Jtree - Problem creating a very large one

Hi,
I need to create a multi-level JTree that is very large (aroung 600-650 nodes all in all). At present I am doing the same by creating DefaultMutableTreeNodes and adding them one by one to the tree. It takes a very long time to complete(obviously).
Is there any way of doing this faster? The tree is being constructed from run-time data.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Achyuth

Two thoughts. First, I create 100's of nodes and it's pretty fast. It could be how you are creating/adding them. Make sure your code is not the bottleneck. If you are traversing the entire tree or some other odd way of doing it, it could be the problem. I only say that because I am able to create an object structre, parse XML as I create that structe and create all the nodes and its less than 1 second on a PIV 1.7Ghz system. Maybe on slower systems its a lot slower, but for me its up immediately.
Another way, however, is to keep a Map of "paths" to child items in memory. As you build your object from whever, use a Map to keep path info. Now, add listeners to the tree for expand/collapse. Each time it is about to expand, build up the nodes and add them to the expanding node at that point. If it collapses, discard them. This does one of two things. First, for large trees, you aren't wasting tons of time building the tree at the start, and more so, its probably likely that all those nodes aren't going to be expanded/shown right away. Second, it conserves resources. If your tree MUST open in a fully epxanded state, well, then you may be out of luck. But I would much prefer epxanding and building the child nodes at that moment, rather than do the whole thing first.

I inadvertently created a very large file on my hard drive. Not needing it I sent it to the Trash Can. However, the deletion process never completes. Any suggestions as to how to delete it ? I re-installed the OS but the file was still there taking up needed space.

Command-click all of the files you want to delete and don't actually move them to the Trash until you've gone through the entire folder.

  • Why does the persona that I created get very large when I post it even though its the correct dimensions?

Every time we try and upload our persona, it shows up on screen very large. It seems like the dimensions are oversized and shows up on screen as only about 1/4 of the full design. Its like an extreme close up view of what what we built. We've built it to the specs provided on the site. If you want to check it out, the persona was created by Worth. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I am using the default db the installation uses which is PointBase. I am not using any specific db, JDBC Datasource/Connection pool Configuration.
Just to try something different, I tried creating a domain w/ one Admin and Managed Server which uses a Cluster and I did not get any errors. From what I read, a cluster is not necessary but not sure why it works without errors w/ a cluster.
I will try commenting out the datasource from the config and see what happens and will let you know.

  • Problem creating multiple tables in one story

    Hello,
I have a script that imports text from a .txt file and then makes a table out of it. That works fine. However, at a later time I will want to import some more text from a different .txt file and also make that into a table. And I’ll want the ability to do that a number of times.
All of the tables are in the same story.
The first table is created at the same time the ID document is created. When I run the script again to add a second table the script detects that the document exists and presumes there already is a table. The script then goes to a function that creates a second table. All this works fine as well.
However, I cannot then add any more tables without subsequent tables being added into the second table, which is quite messy.
Below is a boiled down script that just concentrates on the problem. I have written it so that it will add a second and third table to the first. What I need to do is to collapse the functions secondTable() and thirdTable() into one function. If you comment out the thirdTable() and run the script with the secondTable() function twice you will see the problem I have.
To make this work, just open up a new ID document, one page, with one text frame.
    Thanks for any help,
    Tom

  • Workflow for creating a very large collage for a wall paper

I have a bunch of photos shot with a canon t4i. My plan is to blow up all the photos and make a collage to print out on wall paper for a wall. I shot all of these photos in RAW. The dimensions of the wall are 101h x 106w. Yes, this collage bogs down my computer to the max. Its ridiculous. But anyways, I am having trouble retaining sharpness in my photos on my collage. I am a beginner with editing raw photos so that might be a problem.
    This is what I did.
    Open new photoshop (101x106")
Edit all photos in camera raw
drag photos from bridge on to photoshop
place and adjust size of each photo
what would you do differently to retain sharpness? It is important that it looks as best as possible because it will be in a small room in the foyer of our office.
    Thanks,
    Riley

I see two problem.  On the print size exceed all the printers I know of.  The widest printers that Epson make can only print 64" wide.  Even if you cut your collage into two with some overlap for alignment.  It would be a nightmare applying 54" wide wallpaper to a wall.  There might be a third problem with cost a Epson printers that can print 54" wide rolls starting price is $10,000.00 and go up to $25,000.00. Expensive wallpaper. And you still need the paper and ink.
For a collage that large you do not need to print at 300 DPI for you will not be viewing the wall that is big and over your height up close where the human eye can resolve down to 300 dpi. In you collage you also show only three image across the top row. Some wider the others. Look at your Cannot T4I the would mean some image would be printed  between 35" to 40" wide. without interpolation your 18MP images printed that size would meant they would print in the 130 to 150 DPI range.  To interpolate from 130-150 to 300  would requite increasing the pixel count in the range of 400 to 500 percent.  That is a lot of interpolation.  I would not do that. I would actually create the collage at 150 DPI.  That resolution should be good for an image that large.  That Collage would not tax Photoshop as much. The 300DPI collage image would be 106x300x101x300=963,540,000  at 150DPI the same image would be 106x150x101x150=.240,885,000  the is 1/4 the number of pixels.
I would flatten the collage and cut it into 7 ovelaping stripts around 16" wide

  • Time problems downloading a very large file

the download file will sometimes disconnect and force starting over. File is 6GB.
    wifi through airport extreme.
any suggestions on how to download either faster or safer?

