Just Installed-now internet is slow

I just upgraded my OS X from Panther to Tiger last night. My internet is extemely slow now. Is this a known issue with Tiger upgrades?( or maybe my provider network is just slow right now). I am using 10.4.3. Is there another upgrade from this version?

Is this a known issue with Tiger upgrades?
Some people have had problems. I haven't. In fact, I've seen a speed increase. Do a search in these forums for slow internet or internet problems and see what pops up.
Is there another upgrade from this version?
There have been two: 10.4.4 and 10.4.5. I suggest upgrading, following the steps outlined in Software Update: Installing software updates at http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/faqs.html.

  • Disconnected everything and now internet is slow

I had to disconnect my imac becuase i was getting carpet installed. So I connect everything and hook it back up, and now the internet is slow and laggy. youtube vids take about 5 times as long to load as they used to, i can't preview songs in itunes without rebuffing every 2 seconds, and now i can't connect to the internet with my wii or psp (used airport for wireless connection). If all I did was disconnect it how would that slow down my internet.
Info: use PPoE to connect to internet, have sbc yahoo dsl or att (i'm not sure since they merged, but my bill says att),
    Thanks all.

as a follow up i took a speed test on speedtest.net and here are my results. Avg download is about 520kb/s, and my avg upload is about 630kb/s my ping avg is 32ms, and my distance is about 50 miles from the server. If i shared the these test results when i call my isp, again i have sbc yahoo dsl, would this help out my case??

ff4 downloaded yesterday, all ok. Turned on today and internet will not work. Also not working; sound, keyboard, Avast, help and support and most important System restore!

    Hi Barry,
I have Office 2004 Version 11.5.5. I can open some files, but others not. When I double click on them, they flash like they are about to open, but then they just sit there. I offloaded some of these non-opening files with my thumbdrive and put them on my wife's iMac. (She hasn't installed Snow Leopard yet.) They open just fine there. So the files are okay. The only difference seems to be the operating systems. Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • New hd just installed now can't see my externals on my desktop

My drive failed yesterday and I took it to the apple store to have my internal hd replaced. My desktop is not showing any of my external hd's. I know it's an easy fix but can't remember how to get them to show up all the time. When I go to disk utility it does show they are connected. When I go to finder to search they show up in the finder. Any help would be appreciated.

Hard drives don't show up in the desktop by default. To show them, open Finder, go to Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > General, and mark "External drives"

  • Just installed new Time Capsule, wifi now very slow, what amI doing wrong?

Just installed new Time Capsule, wifi now very slow, what am I doing wrong?

It's possible the reason it seems so slow, is that a backup might be in progress - and since it's the first backup everything on the disk is something that Time Machine is backing up and is being transferred across the WiFi at the same time as you're trying to use your Internet. So you're competing with Time Machine data flying across your WiFi along with your internet stuff. So if this is indeed what is happening (look at Time Machine to see if a backup is in progress), either pause the backup to a more convienent time or live with the slowness till the backup is done this first time, and after that you probably will not notice the "competition" on your WiFi. I like to schedule the Time Machine backups to late at night rather than once an hour (the default), but that schedule should be whatever you feel most comfortable with.
There is a handy free utility called "TimeMachine Editor" that you can get from http://timesoftware.free.fr/timemachineeditor/ that lets you create your own customized backup schedule. You can create several schedules to fit your working conditions. I've used it for several years with never a problem. I don't have anything to do with the company - just a happy user.
    Good luck...

Didn't want to make you feel like an Idiot. Just pointing otu that most all externals come, these days, formatted NTFS as the world runs on Windows computers and at least the last 2 Win OS version will only install and likes to use NTFS formatted drives. So most drive manufacturers Pre-Format their drive in that format.
What do you mean "I'm Cloning Time Now"? I don't get the TIME reference?
You Clone the install of OS X from a working Mac to the External. The Cloning willl make that external Bootable (It will boot on like Mac computers).
Then when that is done disconnect that external and connect it to your Mac. Start your Mac and it should boot off that external. If it doesn't then Restart and hold down the Option key and select the external as the boot drive.
Once the your Mac starts from the external the cloning program should already by running as it was running whenn the clone was made. Select the external as the source and your internal as the destination. you may want to shut the cloning program down and first use Disk Utility to Re-Partition your drive as One Partition.
Hopefully that will get rid of the encryption you enabled and give you a clean freshly formatted drive to clone to.
Then start up the cloniing software and do as pointed out above.

  • I just installed Lion and the newest version of Logic express 9 (9.1.5) and every time i playback audio I get this error message:  [Disk is too slow or System Overload. (-10010) . Never had any issues before now...

