JTables how to apply multiple cell renderers to a cell

I have a complicated table with many different cell renderers depending on column type. (i.e check boxes, editable text fields, formatted fields, fields with icons etc..) Now I need to add the capability to color rows depending on a certain status value of a column. How can I add this capability since I already have renderers for the cells> Most examples I have seen for manipulating row colors simply extends DefaultCellRenderer for the entire table, but I already have renderers for these cells.

Create an interface and make each renderer implement a method that colours in the background for you. Just an idea, haven't tried it myself

How to apply multiple automator workflows to one file

Hi everyone,
I've set up a few workflow applications to automate the process of making packshots from PDF files. The way those roughly work is they create a temporary copy in a folder, open a Photoshop droplet that executes all the actions on the file, and then save the finished product in a "finished" folder.
However, we frequently need to deliver multiple packshots made from the same file. I was asked to make one automator app that allowed us to drop the PDF version on it, resulting in the multiple types of packshots in the "finished" folder, together with the original PDF.
The way I have this set up right now is as follows:
1) Copy the original PDF file to the "finished" folder
2) Execute the first automator app
3) Execute the second automator app
This seems simple enough, and does work in 10.6.8. When I try it on a different computer in our studio though, with 10.7 installed, I get various errors:
- Sometimes it says an error occured within one of the automator apps, while the app works fine when running it seperately (on all computers).
- Sometimes it says something like "An error occurred while converting the data" when moving on from the first application to the second application
- Sometimes I'll get an error message in the log, saying:
*** -[_NSArrayl objectAtIndex:]: index 0 beyond bounds for empty array
What I got from this is that it's actually not getting the right input it requires (or not getting any input, since it's an empty array). However, the previous task is set to "return the task input" (our systems are Dutch so excuse me for any discrepancies in translations please), and the resulting output that I get seems to be what I want the next automator application to use. Below is a screenshot of the error message:
What I've tried:
- I read somewhere that the newer versions of Automator require the action "Retrieve selected finder items" between them. I've tried using this in various ways (between all other actions/tasks, only before the second application to be run and before both applications to be run), but with no success. The problem I have with these is that, during the applications, it moves the files around, thus apparently selecting those folders as well.
- Building an entirely new workflow on the newer system
- Using "Start application" instead of "Execute Automator workflow". This results in Automator saying that it did execute the workflow while nothing happened.
- Using "Ignore input" for the second application. This also results in Automator saying that it executed the workflow while nothing happened.
So right now, I'm pretty stumped as to how to get this combination of apps to work in 10.7. Any solutions or workarounds are most welcome.

If so, a simple MTS files managing and editing tool is needed. Maybe you can have a try the Mac version of Aunsoft Final Mate for managing HD camcorder footages. I just downloaded its free trial version and it offers a simple way of garping footages directly from camcorder. And also it provides a attractive feature to join flawlessly and split accurately native MTS files for video file output with original MTS format.

How to apply multiple effects on one clip

Here's a simple question, so I guess there's got to be a simple solution. Is it possible to have more than just one effect on one clip? If yes, how can I do that? I've searched the iMovie help, but it didn't give me any answer.

No, you cannot apply more than one effect at a time in iMovie '09.
However, you can always adjust Video Levels, Exposure, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, etc. in Inspector.

usually i need to create many watermarked datasheets for different customers using a single base pdf. currently i run individual actions for individual customers on the same file which means i have to runs 10s of individual actions every time i have new source file. can i make a single action or a script which will take a single source file, run multiple actions(~15-20) for watermarks and save these files separately? basically what i need is instead of running many individual actions i run a single action/script to make it automatic. if yes, how to do so?

How to apply multiple saved headings/footers to a document?

Good afternoon!
I hope this 1) isn't a duplicate question (I searched for similar problems before posting) and 2) isn't the case of stupid human error I suspect it is.
Basically, I've created and saved five or six different header/footers that I need to apply to a document. After opening my document, I follow the following steps:
1. Document -> Header & Footer -> Add -> Apply first saved header
2. Save document
3. Document -> Header & Footer -> Add -> Click "Add New" -> Apply second saved header
At the point where I choose the second saved header, the header I applied first disappears in the preview window, and as soon as I apply the second saved header, it overwrites the first header entirely rather than coexisting with it on the page.
Is there a way to make multiple saved headers/footers exist simultaneously in a single document? I know you can add new headers/footers by hand to a document with existing headers/footers as described in the Acrobat Help File, but I have scores of documents to apply these to, so I wanted to use saved settings together with a batch job.
I hope that's all clear, but please let me know if there's any confusion as to what I've done/need to do.

If the values for Top, Bottom, Left, and Right are the same in the Margin pane of each saved setting's "Add Header and Footer" dialog you may want to consider making each saved setting's Margin setup different.

How to select multiple cells on a spreadsheet (online diary) without click and drag or shift and arrow keys as iPad has neither :(

Hey guys really annoyed as I got my I pad with main reason of being able to update my online diary which is basically a spreadsheet, but I can't select more than one cell to book out a time slot, dragging just tees up the copy function and without arrow keys cannot shift and highlight, coming from windows wandering if this function is done another way on macs? Any help would be appreciated as I'm thinking only way is to get the wireless keyboard which has arrow keys but kind of defeats the point of iPad.

