Kernel panic but software problem

Kernel panic (the "You have to restart your computer" message at startup) is said to come from hardware problems but this seems to be a software problem - maybe somebody can help me!
It started slowly with the fans coming on more often than ususally. Then, I had some kernel panics at startup, usually after two or three false stars, the system would load. Hardware Test said everything was OK, Disc Utility corrected a few permission errors, but the problem persisted. I tried everything: Disconnecting everything, removing PCI card, you name it, nothing helped.
Only thing that did help was start over. "Archive and install" was not good enough, I had to start from zero. Which means that all my iTunes library and all the rest waas lost. Made a disc image on an external HD and went for it.
After that, I upgraded to 10.4.11 and tried the migration assistant. Left some of the programs out from the old installation, but took my Documents folder with me. Imported my iTunes library and iPhoto pictures. Until then, everything was perfect. After that point, the fan started its strange behavior again, and today guess what: You have to restart your c.!
So it must have to do with the programs and data that I imported, and not hardware. Have no idea though - anyone run into similar problems?
Apart from standard apps, the only thing I use is Cubase but I haven´t touched it for a long time.

Hi, thanks for your reply! I am now trying to rebuild everything using 10.4.7 ... seems the driver for the audio card (m-audio) was at least causing problems. I´ll see if it was the only one. I did the system updates whenever they popped up in software update but there wasn´t even a driver available for 10.4.11.
If that´s not it, I´ll try to use your tips! Thank you!

  • 2007 Macbook pro kernel panic, hard drive problem?

    Hello!
I've been trying to sort this for a few weeks now, and I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on the situation.
    Problem:
I have a 2007 15" MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 15/2.2/2GB/120GB) which a few weeks ago suddenly died on me. It has what I believe is called a kernel panic. On startup a grey screen falls down with a box saying that I need to restart the computer.
I took it to my local apple store where they booted an OSX (not sure which) from an external drive (I think it was using a firewire cable). The MacBook appeared to work fine from this external hard drive, but when disk utility was run on the internal hard drive, the disk utility eventually froze.
Based on this info, the guy there deduced (fairly reasonably I suppose) that the problem must be my hard drive, and replacing my hard drive should solve this. So  bought a
    Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500 GB,Internal,7200 RPM,6.35 cm (2.5").
The equipment I now have to try and get my MacBook to work:
    - An iMac 2.7 Ghz i5 (8gb Ram) running Mac OSX 10.7.5
    - A replacement hard drive for the MacBook (Seagate Momentus)
    - A SATA HArd drive USB docking station
    - A 500gb iOmega Hard drive with Firewire 800 cables
    - The 2 original install disks for Tiger that came with the MacBook Pro
    - A working .dmg of retail snow leopard
What I have tried so far:
I have formatted the replacement hard drive correctly (GUID) for Mac OSX. If I turn the macbook pro on with the new hard drive in, a folder icon with a question mark in it flashes in the middle of the screen... If I put in the original install disk, it starts to read it (apple logo and spinning wheel) and then eventually kernel panics. When I hold option on start up, the 'Mac OSX Install Disk 1" is the only option available (the cd/dvd drive must be working if it recognises the disk here i assume?) but when I select it, it spins for a bit, then kernel panics.
My next approach was to try and create an installable and bootable version of an OSX on an external hard drive. (I have tried this with both the original Tiger install disk, and with the leopard.dmg)... I followed the readily available instructions online on how to do this, and was able to restore the first partion on the external hard drive with the OSX install disk image.... The problem I have then face is installing the osx onto the second partition.
This seems to be because my newish iMac/OSX wont let me boot any OSX installer CD/firewire or otherwise, other than the original operating system for the iMac.
I thought this wouldn't matter, as I would be able to run the installer when I plugged the iOmega into my MacBook pro. The problem I now have is that the Macbook wont recogninise the iOmega when it is connected by firewire. It will only recognise it when connected by USB, but when I try and run the installer, it spins for a while then kernel panics. I believe this is because MacBook pros of this age will only run OSX Install/bootable through firewire.
So... hardware wise, could this be anything other than a problem with the hard drive? As we know the MacBook pro will boot from an external drive...
If anyone has actually managed to read this far into this incredibly boring, waffling description of my problem, I am already grateful, and if anyone can give any help or advice at all regarding this, I will be eternally in your debt....
    Thank you

