Just a quection on technology

Hello, gurus!
I'm writing a programm which is setting up network connections on Linux for not advanced users.
I mean I have JComboBox with available Network profiles and a button to press for
executing network configuration command.
The question is: how and in what format should I save all network profiles ?

For a really trivial (time to implement) database,
just define your NetworkConnection class with all the
fields you need and stream your NetworkConnection
objects into a file. Stream the file back in at
startup time. This works well if you've got a small
number of objects. If I stream properties to the file, I'll have:
connectionName.ipNumber=10.0.0.1
connectionName.subnetMaek=255.255.255.0
connectionName.gateway=10.0.0.2
but how can I then select only connection name (example connectionName) to the jcombobox to know which connection I choose ?

  • T/F: iPhone users are not required to pay $15/month extra for Good Technology

I have a personal Droid RAZR M.  You may wonder why I am posting in the iPhone forum but you are about to find out.
I have access to corporate e-mail via Good Technology.  When I got this service set up at the same time I acquired the phone, I was required to upgrade from a $30/month 2GB plan to a $45/month 2GB plan just to have this access ("needed for access to company servers").  That was a surprise but I got over it.  However, since then, I have come to learn the following:
    1.  It appears that other than VZW, no other carriers are charging users extra for access to Good Technology.
    2.  Based on a colleague's information from a Good Technology support engineer and a office mate who is using a VZW iPhone, VZW iPhone users are *not* *required* to move to an Enterprise plan aren't paying an extra $15/month.  If one searches the Internet, I am not the only one asking about this.
If you are using a Verizon Wireless iPhone and have Good Technology on your phone, would you let me know if were *required* to upgrade your data plan and pay extra just for using Good Technology?
    Thanks,
    Techvet

I need to check some information at work about this, since they have some guidance on how their employees can connect to their corporate email with android and iphone devices.

Did Flash just get cr*ppier? What the h*ll is going on?? Now
that we export our swf, we have to make sure that we f'in mask out
the working area? What genius came up with that bulls**t?? Also,
when we put actions on buttons we have to go thru a lot more sh*t

"just" get crappier is a bit of an outdated statement - MX
2004 is flash version 7 and the currect
version is Flash 8 - MX 2004 came out well over a year ago.
You don't and never have had to "mask" out the work area - I
have no idea what you are referring to
    - can you explain in detail what is or is not happening?
Yes they removed normal mode from the AS panel but brought it
back in flash 8 as "Script Assist"
    which is even better.
You refer to "Macromedia" which is no longer (again, dating

  • Formatting FW drive to use w/ FCS, opinions on G-Technology drives

I just bought a G-Technology G-Drive Mini that appears to be Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Is this the best format for working with Mac, FCS, etc including being able to transfer files larger than 2gb?
Also, any opinions on G-Technology drives or the Mini?

Thanks, tjk! Just curiously, any idea what drives lacie use? I've had a number of them, had great results tho they run a bit hot, but have also heard negative opinions.
    Thanks again!
I do not know. My understanding is they use a variety (possibly lowest price deal they can get, but who knows?). My lone experience with a LaCie drive was a negative one, and I know one other person who has had a LaCie and his experience was also negative, thus, I will not be buying/using another LaCie. I've seen plenty of "reviews" (like yours) from people who like them. In the end it's somewhat a game of chance, so backup and backup some more (which gets me thinking, which can lead to trouble sometimes, that with all the HDs laying around here, I don't have a RAID setup . . . hmmmm).

    Hello,
Your acount has been hacked. You should change both your Skype account and e-mail passwords immediately and that of your PayPal account. The ONLY way in which an account can be hacked is by the hacker either knowing (or "cracking") your password. For this reason Skype doesn't reimburse any assets lost due to an account being hacked.  You could also contact Paypal

    Hi,
I just downloaded JDeveloper 11 Technology Preview 2 . Now I tried to migrate my project from Jdev 10.1.3 bit that give an error saying only that it could not migrate the project.
Does migration normally work? And how can I get more information about the error's during the migration?

If I migrate, will my project have the new richclient look and feel like here?:

  • Scanning issue using Canon Imageclass MF4350d

I am trying to scan using the Canon MF4350d. I am using the Canon MF Tool software and it works great, almost. When putting a multi-page document in the sheet feeder, it makes every page a separate PDF, instead of putting them all in one PDF. Canon tells me it works fine in their call center, but that doesn't help me.
Can anyone help me figure out how to scan a 10 page document into a single PDF? Image capture doesn't work well at all.