I just installed OSX Lion (10.7.2) and updated to the newest version of Logic express (9.1.5) on a macbook and every time I playback audio I get this error message:  [Disk is too slow or System Overload. (-10010) The Sudden Motion Sensor may have parked the hard drive head, or the disk performance is not sufficient to read or write all audio tracks, or the system was not able to process all data in time]
Never had any issues before now... any ideas?

Have a look into the Preferences folder (YourUserFolder/Libraries/Preferences/) and trash all Logic preferences.
You'll have to setup the program again.
    cheers

USB2.0 PCI cards that use the NEC chipset seem to give the least amount of problems for Mac users.
OWC have a few different ones for sale.

Do you also connect the external USB drive to the AC power as well while you use it ?
Sometimes USB external drive problems are resolved simply by plugging them into the mains power and trying again.

  • HT4623 Just installed io7, now I cannot get Netflix  to be full screen. Also ipad start up etc seems a lot slower.

Just installed ios7 on ipad 3. Now cannot get netflix to be full screen. Also start up of ipad is suddenly slow.

I don't use netflix yet on mine but the slow startup I might be able to help. I just restarted mine and in maybe 5 seconds is restarted.
If you have a lot of programs running in the background that may be causing the slow start or shutdown. To close those running programs, 4 finger upto get to the running programs and to close them, tap one and hold for a second and flip upwards,, it will go off the top of the screen, closing it. Do this with all that you want closed, there will only be the main screen you can't close that will be left.
I also shut off location services, Bluetooth and under safari there a use data option which for some reason turned on but I could have clicked yes somewhere and those got turned on, but I turned them off since I don't need them on.
    Then try a restart.

  • HT1222 I just installed this update and now I cannot access "Mail" at all.  I tried reinstalling the program, but that does not work, either.  Help!!!!!!

I just installed this update and now I cannot access "Mail" at all.  I tried reinstalling the program, but that does not work, either.  Help!

Paldeng, thanks for the suggestion.  I've done all that.  I can connect to the server, but apparently they are not recognizing my ID and password.  I can use the server program if I don't go through Mail (using the same ID and password).  My mother in another state with another provider has had the same email issue, as also my husband on his laptop who uses the same internet connection I do.  His worked fine until we had it repaired at the Apple store and all the original programs reloaded (with the required updates, I assume).  We can receive email in Mail, we just cannot send.
I contacted my service provider, and we went over my connections.  They said it was not their problem and connected me with Apple, resulting in a charge to me because my warranty is long expired.  Apple swears it is not their problem, it is the provider, so here I sit.  My son was able to fix my Mom's Mail (she's 97) and got my husband's working also, until mine went out, by tweaking connection descriptions and ports remotely.  The thing is, we had not messed with any of those settings, so what changed?  I just did not want to bother my son again, as he has many other demands on his time.
Since this fiasco with the Mail v4.6 update, I'm wondering if something else was updated that works well with Lion and Mountain Lion, but does not work well with Snow Leopard and Leopard.  I think the problem I had with the Mail update was that my Mail program had been renamed to Mail (original), and therefore was not being recognized by the update.  Perhaps they had another tweak in there somewhere that is affecting outgoing mail connections?

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 Combo Update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    Alternatively, see:

  • HT5730 After I installed 10.8.48.4 Internet browsing slowed down to the pace of a dial-up connection.  How can I get back to normal operating speed?

After I installed 10.8.4, my Internet browsing slowed down to the pace of a dial-up connection -- unless it froze up completely.  How do I get my system back to a normal operating mode?  Can I dump 10.8.4 and go back to the one that at least worked?

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them.
    1. Have you restarted your router and broadband modem since you first noticed the problem? If the answer is no, do that now and see whether there's any change.
    2. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they also slow?
    3. What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
    4. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they also slow?
    5. If you can test Safari on another network, is it slow there too?
    6. If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Just installed Acrobat, now Firefox won't open PDFs

    Hi,
I just installed Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard on my computer (running Windows 7).  Now, if I click a link to a PDF in Firefox, it doesn't open.  A new tab opens, as before, but then I get an error message telling me to close my pdf reader and my browser.  I've tried this, it doesn't work.  I've tried restarting my computer, it doesn't work.  I've tried going into Task Manager and killing any task related to Mozilla or Firefox, then reopening Firefox and trying again, no luck.  I'm getting to my wit's end.
    What does work:
I can still save pdf files and open them with reader
I can still open pdfs using Internet Explorer
At some point during the process, it asked me if I wanted Acrobat 8 or Acrobat Reader 9 to open PDFs by default.  I don't know how to reaccess this option to see if changing it would help.  I'll gladly provide any more information neccessary.
    Thanks,
    Jackson C.

Just to add the specifics of the error message:
    Title: "Acrobat plug-in."
    Text:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.
Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again."
