Keeping the screen clean

Until I get the screen protector, what is the easiest/best way to clean the screen? It seems like the the cloth just doesn't get everything.

I've had it for a year and have seen no need for a screen protector. Anything that can scratch the glass screen (which isn't much) would cut through a screen protector like butter. I just wipe it with the cleaning cloth that came with the phone. It works very well.

How can I keep my screen clean? What can use to clean it?

    May depend on the screen.
A CRT usually has a glass cover. Twenty years infront with a periodic careful spray of Windex works for me.
Laptops are another matter. Best bet is to go by the product manual.
However, having said that, my 30 plus years of nautical experience led me to use WD 40. Of course I was boating long before I owned my first computer. Thus when one of the boating mags recommended using WD 40 and a soft cloth on my marine electronics, e.g., radar, loran, radios, gages, etc., keyboard and screens, it worked so well that I also used it on my laptops' screens and keyboards (at home and on the boat)
Just my experience. Not for all.

You should take it to an Apple store or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) Carefully inspect the hinge joint and make sure there is no debris that you can see, you can try carefully sliding some sticky tape thru the joint to clear any loose stuff out. But this sounds like there might be more going on here, and the hinge is something that you do not want to fool with.

  • Is there a way to keep the screen from lighting up every time an email comes in, but still be able to see the email on the lock screen when you press the home button?

Is there a way to keep the screen from lighting up everytime an email comes in, but still be able to see the email on the lock screen when you press the home button?  This is killing my battery, but also is kinda the whole point of the notification center in my mind.

This is something I've been wondering. I am a bit like you, I like being able to have a glance at emails or Facebook updates without having to log in, and I think it would be great to be able to turn off the notification switching the screen on, especially for emails as I do get a lot, and Facebook, but I somehow doubt it is possible.
I am currently monitoring how much this eats up my battery charge. On a normal day, after an overnight charge, I would probably still have 30%-40% left when I leave work in the evening. Today, I was down to 48% by lunchtime, where I've usually got a good 60-70% left... Might have to turn email notifications off on lock screen until it's possible to have them appearing in the list without flashing me...

Nothing against the standard DVD Player program, but when I'm using the remote Front Row has more functionality. When I use it plugged in, there is no problem, but on battery power the screen auto-dims like normal and then brightens again and dims again...on and on. It proves to be very distracting.
Is there any way anybody knows to keep the screen from dimming like that while im in front row DVD player?

Go to System Preferences > Energy Saver and change the time for screen dim in your prefs for battery operation. You can always change the setting back to the existing setting later, if you like.

  • How to keep the shared_pool clean ?

    Hello,
I develop a VB6 software which allows to consult a table containing lots of data through a user interface looking like an Excel spreadsheet.
On each column of the spreadsheet (and then of the table) the user can apply a sort and/or a filter on a given value (for example : display only the rows for which the amount is 100).
The user can sort/filter as many columns as he wishes (1 sort and 1 filter on a given column at maximum).
Moreover, which columns are displayed or not is also the choice of the user.
The underlying SQL querie is thus totally dynamical and has nothing fixed : neither the columns list of the SELECT, nor the WHERE clause, nor the ORDER BY clause !
So, I don't see how I could optimize anything, and above all avoid that these queries (always different from one to the next) full the SHARED_POOL, because this kind of message comes far too often :
ORA-04031 : unable to allocate 8716 bytes of shared memory ("large pool", "unknown object","cursor work he","kllqas:kllsltba")
I am not an expert in Oracle, so please excuse me in if my post is not very clear or confuses several notions.
Your help would really be extremely precious !
Thanks a lot in advance !
    PS
Oracle 8 is queried through an ADO interface

To keep shared pool clean, make sure your SQL is reusable. Learn about Bind variables. Do not create your SQL 'on the fly' by concatenating the SQL parts together and executing that dynamically.
Purchase Thomas Kyte's book (published by APress @ apress.com) titled 'Expert Oracle Dtabase Architecture: 9i and 10g programming techniques' to understand the programmiong tricks to improve performance and keep the cache clean.

Yes, picture frame mode, which is the icon next to the slider. Configure in settings.

You should try taking the battery out and putting it back in, but then if that doesn't work, you should take it into your Apple Retail Store and have a genius at the Genius Bar take a look. That seems like a hardware problem to me.

