Just curiosity: Format Style Styles...

Hi
I've never fathomed this out, partly because I've only used mail for... mail so haven't felt the need. However, I'm currently attempting to develop an efficient task management activity (a GTD system for those familiar), so am using the To Do's and Notes aspects of Mail (and Spaces) in a serious way now and it's proving really good.
For some reason the To-do's in Notes loose text formatting on a (seemingly at the moment) random basis and if I could create a style to apply it would make this just less irritating until I see the pattern and figure out what's prompting the format loss. I format them to be larger... just for easier reading.
So menu: Format > Style > Styles... brings up a promising but completely obscure (to me) dialogue. *+How does one use the Styles... dialogue?+* Any amount of intuitive attempts, ie: copying and pasting, or clicking seems to yield exactly zilch. I seem unable to either modify or apply these styles. If you know of a resource where it's explained, please point me to it. (I've checked the Mail 'help').
Thanks

Second time I've kind of resolved my own problem...
The dialogue I'm referring to above (the one that reveals itself 'within' whichever window is in focus) is still a complete mystery to me.
However, I've achieved what I needed to. Select a small section of text styled the way one wants it (Font, bold, size etc.,). Then Apple Mail -> Format -> Text.
In the resulting dialogue click on the little cog (bottom left) and choose 'Add to Favorites'. Be ready for Mail to crash. However, on rebooting mail, the style will (presuming it behaves as it did for me) be listed as a favorite in the Format -> Text dialogue. Finally, select the text to format and choose Format-> Text -> Favorites -> Thestylecreated and hey-presto, jobs a good-un...... except for the small detail that the line spacing seems tighter as though it's not picked up...
Hope it helps anyone else.
I'm still intrigued about the other dialogue... is it specifically only showing/dealing with the styles in the window it appears in? I'll test it when I can be bothered or the opportunity presents itself.
Have a good day.

  • Mac mail/creating new format style

    Hi all,
I sometimes send emails with a good amount of copy ( I have my compose preference set to RTF). I notice that the default format style for macmail is Left aligned, Spacing 1.0x. (no leading or 'set solid'). I'd like to create a new 'favorite style' that includes the basic type 'Geneva' and flush left alignment but with more leading, maybe '2.0' so that the copy is more readable. I go to the menu Format-->Style-->Styles. A styles info box comes up:
Can anyone tell me how to create a new format style with greater leading than the
default style then add it to favorites? Will a person who receives my email who is using a different email client necessarily receive the formatting I am sending?
I hope I'm not missing something obvious. lol.
Also, if anyone knows the html code that would center my image in this email, please pass that along as well. I tried the <center> tags but they didn't work.
Thanks in advance for any input.
    Regards,
    Dennis

Replying to myself to add some more information, and ask some additional questions:
Poking around, I have found some information -- a few years old, unfortunately -- that seems to indicate that you cannot create aliases to associate with a mac.com account. What I may have to do is add an address in the primary account, in the Email Address field of the Account Information tab, where she currently has this:
    [email protected], [email protected]
If that works, that'll be great, but one flaw in this method is that you can't specify a different sender name. Her customers at "herdomain.com" will still just see her name, Jane Doe, when what she really wants in the sender field for that e-mail address is "Jane Doe, Director, Her Domain Inc."
Can anyone verify if I am finally understanding this correctly? Or if there is something else I can do to get her that alternate identity on her mac.com account?
    Thanks.

  • How to copy the bullet point format/style from MS Word to Pages?