I'm with you. This line of Imageclass is an amazing device and a tremendous value. There really isn't anything comparable in its price range so to have to fight these details is frustrating.
When I bought my Mac I received the MX310 all in one (inkject) for $30 as a promotion. That works perfectly. So I don't know why they couldn't just bring that scanner technology over to the MF4000 series.
I know the Canon software doesn't support multi-page, but I don't understand why Image Capture works so poorly (i.e., doesn't work) with the document feeder.
Oh, well. I am so thankful to have found the Yep software. It really saved the day. It has an odd interface, but it is actually a pretty neat piece of software. It took me a bit to figure it out, but once I did, it is great. Once in a while I have to power my device off and on to get Yep to recognize the scanner. If you have any challenges figuring out how to make Yep do what you want it to do, feel free to email me at [email protected]

  • Cisco ASA 5505 SSL VPN

    Hi Everyone,
In my study home lab, I wanted to configure a cisco ASA 5505 ( Base license) to allow SSL VPN. I follow carefully the configuration procedure as instructed on a short videos I downloaded on youtube.
I configured my outside e0/0 with a valid static IP address, unfortunately the vpn connection is timeout on a remote ( different) internet connection. But if  I connect to my own internet line using a WIFI the VPN ( AnyConnect SSL VPN client ) connection is established.
I need help to solve this mystery. Please find attached the ASA config: #show run
I hope my explaination does make sense, if not accept my apology I am just new in cisco technology.
    Best regards,
    BEN

If you can connect with your own internet line, then most probably it's not an issue with the ASA configuration.
I would check how you are routing the ASA to the internet, and if there is any ACL that might be blocking inbound access to the ASA on the device in front of the ASA.

  • G5 to mini dvi

Just purchased a 27" apple cinema display for an older G5.  Was told I also needed "Dr Bott Digital Video Link" adapter to convert mini dvi to the standard dvi...  will not work... anyone have any luck with similar issue?

Are you talking a G5 tower, or a G5 iMac?  The G5 towers used standard DVI, and sometimes dual-link DVI, but never mini-DVI.  As for the 27" Cinema Display, are you talking the one just released with Thunderbolt technology?

  • I am going to buy a new external hard drive and have some questions first

Although I asked this question several years ago, I would like to ask it again, just if in case technology in general or external hard drives in particular have changed in any significant ways.
I need to replace a 1 terabyte LaCie external hard drive that died on me after a few years.
    1. I am afraid of buying another LaCie. What other brands are reliable? I heard that Western Digital is. Also another brand beginnibg with S (so helpful, I know).
    2. Do I have to look for a drive that is MAC FORMATTED? I vaguely recall this term from years ago. I also remember another term that I was to look out for, but I don't remember what it was. Something like ”chronicled“ but obviously not that.
    3. Should I get more than 1 terabyte? Right now I have an old, old 125 gigabyte LaCie that still lives, but it is so small that it is almost nothing
    4. What do you think about buying external hard drives fron Costco as opposed to from the Apple Store?
    ~L

Ziatron, you wrote ”All you do is open the enclosure and the hard drive plugs in. (done.)“ What enclosure?
This is the enclosure I like, it needs a hard drive to work : http://www.cooldrives.com/ox93saiihadr.html
    But there are many others.
looking at my two dead laCie ext. hard drives and they don't have ”enclosures.“ Just holes in the back to receive the cables.
A hard drive enclosure is a box or case the actual hard drive goes into. Look at the images in the link above. You can see what is inside.
This hard drive goes inside the above cool drive enclosure: http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Intellipower-Desktop-WD20EADS/dp/B001RB1TI S/ref=sr11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258862242&sr=8-1
You recommended getting a hard drive with a Firewire connection, but most of the hard drives have USB.
Well maybe, the better drives are Firewire.
    Should that matter to me?
Yes, Firewire is "isochronous", basically meaning that you can pump "clocked" data though it in real time. USB works more like TCPIP, with the data chopped up into packets and later reassembled. (Thus, at a minimum, you have latency, that is, the wait for the data to be "put back together".) Second, the Firewire protocol allows more direct address to memory (including mass storage) with minimal intervention of the CPU.
Is USB a whole lot slower than Firewire if I am transferring materials?
Firewire is faster and _more reliable._
Take a look at the link below, "Build Your Own External Hard Drive". The enclosure I like is easier to use.
    http://www.harmony-central.com/articles/tips/hard_drive/
    http://macs.about.com/od/diyguidesprojects/ss/externalhdcase.htm
Also you need a Mac Pro to use eSATA, with a iMac use the Firewire port.

