This, above, is a UK set of notes.
Your iMac is made to operate on anything between 100 and 250v.  Indonesia is generally 220v so you will only need an adapter but beware; the power supply is not terribly reliable.    Out of interest, your iMac cannot be iOS 7.1.2.  Go to 'about this mac' and find the actual version number to enter in your profile.

I have no idea whether there is a causal relationship but since moving to Lion and iCloud, my iMac has become so unresponsive that I wind up having to crash and restart most of the time.  This is true regardless of the app I am using at the time.
The specs of this iMac are:
iMac 27 inch, late 2009 model with a 3.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 Gig 1067 Mhz DDR3, using OSX Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
I have Mackeeper installed and according to the scans I have run, everything is fine. No virus, no junk files . . . no problems at all . . .
Except that for all practical purposes, my computer isn't working.
I am nearly totally deaf and live in an isolated, rural area of NW Missouri and this computer is what I mainly rely on to contact friends, relatives and business associtates!
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than ten or so files or folders on your Desktop, move them, temporarily at least, somewhere else in your home folder.
If iCloud is enabled, disable it.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
    Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.

I want to purchase my husband an ipod for his birthday.  On this computer their are hundreds of songs of my daughters and my husbands.  How do I just put his music on the new ipod.

    Hello Becky,
You need to manually manage the music on his iPod. Manually managing your device allows you to choose just the songs and videos that you want to have with you.

  • Im getting a mac soon, and im deciding if i should get an imac or a macbook pro/air, i have an ipad though, so should i go with an imac because i need a real computer for school?

i need help deciding on whether an imac or a macbook, i have an ipad, but for school in need a computer, but i really dont need portability, but i like the portability, but i also like to sit down with a keyboard and a mouse in my hands, what should i do? assisstence is needed...

Have you been to an Apple Store?  Because the decision really comes down to one of personal preference.  It would be much easier to decide if you could experience your options in person.
I love the idea of being portable and when I can afford a MacBook I will get one.  Yet right now in my life, portability is not crucial so I decided to go with an iMac.  imo, the user experience is far better on an iMac compared to a MacBook, you just can't take it to Starbucks!
My iMac has become the single best, most amazing purchase I have made in my 35 years of roaming the planet, so unless portability is crucial I would recommend getting the iMac.

  • I want to get my parents setup with an imac and iPad.  They are elderly and we live in different countries.  I want to know what solution exists so I can be the remote administrator to maintain and keep them up and running .. I dont want anything fancy.

I would like to setup my eldery parents with an imac and ipad which I know will greatly help them in their daily life.  The technology they love to play with whenever I visit, but they can never keep anything running or sync'ed unless I am around.  Medical and other issues make this a real challenge for them.  Unfortunately, I live in a different country and see them maybe once per year.  I'm surrounded my apple products but never tried remote administration and wondered what I would need (software and hardware) to make this noble venture sucessful.  Anyone out there has some experience or recommendations?  I'm looking for something that is simple and reliable to implement ...

    JokerGirl,
This is Scott J, I work for Intel and wanted to try and help you out. Sorry to hear about your current PC and your knee!
I agree with the bigger screen. I have the Samsung ATIV Smart PC with a screen 11.6" which is great to watch shows/movies!  anything bigger is almost too big for a tablet (personal opinion).
Yes, most if not all tablets will have speakers and a headphone jack
    You can watch YouTube
Only certain models have keyboards, you will want to specify this when making a purchase. Note: most keyboards are sold separately.
Covers are usually pretty easy to come buy, as well as screen protectors (clear plastic that covers and protects your screen from scratches, etc.)
Depending on the Operating System (Windows, Android, etc.) you will have access to an app store where you can buy and download content. Alternatively you can access your favorite sites to read news, get books, magazines, etc.
Hooking things to your tablet - different tablets will have different ports (USB, HDMI, etc.) Question to ask prior to making a purchase as some do not have ports (iPad). Back to my Samsung, I have several ports and do hook it to my TV
Tablets can run anywhere from $150-$1,000.  The mid-range $400-$700 should fulfill all of your needs above and more!

  • With Ap3 do we still need Nik Plug-ins

I bought the Nik plug-ins mainly for noise reduction, viveza and selective sharpening. It seems like with brushes these plug-ins are now unnecessary and still will result in large tiff files once 64-bit compatible.
    Am I missing anything here?

I think they are "less necessary," but I don't think they are unnecessary. Certainly Silver FX and Color FX offer things you can't get directly within Aperture. The Nik sharpening is very good; probably better for output sharpening than what's built in to Aperture but it depends on what you are doing - if you're printing for sales and very critical you may still need it.
I rarely used the Nik noise reduction plug-in because I didn't want to convert my files to TIFF early in the workflow.

  • Moving onto a sailboat with my iMac 20.5"

I understand that Ill have to make a custom wall mount. I also understand that a notebook would make more sense on a boat. Unfortunately I need the power of the desktop for video editing and to also serve as my TV. Im wondering if theres anything in particular I should do to keep the computer running smooth. I have very nice brand new 12v batteries on the boat and will be running off of 110v shore power much more often than not. Please advise, thanks in advance.

