Kernel panick

For last few days, I am getting kernel panics few times a day. I have checked nothing has been updated in last few days. I am running Mavericks 10.9.4 on Macbook pro July 2011 edition. Can someone please help me with some pointers before I take it to apple shop.

Thanks for replies guys. I uninstalled most of the softwares which I had not used in recent past along with telestream. I turned off Time Machine as well. But even after that I got below panic report. I took this to apple support and they are recommending new mother board for my laptop.

  • Sudden Kernel Panicking: MacBook 3,1; 4Gb; 10.5.4

    Hi!
My Macbook suddenly started kernel panicking this afternoon. It's been very stable until this point. I'm primarily wondering what steps I ought to perform before contacting Apple, as I'm still within my 1-year warranty.
I've run a brief AHT run (with no results) and am letting the it loop over night. I'd not had any SMART indication on the hard drive or anything, though I have not tried to run disk utility yet.
The extra RAM I installed was installed in November or December when I first bought the machine. I did unplug my USB mouse and FireWire hard drive to make sure they were not related, though I've been using them consistently. I've not installed any new software recently that I can recall; the most recent (I think) was the 10.5.4 update, and some of the iPhone-related updates--although not iTunes 7.7. (I don't remember what exactly.) I'd used the machine all day without problems, until the panics started after I returned from a meeting.
The panic seems to be occurring after login, anywhere from 1 to 30 minutes, in my experience. At first I thought it was Safari, but that was not borne out in later testing.
Several of the kernel panic logs (at least in the automatic reporting tool) appeared garbled; one un-garbled one that I got off of the machine is as follows:

Well, the Disk Utility check didn't help--it froze again soon afterwards. However, my next step was to fun fsck from single-user mode. That didn't help either. But, I then did a SMC reset before booting again--by unplugging the AC adapter and the battery--and it seems that the computer is stable now. I had it on all night without problems. Hopefully, it will run throughout today, and I can consider it stable.
Is there anything in the kernel panic log that might be a pointer to a issue with the SMC?

That is all of it. My mp3 player stopped being recognized at the same time I started receiving this message. The other kernel panick posts I have read occur either at start-up or during opperation, so the advice given to those people was of little use to me. HELP!

  • 2008 Mac Pro Kernel Panicking Frequently

Guys, I'm throwing my hands up in the air.  I'm at your mercy.  Tell me to rub beets on the aluminum housing of the Mac Pro, and I will.  Tell me to sing lullabies into my USB mouse, and I will.  Tell me to reboot 3 times, and I will.  I've come to that point
I've been experiencing a lot of kernel panics of late.  Probably six kernel panicks today alone.  This was happening on Mountain Lion as well as Mavericks, so I'm not going to jump on that train, but I'm really nearing the end of the easy fixes/obvious solutions to this problem.
    What I've tried / What I think / What I've observed:
I've booted into apple hardware test and ran the long diagnostic, but nothing was found.  I should add that since my computer doesn't have that hidden partition with AHT, I did have to boot off the old Leopard DVD that came with the computer.  Not sure if its age makes a difference.
I've noticed that I can almost always reproduce the problem by downloading at high bandwidth rates.  Today, I had my home internet speed bumped up, and minutes after starting some beefy downloads, the computer kernel panicked.  As soon as it came back up, I resumed the downloads, crashed again.
One of my first thoughts was memory.  I have four 2GB sticks of memory.  I have tried swapping two of the four sticks out.  Still crashed.  Pulled those two out and put in the other two stick, still crashed.
I have a Samsung 840 250GB SSD drive.  I've been running it without TRIM support but just today, installed Groth's TRIM Enabler.  The computer has since crashed.
In addition, when I installed the SSD drive, about a year ago, I had to install the OS from scratch, so while I'm not ruling out any kind of OS corruption, it's not like the install is old.  At the same time, I have to admit that I have not tried re-installing the OS, and if you guys ask me to, I will.
The next thing that I'm thinking of trying, but will be kind of a pain, is to replace the SSD with the original spinny disk, install Mavericks on there, and see how it performs.  Can you guys recommend a good SSD tester to rule out the drive as the issue?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

Since students have come back after summer there has been issues with the 2008 Imacs in one of our rooms, they keep kernel panicking at random intervals.
They all have the same software running, and seem to take it in turn to panic and require a reboot. We get at least one a day, here is 2 reports I've pulled off 2 different macs.
As I say I'm new to macs, so unsure what is causing the panics - can anyone shed any light on this for me?

