JSP & WebSphere 3.5

I have windows 2000 machine running IIS as webserver and Websphere as application server. And I have a domain name that is redirected to the IP address of this machine.
When I access the jsp page via http://computername/mypage.jsp, the page is processed perfectly. It returns me all the records as it is supposed to. However, when I access the page via http://domain.com/mypage.jsp, I get a raw page. The browser returns me the unprocessed mypage.jsp. (I get the actual codes from the page).
So, my guess is that the Websphere is not getting kicked off to process the .jsp file when I access the page via http://domain.com/mypage.jsp.
Can anyone help me with this issue? PLEASE!!
Thanks.

Hi angellak,
Check your WebSphere's internal settings. Using the administrative console, check if domain.com is a configured alias inside "default_host". If not, insert it, stop/start service and try again. This property controls what domains WebSphere should answer.
My guess is that your domain is not configured and that there is a PASS command configured on IIS that responds your requests, but without understanding JSP (only WebSphere can work it out).

    Hi,
    I have a strange problem with some JSPs that works with WebSphere. When I execute the JSP it always works correctly but sometimes appears at my logs system some errors like:

    Ive seen that it can happen when the user closes the browser. Theres a patch at WebSphere home that repair that situation. But the problem (better, the question) is that it also happens sometimes when the user doesnt closes the browser and dont finish the connection. Why it happens if nobody is closing the browser nor is finishing the connection? The bean associated always computes correctly the operations related.

    Hi, your problem is quite easy to resolve; my collegue near me, few day ago suggested me to set the buffersize on the jsp page at the top in order to erase this nasty error; following the solution:
    <%@ page language="java" import "......" buffer="1000kb" %>

  • Setting up Microsoft SQL Server datasource in Websphere 4.0

    Does anyone know how to setup an SQL Server jdbc driver in Websphere 4.0? I am using jdbc driver from jTurbo. But I am having trouble specifying the proper URL and other datasource settings in Websphere 4.0 (or WTE) server configuration.

    Hi,
    Please find the extract from jTurbo site (http://www.newatlanta.com/support/jturbo/third-party.jsp#WebSphere)
    which will explain the steps to follow for setting up Microsoft SQL Server datasource
    in Websphere 4.0 using jTurbo jdbc driver.
    1.Always make sure the JTurbo.jar is set in your classpath.
    2.Started "WebSphere Admin Server"
    3.Open "WebSphere Administrative Console"
    4.Install the JTurbo Driver into WAS by modifying the following field of "Admin DB Driver"
    Name: JTurbo
    Class Name: com.ashna.jturbo.driver.Driver
    URL prefix: jdbc:JTurbo://localhost/pubs
    JTA Enabled: false
    (apply changes which resulted in the installation of JTurbo Driver)
    5.Selected "Create Data Source" in Console "Wizards" drop down
    6.Selected "Use an already installed JDBC Driver" JDBC Option
    7.Specified "my ds name" as the "Data Source Name"
    Specified "pubs" as the "Database Name" pull down is showing "JTurbo"
    This should sucessfully create a new data source by the name of "my ds name".
    Also there is an excellent document on "Configuring the Merant ConnectJDBC data source for MS SQL Server for the WebSphere Application Server Advanced Single Server Edition" at http://www-4.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/doc/v40/ae/infocenter/was/was402/rn112253.4.html .
    Hope this helps. Good luck.

    hi tw
    I did my certification in SAP SD from Bangalore by month of October 2012, after that
    i received only one opportunity to attend interview at Capgemini, I cleared my
    interview but unluckily project was canceled and they haven't done any recruitment.
    your view is add on Knowledge, still I am maintaining studying, at least every day 7hrs plus, but problem is, job market or industry not have need of certified person, companies prefer to get 3 years real time exp persons more willingly than certified fresher.
    I had discussed with few of the HR managers, their reply was, in certification course there is no real time project training, it’s just about overall SAP concept, so we prefer 1 or 2 years exp people.
    So my opinion is going for SAP SD certification is useless and money wasting.

  • Urgent help needed in compiling JSP on websphere 6

    we are migrating our app from websphere 5 to 6 version. our app has 2 JSP files. Jsp A and Jsp B...
    Jsp A code
    if(cond met) { <%@ include file = JspB %> }
    Now JSP B code
    <bean:define id='X' />
    when i run the JSP A, it throws compilation error as below..
    Jsp A failed to compile, variable X not resolved
    An error occured in the statically included jsp B
    The same code is running on websphere 5. its giving error on 6. ..Pls help..This is urgent,

    Could you post more details perhaps? Eg. the complete files.
    Also, I would recommend that you consider using the runtime include, <jsp:include ...>, and put your variables in the request scope.

