BEAN ITERATION IS THIS A BUG in JSP /TOMCAT?

Hi,
I am new to JSP but I cant understand why I am getting this problem. I am trying simply to loop thro' an array of beans and print out their value.
A code sample is below:
<%@ page import="subscription.*" %>
<jsp:useBean id="event" class="subscription.EventBean"/>
<%
EventBean[] events = (EventBean[]) request.getAttribute("events");
<%for (int i=0;i< events.length;i++) {
event= events;
%>
<b>bean is</b><jsp:getProperty name="event" property="id" /> </b>
<%}%>
All I get is a list of event ids at 0 as opposed the the id values. It seems to not be referencing the new bean.
If I change the jsp;getProperty to <%=event.getId()%> the correct ids are retrieved. I am using Tomcat 4.1.
I can only think this is user error, as I have not found any similar listings
Help would be welcomed!
Emma.

Hi,
Thankyou for trying to help. Unfortuanately you solution does not work as
you are assiging an object (EventBean) to an array of objects (EventBean).
I can help thinking problem I am getting is because somehow when you do a
<jsp:useBean> to instantiate a bean you can reassign it later on in a scriplet, which is what I am doing. Why you cant is not something I understand.
Maybe it would help if I explained what I want to do. I am trying to get an array of beans from one jsp page and print them out in another.
so my thoughts were (and ironically the text book I am using does exactly this)
//instantiate an EventBean using
<jsp:useBean id="event" class="subscription.EventBean"/>
//get the attributes (they are attributs cos I am dispatching servlet to //jsp page)
<% EventBean[] events = (EventBean[]) request.getAttribute("events"); %>
//This now gives me the array of eventbeans I want to pring out and //rather than do it all in a scriplet try to use jsp tags which is what //all the bks say you should do.
//so I iterate thro' array and assign my EventBean object that I //instantiated using the jsp:useBean
<%
for (int i=0;i< events.length;i++) {
event= events;
%>
//now I try to print out a property (id in this instance)...
<jsp:getProperty name="event" property="id" />
<% } %>
but IT DOES NOT WORK!! I have to go <%=event.getId() %>
my bean is dead simple and works if I am doing simple stuff like setting and getting attributes on a single bean.
Maybe I a not getting scoping in JSP , it is not that clear,like normal
java code and any docs to look at would be welcomed.
Emmma.

  • Is this some bug in JSP ?

    Hi,
    First of all I wish you all a great 2003 year.
    In my JSP I have a method which returns me a big string of the size 20-22 k.
    <%= myClass.MyMethod() %>
    On doing so I get the exception ArrayIndexOutOfBoudException.
    If I break in steps by doing something like
    <%
    String content = myClass.MyMethod();
    out.println(content.subString(0,2000));
    out.println(content.subString(2001,4000));
    out.println(content.subString(4001,6000));
    %>
    It works fine.
    2)If I do somethig like
    <%@ page buffer="25" autoFlush="true" %>
    i.e. buffer more than my content (22k) it again works fine.
    or if I do
    3)<%@ page buffer="none"%>
    This does not make sense as it does not work for the following scenario.
    4)<%@ page buffer="8" autoFlush="true" %>
    Which is contarary to the concept behind the JSP buffering.
    WAITING for some response.
    thanks
    rahul

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply but I did'nt meant that I have just
    subString(0,2000)
    subString(2001,4000)
    subString(4001,6000)
    What I meant that If I break it in chunks of some 2000k it will work otherwise It will not.
    Giving 3 steps using subString()......... was just a example.
    Hope I make myself clear now.
    thanks

  • Help with Jsp: logic:iterate  Cannot create iterator for this collection

    Hello,
    I am developing a jsp with struts. This is the snap of the code:
            <logic:iterate id="prod" collection="productList" >
              <tr align="center">
                   <td><html:text property="prodDesc" size="50" indexed="true"/></td>
                   <td>
                        <html:select property="prodUnit" indexed="true">
                             <option selected>-</option>
                            <OPTION VALUE='NMB'>NMB
                             <OPTION VALUE='TEN'>TEN
                             <OPTION VALUE='TPR'>TPR
                             <OPTION VALUE='GWH'>GWH
                        </html:select>
                   </td>
                   <td><html:text property="prodQty" size="20" indexed="true"/></td>
                   <td><html:text property="prodVal" size="20" indexed="true"/></td>
              </tr>
            </logic:iterate>"productList" is defined as an array of Product[], "prod" is defined as a single Product object in the form. But when i run the page, it gives me this errors:
    "javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Cannot create iterator for this collection".
    I also tried to make "productList" an ArrayList type, but it game me this same error.
    We are using Websphere 4.0 with Struts 1.1.
    Anyone can help?
    Thanks a lot.
    All the best,
    warren

    Hi , I have similar problem. wonder anyone can help me. I have a datastructure. ArrayList contains list of Hashtable; each Hashtable has two key-value sets ; for each key-value set , value is a ValueObject.

  • ServletException: Cannot create iterator for this collection

    hi,
    i am using struts action class with struts tags to display
    data in jsp page.
    in struts class i am return arraylist ,
    same list i am displaing in jsp.
    if Arraylist have data ,i am not getting error.
    but if arraylist empty ,i am getting ServletException: Cannot create iterator for this collection
    <logic:iterate id="result" name="fileList" >
    <td><bean:write name="result" property="fileName"/></td>
    </logic:iterate
    can any one help how to avoid this exception?
    thanks
    siav

    You could use <bean:size> to get the size of the list
    and conditionally execute the logic:iterate,
    something like this :
    That will work, but not necessary. If the collection is empty, the iterate tag just skips - it doesnt throw an exception (tested)
    The problem I guess is that the bean with the specified name is not a Collection. It may be a property of the bean that is a collection in which case the tag should have a property attribute.

  • Panel's Iterator Range Size issue/bug

    I have a panel that is displaying Departments. I have the attributes for that Departments VO dropped on the panel as textboxes with a navigation bar (based on the Departments VO) that allows you to navigate through the departments one by one. I also have that Departments VO dropped on the panel as a Combo Box to allow for faster navigation through the departments (instead of clicking next, next, next, etc) to get to a specific department. In this case, both use the same Iterator in the UI Model. I created a new Iterator in the UI Model for the Combo Box (still based on the same Departments VO) and set its Range Size to -1 to bring back the entire list of Departments in the Combo Box while the other iterator’s Range Size is set to 10 by default. Running the panel, the Departments Combo Box only displays 10 records at a time. Initially, it only displays the first 10 records. When you click on nav bar last record button, it displays the last Department’s record and the Combo Box now only displays the last 10 records. It is not until you click on the “+” button (to insert a new Department) on the nav bar that the Comb Box displays all of the Departments. Once this insert action is performed the Combo Box displays all records no matter what you do, but ONLY after the insert action is performed.
    Also, for example, this Departments is connected to Employees which is connected to Locations. Each has view links set up between them. If all three of these VOs are set up in panels similar to the Departments panel then the same result occurs with the Combo Box only displaying 10 Departments, 10 Employees, and 10 Locations, respectively. Once you perform the insert action on the Departments (as described above to get all Departments to display) it seems to trickle down into the Employees where you can see all the Employees without performing the insert action on the Employees VO, but it doesn’t have any effect on the Locations. If you manually perform the insert action on the Employees, then that will trickle down into the Locations. The Departments, Employees, and Locations panels are on separate cards in a card layout panel. I was able to put all three VOs on a single panel and have a Departments nav bar and a Departments Combo Box (based on separate iterators with different Range Sizes set) with no problem.
    Is this a bug in JDeveloper with doing it the way that I did it using separate cards/panels?

    put your bean in a different package from servlet and include this
    package in your servlet like
    import yourbeanpackage.yourbean
    and then create object of bean and use it

  • Tomcat 4.1 Bean error (Unable to compile class for JSP)

    Help,
    I am using Tomcat 4.1 with with JDK1.3.1_01. I have a JSP page in which I try to use a Bean, but I get the following error from Tomcat.
    The JSP page is very simple. I am using package names in the import statement. Code below.
    I've put the class files under
    <TOMCAT>\webapps\projectname\WEB-INF\classes under the appropriate packages. What else is missing? I can not figure out what I am doing wrong.