    I have a 2007 15" MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 15/2.2/2GB/120GB)
    The MacBook Pro 3,1
    So I bought a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500 GB,Internal,7200 RPM,6.35 cm (2.5").
Right the standard hard drive (not the XT which is a hybrid and can be problematic)
a folder icon with a question mark in it flashes in the middle of the screen...
That's the firmware telling you it can't find the/a bootable OS.
The 2 original install disks for Tiger that came with the MacBook Pro

but when I select it, it spins for a bit, then kernel panics.
Your machines firmware was updated, it will only now boot from 10.6 either on a bootable USB thumb drive or via the white 10.6.3 retail disks you can get by calling Apple by phone.
This seems to be because my newish iMac/OSX wont let me boot any OSX installer CD/firewire or otherwise, other than the original operating system for the iMac.
True. If the iMac could boot from the 10.6.3 disk, then you could install 10.6.3 via Firewire Target Disk Mode onto the other Mac if for instance the Superdrive didn't work.
MacBook pros of this age will only run OSX Install/bootable through firewire.
    True.
Just order the 10.6.3 white retail disk from Apple via phone, forget 10.4 and 10.5 as they are not getting updates anyway.
However you can extract iLife from the 10.4/10.5 machine specific disks using Pacifist from CharlesSoft.

  • Kernel panics but no panic log

    Hi all,
Have been getting what appear to be random kernel panics, but am having trouble diagnosing because my Beige is generating no panic logs at all.
Panics occur sometimes at startup, very early in boot process (grey screen with spinning wheel, before the blue Mac screen), sometimes in the middle of a work session, sometimes not at all for a day or two. Do not seem to be related to connection of external FW drives.
Have done most of the diagnostic stuff -- checking cables, dust bunnies, restting CUDA, reset NVRAM, disconnecting SCSI scanners, serial modem, USB hub, starting with a fresh user account, etc.
Mostly, would like to know why I'm not getting panic logs, because maybe this indicates the root of the problem?
    Thanks,
    Tina

    Thanks, Tom,
I hadn't thought about that. Just assumed that XPostFacto, by enabling Panther, would enable all of Panther. All the other logs are generated just fine. I'll check back at my usual place on the Beige forums and see if others get panic logs or not.
That particular Beige Mac of mine is at its busiest work period of the year, so removing/testing RAM will have to wait until after the holidays. But running DIM First Aid shows no problem. Guess I'll go ahead and run TTP4's RAM tests.
I'm also wondering if perhaps a failing PRAM battery might be causing these hiccups, but the symptoms aren't usually kernel panics.
    Thanks for the suggestions,
    Tina

  • Kernel Panic after Software Update to 10.4.3

What I'm about to say isn't definitive, but it documents my experience and by posting a message here it may help others. Take it for what it's worth ...
Last night I accepted upgrade to 10.4.3, restarted the computer, and from that point forward I could not get past a kernel panic screen. Today I spent an hour at the Apple Store diagnosing and eventually reinstalling OS X. The tentative conclusion after all our efforts was that my older copy of Palm Desktop may have been the source of my problem as it was the only item which presented error messages in the new OS X install. Coincidently(?), Palm has just released a new version of Palm Desktop (see VersionTracker.com) which, once installed, took care of the problem.
After installing all the Software Updates, I'm happily now back in business.
Was so happy with my Genius that I bought a year of ProCare.
Again, the Palm Desktop root cause is just educated guessing.
    Regards, Travis

That is totally normal for 10.4.3 Tiger users to see that every time. There's an Apple doc. about it, but I can't find it right now. So, don't worry (I get them too!).
    Cheers!

  • Kernel panic with Software Defined Radio

I've been playing with a cheap software defined radio dongle (the NooElec R820T based on the common RTL2832U chipset). Sometimes it works, but usually whenever I run a program that uses the SDR, the computer will either immediately throw a kernel panic or simply freeze. I've been using Linux for years and I've never even seen an actual kernel panic until now. Heres a Screenshot.
The problem only happens on my laptop, which is a Lenovo X200t Thinkpad. It does not happen on my other computer, which also runs Arch. It also doesn't happen under Kali Linux on the same machine, so I don't think its a hardware issue.
Heres a link to the thread I made on the RTL-SDr subreddit. They recommended I report it to you guys.