  • Kernel panick upon startup blue screen

Hey everybody, new to the forum, hoping you all can help me out. I'm using a 15" macbook pro and every time I start it up, I get past the grey apple screen, but as soon as it gets to the blue screen and my mouse appears, I get a kernel panick. This happens every time it starts up. I can use boot camp and boot up in windows, but I am unable to use the OS X side of my hard drive. HELP!

    Hi sig,
    and thanks for the link.
I failed to mention earlier that when i try to start in safe mode, it does the same, first gray logo with spinning circle, and then blue screen.
On repeat, I have a MAC OS X installation disk, which allows me to use the utilities, but doesnt get verified at the end of the installation process.
is the backup and fresh install the only solution left since all listed on that page has already been used? thanks again.
    Madi

  • Kernel panick help

    I was doing a
    pacman -S gnome alsa-lib alsa-oss alsa-util gnome-extras
after a fresh install, and while installing Vimo(or something) it was at 99% and my comp restarted, and now it comes up as a kernel panick. Please help

  • Two identical mac pros, both kernel panicking under heavy load

I have two nearly identical Mac Pros that Ive been using to the scientific calculations. They both have 32GB of OWC (non Apple) memory, 4x 2TB hard drives in RAID 5, and 2x quad core 2.26 GHz Nehalem cpus. Both are running full patched 10.6.2.
On each of them I run a single multithreaded process that gets the cpu usage up to 1500+% and uses 10-20 GB of memory. The process also hits the hard drives pretty heavily (it is java, however, so I'm not doing any odd low level system stuff).
Every few days under this load, one or the other of them will kernel panic. Usually it happens when I also do something else on the machine (like scroll a web browser), but sometimes I wake up and found one has kernel panicked over night. The panics are usually "thread_invoke: preemption_level -1, possible cause: unlocking an unlocked mutex or spinlock" on the process kernel_task, but Ive also had one referring to an error on the RAID card.
On both machines I've run memtest for days on end and it never finds any errors. But if it was a hardware problem I'd expect only one to have problems anyway. Could this be a java problem? No matter how poor my programming is, nothing I do from java should be able to kernel panic the machine, right? Does anyone know of people actually using mac pros under these kinds of conditions?

Using a temperature monitor, I am noticing something odd. Both machines are using about 1500% cpu, but on both machines the temperatures for CPU A are about 10-12 degrees (C) higher than on CPU B. Does this make any sense? What is the safe operating temperature for these machines? I'm seeing ~ 58 degrees C for the CPU A heatsink, and 68 degrees C for the CPU A temperature diode.
If I had to guess, I would say CPUA is the first in line for airflow, meaning it probably has a thicker coating of dust on it.
Dust is an excellent insulator, which unfortunately does not work in your favor.
I would shut the machines down, open them up and carefully inspect for dust.
And don't put your Mac on the floor! It will suck up way more dust than if it's on your desk or off the floor by at least a couple of feet. Dust is evil, and people underestimate it's affects - but if you are pushing your machines, and it sounds like you are, even a light coating of dust can cause uneven temperature spikes and hardware problems. And for the memory too! Apple memory has heatsinks for a reason - ensure they are dust free as well as the CPU heatsinks.

Here is a good troubleshooting site for many Mac OS X issues, the X Lab. There is a section on Kernel Panics and troubleshooting the cause.
Also, you can learn about basic Mac OS X maintenance; the maintenance scripts, properly installed software updates, using Disk Utility, etc.
    Good luck.

  • Macbook pro 2011 keeps kernel panicking intermittently

My new macbook pro keeps crashing every hour to day. I have lost a great deal of work as a result, and this problem is really starting to get aggravating. I have done numerous reinstalls from the lion dmg imaged to a usb drive and this problem will not go away. I have an ssd and have upgraded the ram to 8gb. I ran ram tester in single user mode 4 times and it found now problems. I am at a loss of how to proceed. The following is the kernel panic infomration given on reboot:

It crashed the in Finder due to a Page Fault. That should never happen.
You have multiple virtualization systems loaded, any one of which is capable of causing this crash, especially if they are not absolutely up to date. You should make up your mind and use ONE virtualization system { VMWare, Parallels}.
Anti Virus software is a personal preference, but is it also completely up-to-date?