  • How can I link to a jsp page from another jsp page within websphere portal?

    Afternoon all,
    I have a websphere portlet which displays a jsp page. I want to put a hyperlink on the jsp page which when clicked will open another jsp page.
    Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    The anchor tag is the correct one for generating clickable links.
    <jsp:forward> is for transferring control at the server end. Its when you decide to change which page you want to show the user. ie check user is logged in. If not then forward them to login page, else display current page.
    I tried that. It does open the jsp page
    but the place and page links in the portal theme get screwed up.Whats mucked up about them? Do they point where they shouldn't?
    You might try using a <base> tag to set where relative links are resolved from.
    Cheers,

  • Importing class to JSP in websphere (newbie)

    Hi I am trying to figure out how to properly import a class in a JSP.
    The DocumentRoot directory is set in Websphere and that is where my JSP's reside. I have created a folder off of the DocumentRoot directory called classes and placed my .class file in there. I then set the classes directory in the classpath (and restarted the appserver)
    I have an import statement in my jsp for the class.
    I am now getting an error that says it is unable to compile because of null. Any ideas????
    Below is a test piece of JSP code and the class code:
    <%@ page import="java.io.*, java.util.*, java.text.*, IPRStat, java.net.*,java.sql.*"%>
    <HTML>
    <BODY>
    <%
    try {
    String IPRNum = "001-0001";
    String IPRStatus = "OK";
    IPRStat Testing = new IPRStat(IPRNum, IPRStatus);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    out.println("Error detected " + e.getMessage());
    %>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    class IPRStat
    public IPRStat(String i, String d )
    iprnum = i;
    status = d;
    public String getIPRNum()
    return iprnum;
    public String getStatus()
    return status;
    private String iprnum;
    private String status;
    -----------------------------------------------------

    DocumentRoot (looks something like: /aibm/Userdata/WebAsAdv/default/mydev) is where my JSP's live (i.e.)
    /aibm/Userdata/WebAsAdv/default/mydev/testidea.jsp
    and I made a directory off of DocumentRoot called classes:
    /aibm/Userdata/WebAsAdv/default/mydev/classes
    And copied IPRStat.class into the classes directory.
    /aibm/Userdata/WebAsAdv/default/mydev/classes/IPRStat.class
    I then put the path (/aibm/Userdata/WebAsAdv/default/mydev/classes) in the classpath and restarted the appserver.
    At this point there is no Web-INF that I can see. I am new to Websphere myself. Is version 3.5.4 standard edition. I am using the websphere admin console to set the classpath.

    It looks like you have an error compiling your JSPs. Without the text of the JSP, it is difficult to say what the problem might be.
    You should probably ask this type of question on the developerWorks forums, though.

    There aren't many WebShere users in this forum.

  • How to Debug JSP in Websphere 3.5 ?? Urgent

    Hi,
    can somebody help me debuuging JSP in Websphere Application server 3.5 .Remember I dont have
    Websphere Studio or any other tool.any help in this regard is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jack

    In most cases, you can debug an application by using the old standby of printing status lines after each significant chunk of code. For example, you can always output the page's parameters to make sure you've received what you think you've received.
    In the cases that Java throws an exception, you can make a rough guess as to what the problem is, based on the exception. A NumberFormatException usually occurs when you try to convert a letter into a number. The original intent would be to take a string "10" and convert that into the integer 10. SQL Exceptions are a little more vague, but again, you can at least narrow down the problem.
    Specific debuggers, while nice to have, are not really necessary. Through experience, and trial and error, you will eventually discover (and remember) the most common kinds of errors and how to avoid them.
    As a general rule, until you become proficient, always code a little chunk of the application at a time, and test that chunk to make sure it's working properly. It's far easier to track down a bug if you know it's somewhere in a dozen lines of code that you wrote that morning.
    If you are using Internet Explorer, you may want to confirm that Explorer is not giving you "friendly error messages". You can check this in the tools->internet options->advanced dialog box. By default, IE hides specific error messages, including JSP errors, because Microsoft rightly feels that your grandmother would just get confused.

  • How to call EJB deployed on websphere from JSP running on Tomcat?