Make sure its power is uninterrupted, Macs don't like hard shutdowns.

  • Having continuous issues with my iMac, all I want to do is perform a clean install... at my wit's end. Help please. :(

I apologize in advice if this story is discombobulated or more information is needed to provide me with an answer. I will do my best to provide as much details as possible, but this is a problem that has been occuring for the past few weeks and some things I've forgotten the specifics of.
I will start by explaining that my iMac specs are:
Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Version 10.6.8
I've owned this iMac since about April of 2010. I've never had any problems with it until recently. At one point in time, I had a Boot Camp partition made in order to install Windows, as I wanted to run some games that weren't available to Mac users. After awhile, I eventually bought a Windows Laptop for my gaming needs. When this happened, I decided to erase previously stated Boot Camp partition in order to free up more space on my hard drive.
After a few months, had major issues involving a trojan virus on my laptop, it destroyed my hard drive, and I wasn't able to buy a new one at that time. Recently decided to try and create a new Boot Camp partition to reinstall Windows. When I attempted that, (I apologize, I don't remember the specific error) it wouldn't allow me, and from what I remember after doing some google research, it sounded like somehow my hard drive had become disorganized, and needed to somehow be reorganized.
At some point in my google research I found that using the Repair function in Disk Utilities would possibly help. When I tried that, (the only reason I know this is because I tried just now to get the error to pop up) I'm given a message "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
So here I'm thinking, "okay! No big deal! I have the disk still, I will just back up my hard drive to an external hard drive". So I buy an external HDD, back up everything I need. I then put the disk in, and my optical drive spends some time thinking, then spits it back out. It does this repeatedly. I do some more google research, find that optical drives crapping out on mac users isn't all that uncommon. I try to clean it with a trick someone suggested. I then tilted my iMac to one side, it accepts a cd! I try it again, and I'm no longer able to trick my iMac into reading disks. Sad face.
Instead of hefting large sums of cash at Apple to replace my optical drive, I buy a far more affordable external cd/dvd drive that is working perfectly fine. So after waiting for that to be delivered, 3 days later, I'm excited to finally get a clean install with my OS X drive. At this point, I care little about repairing, and have decided to just completely clean install. I restart my iMac, boot from disk, and I get the spinny thing for about 20 minutes. I think, "hmm... should it take this long?" So I reboot and try again. Same thing. I then let it run overnight, and wake up to spinny thing. When my Mac is on, it reads the dvd just fine. It just won't boot from it and let me start the clean install.
So then I get the idea maybe I can do a remote install of the disk from my friend's macbook. No such luck, won't seem to recognize anything. Then I see that I can make a copy of the disk image to my computer, and burn that image to a partition made on my external HDD, so that I can boot from that. Well, the only info I could find was a gentleman burning a downloaded version of OSX Lion, but I figured, "hey, its the same thing, right?" I guess not. I tried copying the image using the restore function in Disk Utilities, and it does indeed show up when I hold Option at start up, but booting from it does not start up properly. It starts up like any normal time I restart. I'm thinking its cause the way I copied it didn't involve a .dmg file.
So I try to copy the image to a file on my computer, but when I do that, I get some sort of input/output error.
What can I do at this point? I thought I originally set up Time Machine but when I checked recently, no such luck. All I want is a fresh reboot of my Mac. I'm guessing somehow my hard drive became corrupted in some way. I mean, it truly doesn't seem to be affecting anything, except somehow even after deleting all known movie, music, game, etc. files, I still am using up 270 gb of space. Maybe I never un-did the Boot Camp partition properly and kinda screwed myself on this one.
I've tried just about everything. I never invested in Apple Care, but even had I done so, I think it would have exceeded the warranty, as I had thought it was 2 years. I could be wrong, either way, its water under the bridge now. I need to fix this myself. I'd still like to use my iMac for general use, and to utilize the 1 TB of storage it possesses.
Any help is greatly appreciated, sorry for the wall of text, its been a complicated few weeks. Thanks!

Whew... never buy an iMac or Laptop from Apple without the 3 year extended AppleCare... well 2 years extended... & I think they should be called on this, they should come with a 5 year Warranty, with more available if you want.
I think, "hmm... should it take this long?"
No way, Houston, we haave a problem, not sure what... RAM, Logic Board, etcd.
Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

  • Will you please just put it back to the former "operating" set up? Like have the + buttong for tabs, actually create a tab? Thanks!!!!

Used to be able to hit the + button and add a tab...absolutely nothing happens when the + is hit. Sure you are aware of this, and I'm not a programmer person...love firefox, but no idea how to fix this.

  • The + button or "open a new tab" does not correspond. I also tried with Ctrl+T but I can not open a new tab unless I click on a link in the existed tab. What can I do?

I have seen nothing relevant in options

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons
