Key binding to quit an applescript app as an alternative to 'Force Quit'
Hello,
I have an AppleScript App which is running for a hour. It is basically a GUI scripting.
If I want to quit the app in between, I am unable to use 'Force Quit' as the mouse/key board is extensively used by the app.
I wish to know some alternatives for this issue.
note:
Is there anyway I can bind some key combination and once it is pressed, the app should quit?
+Any suggestions to handle this issue?+
You can quit a script that is saved as an 'application bundle' with another script.
Open the 'application bundle' and drag the 'applet' file between the quotes...
tell application "" to quit
and you will get this, but with a different path.
tell application "/Users/tom/Login Items/ReniceR.app/Contents/MacOS/applet" to quit

I downloaded the iOS7 and I can't force quit the open apps. I was told, "Force-quitting apps is a little different though: Instead of tapping and holding on the icon, you flick a thumbnail up to dismiss it." Unfortunately, that didn't work. Any comments please & thank you
Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Prior to loading 1OS7 it was easy to force quit applications that were still open by double clicking and seeing an a red "x" you had to click on.
It doesn't work that way with the new operating system and the instructions that were given "Force-quitting apps is a little different though: Instead of tapping and holding on the icon, you flick a thumbnail up to dismiss it."
Do not work.
I am looking for anyone who can help figure this out. -
Mac app store runs/searches continuously - force quit
I was notified there is an update through the Mac App Store. However, when I enter the store and then the updates, it continuously searches and never stops (well, for and hour I let it run). I cannot stop the search nor can I install the update I was notified existed. The app must be force-quit to exit as 'Quit' and 'red dot' do nothing. How can I get the app to complete its search and/or install the existing update?
MacBook AirThis procedure will delete certain temporary and cache files used by system processes. The files are automatically generated and don't contain any of your data. Occasionally they can become corrupt and cause problems such as yours.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/var/folders/zz
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with a subfolder named "zz" selected. Move that subfolder to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -
updated to iTunes 10.7 from app Store last night. After the update, iTunes opens then stalls with the "spinning pizza wheel". Force Quit is unresponsive and will not shut it down. If I then open other applications say Safari for example, the problem migrates over to Safari and it similarly stalls and becomes unresponsive. The only way to solve the problem is to manually shut the computer down. This is the most significant problem I have experienced on an apple computer since OSX was introduced because it impacts on Force Quit which means that you have to shut the whole deal down. There are obvious problems for use of Apple TV and apple store etc. ! I am running mountain lion 10.8.1 on a 27" iMac with 2T Time Capsule connected wirelessly. How do I downgrade iTunes back to 10.6? I had no problems with Mountain Lion or iTunes up to that point.
this is the exact same problem i've been dealing with for the past 2 days. after i installed itunes 10.7 for my iphone5 it would crash my mbp's lion system wide. i tried every solution i could find on google and i've actually had to reinstall lion & time machine my backups because of it. right now i'm too scared to redownload itunes 10.7. i actually feel like waiting for the "new itunes" that comes out in october.

How to get an app to run again without forcing quit.
I was working on a paper and have multiple Word windows open. Once I logged on to my computer, I could not use/edit the current window that was open. I opened another window that was minimized and that one did not respond. I opened all of them and they all have the spinning rainbow thing that makes you wait until it loads. I would force quit, but I have unsaved documents (my paper). I did create a document which is saved in a folder on my desktop, but I worked on it since the last time I saved it and I do not know how much I would lose if I forced quit. Is there any way I could close other apps, delete downloads or create space (I am guessing that will help it load) that will allow it to load? I do not remember the last update I installed. I am almost positive I have not updated it from Mavericks to Yosemite.
if you force quit you loose everything. If you have no choice but to force quit your best bet is to restart the computer before you attempt to launch the application again to rule out a corrupt session. If the problem persists it could be a bug in the app, an incompatibility with something else running or permission issue.
reboot, if the problem persists try quitting out of all open applications and repairing permissions
Macintosh HD:Applications:Utilities:Disk Utilities
click your boot drive, click REPAIR PERMISSIONS and let it finish. -
Mail App freezes and won't force quit.
My internet service keeps going out, and this causes my Mail app to freeze. I usually simply force quit, but it won't do that now, and I can't shut the computer down. I'd rather not hard reboot it.
Kerri
I suggest you look at the posts in the pre-tiger OS X discussions, maybe this one and if you can't find anything related re-post your question there.

Apps lock-up, can't force quit...HELP!
I just installed Camino, and now have it as my default browser. I quite like it, but I am having trouble getting it to quit, from the dock, or when it's open.
When I try to shut down, I get error messages that state: Camino will not quit; force quit? or something, and when I choose the force quit option from this message, it still won't quit.
I also get the error msg. 'Logout failed/timed-out/cannot quit MirrorAgent'.
MirrorAgent???? Any suggestions would be most helpful; this board has been my best resource yet! When you installed Camino did you drag the application to your Applications folder, or do you still have the .dmg? If you have the .dmg you may be running it from there. To quit Camino open Utilities/Activity Monitor/MyProcesses, then choose Camino and "Quit Process" from the AM menu bar.