    I am trying to establish communication between two app servers. I have a sample EJB deployed on Websphere and wish to call its business methods from a JSP page which is running on Apache Tomcat server. (ie) Tomcat is client to websphere. Is it possible to do? • Struggling to run JSP on WebSphere Application Server

    Hi, where must I place a JSP (very simple stand alone JSP which is not even part of a web application) file on WS Application Server (V 3.5.4) so that it can be executed from a web browser (e.g. http://xyz.com/.../.../myfile.jsp). I have gone through WebSphere 3.5 Handbook (IBM Redbook) document but no luck. Should any of the configuration files, either on web server or app server, be changed to get JSP working?
    I have an alias in httpd.conf file (configuration file for the web server) as
    Alias /IBMWebAS/ C:/WebSphere/AppServer/Web
    I could run a html file as http://xyz.com/IBMWebAS/myfile.html. C:/WebSphere/AppServer/Web is a directory on App Server.
    Do I need to make any changes on App server administration console?
    Thanks

    Yes, I got the test servlet to run.
    I am not sure what you mean by creating an application and placing it in the classpath?
    I am facing the challenge to get plain and simple JSP going. All this JSP would do is output greeting message based on the time of the day (I obtain time using Calender class).
    I am using the HTTP web server that came with WAS but don't have a clue what it could be missing. Could you give out those missing lines in the conf file. Thnx.

  • JSP on IBM WebSphere Application Server 3.5.4

    Hi, Could pls. someone suggest what is required to be done to get a JSP working on IBM WebSphere Application Server.
    This is what I have tried so far:
    One of the directories on the app server is
    C:\WebServer\AppServer\hosts\default_host\examples\web
    When I place a JSP in the above path, it works fine (http://localhost/webapp/examples/xyz.jsp in the browser).
    Question:
    Where is webapp (as it appears in the URL) defined?
    Then, I go on to create new directories as follows
    C:\WebServer\AppServer\hosts\default_host\MyApps
    C:\WebServer\AppServer\hosts\default_host\MyApps\web
    Place a working JSP in C:\WebServer\AppServer\hosts\default_host\MyApps\web. And when I enter http://localhost/webapp/MyApps/xyz.jsp or http://localhost/MyApps/xyz.jsp in the browser, the JSP can't be located.
    What is required to be done (from mapping point of view) and where? Does anything pertaining to JSP need to be defined on the HTTP Web Server (not for JSP's I think). Where should I put the JSP file so that everything for the application could be grouped together and it will work as well.
    I have gone through other postings on this issue on this forum but they have been of little help.
    Any thoughts on how to get this working.
    Thanks

    I use IBM Visual Age 3.5 & 4 which contains a scaled down vesion of Websphere for running servlet and JSPs. I am very familiar with the intricacies of running web apps in in this scaled down environment. What I'm about to tell you may or may not apply to WAS but it should help you.
    You can't simply add a directory under default_hosts and expect a new web app to appear. Websphere only recognizes web apps that are set up properly in the servlet_engine file. Each server has it on servlet_engine file located in the properties directory. For the default server, the file is named default.servlet_engine. In that file you must add a new <webspher-webgroup> element as a child element to <websphere-servelet-host name="default_host">. I added a web app to my server and it looks like this.
    <websphere-webgroup name="second_app">
           <description>The second app</description>
           <document-root>$approot$/web</document-root>
           <classpath>$approot$/servlets$psep$$server_root$/servlets</classpath>
           <root-uri>/</root-uri>
           <auto-reload enabled="true" polling-interval="3000"/>
           <shared-context>false</shared-context>
      </websphere-webgroup>I can't remember if it automatically creates the directory structure for you now or not, but at any rate, this web app will be stored in c:\WebServer\AppServer\hosts\default_host\second_app with the enclosed web direrectory as your location for JSPs.
    One more thing to mention. For every web-app you create, there is a descriptor file similiar to the web.xml deployment descriptor you see in /WEB-INF for the servlet 2.2+ spec. In my case the file is name second_app/servlets/second_app.web_app. In the descriptor you would probably want to configure some settings specific to your web app such as servet registration, init parameters and which version of the jsp compiler to use.
    Since IBM came out with WAS 3.5 before the Servlet 2.2 spec went mainstream for Servlet Containers, WAS's configuration is quite unconventional. But, I found that the documentation that comes with WAS explained all these configuration quirks quite well.
    Hope this helps
    Steve
