JVM Error 517 - Can I back up my data?

My blackberry is stuck in the JVM 517 error loop and I desperately need to make a backup of my organizer data (particularly of my calendar, to do list and notes). Any suggestions on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated. I am unable to back up my data using Desktop Manager but I am able to use BBSAK to save all COD files (I have a curve 8310 and I was able to save 270 COD files totaling 26MB) but don’t know if this is helpful or not.  I was also able to retrieve the log of events just before the error loop started and in case this is of any help in solving the problem here it is:

  • Curve 9220 jvm error 517

    hi dears,
pls help me to solve this error my bb set hang with showing a messege - jvm error 517, how can i solve this?

    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • JVM Error 517 cause?

    Hey, quick question.
Yesterday after turning my phone on i got that JVM Error 517 message, after looking on here i found a solution to fix it (you brainy people!), turned out it had no software so its all fixed now, my question is what causes it? I was using my phone normally the same day, i never downloaded anything or clicked on anything dangerous so how did my software just go?
It dont really matter, im just curious.

    http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-12-how-reload-operating-system-nuked-blackberry
That did it for me. Basically you need to download the Software and put it back on your phone, its fairly simple if you follow those instructions.
Let me know how it goes.

  • Error Message JVM Error 517

    Help!!!
JVM Error 517 just showed up on my 2 yr old Torch and I can't get out of this field. It's locked.
What doesthismean??  I'min NJ in the middle of this hurricane and need phone as my communications vehicles.

It means that your BlackBerry is totally useless until your reload the OS.  Plug your phone in to your PC and open BlackBerry Desktop Software.  Once the software sees that you don't have an operational OS loaded to your phone, it will suggest loading one.  Just follow the prompts and you should be fine.
Let us know if that helps you.

  • JVM Error 547 - Can't load OS

I have a Blackberry 8120 and it keeps getting the JVM Error 547 with the only option to reset. I tried loading a fresh install of the OS but it get's to the point of loading the first .cod file and it resets itself. I've also tried using just the app loader and not the Desktop Manager but get the same problem. I've tried downgrading the OS but get the same problem. I've also tried a custom app called "BBSAK" but I get the same problem.
Help! I've searched the net and tried a bunch of things but nothing seems to work! Is the blackberry fried?

Turns out it was the ribbon.

  • How can I back up my data in this situation?

I was using my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion normally and just fine, when suddenly every click of the mouse started to result in 5 minutes of the spinning color wheel. I tried restarting, and learned that my laptop can now take up to 60 minutes just to start up. I went into disk utility, and have found that I have a "hardware problem that cannot be repaired." My MacBook Pro is literally too slow to use, and I can't repair the disk. I NEED to back up my hard drive, but when I finally managed to open time machine to get a backup on an external harddrive, I spent 2 full days to get to 8GB/500GB then something happened and it reset. Backing up would take months at this rate, and I need to save my data before I can bring it in to AppleCare. Would AppleCare cover this? How can I save all my data? It's very important. Thanks in advance.

    anonymous72819,
if the backing up part is extremely obvious, why didn’t you take those extremely obvious steps such as backing up more frequently, so that you would not be in your current situation?
What I’m talking about is that you had asked if AppleCare would cover “this”, viz backing up your data from a disk “that cannot be repaired”. With a damaged hard drive, the speed from which data can be extracted from it depends upon the particular damage to the drive. Alternative ways of backing up will take just as long as trying to use Time Machine to do so, since any backup method will use the same firmware commands in the disk to be able to read the disk’s contents. Resetting NVRAM will have no effect on reading a damaged disk.
No one is asking you to go without your laptop for months. You can quite easily remove your hard disk, provide it to a data recovery service to have them attempt data recovery, and install a replacement hard disk into your MacBook Pro to use your laptop in the interim. (AppleCare would take the damaged disk before installing a replacement disk, so that’s not an option if you wish to attempt data recovery on the damaged disk.)
I hope that you’ll learn the importance of making backups more frequently from this experience.

  • The attempt to burn a disc failed, unknown error (261) Can't back up on CD

The attempt to burn a disc failed, unknown error (261). I get this message every time I try to back up my music from itunes on to a CD. It doesn't matter if I try to back up all music or only music purchased from itunes. So far I have not been able to back up anything. Can someone please help me!!!! I have tried everything on the support website from apple, and nothing has worked. I am beginning to get very frustrated.
    Thanks

+I know my computer is up to date on firmware, because I just bought this laptop 4 months ago - it's a brand new Dell Inspiron 1721.+
Actually, in that case I definitely think you should check your firmware. I just had a look at the 32-bit Vista downloads page at Dell for your Inspiron 1721, and there's firmware updates listed there for four different drive models, all dated within the last four months.
Head to the following Dell page and enter your model information to get to your Downloads page:

  • Error -10006 can't set object or data to object or data

    Hi
Tripped up again by a silly error, I am trying to update an item in a record list but keep getting error -10006
Code below simplified but still produces the error, all help gratefully received.
    set filePath to "/Users/Ours/Documents/Text File.txt"
set recordList to every paragraph of (read filePath) -- get all records
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ","
set (text item 1 of item 1 of recordList) to "Ninth"
    message is :
    tell current application
      read "/Users/Ours/Documents/Text File.txt"
      --> "First,Second,Third
    Result:
error "Can’t set text item 1 of \"First,Second,Third\" to \"Ninth\"." number -10006 from text item 1 of "First,Second,Third"

You can't set text items directly like that. first convert the text to a list of text items, alter the list, then convert it back to text:
    set filePath to "/Users/Ours/Documents/Text File.txt"
set recordList to every paragraph of (read filePath) -- get all records
    set {oldTID, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, ","}
set tempList to text items of recordList
set item 1 of tempList to "Ninth"
set recordList to tempList as text
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to oldTID
