JTree + complex documents (XML)

Hi there,
I have the following problem:
I want to visualise complex documents, such as xml-documents by means of the JTree Class.
I wonder if there is any sense in implementing a class defining what exactly should be shown as a node and what should be shown as a leaf.
So what I want to do is inherit a class from JTree, passing an instance of a class as described above. Now the JTree would have to draw itself by means of the declaration in the class passed in a constructor.
Do you understand what I mean?
Is this senseful, what ways are there in Java implementing this?
Do you have other ideas?
Thank you,
sincerely
Karlheinz Toni

I have a program that allows me to edit XML documents (it came from Microsoft). And it does display the XML in its tree form, and allow me to edit nodes or leaves. So yes, it is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
In answer to the rest of the question, you don't understand enough yet to ask that question. First of all you would not extend JTree, instead you would create your own tree model to support a generic JTree. If you look at the API documentation for JTree you will find a link to a tutorial about how to do that. Second, you can parse your XML document into a DOM, which is a tree-structured object that your tree model would work with. Here's a link to a whole lot of tutorials about XML: http://java.sun.com/webservices/docs/1.0/tutorial/index.html

• Corrupted word doc - document.xml corrupted

Word document containing full semester uni work of my friend. She had NO backups and file was kept on USB key (hard to believe but true).
I tried renaming as .zip and extracting the document.xml - no luck.
tried hex editor to see if I could see any text  - nothing.
I'm not interested in recovering the images in the file (got those ok). Just need the text if possible. (or point me to tools which might work?)
Thank you very much.

It had a PK zip signature at the beginning of the file which is why I tried 7-zip.  I looked at another 'docx' file and it did too.  I didn't realize that 'docx' files were also zipped.
I had the same problem with 'document.xml' but the other 'xml' files seemed to open fine.  I couldn't extract or view 'document.xml'.
Try to look at the answer here:

• Exact JTree Structure to XML

I've been looking for a solution to this problem for some time now, and still no luck.
I'm going to point out first that I do NOT know the exact structure of the Tree Model. This is because the user can manipulate the tree as they wish. My problem comes when I want to save/load this tree structure, I thought that XML seems like the ideal choice.
My problem is that because I don't know the structure of the Tree Model, I'm not sure how to loop through every node in the Tree Model and add it to my XML Document.
People have suggested looping through the Tree Models children, except that wouldn't return the many other nodes that may be in the Tree Model.
If I haven't explained it very well, or you need to know any extra info just reply asking.
Hope someone out there can give me a hand, cheers!

You could get the root node as DefaultMutableTreeNode:
TreeModel treeMdl = jTree.getModel();
DefaultMutableTreeNode root = (DefaultMutableTreeNode) treeMdl.getRoot(); and traverse the tree from there.
DefaultMutableTreeNode class has some related methods:
public Enumeration preorderEnumeration()
public Enumeration postorderEnumeration()
public Enumeration breadthFirstEnumeration()
public Enumeration depthFirstEnumeration()
public int getChildCount()
public TreeNode getChildAt(int index)

i have a complex structure of swf + xml structure.  something like 200 files..  i was wondering if is it possible to create an air application for install all this package on a client and then check is some file of the structure is updated on the server and then after a user confirmation download and replace those files.
if is it possible someone could give me guideline for develop this application?
thank you so much

AIR doesn't support incremental updates. Any update package is a full install.

• Archiving Change Documents - XML Archiving.

Hello Archiving experts,
I need to archive change documents of my application. There is already a change document archiving class "CHGDOCU" which I can use for this. But this is only for ADK based approach.
Basically, I want to know if there is any Archiving class available for archiving change documents in XML based archiving?
Thanks for your help.
Best Regards,
Pramod

Hi Thomas,
if you want to go with SARA, you would have to archive hundreds of objects, since change documents are (as of 4.5B, I think) no longer deleted/archived by themselves, but always with their respective objects.
You can easily check that for yourself: in transaction DB15 click on the radio-button 'Archiving Objects' --> Objects for Table --> CDCLS (you can only view the cluster, not it's components). You will get a list of all archiving objects that 'contain' change documents.
That leaves you the option to find out, to which object most of your 500 mio. change document positions belong, but my guess would be that this would be quite a lot ... so either, you are considering an overall archiving project (which is no short-term goal) or you use one of the reports that make a 'hard-cleanup' of CDCLS --> there are various notes in OSS about that topic, make sure you read them all, since the impact is not to be necglected.
As for the artice in question, you may not need it ... there are 33 hits for object CHANGEDOCU in OSS - I think you can get all the information you need there, however - if you want to use this object, please keep in mind that you are cutting the connection between the business object and the changedocu - like described in note 1325862.