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to make the swap from Mac Word to Pages but the one thing that frustrates me so much to the point of not using Pages is the bullet point system.
In Word the set spacings are exactly how I want them - whereas in Pages, everything is tighter - there is less space between the margin and the point, the point and the text etc.
I've painstakingly inserted all the spacings from Word into Pages and saved it as a "style" but it just reverts back to the default positioning when I open up a new document and select my saved style.
Any ideas / a magic tool to just copy the style from Word? It's such a shame because Pages is a much slicker programme than Word and I really want to use it but as a student, bullet points are my world.
    Thanks,
    James

Hi Peter, thanks for your reply.
Yeah I get the font and formatting for the text copied no problem when copying but I'm talking about from scratch in a new document, I insert a bullet point and even when selecting my saved style, it just reverts back to the default.
I agree, massive pain. It is the only thing stopping me from making the full switch now iCloud Drive is getting close to Dropbox.
Am I a misguided fool for thinking there's a patch or modification of some description that can copy the default bullet spacings from Word and create a new style following them in Pages?
    Thanks, James

  • Just Re-formatted computer and reinstalled Windows XP; problems

Hey everyone, I just re-formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows XP, but I can't seem to connect to FIOS. I have the modem sitting on my desk next to me, and all the other computers in the house are connected to it by wire just fine, but when I replugged my wire back into my computer, nothing happened. I tried making a new internet connection, but it wouldn't let me do that for FIOS. The only thing I see under Network Connections is a 1394 connection, and it say Connected, Firewalled. I do not recall getting a CD or anything from the FIOS guy who installed it in our house a while back, so I have no clue what to do. Can someone please help?

I went to the dell website and put in dimension 8400. They do have the driver there.
    http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_...=
It under network and is listed as "broadcom driver". Broadcom, Intel, Marvell are three companies that make network adapters. Since Broadcom driver is listed under network on the dell webpage I would assume that your machine has a broadcom network adapter. I would install that and see what happens.

  • Hi guys, i just re-formatted my computer and once i rebooted my iMac my lightroom, inddesign, and PS are gone. I am currently a Creative Cloud member... how do i re-download my needed software ?

hi guys, i just re-formatted my computer and once i rebooted my iMac my lightroom, inddesign, and PS are gone. I am currently a Creative Cloud member... how do i re-download my needed software ?

    Hi Josh,
If you have your Adobe ID and password ready for your Creative Cloud membership, visit the following page.
Creative Cloud Help | Install, update, or uninstall apps
I generally suggest people FIRST install the Creative Cloud Desktop Application. This is mainly because you then have the option to check and set the installer language prior to installing the applications you want to use again on your system.
Once you have installed the Creative Cloud Desktop app:
Click on the gear icon in the top right.
    Choose preferences.
Click Apps, and set the Installer language. If you happen to live in Australia, you might find that the default installer language is set to English (North American), to English (International English) this would ensure that an application such as InDesign installs with default metric-units of measurements, UK dictionary etc. (instead of inches, US english).
Once that is set, you can click 'Install' next to any applications you'd like to install.
    Good luck.

  • Formatting styles?

How do I change formatting of a whole style in iCloud Pages? Let's say I want the font of all the "Body" Paragraph style to be bigger. How do I do that  please? Do I have to select the text or what? Thank you!

Does Anyone knows when will this basic feature will be implemented? There´s no point in using pages for OSX if I cannot use it in sync with my devices! This online version is doing just OK for now, but functionality so far is VERY limited, does anybody has a workaround or something?

  • Text Format/Style/Spacing options

I am still working in iWork '09 to give Apple a chance to deal with the bugs and dropped features in the 2013 release. I'm giving the new Pages a test run now to see if it is ready for prime time.
I noticed a Lines popdown menu in the Spacing pane of the Style tab of the text Format inspector.  The options (Lines / At Least / Exactly / Between) seem non-standard. Is there any documentation on them? I couldn't find anything in Pages Help.
    Related questions, perhaps:
Apple seems to have revised its image placement options in new Pages. I presume this to make export to ePUB easier/more consistent/whatever, but that's guesswork on my part. Does anyone know of any paper where the features of the latest iWork releases are discussed, especially as concerns eBook production?
    Thanks in advance,

Lines is multiples of the largest object, character on the line of text. It is useful for varying size objects such as inline images, tables, textboxes and shapes. It can make individual line spacing vary within a paragraph.
At Least does what it says, sets a minimum line space but can go larger if required.
Exactly sets a fixed line space that does not change no matter what the size of anything on the line. This spaces a paragraph uniformly.
Between is the standard single spacing between lines plus or minus what you set here.