  • Kernel panics from software

    Dear users,
Since 4 weeks i got a new MacBook Pro which had kernel panics from the start.
After long disccusions i did get a new one (from the new release). But also this macbook has kernel panics.
So my conclussion is that some software is causing this problem but i don't know which.
This is mij EtreSoft check report: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tqnfj35mpuzgpzg/EtreChceck_report.pdf

That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
    A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
    Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by starting up in safe mode and then restarting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications of the machine.
Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test, if applicable.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve starting up from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Even if FileVault is not active, an aftermarket SSD may be the cause of kernel panics. Check the manufacturer's website for a firmware update.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If the system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
Otherwise, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.

  • Erratic behaviour. Kernel Panic. RAM problem? HDD? iBook blues..

I dont know what's wrong with my iBook.
At first, safari kept on crashing. I deleted plists (Safari prefs files) and Safari ran again using new default plists... for awhile. Then it crashed and wouldnt start at all.
Then I got my first kernel panic (BSOD of OSX)
I reinstalled OSX TWICE trying to figure out if updates were causing the problem.
I also tried Apple Hardware test from my installation disc. Everyiting ok.
After that, I got a shock when my applications would not run! Safari would exit. YM crashed. MSNmsgr crashed. And then the kernel would panic (like BSOD).
I also removed RAM i recently installed.
    PC2700 256MB Kingston.
According to Apple, the iBook G4 1ghz uses PC2100 RAM but is compatible with PC2700 RAM.
I tried Apple Hardware test again from my installation disc. Everyting is fine.
But the system hanged on startup. No login screen at all.
I tried reinstall OSX. But the installer (booted from DVD) does not detect my HDD!!!
shocked, i thought that my disk had failed.
Diskutility of the installer. cannot repair the volume.
    HFS: volume okay
    Volume ... corrupt.
    So, I erased the HDD.
Rebooted and now installer recognizes the disc.
So i just reinstalled OSX for the FOURTH time.
    Now im really confused...
What could have caused the HDD to become corrupt?
Was it incompatible RAM? (but the RAM should be compatible)
or is it my HDD failing?
    I ran diskwarrior.
SMART HDD reports indicate that the disc is running normally.
I am really confused. Dont know what could be the cause of the problem.
I cannot risk my computer being unable to boot again as i use it for work. And when OSX cannot boot and I had to reinstall (note, Install and archive was not available as OS DVD was a lower version than the installed version) and all my files were gone. Luckily, i had a backup.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
It is doubtful that you have been seeing is a kernel panic, since a kernel panic does not give you a blue screen.
The hard drive can be corrupted if you do a forced shutdown instead of a normal one. If you were stuck on a blue screen repeatedly, it is my assumption that you did repeated forced shutdowns. Any and every time you do one, you should repair the hard drive before continuing to work.
I don't understand why Archive and Install was not available to you. I have started over after updates with my 10.3.0 CD and used Archive and Install. There should be no problem in that regard.
The iBook G4 Discussions can be found here.

  • Kernel panics but no panic.log file?

I recently started getting kernel panics. In my research online to find out more, I realized that I do not have the /Library/Logs/panic.log file(s) that everyone speaks of. I followed along the Resolving Kernel Panic FAQ where it mentions at the bottom three reasons why the panic.log file may not be written. The first reason does not apply since my KP does not happen at bootup. The third reason is probably not the case since I've had a 10:1 decrease in KPs since replacing my RAM. However, the second reason, "If remote debugging has been enabled via the debug parameter in boot-args, automatic panic logging is disabled." may be the culprit, but the page the link is to does not exist. I end up at an Apple page listing all of the available MAN pages.
What is the debug parameter and where do I find boot-args to inspect?
Using memtest, I did find that both of my 1GB sticks of RAM were bad and have switched back to the original 512MB stick that tests out as ok. (yes I tested both the bad and good RAM in both slots) I have only had one kernel panic since switching 4 days ago whereas before I had about 10 per day.
    17" PBG4 1.67Ghz/2GB/100GB-7200   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iSight

Well, the majority of KPs result from hardware problems. Memtest tests the RAM. The Apple Hardware Test examines it and other hardware items. If you can't isolate the problem, you'll continue to get them. I've only had two on my six-year old machine and both were from bad RAM. Those had lifetime warranties with a local vendor, so replacing them was a simple matter. You can live with it or fix it. Your choice.