I've been trying to install the CS6 Design & Web Premium on my iMac (running Yosemite), but I keep getting the message that I have to quit "SafariNotificati" to install. I've tried the above methods as instructed on the Adobe site to no avail.
Hey, Adobe, your support sucks. I should be able to call some one about this.are you closing safari and finding anything in your activity monitor about a safari process?
if yes, are you able to terminate those processes? -
Hello, I am creating an AppleScript app and have a button for quitting the app. What is the script so I can quit my app?
ThanksIn your button handler you can use a statement such as:
tell me to quit -- OK
-- or --
current application's NSApp's terminate() -- better
If there isn't anything else that your button handler is doing, you can also just connect it to the application's terminate action (this will work the same as selecting the quit menu item) - in IB, select the Application object, look in the Connection Inspector for the terminate: action, and drag a connection to the button. -
Adding a Key Binding Globally (to an entire JFrame)
Hi, all. I'm trying the ever-so-common task of adding a global key binding to my little Swing app. I just wrote a very basic image converter for an obscure multi-frame format and one of the users requested that I add a simple feature: when control-N is pressed, the a new document is created (just as if the user had selected New from the File menu).
I've read the Swing keybinding tutorial and I've tried to write a method to neatly contain the operation. The method is as follows:
public static void setKeystrokeForAction(JFrame jframe, KeyStroke keystroke, Action action)
jframe.getRootPane().getInputMap(JComponent.WHEN_ANCESTOR_OF_FOCUSED_COMPONENT).put(keystroke, action.getValue(Action.NAME));
jframe.getRootPane().getActionMap().put(action.getValue(Action.NAME), action);
}This doesn't seem to work. I was under the impression that this would somehow allow any component focused in the frame to respond to the specified KeyStroke (in this case, control-N) and react by executing the Action provided (in this case, an action which calls the new document method in my application). However, I press control-N with various focused components and nothing happens.
I know that the Action is sound because selecting the File : New item (which uses the same Action object) works just fine. The KeyStroke is constructed as follows:
KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_N, KeyEvent.CTRL_DOWN_MASK)What am I missing?
Thanks!Don't know why its not working. Its works fine for me in this example:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=57&threadID=312780
Although the example uses WHEN_IN_FOCUSED_WINDOW I also tested it with WHEN_ANCESTOR... and it still worked fine. -
Force quiting apps on iphone bad for logic board???
While visit the apple store this weekend in regards to our phone not working they asked if we double tap the home and slide up on our apps to close them, of force quit the application. We responded yes and were told never to do this. However on previous visits we were told to do this because multiple apps will drain the battery and slow the phone down. I would love to know what the correct answer to this is and understand why we would be told two different things.
Closing apps does not harm anything.
Whoever told you that is mentally challenged. -
I notice alot that when I click on app icon in the dock and choose 'Quit', the application does not quit. I eventually have to go to Force Quit to make it close. Any idea as to why this happening and how to avoid it?
Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Does that change anything? -
Force Quit Won't Work/Epic Lock Ups
So I just recently started having trouble with my Macbook Pro involving applications locking up, and then not being able to force quit. Oh, they pretend to force quit. In fact they show dialogues saying they've quit, and their windows disapear, however in the force quit box, the cmd+tab window, and the dock the apps are all still there.
If I try and do a force quit again from the dock, the finder locks up.
The only fix is to force my computer to reboot, which cannot be healthy doing so much.
Other weird bugs is that once I do this forced shutdown/reboot my external drives will be missing files I previously moved to them (say I moved from drive a to b, after this forced reboot they'll be back on a and not on b)
The only thing I can think that's causing it is I have an external drive that's been acting up and I didn't start having this problem until the drive starting acting up... but I wouldn't think they're related!
Any ideas? I don't want to destroy my computer!

2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 gb 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

True.

Why not? That's the first place I'd look! It's likely your Mac is going nutso (pardon the technical term) trying to talk to a disk that isn't behaving. Eject that drive and see if the problems stop. If they do, back it up immediately if you can. Then try repairing the disk and permissions.
You might also look in your logs. Note the time of an incident, then use the Console app (Applications/Utilities). Click Show Log List in the toolbar, then select Console Messages in the sidebar and navigate to the date & time of the incident.
Most of the messages there are gibberish to us mere mortals, but some may provide a clue or two. Copy a representative sample and post here, if you wish. -
when using my mac book pro, there's a window that comes up saying to force quit applications. i've done the updates cleaned out computer and have taken it in but it wont stop coming up. what can i do?
The force quit window appears when you:
a) type the key combination <CMD> + <OPT> + <ESC>
b) you select the menu item " > Force Quit..."