  • How can I print a free format style report that is 3 pages long

You may say this would be like a letter format (no columns), but is actually a formatted document. It is on 3 pages. I was instructed by a Oracle reports teacher to place on multiple frames with page protect to fix my problem of text for one line of text to appear on two pages. I tried this, but it did not work.
I've had to specify 3 panels to accommodate for the 3 pages of text. I've made the frames vertically expandable for varied body of text.
    Thanks ahead of time,
    Jeannie

    hi ,
see if this can solve your problem
in reports 6, in the object navigator...u have three sections within the Layout Model...viz ... Header Section, Main Section and the Trailer Section. u just need to go to the properties of the Main Section and set the Verticals panels per page property to the desired number of pages across which u wanna span ur record. and put in the corresponding frames and fields within them

  • Mail Format Style Styles

Is anyone besides me mystified by some of the behavior of the Styles dialog box in Mail? It looks the same as the one in TextEdit, but I can't scroll through the styles in an email, as I can scroll through the styles in a TextEdit document. "Select" doesn't seem to work, in that I can't get any styled text in an email to highlight after selecting a corresponding style from the Favorites pop-up menu. Choices such as "Select by ruler" seem meaningless in Mail.
For that matter, this feature in TextEdit seems buggy, in that "Select by font family"/"Select by font"/"Select by style"/"Select by ruler" don't always work as expected.
For example, I can compose a TextEdit document with many different fonts, font families, rulers, etc., then select/deselect the selection choices, and check what's highlighted. If I select "Bold" as a style, then only check "Select by style" I would expect all bold styled text in the document to be highlighted, regardless of font or ruler. Doesn't happen...only one bold font is selected, not all bold fonts. Similar things happen if I check/uncheck the other choices. Anyone else have these problems?

You can add styles via TextEdit. The stylesheet is shared betwen TextEdit and Mail, I think, so that a style you added in TextEdit is selectable from Mail when you right-click selected text and choose Font > Styles....

  • Interactive Report - Break formatting style

    Hi All,
Is there a way to make Interactive reports break format work/look like classic reports break format? i.e.1st,2nd,3rd column option. The way IR breaks is that is reserves a whole row for the column used in the break, which is not what I want, I want the report to look like the following:
    city               emp           sal
    Chicago     John Miller  1500
                     Mark Horton 2000
    Denver       Rob Martino 1200
I tried to use rollup queries which work fine except that it does not do exactly what I want when I sort columns through the front end , I am basically displaying a check box for grouped records ( and I want it to display at the first record of each group), so the order is important. for example:
    checkbox   City               emp           sal
    [ ]               Chicago     John Miller    1500
                                      Mark Horton  2000
    [ ]              Denver       Rob Martino  1200
    Thanks,
    Sam

would someone please confirm if this is doable/undoable at least? I've spend a lot of time exploring possible options (none worked) and it would really help if someone can help me saving some time.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Different formatting style on same line

I'm trying to format my headlines according to APA, which specifies that the fifth headline-level should look like this:
    Title. Ipsum Lorem...
But when I try to format the "Title" as a headline the text ("Ipsum Lorem") also changes accordingly. Is there a way to prevent this?
If you don't understand my question, please say so and I'll try to be more specific.

  • Add-dayTimeDuration-to-dateTime not working just before format-dateTime

    Hi,
I am using format-DateTime function just after add-dayTimeDuration-to-dateTime function in XSLT mapping.
But the response coming doesnot providing the result of add-dayTimeDuration-to-dateTime function.
When I use both the functions individually then both works fine.
Please let me know any solution for this.
    Thanks

    Hi Arpit,
Can you try converting the output of add-dayTimeDuration-to-dateTime to string, before passing it to format-DateTime.
Also can you post your piece of xslt that you are trying to work out with an example.
Please do mention what exactly you are trying to do.
I have tried this and its working fine.
    <xsl:value-of select="xp20:format-dateTime(string(xp20:add-dayTimeDuration-to-dateTime(xp20:current-dateTime(),'PT15S')),'[D01]/[M01]/[Y0001]')"/>
Please let me know if this helps.
    Thanks,
    Deepak.

