KDE5 - Wireless Shutdown With CIFS mounts

I've recently started to use WiFi to connect my computer to my home network. I'm using networkmanager 1.0.0-2 & networkmanger-qt 5.9.0-1
I have 5 CIFS mounts in my FSTAB.
When I'm connected to my home network via ethernet cable and I issue a shutdown command my system shutsdown immediatly.
However when I'm connected via WiFi in hangs for 3 minutes whilst trying to talk to/umount each CIFS mount. So with 5 mounts this can mean 15 minutes to shutdown.
So apart from remembering to do a umount -a before I issue a shutdown command is there anything else I can do?

At the moment, I don't know of anything that works. NetworkManager stopped executing pre-down and down dispatcher actions starting with ver>0.9.8, so my way of automatically unmounting doesn't work anymore. Plasma also does not run my shutdown scripts when placed into "~/.config/plasma-workspace/shutdown" as instructed here, even though it should.
Edit: here's the related bug report for Plasma: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338242

  • CIFS mounts will cause stalls on shutdown

    I've had this problem for awhile, but I've been brushing it under the rug.  I have several mount points set up so that I can access several different webspaces locally.  They are all set up so that they need to be manually mounted(I don't need them at every mount).  I have some mount problems..but thats not my main issue..talk about them laer..  My main concern is that when I try to shut down my system, it stalls upon trying to unmount these filesystems.  I am unable to umount them on my own..but not at shutdown.  I think the problem lies in the area of the order of unmounting.    I just ran across that idea, so I'll report back my findings tomorrow, but does anyone have any idea what would cause this kind of problem?

    I had this problem, for those googlers here is the solution, post this into your /etc/rc.local.shutdown file:
    echo "Unmounting samba-cifs filesystems..."
    MOUNTED_CIFS_DIRS=`mount -t cifs| cut -d\ -f3`
    MOUNTED_DIRS_ARRAY=($MOUNTED_CIFS_DIRS)
    for i in ${!MOUNTED_DIRS_ARRAY[@]}
    do
    umount -l ${MOUNTED_DIRS_ARRAY[i]}
    done
    so that it looks like this:
    [jam@ikaros ~]$ cat /etc/rc.local.shutdown
    #!/bin/bash
    # /etc/rc.local.shutdown: Local shutdown script.
    echo "Unmounting samba-cifs filesystems..."
    MOUNTED_CIFS_DIRS=`mount -t cifs| cut -d\ -f3`
    MOUNTED_DIRS_ARRAY=($MOUNTED_CIFS_DIRS)
    for i in ${!MOUNTED_DIRS_ARRAY[@]}
    do
    umount -l ${MOUNTED_DIRS_ARRAY[i]}
    done
    [jam@ikaros ~]$
    this will unmount the cifs mounts before the network goes down. Thanks.

  • .goutputstream garbage files on cifs mount

    The situation: I have a cifs mount and I'm trying to manage files using nautilus and gedit.
    The problem: Whenever I try to upload any file it says that the file already exists and by that ask me if I want to replace or skip.
    If I choose to replace you can see that the file gets uploaded in nautilus, but then it dissapears from the file list, if you update the list it will appear again but with a hundred files named .goutputstream-XXXXXX.
    If I choose skip, an empty file with the name of the file I tried to upload appears.
    If I try to create a new file with nautilus a progress bar appears which says preparing, nothing happens on the progress bar and when I cancel there will be thousands of copies of "new file".
    Further more... trying to dublicate a file creates the same result, progress bar and then thousands of copies of the file.
    And even more... Editing a file with gedit seems fine... until second time that you try to save it. First it says that the file has already been altered (but there is no change if you reload it) and if you choose to save anyway it's fine, but the gedit says it can't create a backup file, but it does create a backup file, but it's empty and there is hundreds of garbage files named gedit-save-XXXXXX.
    Using terminal and other editor (nano) creates no problem. I have no clue where to even being troubleshooting...
    This is only on a cifs mount, if I use smb:// in nautilus to access the share there is no problem...
    Anyone who can help?

  • Issue with AFP Mounts

    I am migrating the user homes from a Linux server to a 10.5.8 Xserve.
    The users are all setup in an LDAP environment.
    The homes are currently on an NFS server running Linux. All users login to network accounts and are automatically connected to their NFS homes upon login.
    I would like to start only migrating the files and thereby changed the users homes to something like this:
    /Network/Servers/<afs server>/Volumes/NetworkFolder/testuser
    The user testuser has the same uid, user, pwd in the LDAP as on the new Xserve. The Xserve volume is finally mounted and I can login with my network home as testuser. However, the files are all read only. I cannot change anything in the new home files.
    The access log on the AFS server says I'm logged in as Guest
    I'm sure its a simple option I'm forgetting either in the LDAP config or on the AFS - I just seem to be stuck.
    Any idea on how to get this to work would be greatly appreciated.
    - Thanks, Peter

