit

    I am using JSP to extract the authentication details form the header, and then set these values and automatically submit them them to a javascript cookie function. I can extract the information, but setting and submitting to javascript seems to be a problem. I don't want to modify the original code because that may change, and if it does change, they can just copy the jsp block to the new page. Plus there may be more pages where I will need to do the same. Any suggestions?

    I am making this a JSP and hosting it in Tomcat since I already have the authentication extracted and base64 decoded with this at the top:
    <%@page language="java"%>
    <%@ page import="com.Ostermiller.util.Base64 " %>
    <%
    String auth = request.getHeader("Authorization");
         auth = auth.substring(auth.indexOf(" "));
         String decoded = new String(Base64.decode(auth));
         int i = decoded.indexOf(":");
         String username = decoded.substring(0,i);
         String pwd = decoded.substring(i+1,decoded.length());
    %>
    Then it has a form with a field checker and then login function:
    function do_login()
    if (is_ie)
    window.document.authenticate.submitbutton.click();
    else
    window.document.authenticate.submit();
    <form method="post" name="authenticate" onsubmit="return check_fields();">
    Log in
    I was wrong about the cookie. It doesn't set it in that html file, it just checks to see if a cookie exists, if it does, it passes the user through. Normally I would use a cookie bean to do this, but again I have to do this for multiple sites which have different values and encryption. I just want to pass the credentials through and then let the back end do the rest. Do you know of a better way? Thanks for replying.

  • Oracle J2EE container, Web Layout, JSP, Tomcat

    Please help me with the next questions:
    1)Oracle DB server and Oracle J2EE container are located in different places. The jsp in Oracle report web layout was generated. I put this JSP on the Oracle J2EE container and tried to run this jsp:
    http://localhost:port/reports/weblayout.jsp and got the next error:
    javax.servlet.jsp.JspException

         at com.evermind.util.ThreadPoolThread.run(ThreadPoolThread.java:64)
    Do I need to deploy this jsp on Oracle J2EE container and if yes in what way?
    2)can I run this jsp in Tomcat?
    Thank you.

    hello,
    reports JSPs need the report server environment availabel and can not be deployend to a vanilla J2EE container. you can take a look at our "Tools" section of the reports page here on OTN (go to the reports homepage and click on the "search" link in the news section. there you can look for "tools and utilities" which contain instructions on how what you need to do. keep in mind though, that this is not a supported configuration. the only way to deploy a reports JSP is inside the J2EE container of the EE edition of the appliation server.
    at this point we do not provide any instruction for other, non oracle, containers.
    thanks,
    ph.