  • Create a new Font style format in pages

I have looked very hard in pages and I cant seem to find a setting to change the default fonts and settings. I have just created a document with the settings I want and I saved it as a dummy that I just duplicate when I want to work with pages. Is there a way to create a new font style format so that you can just choose that style and get your settings? I just don't see how its possible that there is not a way to edit the default settings in pages...

  • Questions about using Styles Window for formatting a book in Apple Works.

Help says "You can create your own styles in any document type." Not clear on how to do that.
I wish to have one Style or group of Styles associated with one document of say 500 pages for a book. Each chapter Heading. as a single column layout, is separated by Section Breaks from previous and following text in 2 column layout.
Question 1. How do I make Styles window settings (Edit/Done) specific for this entire document? Can I edit settings in Styles window and have them remain specific and locked to this particular document? Or are the Styles window settings constant across all documents?
Question 2. (If Styles window settings are not specific and locked to this document) Do I need to make a NEW Style for each purpose within the document, as in Book Heading, Book Subheading, Book Body, Book special paragraph style, and etc.
Question 3. When importing multiple sections of the work (by copy and paste) from other AW documents how can I have the imported text follow the book’s Style settings (and vice versa how to keep tab settings that are specific in some areas). Sometimes the imported work refuses to conform to the Book document’s style say line spacing for instance.
    Thank you

    iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8) AppleWorks 6.2.9

    Hi Hilary,
I haven't used styles enough to give definitive answers to your questions, but I'm sure others will join in and correct any errors in what follows.
A "Style" is essentially a set of paragraph level format settings that can be collectively applied to a paragraph or contiguous set of paragraphs as a set, rather than having to apply each attribute individually. Once a style is applied to various parts of a document, changes made to the style specification will apply to every part of the document to which that style has been applied.
AppleWorks also includes two other types of Styles—Outline styles (Diamond, Harvard and Legal), used to identify hierarchical levels of paragraphs, and Table styles, used to format tables.
Question 1: From the Help article "Using Styles":
You can copy the collection of all the styles available in a document and make them available in another document. This is called exporting and importing a stylesheet.
I read this as saying that styles you create are specific to the document in which they are created, but may be exported to other documents. "Other documents" would includes documents saved as templates, which could be used to create the various sections of a book.
    Question 2:
As the set of styles is specific to the document it is created in (or into which it is imported), you can probably leave "Book " off the names of the styles (but may decide that leaving it on makes it easier to know what the styles are for). You will need to use an existing style or create a new one for each purpose within the document.
    Question 3:
Copy copies the text AND formatting of the selected material.
Paste pastes the text AND formatting of the selected material.
Paste also inserts the pasted material into the target document at the insertion point. All of the pasted material goes into the same Section. If the pasted material includes a section break, then a new section will be created in the target document.
If you export the set of styles from the master document and apply them to the parts of the source document before transferring the material to the master document, I suspect the formatting will be carried over.
Another possibility is to leave the source document with no formatting at all beyond paragraph breaks, and to apply the formatting (styles) after transferring the text.

    Barry

  • [svn] 3148: You can now use CSS styles to set the default text format for TextView.

    Author: [email protected]
    Date: 2008-09-08 15:01:15 -0700 (Mon, 08 Sep 2008)
    Log Message:
You can now use CSS styles to set the default text format for TextView. It no longer has any formatting properties. It supports the entire set of Gumbo text format styles.
SkinnableComponent and Group now also support all these styles. However, skins such as ButtonSkin, TextInputSkin, and TextAreaSkin continue for now to specify instance styles on their TextBox, TextGraphic, and TextView, in order to give them a Gumbo look rather than a Halo look. So if you try setting, for example, the fontSize on the Application, it doesn't yet affect the text format of a Button, TextInput, TextArea, etc. unless you remove the instance style in the skin.
