Key Chain Nighmare

I am new to the mac and finding that every time I want to use Safari or another app, I am required to enter a PW as requested by the key chain application. Is there any way to stop all key chain activity? Is there any work around to keep this from happening. I am also being asked to log in on start up--I had rather not have to do this either.
Please assist.
Thanks!!

Ye no prob, I'm not 100% sure if there are any Apple tutorials on how to do it, but I will run through it here. If you require further help then of coarse. post here, or if you are having difficulties with my help, you may prefer to email me at [email protected]
1. I would suggest backing up all your data if you have an available drive to do so with. At the very least burn all important files you have created to CD or DVD.
2. Open system preferences, click on accounts. Down the bottom left, if the padlock is locked, click it and enter your password to unlock it, this enables you to edit the options on this preference pane.
3. Just above the lock, click the plus icon. This is now running you through creating a new user. In the "New Account" section, make sure you change standard to Administrator. Then Enter your name. The short name is the name that will be given to your home directory, this appears all over your computer (e.g. in the finder side bar). This cannot be changed once you create the account. If you wish to change it, you must run through this process again to create a new user. Choose your password and hint if you so wish. Enable file vault also, if you desire. If your not sure what file vault is follow this link
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1877.html
4. When your done, click create account. All you have to do now is transfer your files from one user to the other. If you backed up your data, you can transfer them from the backup to the new user.
Alternatively you can do it from within the computer. I find this method can sometimes be a bit tricky as certain privileges many not be enabled for some users. If you do it this way and are having trouble, please do contact me.
5. Once you have successfully created your new user and are happy that you no longer need anything on the original user, go into system preferences, accounts, unlock it if necessary and then select the original user and click the minus icon (beside the plus). Note that you must not be using this user when you try to delete it
That's it, you've started from scratch with a new user. A quick tip, I would always try and transfer the bare minimum of system files from user to user, as the more you do, the less of a clean start you have.
Hope I didn't miss anything

  • I have accidentally deleted my IMAP password from my key chain, therefore i can no longer access my emails using mail.  I can access my email through my Gmail account no problem, so how do i fix this as i cannot remember my IMAP password.

I have accidentally deleted my IMAP password from my key chain, as a result i cannot access my google email using the Mac Mail.  I cannot remember what the password was for IMAP, so can anyone help to resolve this.  i can access my mail by going directly to Google Mail.
    Regards JKG1135

The password for use in the Mail application would be the same password you use when accessing Gmail by using an internet browser. The exception to that would be if you have 2-step verification enabled for Gmail. If that is the case then you would need to use an "application-specific password." If you are using 2-step, you can revoke the previous application-specific password and get a new one as described in https://support.google.com/mail/answer/1173270?hl=en

  • Case insensitive search on subject name to retrieve a certificate from key chain.

    Hi,
I need to find the client certificate from key chain based on the subject name.
Currently, I am using attribute kSecLabelItemAttr and providing the subject name to create the attribute list for the API "SecKeychainSearchCreateFromAttributes" which gives the certificate.
Problem: This certificate search is case sensitive for the subject name.
Question: Is there a way to do a case insensitive search on a subject name to get a certificate on snow leopard? I found the attribute "kSecMatchCaseInsensitive" which works with key "kSecClassCertificate" in the API "SecItemCopyMatching", but the key kSecClassCertificate is only available for 10.7 and later.

    Thanks!

I think there is issue with your logon trigger :
"IF ((USER = 'MyAppUSER') OR(USER = 'MyAppREPORTINGUSER')) THEN"
    it should be :
    IF UPPER(USER) = 'MYAPPUSER' OR UPPER(USER) = 'MYAPPREPORTINGUSER' THEN
because user name stored in Upper case. Check and try.

  • Key Chain will not open any info on items

Hello all. I would be greatful to know how I can fix my Key Chain Items, Passwords, Secure Passwords etc. I can open my Key Chain but when I double click or try to open the Item info nothing happens? I have tried the First Aid but nothing?  Why will the items not open in a window so you can put your password in and get the info contained in the Item???Any Help would be well recieved.  DH

    Try deleting com.apple.keychainaccess.plist.
    Quit the application.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.keychainaccess.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Don't know for sure but select File>Open Library
On the right you will see all the available Libraries (whose names end in ".fcpbundle")
Select the one you want and it should load into FCP X.

  • Having problems with key chain password

I just got my mac book yesterday, and I'm having problems with my keychain password.
My keychain password is not the same as my login password, it won't accept it, so i think i made a typing error.
Each time i go on to safari, it asks for the password, which i don't have. i've tried the key chain first aid, and that still doesn't work. I've also tried keychain access, and that also doesn't work as it asks for the password first!
Is there a way that i can reset it?

There are user passwords and Administrator passwords. The only way to check your keychain password is to be the administrator. In an effort to secure my MacBook, I have an administrator account that I don't use at all and I have a user account that is all I use. It is a great way to protect your MacBook info from others.
As to your question, passwords are case sensitive. You can try to change the password by inserting the CD's that came with your MacBook and reset the password. Seeing that you just got it yesterday, you probably don't have much personal information on it yet, you could use disk utility from the CD and reinstall the Operating System.
    Good Luck.

  • What is "appleidauthagent"? It keeps asking for access to a key chain

When I power up my iMac I get a dialogue box stating that appleidauthagent wants access to a key chain that I do not even have on the computer anymore. I usually hit "Cancel" or waith a minute or so and the dialogue goes away. I am not sure if this causes any problems, but at the very least it is very annoying.
Is there a way to keep this from happening?
    Thanks!

I tried your fix but still didnt stop the popup - however I had to remove the following files as well
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.DotMacSync*.plist.lockfile
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.idisk*.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.idisk*.plist.lockfile
    ~/Library/Preferences/MobileMeAccounts.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/MobileMeAccounts.plist.lockfile
    ~/Library/Prefernces/ByHost/com.apple.coreservices.appleidauthenticationinfo*.plist
    ~/Library/Prefernces/ByHost/com.apple.coreservices.appleidauthenticationinfo*.plist.lockfile
    and then rebooted computer
I believe it is to do with remnant files from mobileme.com, mac.com and iDisk
    problem now solved

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Is Anyone Else Having Problems With Key Chains After Installation?

My installation went ok but I'm having all kinds of problems with Key Chains now that I didn't before. In addition to them being corrupted, it won't let me save corrected names and passwords even when it asks for them.

Is there a fix if you don't have your Key Chains folder from before the 10.6 installation? I keep having to re-type my MobileMe and student Gmail passwords in Mail, and if I check remember password in Key Chain, I keep having to re-type the password until I uncheck the box, but then that means I have re-type the password every time I send an email or put the computer to sleep.
Also, Keychain Access's First Aid shows that there are no problems whatsoever. When I click on MobileMe in my System Preferences I get 8 or so consecutive errors stating "Keychain Error. There was a problem saving to your keychain. Try again or use Keychain Access to verify your keychain." When I look at my login within Keychain Access, it says my MobileMe keychain is restricted (even after entering my administrator password).