    Hi, SSI.
Your panic logs reveal an 0x300 trap:
    Unresolved kernel trap(cpu 0): 0x300 - Data access
    and
    panic(cpu 0 caller 0xFFFF0003): 0x300 - Data access
The 0x300 (data access) exception indicates the processor could not perform a data memory access. Potential causes, in general terms, include RAM problems, hard disk corruption, and programming errors. "Programming errors" in this case can include invalid instructions and violations of protected memory, however it is often difficult to differentiate a programming error from a RAM or hard disk problem since the latter two issues can cause a valid instruction to appear invalid.
Unfortunately, no kernel-loadable modules are cited in the Backtrace, so this panic log yields little else in the way of clues. More information on changes you made to your system before the panics arose might help shed more light.
As to troubleshooting, see my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics.
My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, following the instruction in the order specified, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein.
    Good luck!

  • Kernel panick w/usb wifi adaptor

I ran pacman -Syu last night and picked up the new kernel26-2.6.22.1-3 package. Everything updated OK, but on reboot I got a kernel panic concerning my ZD1201 based usb wireless adapter. I unplugged the adapter and everything booted OK.
This USB adapter has a module in the kernel ( ZD1201) but it also seems to requires some firmware files provided here:
    http://linux-lc100020.sourceforge.net/
which I had, prior to installing 2.6.22.1-3, copied over to /lib/firmware
I tried removing those firmware files, and that stops the panic, but it also seems to disable the wireless adapter
So what should I do to resolve this? I can reproduce this kernel panic very easily (plug in the stick). Should I pursue this with the firmware developer? I'm also not sure what information the panic spits out that I should copy down....

    I've got the same problem.
Maybe someone know how to deal with that issue.

  • Slow boot after installing SSD drive + Grub problem + Kernel panicks

    Hey
So i just got a Samsung 840 EVO, and was ready to see my system fly, so i installed Arch on it, the instalation was kinda weird, since im in the middle of some major developing for a startup i couldnt risk to lose time configuring my all system so what i did was this:
Install Arch on the SSD (/root on sdb1) while keeping my  other Arch install (/root on sda5) and sharing the /home and /swap (on sda6 and sda7) between both systems, i installed grub on sdb also because i didnt knew what to do
So now when i boot the laptop i get the grub from sda wich only has Old Arch and windows, if i press f9 at boot and boot from the ssd i go to sdb grub that has Old Arch, New Arch and Windows, since the SSD was instaled via a caddy it doesnt get recognized in the BIOS, but strangely i get 2 Universal Hard Drives (hdd and sdd) when pressing f9
So first question is, should i reeinstall grub on sda or is there a way to put the SDD as primary?
The other problem is that systemd-analyze is giving me worst times than with the hdd, and i dont see a huge improvement with the SSD as i should. Is it because i have /home /swap on the hdd? I have read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Solid_State_Drives and did as told.

You did not share what the kernel panic says, but I guess it has to do with your root file systems not mounted correctly. If it happens like 75% of the time, sounds like you are using /dev/sdax and it gets enumarated differently?  Use UUID's instead.
Your "slow boot" is a seperate problem, see the thread you linked too for how to fix that.
Its a fresh install but i alredy have DE and programs, i used Helmuth script to install all the stuff, just so i didnt forget to install stuff.
No idea what this means, but if it is some third party script downloaded off the internet - use them only if you understand exactly what it does, else the chances are you will run into some problems with no idea how you got there.  For simply keeping a list of packages to install, put them in a text file and pipe them into pacman (see also here.

  • Panicking about kernel panics!

I can't repair this permission. I think it's causing kernel panics?
    Permissions differ on "usr/bin/sqlite3", should be -rwxr-xr-x , they are lrwxr-xr-x .
If it's not this, do you know what might cause a kernel panic. It's kernel panicked once before the most recent OS update, but since that update it's panicked 5 times in 3 days or so. 2 or 3 while watching a video. One DURING the upgrade and one when i finished disk repair. Was closing the window. HELP.

Did you install anything strange the first time it panicked. Were you even doing anything strange?

  • I have a mid 2014 13' retina display MacBook Pro that went into kernel panic twice, the trackpad froze, and after the second kernel panic it will not turn on. This is a two month old laptop with no history of problems. Any ideas?

I purchased it in December and three days ago it kernel panicked twice. After the second event, it will not boot at all. The charge cord is green when it's plugged in and seems to indicate the battery is fine. When it went into kernel panic, the trackpad locked up. I had a technician open it up to see if there were any obvious issues and everything looked ok visually. I can't boot it into safe mode or anything involving powering the machine on, as it is not responding to anything. I have a major test coming up in five days that I am taking on this laptop and am desperate for answers. Any information you can offer at all would be helpful.

    Try SMC and NVRAM resets:

    Ciao.