Use a download manager like Speed Download or iGetter.  They are capable of picking up a incomplete download if the sending site permits it.  As I asked in my first post could you (temporarily) use a wired connection instead of Airport?  I am not sure what your download problem is but it may be worth trying this alternative.
Note there is also a Speed Download Lite but I don't know what its limitations are with respect to Speed Download.  The link I provided here for Speed Download Lite is to the macupdate.com page so that you can see a few other possible download managers in that page's Similar Downloads section.

  • How to create a single large bitmap data at run time?

    Hi All,
Please help me in overcoming the issue that is mentioned below.
Requirement:   Create single very large bitmap data which contain some 30 PNG images loaded and for each image it should have some text.  Images and text are loaded dynamically (AS2 code. Images are stored in a remote server). The bitmap data display should show 8 images at a time and corresponding text. We can see rest content by scrolling (kinetic scroll is implemented). How can I go for it?
    Some questions:
    · Is there any limit for size of bitmap data ( As per link there is restriction on the height of the bitmap we can create in AS2 (max value is 2880 which is not enough for some 30 element list http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashLite/2.0_FlashLiteAPIReference2/WS84235ED5-9394-4a52-A098 -EED216C18A66.html ) How to overcome this limitation?
    · If we create individual bitmap data for 30 individual PNG files, we find some jerks in scroll. How can we have smooth scrolling?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Manjunath

Thank you very much for the reply.
The number of bitmaps are not 30 always. It can vary in real time and since all PNG files are stored in a remote server which are also vary during runtime; so we can not predefine the number of child movieclips. It could be 10 at some duration and may be 20 at some other time.
    Any help?

  • In Mail, one mailbox for Recovered Message (AOL) keeps showing 1 very large message that I cannot delete. How can I get rid of this recurring problem, please?

In Mail on iMac, successfully running OS X Lion, one mailbox on My Mac for "Recovered Messages (from AOL)" keeps showing 1 very large message (more than 20 Mb) that I just cannot seem to delete. Each time I go into my In Box, the "loading" symbol spins and the message appears in the "Recovered Messages" mailbox. How can I get rid of this recurrent file, please?
At the same time, I'm not receviving any new mails in my In Box, although, if I look at the same account on my MacBook Pro, I can indeed see the incoming mails (but on that machine I do not have the "recovery" problem).
The help of a clear-thinking Apple fan would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    I worked it out.
Unhide your hidden files ( I used a widget from http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/hiddenfiles.html)
    Go to your HD.
    Go to Users.
    Go to your House (home)
there should be a hidden Library folder there (it will be transparent)
Go to Mail in this folder
The next folder ( for me ) is V2
Click on that and the next one will be a whole list of your mail servers, and one folder called Mailboxes
Click on that and there should be a folder called recovered messages (server) . mbox
Click on that there a random numbered/lettered folder -> data
In that data folder is a list of random numbered folders (i.e a folder called 2, one called 9 etc) and in EACH of these, another numbered folder, and then a folder called messages.
In the messages folder delete all of the ebmx (I think that's what they were from memory, sorry I forgot as I already deleted my trash after my golden moment).
This was GOLDEN for me. Reason being, when I went to delete my "recovered file" in mail, it would give me an error message " cannot delete 2500 files". I knew it was only 1 file so this was weird. Why 2500 files? Because if you click on the ebmx files like I did, hey presto, it turned out that they were ALL THE SAME MESSAGE = 2500 times. In each of those folders in the random numbers, in their related message folder.
Now remember - DONT delete the folder, make sure you have gone to the message folder, found all those pesky ebmx files and deleted THOSE, not the folder.
It worked for me. No restarting or anything. And recovered file. GONE.
Started receiving and syncing mail again. Woohoo.
    Best wishes.

I think more likely, it's a memory / scratch disk issue.  1.25 gigabytes is a very big image file!!

The only option I'm being given is to create an lCloud account.

The last thing you want is a second iCloud account. Try logging out and back in in System Preferences. If that doesn't work, I'd get AppleCare on the line.

Bob's post says it all. Preview ignores the PDF's Initial View setting, and beyond that, it's a horribly unreliable vehicle for accurate viewing of...just about anything. If you're engaged in professional design work, Preview has no legitimate place in your workflow.

  • Today, I randomly happened to have less than 1GB of hard drive space left. I found very large "frame" files, what are they?

I found very large "frame" files, what are they & can I delete them? (See screenshot). I'm a (17 today)-year-old film-maker and can't edit in FCP X anymore because I "don't have enough space". Every time I try to delete one, another identical file creates itself...
If that can help: I just upgraded to FCP 10.0.4 and every time I launch it it asks to convert my current projects (I know it would do it at least once) and I accept, but everytime I have to get it done AGAIN. My computer is slower than ever and I have a deadline this friday
I also just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7.4, and the problem hasn't been here for long, so it may be linked...
    Please help me!

The first thing you should do is to back up your personal data. It is possible that your hard drive is failing. If you are using Time Machine, that part is already done.
Then, I think it would be easiest to reformat the drive and restore. If you ARE using Time Machine, you can start up from your Leopard installation disc. At the first Installer screen, go up to the menu bar, and from the Utilities menu, first select to run Disk Utility. Completely erase the internal drive using the Erase tab; make sure you have the internal DRIVE (not the volume) selected in the sidebar, and make sure you are NOT erasing your Time Machine drive by mistake. After erasing, quit Disk Utility, and select the command to restore from backup from the same Utilities menu. Using that Time Machine volume restore utility, you can restore it to a time and date immediately before you went on vacation, when things were working.
If you are not using Time Machine, you can erase and reinstall the OS (after you have backed up your personal data). After restarting from the new installation and installing all the updates using Software Update, you can restore your personal data from the backup you just made.