  • How to keep the screen in sleep mode while using the Apple Remote?

i use the imac to play soft music for me to fell at sleep, but sometime i just want to turn the volume down/mute/stop. but the screen keep come back on and brighten up my room.
would this be possible? is there any program that could adjust this option?
any cmd that i could run to fix this?
    thanks

I appreciate the help A Brody, but this does not solve what I am asking. I like being able to focus on something like a YouTube video without having to worry about losing my "spot" if I want to move the cursor to pause the movie. I want to do this on demand and not have to worry about clicking a bunch of different stuff or opening a screenshot in Preview.
If my iMac can do it, then how can my MacBook do it?

  • Retina MacBook Pro...is it safe to keep the screen closed?

    1. Can heat affect the screen or the computer if the lid is closed while using an external monitor?  Should the screen be left open just a crack or is it
    ok to be closed completely?
    2. Is the screen safe with the lid closed from the keys on the keyboard?  Is there any chance of keys hitting the screen and scuffing it up when the lid is closed or should I keep a thin cloth or something in there when the lid is closed and transporting it around like the kind it ships with?

Thanks! Thats pretty much what I thought as well for both questions!
I was worried about #2 and asked because I remember years ago a model MacBook that did have keys that could (and did) scratch up the screen when the lid was closed and have always kept something in there since (usually the divider that ships with it).  Good to know that doesn't happen any longer.

  • What is the best way to keep the Aluminum clean?

Hi guys, just wondering what you are using to clean the shiny macbook pro? Eventually the notebook does get a little dirty do to oil from skin, sweat etc.
do you just use a little water and a cloth or is there a safe product to use?
    thank you in advance!

Also, the same way you would clean an LCD....
    To clean the LCD:
    1. Turn off the computer or display. You may need to turn off the computer in order to turn off some Apple displays.
    2. Dampen a clean, soft, lint-free cloth or paper with water only.
    3. Wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly on the screen.

  • Keep the motor clean and running

    hi all :>
my arch installations last quite a long time now and i don't really want to reinstall my computers even there are some unowned/leftover files on them. So here's my question:
how do arch users keep their system clean? searching and removing files by scripts, reinstalling all packages ... !?
    best regards
    arch0r :>

There's a tool in archlinuxfr to sort packages by amount used, but I've never tried. Another tip is to use tupac to find all files in /etc/ and /usr/, at least. not owned by packages.
The obvious one would be using 'pacman -Rs $(pacman -Qtdq)' to remove unneeded dependencies. I have this aliased to 'pacmanro' and run it regularly to make sure I haven't accidentally left stuff over.
Using 'LANG=C pacman -Qi | sed -n '/^Name[^:]*: \(.*\)/{s//\1 /;x};/^Installed[^:]*: \(.*\)/{s//\1/;H;x;s/\n//;p}' | sort -nk2' (from Wiki, obviously) to sort packages based on size can help for freeing up some space.
Also pay attention to the messages when you remove packages; watch for notices that config files were left behind. You could search the filesystem for '*.pacsave' files. There's probably a utility to help somewhere.

  • Keep The Screen on While Listening To Music IOS8

While driving and listening to music, I prefer to have the iPhone's screen on ... just makes it easier to change songs without having to hit the home button to bring the player controls back up.  Is there a way to do this in ios8?

    Hi shafeen,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
You can turn off the Auto-Lock in Settings to keep you iPhone from going to sleep. Keep in mind that your battery life will decrease if your iPhone does not go to sleep.
    iPhone: About General Settings
    Auto-Lock
Locking iPhone turns off the display. Nothing happens if you touch the screen. You can still receive calls and text messages, an you can adjust the volume and use the mic button on the iPhone Stereo headset when listening to music or on a call.
Set the amount of time before iPhone locks
Choose General > Auto-Lock and choose a time.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • Want to keep the screen in "fade out" mode

Hi! I hope you'll be able to help me with this one!
I use my ipod at work and I don't want to look like a guy with a tv running on his desk, so I keep my ipod touch set so that it locks after one minute. What I found really annoying is that if someone come to talk to me, I have to push the main button, unlock the ipod, and then press pause. I would like to be able to keep the kind of fade out mode that the screen turns to a few second before locking. This way, I will be able to press pause directly, and don't look like somebody who play with his ipod instead of working...
The only setting I see is the one that totally lock the ipod... is there something I can do?
If not, do you know if the screen will drown the battery a lot quicker if it's always turn on?
    Thanks for your help.

There is no way to chat through this Forum. If you can provide the model of the laptop we can give detailed instructions.