• Problems with JSP Documents (XML Mode)

Hi --
Have been following the spec for JSP as XML documents because I want to produce JSPs using XSLT. Two problems which I've yet to find anything but workarounds for:
1. (Most pressing) JSP Documents do not allow this <%= blah %>. This creates problems when I want to dynamically create an attribute value. The spec recommends this: 'value = "%=var%"', but I've tried this in Tomcat 4.1.12 and the expression gets reproduced literally at run-time. I've searched these forums and not found an answer.
2. Transformer wigs out on colons in "jsp:root" or "c:out" because it signifies a namespace with which it is unfamiliar. It doesn't need to recognize the namespace. Right now I'm putting in placeholders (jsp999root, for example) and replacing them after processing. Is there a better way?
These problems are really getting in the way. Any help would be most appreciated.

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page">

• Document - XML

How to get an xml string representation of the org.w3c.dom.Document or how to get an xml file from
this Document?
Looks like toString() is not enough.

Document document;
FileOutputStream xmlOut = new FileOutputStream(new File("file://c:/xml/xmlOutput.xml"));
TransformerFactory tffactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
Transformer transformer = tffactory.newTransformer();
DOMSource source = new DOMSource(document);
StreamResult result = new StreamResult(xmlOut);
transformer.transform(source, result);

• How to make Service Callout to Document (XML) Based Web Service Proxy

Hi,
I am receiving a String which is basically XML via MQ.
I want to do a Web Service Callout using the String based XML to a Proxy Service that is a Document Based Web Service.
When I make the call using the String as the input parameter, I get many PipeLine Exception errors on the console and it does not reach the Web Service.
Based on my readings, I believe that I need to place an XMLObject variable in the Service Callout instead of a String.
How do I do this?
I've tried the fn-bea:inlinedXML function but that does't seem to work.
Regards
Aziz

Hi Anuj, seems that the problem was an invalid character in the Mq Message when I tried to apply the inlinedXML method to it.
This is resolved now.
The solution:
1) Assign Mq $Body to variable
2) Use Java Callout to remove special characters fn:string(body)
3) convert Java Output String to XML using inlinedXML xquery function
4) Do a replace on the $body node contents using the XML variable
5) Call Web Service.
if you dont do the XML conversion, the web service throws a Pipeline Exception.

• JTree stored as XML

Portion of my java source code based on Jtree is given below.
public class myMutableTreeNode extends DefaultMutableTreeNode
// tree nodes rendered as JTable
public myWin extends Jframe()
// constructor
top = new myMutableTreeNode();
jTree1=new JTree(top);
// nodes are added to tree and rendered as jtable
// On save menu option, I want to save this Jtree1 using XML and later retrieve on open command.
if (e.getActionCommand() == "Save")
XMLEncoder encoder = new XMLEncoder( new BufferedOutputStream(new FileOutputStream( "sample.xml" ) ));
DefaultTreeModel c = (DefaultTreeModel)jTree1.getModel();
encoder.writeObject(c);
encoder.close();
But it did not work as I expected. Will anybody say what I am doing wrong and help to solve this problem?
Thanks.

Well, if you can't be bothered to post syntactically correct code, I'd be surprised if anyone takes the trouble to give a good response.
In fact, to get better help sooner, post a SSCCE that clearly demonstrates your problem.
To post code, use the code tags --
Your Code
will display asYour CodeOr use the code button above the editing area and paste your code between the {code}{code} tags it generates.

• [JS][CS3] Trying to use XSL to transform a XML document

I´m trying to do a script to format my XML in a particular way. The XSL document is ok because I´ve used this document to format an XML document in Indesign CS3 and works fine.However, when I´m trying to use this document in my scripting method I can´t obtain my XML formatted. I´ve tried it many times but I really don´t know where is the problem.
I´ve changed the XMLExportPreferences (allowTransform,TransformFileName)in my scripting method before exporting my XML in order to obtain a formatted XML.
Anyone have any idea? What are the steps to make this work?
Thank u,
Peter

I'm having a similar problem but with importing XML. When I run this script I get a dialogue saying that "Stylesheet 'Macintosh HD:Users:myFolder:transform.xsl, specified in the XSLT processing instruction can not be found." But this is the location of the stylesheet??
Here's the entire script (a combination of Adobe samples):

• Xml files in documents?

I found xml files in my documents. Did these come with my Mac? What are they? In their info it says they were created Dec. 31, 1979, which is way before I got my Mac. Thanks for any clarification.

Sorry, I did try to open them. When I did they just opened a blank Safari window, or warned me they were a applications from Safari that I downloaded on Oct. 2011. I don't remember downloading anything, and I don't want to open them if they'll harm my computer (viruses, etc.). I was just wondering if they came with Macs, like a basic set of documents. They have names like "theme1.xml," "core.xml," "settings.xml," "document.xml," etc. I don't want to delete them if they are important things.