    I was looking for something like this. I have just bought a WD My Book World NAS drive. I connected it to my old router (G) and discovered it was too slow to wirelessly stream high bitrate music or movies. I then bought a Belkin N+ router which resolved this issue. However I have trouble with the mounts. When I wake my MacBook from sleep I can normally see the drive under Shares in Finder, but after some minutes it disappears. If I Go -> Network in Finder it turns up, but will not connect. The funny thing is I can be streaming music from the darn thing without interruption! The network shares on the desktop also turns on/off erratically. I can still access the folder contents from these even that the drive is not visible in Finder.
    The NAS is set up for AFP on all shares which should be ok. I have tried both dynamic and fixed IP address on the NAS, but my Mac gets it dynamically. I'll try a fixed IP for this.
    People are talking about automatic mount of network resources on start up. I came from Windblows and do not know all the fancy Unix commands and config files stuff. So how do you folks do this?
    Will be much appreciated, thanks!

  • Cp cannot preserve times when copying to a cifs mount

    Hi everyone,
    I've just hit this odd little problem and, so far, google is not being my friend
    I have this remote filesystem mounted via cifs mounted via fstab like the below:
    //10.11.12.13/remoteshare /mnt/localshare cifs noauto,guest 0 0
    When I try to use cp I get error messages
    cp: preserving times for ‘file’: Operation not permitted
    The files do copy file, they just have different time stamps. If I copy as root it works fine.
    I haven't been able to find any information via google, or the arch forums/wiki. If anyone can offer any pointers that would be great.

    When you say "your user" do you mean your local user or the user on the remote share ? What if there is no user exposed on the remote share (e.g. like it's just a public share) ?
    Sorry, I mean the local user you're doing the copying from.
    The reason is the files are mounted under the root user by default, but you can give a local user ownership in the mount command.
    The remote computer may well be able to override this (I've never tried), but assuming a standard set-up.
    I mount my samba share with the "uid=skanky,gid=users" option and can mv and cp to it without permission issues.

  • How do I use a Verizon PC Wireless card with my iMAC Intel Core desktop?

    Help! Bought a Kyocera KPC650 Wireless PC Card for Verizon wireless internet. Works fine w/ laptop because it has a slot. How do I configure my iMAC desktop to accept this card? Is there an external USB adapter? Or do I have to get one installed internally? Which adapter works with OX 10.4?
    I've seen the Quatech U132 online. Will that work? Its $192!! As is the Sewell adapter too. ($209)
    Any ideas? I want to get off SBCYahoo DSL and their router because our DSL line is damaged in our complex and no one is fixing it!
    Thanks in advance.

    What protocol is Verizon using that is not compatible with the Airport Extreme built into your iMac? I have used Apple's Airport Extreme with a lot of different wireless routers with zero problems as all conform to either 802.11b or 802.11g standard both of which are supported by the built in Airport Extreme.

  • I have a mid-2010 iMac and just purchased a 2TB TC, can't join existing wireless network with AC standard so attached to iMac via ethernet with TC wifi turned off.  How do i access TC now? not showing up in disk utility or on desktop. working fine with TM

    I have a mid-2010 iMac and just purchased a 2TB TC, I just found out that it can't join existing wireless network with new AC standard so attached to iMac via ethernet with TC's wifi turned off.  How do i access TC now? not showing up in disk utility or on desktop. It is working fine with TM.  My cheeper seagate drives etc kept crashing, so i didnt trust cheeper back up options anymore.  Connected those drives to TM via firewire and could see the drives and access them.
    Also, I didn't want to bridge TC with my new fios router that I paid 100 dollars for, to get N speed and also paying 10 dollars more a month for fast speed.  I heard that bridging slows down everything and then there can be port issues with mail etc.  I connect to the internet via airport only and it is pretty fast. Getting over 50mbs downloads and over 30mbs uploads.  Plus everything in my home it connected to my fios router, airport express for music streaming, two apple tvs, vuezone camer system.  I really didn't want to monkey around too much with my system.  But are there other options to connect the new TC.  Can't find info anywhere for this and called apple who gave me the info above.  after hanging up, i see that i cant access my TC and I am wondering if i would have to reset it to turn wifi on again to make changes to the drive, turn off blinking light  or repair it in disk utility if it should become corrupted.
    For other with similar issues i did solve some other problems: when i connected it to my ethernet port on my iMac wifi stopped working.  Found that I had to turn off the ethernet in the system>network screen, but then TM didn't see the TC so i restarted after changes and then it saw it.
    Now a rant.  I can't believe in this wireless age that Apple would make a product that cant join a wireless net work.  The apple rep said i could return it and look for the previous TC that would join an existing wireless network.  Are we going backwards?
    Thanks!
    lennydas