    ***************** END TOMCAT ERROR MESSAGE *********************

    Hi
    I am running my Tomcat apps (on a Windows dev machine) in an alternate location (ie. not default webapps). The same crap comes to me every time. Unable to install etc. I have tried every trick in the book regarding classpath settings etc.
    When I use 'javap' to check the classpath from any location on my machine, its works and javap returns the signature of my class.
    When I use it though Tomcat (with the import set to include the filename), it get the error. I have heard rumors that using JDK 1.3 in stead of 1.4 helps, but I just want it to work with 1.4 :)
    So if any of you can help me on this, please.
    PS. On my linux server it works just fine, as does every other thing on that machine ;)

  • First use of jsp and java bean and "Unable to compile class for JSP" error

    Hi,
    I am trying to create my first jsp + java bean and I get a basic error (but I have no clue what it depends on exactly). Tomcat seems to cannot find my class file in the path. Maybe it is because I did not create a web.xml file. Did I forgot to put a line in my jsp file to import my bean?
    Thank you very much for your help.
    Here is my error:
    An error occurred at line: 2 in the jsp file: /login.jsp
    Generated servlet error:
    [javac] Compiling 1 source file
    /usr/local/tomcat/jakarta-tomcat-5/build/work/Catalina/localhost/test/org/apache/jsp/login_jsp.java:43: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class CMBConnect
    location: class org.apache.jsp.login_jsp
    CMBConnect test = null;
    I only have this in my directory:
    test/login.jsp
    test/WEB-INF/classes/CMBConnect.java
    test/WEB-INF/classes/CMBConnect.class
    Do I need to declare another directory in classes to put my class file in it and package my bean differently?
    Here is my login.jsp:
    <%@ page errorPage="error.jsp" %>
    <jsp:useBean id="test" type="CMBConnect" scope="session" />
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>my test</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <h3>Login information</h3>
    <b><%=session.getValue("customerinfo.message")%></b>
    <form> ....... </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    and here is my CMBConnect.java:
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.DriverManager;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    public class CMBConnect
    public CMBConnect () { }
    public String openConnection(String id, String password) {
    String returnText = "";
    try {
    Connection con = null;
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@myserver.abc.com:1521:TEST", id, password);
    if(con.isClosed())
    returnText = "Cannot connect to Oracle server using TCP/IP...";
    else
    returnText = "Connection successful";
    } catch (Exception e) { returnText = returnText + e; }
    return returnText;
    Thanks again!

  • Is this a bug in OWB 11.2 - importing table metadata for character columns

    The Oracle® Warehouse Builder Data Modeling, ETL, and Data Quality Guide provides an overview of the data types supported.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/owb.112/e10935/orcl_data_objx.htm
    It says that for VARCHAR2 data type it saws (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/owb.112/e10935/orcl_data_objx.htm#CHDFIADI )
    "Stores variable-length character data. How the data is represented internally depends on the database character set. The VARCHAR2 data type takes a required parameter that specifies a maximum size up to 4,000 characters"
    That means , I guess, it says that when I import a table, any columns of type VARCHAR2(10) in the database should have its length show as characters in OWB, so a column of type Varchar2(10) in the Oracle database, should be shown as Varchar2(10) when imported into OWB table metadata via the OWB import function.
    However, if I have a database that set-up as a single-byte and import a table using the OWB import function a column that has a size of e.g. 10 in the database, is imported as OWB table metadata and the size is 10. Correct, I am happy.
    However, if the database is modified to support multi-byte characters, ALTUF16 encoding with the semantics set to "CHAR", then when I import the same table into OWB, OWB reports the size as 40, I guess its 40 bytes as in 10 characters @ 4 bytes per character.
    Is this a bug in OWB, as the datatype in the Oracle DB is varchar2(10), should OWB after importing a table not also report the column as VARCHAR2(10) ? Currently, is shows the column as varchar2(40).

    I noticed that myself in our project.
    Our varchars2 are defined as VARCHAR2(xxx CHAR) - OWB puts the size*4
    In fact if you have special characters like umlauts (ü,ä,ö,...) it will use 4 bytes per character.
    You can try it yourself. Define a Varchar2(1 CHAR) and manually change the size of the Column in your mapping inside OWB (in filters, joins or your target table).
    Then shoot an umlaut through the mapping and will end up with a "too small" error.
    Dont mind the size*4 issue - we totally ignored it and run without error since 4 years now.