  • Questions on new XServe

    Apologies for the lengthy post.
We're looking to update an older dual G5 XServe to a new Nehalem model. Our current server handles file sharing (AFP & SMB) and is our OD Master (we have 5 other XServes). It's connected via Fibre to an XServe Raid configured with 4 active drives (250 GB each) and a standby backup drive. It total we have @ 700 GB of usable storage. We have a cloned system drive in the machine, and another offsite. We also have extensive Firewire data backups, including offsite.
We're looking to replace this with a Dual Quad core machine but I'm still mulling over configurations. As the XServe RAID has been removed from the support list, I'm considering removing it from the equation and perhaps just use it for some non critical archiving. It has been wonderfully reliable in the 5 odd years we've had it.
For the new server I was thinking 3x 1TB drives (& Raid Card) which I suspect would give @ 2TB of storage (more than enough for us - the 700 GB is already adequate but if we're going to upgrade we may as well expand a bit as well).
    And now for the questions...
Would I be correct in assuming I could expect similar/better performance from the new drives as opposed to the old XServe RAID? Will the G5 XServe's Fibre Card fit the new XServe?
Are the Solid State Drives user swappable? I was thinking perhaps a second SS drive with a cloned system as a backup.
Can a boot partition be setup on this RAID setup as a backup to the Solid State Drive? What's the general feeling with regards SS Drives? Are they worth considering or should I just stick to 'conventional' technology?
Will these XServes boot OK from a firewire device?
Any advice, suggestions or personal experiences would be appreciated.
    many thanks

Would I be correct in assuming I could expect similar/better performance from the new drives as opposed to the old XServe RAID?
Comparable direct-attached storage (DAS) disk storage tends to be faster than SAN storage, yes.
And you can connect DAS via SAS or SAS RAID PCIe controller, an older PCI-X controller, or via FireWire or USB buses. PCIe disk interconnects will be the fastest path, and USB the slowest.
Here, I'd tend to consider the Apple RAID controller or a PCIe RAID controller if I needed extra bays.
Will the G5 XServe's Fibre Card fit the new XServe?
I don't know. That probably depends on the card, but it's certainly worth a try. Ensure you have the right slot in the new box; you've probably got a PCI-X FC SAN card here, and you'd thus need a PCI-X riser on the new box. Or punt and get a newer PCIe FC SAN card. Put another way, I'd ask Apple to confirm your particular card will work when carried forward, or wait for another responder here.
Are the Solid State Drives user swappable? I was thinking perhaps a second SS drive with a cloned system as a backup.
The Xserve drive bays are user swappable.
Do you need SSD? If you're on your current box and are not already I/O bound, I'd guess not. And the newer HDD drives are faster, too.
Can a boot partition be setup on this RAID setup as a backup to the Solid State Drive? What's the general feeling with regards SS Drives? Are they worth considering or should I just stick to 'conventional' technology?
There is flexibility in what you boot your Xserve box off of, yes.
I've been using SSD off and on for around twenty years in its various incarnations. Back when there was battery-backed DSSI drives (don't ask) and SCSI-1 RAM-based SSD gear.
Whether SSD is appropriate really depends on what you need for I/O rates. An SSD is one piece of a puzzle of gaining faster I/O, and some of the other available pieces can be faster disks, striping (RAID-0), faster controllers, or faster controllers with bigger caches, or more and larger host caches. If your applications are disk-bound, definitely consider it. But if you're not being limited by the disk I/O speeds for your box, then SSD doesn't (usually) make as much sense.
(There are other cases where SSD can be appropriate. SSD is more tolerant of getting bounced around than HDD, which is why you see it in laptops and in rough-service and mil-spec environments such as aircraft-mounted computer servers. With an HDD, one good head-slap can ruin your whole day. But I digress.)
Will these XServes boot OK from a firewire device?
AFAIK, yes. I haven't had to do that, but that's been a longstanding feature of Xserve boxes.
Any advice, suggestions or personal experiences would be appreciated.
I'd relax; the Nehalem-class processors are screaming-fast boxes, and with massively better I/O paths than Intel has had available before.
Ensure your LAN is Gigabit Ethernet or IEEE 802.11n 5 GHz dual-slot, too. Upgrade from any existing 100 Mb LAN and from pre-n WiFi networking.