  • Time Machine Kernel Panics, but not in safe mode - what should I look for

    Hi,
Time machine Crashes (Kernel panic) when Run normally.
When I boot in Safe mode, it runs fine.
Is there a list of programs known to cause issues with Time Machine?
If not where should I look?
I assume my ID's "Login Items" - but is there anywhere else to look?
Here's a list of what I have on my machine that I suspect gets bypassed with safemode:
    VMWare Fusion Helper
    Dropbox
    Clusters Helper
    GrowlHelperApp
    gfxCardStatus
    Cinch
    Sizeup
    whichdaemon
    Xmarks for Safari
    LMILaunchAgentFixer
    itunesHelper
    ThingsHelper
In addition to the above 'Login Items' I also have Mozy home backup installed, Logmein, and istat menus.

Well as luck would have it, we can rule out istat menu as well...
    After uninstalling istat menus,
It crashed around the 180GB mark.
here is the latest crash dump:

  • How can I reformat my hard drive if erase and partition don't work in disk utility and I get an error when I try to erase and install from the Leopard install disk?  I have had several kernel panics, but the volume shows up in startup disk.

I have had several kernel panics on my iBook G4; the panic message shows up just after the desktop appears. Although the startup volume shows up in Startup Disk, the installation disk reports an error when I attempt an erase and install. Disk utility is unable either to erase or partition the hard drive. The hard drive shows up in disk utility, but the startup volume doesn’t  HELP!!!

Do you have the original system discs that came with the iBook when it was new?
Which exact iBook model is it?
You can choose from this list:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html
Erasing the disc and installing Mac OS X 10.5 will result in loss of the other applications (such as the iLife applications) which came pre-installed on the iBook.

  • Kernel Panics after Software update

(Really no defined section for this.  Posted in 'Ports and Interfaces'.)
Had my first Kernel panic on this laptop:
    MBP 6,1
    2.66 i7 Arrandale
    512MB 330M NVidia
    8GB Ram
Happened immediately after installing the new/updated software packages.
    Main programs open and running:
    Team Fortress 2
    Steam
    Mumble
    Terminal
The kernel panic with 'com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.3.6)' and my styled laptop suggest highly of a 330M fault, and requires a new Logic board.
Which in my case may or may not be true, due to the fact that this panic happened immediately after updating.

    Hi Carl,

Before you even start going through that, have you tried repairing permissions? A Safe Boot? Do you have the stock Apple-supplied RAM installed?

  • Repeated kernel panics and graphics problems...

    Hi all!
My old iMac G5 keeps on having kernel panics. Before it Panics, the display goes wierd:

And in the panic log it says (last 2 entries)

Could be the video card. Boot from the Apple Hardware Test on the Additional Software Disc that came with the computer. Run it several times in Extended. Write down any error you get. Might take a long time to finish, depending on how much RAM you have installed.
    +Using Apple Hardware Test+
+Before using Apple Hardware Test, disconnect all external devices with the exception of keyboard, mouse, display, and speakers. You should also disconnect the Ethernet network cable. If you are using the MacBook Air, you may need to connect the MacBook Air SuperDrive. Print out these instructions before proceeding with the following steps.+
+1. Restart your computer, holding down the “D” key while the computer restarts.+
+2. When the Apple Hardware Test language chooser screen appears, select the language appropriate for your locale, and press the Return key or click on the right arrow button.+
+3. If your computer is not supported by this version of Apple Hardware Test, an error dialog will be displayed. You should Shut Down the computer, locate the correct DVD containing Apple Hardware Test for this computer, and repeat the above steps.+
+4. If your computer does not restart to Apple Hardware Test:+
+a) Restart your computer with the DVD containing Apple Hardware Test. This should be the same DVD this document resides on. Hold down the “D” key while the computer restarts.+
+b) If your Mac has a Firmware Password enabled you need to disable it first using the Firmware Password Utility when booted from the Mac OS X installation DVD.+
+5. When the Apple Hardware Test main screen appears, follow the onscreen instructions.+

  • Kernel Panics - but weird ones...