  • Iphone 6 tells me that "Item not available" in my country UK, when i click on the itunes store icon for the app to open the music, movies or tv shows section of the app. is this a bug?

    I am based in the UK and have just got a new iphone 6, everything works well except when i try to turn on the itunes store app -  i can do a search and buy music etc that way, within the app, however, if i go to Music, Movies or the TV shows section within the Store app, i get a message come up saying "Item Not Available" - This item you've requested is not currently available in the UK Store, but it is available in the US store. Tap Change Store to view this item".   I therefore cannot browse the music, movies or tv shows sections at all, nothing shows up except that message.  All my previous itunes purchases have downloaded ok, and i can access them. My apple ID works fine and restrictions on the iphone are turned OFF. The App Store app works normally. Connection etc is all fine and I can access itunes  in the normal way on my ipad and laptop, so this is just an iphone problem. Any ideas? is this a bug? I cant find anyone else with exactly the same problem. By the way, the same message comes up when i click on the red Music icon, on the iphone (situated next to the Safari icon) and then go to the "Store" via that app.  my playlists are in tact, but as soon as i click that Store button, I am told that the Item is unavailable - not that i have chosen any Item lol, I just want to access the store in the normal way. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you can give

    It is working now. I no longer get the message about the item not being available in the US and I can access the store.

  • Open Cursor Issue because of file browse Item - Is this a Bug in APEX 3.2

    Hi All,
    I am using file browse Item to upload file into the database at two places in my application, but it seems whenever I am submitting those two pages, with file path or without file path, its opening an cursor which remains open after that, because of this open cursor count in the application is getting exceeding every time.
    For testing this I have made an dummy page containing just file browse item and submit button, and still it is increasing the open cursor count.
    Is this a bug in Apex file browse item or there is some other way to handle this.
    Please kindly help me in the above issue as this is affecting the production application.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
    One observation, Apex is switching the Session ID after one got killed ? I was working on Apex page with browse Item to test open cursor count,
    after killing the SID (227) on which the open cursor count was getting increase, it APEX automatically switches to new SID(149) for that session.
    Now the problem is even if I have two SID's and one hits the maximum open cursor count, It is not switching to other SID instead the whole application becomes unavailable.

  • Is this a bug with BoEdge3.1?

    Can anyone help me on the issue which my customer is facing for BoEdge3.1
    Concerning  Error Message: You do not have enough Named User Licenses to make this user a named user. You have 55 Named User Licenses. (FWB 00013)
    This is the error message she was receiving when trying to change an
    existing user from Concurrent to Named under the Connection Type on the
    Properties panel.
    The current workaround was to delete the existing Concurrent user, then re-add the same user as Named.
    She have been going through this process of deleting existing users, and then
    re-adding them as Named and it was working okay. Then, it stopped
    working and she started getting the same FWB 00013 error message again.
    She was not able to create any Named users now. Basically, the workaround
    worked for a while - then stopped working.
    She currently has a total of 88 users. 21 of them are named. 67 of them
    are Concurrent. She is licensed for 55 Named.
    Once again, the system thinks she has 55 users marked as Named. But
    there are only 21 marked as Named.
    She did notice that as she was going through all of her existing list of
    users, in alphabetical order, she was opening the Properties tab and
    checking the Named/Concurrent status - as she got to the 55th user in the
    list that is when she started getting the error message again.
    Is this a bug with BoEdge3.1?
    And I got an ADAPT01194692.
    I am not sure that Is the ADAPT related to this issue.
    Please help me its very critical.

  • JDev 9.0.3, Business comp wizard, is this a bug?

    Howdy,
    Found something that perhaps is a bug, hoping you guys have fixed for the real release.
    1) Create a database connection, but don't fill in username/password. Don't check deploy password.
    2) Create new workspace and project.
    3) create new business component package in the project. On step 2, point Connection name to username/password-less connection. Alert says prompt will ask for credentials. No matter what I put in, with valid username/password entries, a Connect Error pops saying invalid arguments in call. Exception: oracle.jdeveloper.cm.CMException.
    Is this a bug? We're using dynamic credentials in our app with data sources, so username/password is left off.