  • Magic Mouse Can't connect to my Macbook Air mid 2013

    Hello,
    Can anyone help me please?
Well, I have Macbook Air 13 inch Mid 2013 and it is connected to the internet by thunderbolt to Ethernet cable, i have also iphone 6 plus and i'm sharing internet from my macbook, however, recent days it does not connect, i mean, when i'm sharing internet my magic mouse connects to the macbook and disconnects after 2-3 seconds. i tried to repair the  the disc from disk utilities, it started to work properly and then it stopped.  Now when i closed my wi-fi, magic mouse started working properly. when i open it and started internet sharing, it is closing...  Please help if you can )))

Since Bluetooth and wifi is on the same 2.4Ghz frequency, using both at the same time, with the wifi chip constantly on (when creating a wifi network)(whereas when using the wifi as a receiver, the wifi chip isn't stressed much), causes interference. It is "normal". It's just that the Bluetooth technology is not very smart. This issue was already seen 16 years ago, when bluetooth got introduced.

  • Help! Installed new RAM and now screen isn't coming on!

    Hi
I'm in a bit of a mess and would be grateful for any help with this one:
I have a Powerbook G3 500mhz Pismo that currently has a 512mb card in the top slot (Kingston PB100/512) that I installed about two years ago with no problems and an original 128mb in the bottom. At Christmas I bought another 512mb for the bottom slot – (Kingston KTA-PBG4/512 - This one is smaller than the first but it was the one reccomended by Kingston on their website for the Pismo).
I have just got round to installing it after backing up my system and I have good instructions on how to do it (I have replaced the HD two years previous with no problems)
Firstly I have to mention that just before I changed the RAM the laptop fell from a small stool (about 1.5feet high) onto carpet due to the unbalancing effect of taking out the battery/CD ROM. It landed on its edge where the power socket is. I immediately put it back together and turned it on to make sure it was ok - it came on fine and there were no problems visually, mechanically or otherwise, so I carried on with the installation.
I installed the new 512mb card in the bottom slot and re-assembled but when I turned it on the screen remained black! From the computer itself, however, it sounded as if it had started up ok – there was the chime and the familiar sound of the hard drive at start up.
To troubleshoot I removed the new RAM card and put back the old RAM as it was – this made no difference. I checked to see if the processor board was firmly in place or if I had dislodged any connectors by mistake within the area that I had worked but this made no difference. I also tried to re-set the parameter RAM and this made no difference.
Because the laptop took a small knock prior to installation, I am not sure if that has caused something to come loose or damage of some kind but as I mentioned I did test it immediately and it worked, so it’s either a delayed reaction or the new RAM card has caused it. – (As mentioned there is a difference between the two 512 cards in both name and size but the smaller size of the newer one I assume just reflects advancement in technology and it was reccomended by Kingston!)
If anybody has any advice on this I would be very grateful (and also, if anybody can point me in the direction of instructions on how to take the pismo apart to get to the connections to the screen that would be great – in case I have to do it)
    Many Thanks Barry
    PowerBook G3500mhz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    SpottyFox,
It sounds like you are properly seating the CPU card from your description, so I don't believe that is your problem. I am glad you checked the pins (I should have mentioned that as the next step if the reseating did not help). I cannot answer whether anything was damaged from your description of the pins; I have read where others have realigned bent pins with success so maybe your mileage will vary.
Start up your Pismo, then shine a flashlight directly into the display; if you can see data being written to the display, just the backlight is refusing to light. If this is the case, check the inverter board connections. The inverter is under the clutch cover and powers the fluorescent backlight in the display. Enlarge the bottom picture in this link to see the inverter:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G3-Pismo/Inverter-Page-10-Inverter
Check connections at each end of the inverter. Disassembly is not as extensive as this guide suggests. Support the back of the display, then remove the main battery, optical drive, lay the keyboard on its face on the palm rest, heat shield, and clutch cover...that's it.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/6.0.0.html
You might also connect the Pismo to an external display; failure here would suggest a more serious problem.

  • Subreports w/ CR10 only don't show when main report has more than 1 record

I use use Delphi7 and VCL CR10 to display report of 1 master table having 2 detail tables. The database is Interbase so I just use the TTX technology. I design a report to print master record at Detail A,  and insert 2 subreports to print details records at Detail B & Detail C, and arrange the subreport links succesfullly. I make Detail C "New Page After" and put a Page Footer section to display some info of master record. I hope I can see a report w/ 1 master record followed by details records in one page.
I managed to pass data from Delphi to CR10 by assigning TCrpeDS.DataPointer of each table to TCrpe.Tables[x].DataPointer (after arranging TCrpe.Subreports[x], where x: 0..2). The report works well if I only print 1 record of master table. When I supply 2 or more record of master table w/ corresponding records of the 2 detal tables, then only the first page will print well, the following pages won't print Detail B & Detail C (can't show data of detail tables).
I try to detect the problem by changing the Record Selection Formula of each subreport to "true or <link condition>". Then again only the first page will print "all" details records (the "true or .." works), other pages will only print Detail A.
Please help me w/ this issue. I thank you in advance.