    Ok... it is getting a bit clearer but there are still some questions.
    I connect to the internet via airport only and it is pretty fast.
    I was assuming airport in this statement in your first post meant the TC or the Express.. but I now realise we are still in the mass confusion stage where apple calls everything wireless an airport. So what you mean is the airport internal card of the computer??
    Also, I didn't want to bridge TC with my new fios router that I paid 100 dollars for, to get N speed and also paying 10 dollars more a month for fast speed.  I heard that bridging slows down everything and then there can be port issues with mail etc.
    I think this is mistaken.
    Putting the TC in bridge mode plugged into your FIOS will not slow the network.. nor will it cause mail or port issues.. in bridge the TC is just a fancy WAP and switch plus the network hard drive.
    If the computer is close it will be faster than the FIOS.
    You can run both wireless networks with different names.. so it is clear which is which. But you can also setup roaming so the computers themselves pick which is the best wireless.
    I tried extending the wireless net work and tried joining wireless network, but the TC kept crashing and I had to keep resetting the TC.  the Apple support person said these, extend wireless network and joint wireless network, are no longer a connection option with the new TC because of the new AC protocol.
    Thanks again!
    You cannot extend to a non-apple wireless router.
    You cannot use join a wireless network because when you do the ethernet ports will be cut off.
    But that has not changed.. I don't think Apple support is correct.. there has been no change with the AC model.. it is simply a fact that apple routers do not work in join wireless mode other than as a dumb client. The same applies to AC as to the earlier version.. but I have asked another person to check this.
    Join in the express is the only apple router that still allows an ethernet connection.
    For now you best use of the TC is bridged to the FIOS. Wireless you can sort out between several options.

  • Mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13" sudden shutdown with no errors

    I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13" 2.66 GHz with 2x4GB of Crucial RAM, the original 320GB HDD and running OS X 10.10.1; however, this problem has already been bugging me back when I had Mavericks. For about a year and a half now my laptop would suddenly shutdown with a click sound. It first only did it about once every couple of weeks but now it'll sometimes do it within five minutes of turning it on. Sometimes it'll last a couple hours, and other times it'll last 5 seconds. It's not temperature related, because it'll do it whether it has just been turned on or been on for over an hour. I reset the PRAM and SMC, but that didn't fix it. I ran tests with Disk Utility and it said there were some issues with the disk. Disk Utility wasn't able to do it, so I repaired it with fsck in Single User Mode. I thought this was finally going to work, but within 15 minutes it shut down again. Finally I ran the Apple Hardware Test and put it through the extensive test. After it was done running, it said that everything was ok. So according to that there should be nothing wrong with the internal hardware. I would check in the console logs, and it would give me -2 and -60 for "Previous shutdown cause: ". At this point I have no idea what could be causing the problems.

    I took it in to the Genius Bar over the weekend, and they ran their tests on it. It passed with flying colors; including the battery, which is doing quite well for its age. So with that being said, they said that the problem is probably with the logic board since everything else came back ok. At this point, I am better off investing in a new computer since a new logic board goes for $400 without labor, and that is if the problem really is only with the logic board since that was their best guess, not definitive.

    The printer has 'sharing' turned on from the Mac end; this works with a Powerbook via the wireless connection.  Sharing is also turned on in the Windows printer control panel for this printer (under properties).  The Mac is a G5 running 10.5.8.  When I try to print a page from the Windows machine it gets hung in the print queue.
    Any advice how to proceed would be appreciated!

    The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
    Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.
    http://stevejenkins.com/blog/2010/01/using-the-local-default-gateway-with-a-wind ows-vpn-connection/
    Cisco vpn client..
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/239113
    I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
    The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
    It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
    Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

    In particular, you would want to focus on the information regarding a "Roaming Network"

  • I live in an apartment with supplied internet.  I have wireless network with no password.  I have a wall outlet that I can plug into.  When I plug in my TC I get a double NAT error.  I try bridge mode, but I can't get the internet to work.

    Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
    Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
    Can I get a suggestion on how to use the TC as a different wireless device with it's own password without access to the cable modem.  I only have access to a wall port.
    I own many apple devices, iMac mid-2011, Macbook Air 2013, 2 ipads, and 2 iphones for the family, and Apple TV.
    I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.

    Thanks

    I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.
    You building supplied internet is a cheap service that is without proper routable addresses..
    Therefore to use more than one IP you MUST have double NAT.. sorry there is no choice..
    Slow that is because you are sharing internet with every other person in the building.. get your own broadband service.
    Bridge will not work.. it cannot work because the building only has private IP addressing. And they only give you a single address.
    You can put a password on the wireless.. go to the airport utility and put in a password.
    Other than that I don't understand what password you expect.
    Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
    No NAT.. means the TC becomes a dumb Wireless AP and switch.. works fine with a cable modem router.. or any broadband router but useless with your building system.
    Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
    Double NAT, and set your own wireless names. There is no alternative.. sorry.

    You need to turn on Printer Sharing on both the PC and OS X. I can't help you on Vista but in OS X it's System Preferences - Sharing - check the Printer Sharing box.

    The server shutdown with the above output in the log file, can you please let me know why this happened and any solution for it?
    Thanks.

    Have you see that in your posted log:

    it seems to be a trouble with server performance pack. Try to DISABLE performance pack on your server and restart (unckeck "Native IO Enabled" on your domain"). You can also found some suggestions on http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs92/messages/Socket.html (check for "BEA-000414" message).