I guess I should state how much of a newbie I am.
I did take a summer Java course at a community college this summer and I have some other programming experience (mostly Matlab).
The course covered a lot of the language but it wasn't exhaustive. We covered (in no particular order) Arrays, Interfaces, overloading, inheritance, loops, actionlisteners, Layout managers, exceptions (a little) One thing that we really didn't get into were packages.
We did some GUI design, but not a whole lot.
The programming that I do with Matlab is very similar to C. (i.e. highly procedural not Object Oriented) so I think that's where some of my stumbling blocks are. I feel pretty comfortable reading Java code and using the API (sort of) but I didn't even know that 2D intersections existed.
I have just started using eclipse last week. My previous coding was just done with textpad, so I am trying to get used to compiling code and building projects (and .jars) with an IDE.

How to apply multiple paragraph styles to one sentence?

I'm using paragraph styles but is not helpful because I'm trying to apply 2 different styles within the same sentence which is not working.
To make it work I select the sentence, apply the style, for instance "xfont-regular" then I select the word within the sentence that I want it to have a different style and I choose from the font list maybe italic so that it looks "something like this"
Obviously by doing this, I'm loosing all the benefits of using p styles and of course it's so time consuming. Is there any way to break the sentence, keeping it in the same line, so that I can apply different styles to it? and still keep the benefits of just going to the styles and make the changes to the whole document that have that style applied.

As Diane King mentioned, nested character styles may work for your need. Her example was an initial dropped capital (multi-line first one or several letters of a paragraph.) Dropped caps are a specific type of nested style - always the first one or more characters in a paragraph, two or more lines high.
To use the general kind of nested style, you need to be able to identify the word or words within the paragraph that gets the nested character style. For example, the third word, or the first two words after the first semi-colon. If there is no pattern of word(s) that can be identified by position or sequence, it's possible that a GREP style can be used to find a common pattern of characters and apply a character style to it, for example a telephone number, date, or currency amount that's identified by a dollar sign, pound, or yuan.
Search InDesign Help and Google for "InDesign nested style," "InDesign grep style," and similar terms (without quotes) for details. There have been many discussions of GREP on this forum.

How to apply multiple styles for nested tags in XML?

Say you import this XML into InDesign:
<Root>
<strong>
<em>Bolded and Italicized</em>
</strong>
</Root>
And you have two character styles, bold and italics, to map to strong and em tags respectively.
You will see that the text appears italicized not bolded and italicized as expected. Generally, only the innermost tag will get the style and will overwrite its parent styles.
Notice the XML is generated dynamically and tags order is not enforced. Also, there's an additional underline tag that can be nested with these two.
So far I have tried to use GREP styles (with paragraph styles), but these do not have effect in the XML tags.
Other possible options not tried yet:
Create new tags for every formatting combination. Not what I really want because I could en up with a lot of tags each one with a corresponding styles.
Create InDesign XML rules to apply character styles automatically based on the tags
Use character styles in the XML with the aid namespace referencing InDesign styles. Will this really work?
What do you suggest to go for? See any other option?

I'd say that you should create tags not for appearances, but for semantic content. Specifying formatting styles in your XML betrays your lack of familiarity with the format, because the last thing you'd want to do would be to use HTML markup in the middle of your XML. If you have content that's supposed to be both bolface and oblique - say, a warning - then it's marked up as
<warning>Never refer directly to formatting in your XML markup, only to content types!</warning>
If I had a document that was written in the style you suggest - one with lots of overlapping local formatting - I'd look at developing a better style guide that told the writers that doing so would be bad form. Because, you know, many of the writers I deal with are addicted to forms of emphasis that do nothing useful whatsover for their readership - they only serve to overemphasize the authorial voice of the writers.
Maybe you could tell us why you need these overlapping forms of styling, and we could suggest other InDesign formatting tools (like line styles or nested styles) that would help you get the appearance you want without crowding styling markup into your XML - where, strictly speaking, it doesn't really belong.

Not really, since you would have to specifically assign each property separately at some point. You could create a function that you feed the object and the property values into, but that function would need to handle assigning the individual properties one at a time.

I do not beleive this is possible, I can see other threads here from 2 years ago asking the same thing and none of them have answers.
You can selesct a range of adjacent cells as Eric said, but not 2 different ranges. I usually use numbers on the iPad for filling in template spreadsheets that I create on my Mac. Most of the formatting I do on the Mac then fill in the blanks whilst i'm out and about.

Applying multiple strokes with JS

Does anybody have any idea, how to apply multiple strokes to a path with JavaScript? Assigning strokes width, caps, position in stack (my particular concern)? All i can do at the moment is to apply a single stroke. Thanks in advance!

I'm writing a script that would generate random stroke appearences on the fly, so using premade graphic styles does not work for me. Your samples work for a single stroke and so far i can't figure out how to apply several of them to the same path. Every next setting overwrites the previos. Can't get, say, two storkes of different width and color applied to the same path.
yourpath.zOrder (ZOrderMethod.SENDTOBACK); works in the layers stack for moving layers up and down, and i would like to move strokes in appearance tab the same way. Can't figure out how to make it either. Thank you anyway, Carlos!