    Hi,
Bought a brand new iBook g4 (running tiger) end of June. To be honest it's been weird from the start - despite having twice the amount of RAM it is much slower than my old one, and it tends to struggle with having more than a couple of programs open - something i'm not accustomed to with a mac!
Anyway, it's started with the kernel panics - had about 5 before i gave up with the thing. What was weird was that the message screen didn't come up properly - you got the first line about needing to turn off computer then the rest of the box is all disrupted, like the monitor has broken down within the confines of the box. Then it takes a few tries before computer will start again without freezing.
Tried talking to apple support on phone, no offence but they weren't helpful - guy tried to blame it on my startup items(??) which extend to Mail and iTunes. Again, with old ibook i had loads of startups with no probs. And it wasn't when starting up the kernel panics happened anyway.
So i decide to figure it out myself, and run the apple hardware test from cd. No failures first time, but i know for intermittent ram errors etc you need to loop it. Computer then crashes (just freezes, no message) every second or third time i run the test.
Will try and check the panic log when I get home for code... though prospects of getting computer to start up and work for that long depress me...
Anything I should do / check before taking it into apple store regent street? Am really depressed as my old ibook was worry free (until it got dropped and broken) and the replacement, despite being higher spec, is just not givin me that mac lurve...

Have a look at Dr Smoke's website for troubleshooting tips.

  • Kernel Panic, but I can still boot into windows? :(

    Hi folks,
    2007?'ish MBP 2.2
machine (normally) boots right in to SL (latest rev).
holding option, I can choose SL or Windows XP.
I have a firmware password set up (i know the password if i need it)
the problem: when i turn my mac on, it will not boot into Mac right away. I get an error that it's "unable to find driver for this platform: \ "ACPI\".\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1486.2.11/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp.:1 389
there's more, but I won't type it just yet b/c I just thought of a possible reason:
I was reviewing photos with a client for a slideshow (everything is backed up..no worries) and she had a thumb drive with more photos. I plugged it in the USB, but it wouldn't read or open in finder.
No worries - I ran downstairs to my mac pro, it worked. Dragged the pics off.
Shut down my macbook pro b/c I wasn't using it and when I tried to turn it on later, this problem is there.
    What I've tried:
    resetting SMC
    resetting PRAM
can't do the TDM - read the article about needing to install the software to open passwords, but hard to do if the computer is down (unless they mean installing it on the machine from which I'm trying to access it?)
i tried holding option to key in my firmware password, but the same thing happens - can't access the Mac side of things. I can access the Windows section and as I'm typing this, it looks like I'm able to access the install disc
Just thought I would post this for 2 reasons:
    1. to see if there's anything else I can do (I am going to try disk utilities to repair the disc)
and 2. to help anyone else out in case they have the same issue.
    Cheers,
    Keebler

Backup what you can, boot from a compatible installer DVD, erase the hard drive, then reinstall OS X.
Alternatively, you can try the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Kernel Panic! Hardware Problem? Auth stops!

Over the last few days we've run into a strange situation on our G4 PowerMac running OS X Tiger Server and services that require authentication just locking up while other services continue to run. This is a big problem because our Mail services need to say up, but authentication of all kinds fails.
Looking in the logs is see the following right around the beginning of the problem...
Jun 20 13:04:07 resserver memberd[59]: Fatal error -1 submitting to kernel (1: Operation not permitted)\n
Jun 20 13:04:07 resserver memberd[59]: Fatal error -1 submitting to kernel (1: Operation not permitted)\n
Jun 20 13:04:07 resserver memberd[14099]: memberd starting up
I found this post that describes almost exactly the same problem I'm having with much the same characteristcs but no one seemed to respond with an answer...

Has anyone run into this before? From what I've seen in my Google searching it seems to be hardware related. But scanning my logs I can't seem to find anything being reported and everything seems to be running just fine after a restart of the box. This is the second time though that I've had to restart it, and it's beginning to make me nervous!

Okay so here are some details from my logs:
It shows activity as per normal. With my clients logging in to retrieve their e-mail etc, then at exactly: Jun 20 13:04:07 you'll see the failure of memberd. You'll see after that that authentication services failing: "SASL LOGIN authentication failed". I dropped the box shortly after that so you can see the boot process.
