Keyframe interpolation/wobbly keyframe issue

I was recently doing a test video with Trapcode Form. It was fairly simple, the particles behave in a few different ways with a camera getting closer and moving along the particles. However, whenever I try to keyframe the camera movements (either directly using the camera, or parenting it to a Null), I run into a few issues that I can't get rid of. For one, as soon as I activate a keyframe for one aspect of the camera or Null, when I change that aspect, the Preview image doesn't update. The camera will remain as it was, though occasionally it will update when I try to RAM-Preview. If it does work, and I try anything more than just two keyframes, the keyframes don't behave correctly at all. They get the infamous wobble and the camera changes sporadically where there aren't any keyframes. This only applies to Cameras and layers that I parent Cameras to. I don't have the same issue with other 3d layers. I have tried changing the keyframe spatial interpolation to Linear on all the keyframes, but they are either already linear, or it doesn't fix the problem. In my preferences, I even set my default spatial interpolation to Linear, yet still to no avail. I have restarted the project from scratch and still have the same problem every time. I posted this on CreativeCOW and one guy offered to open/render my file to see if it worked on his PC. He said he didn't have any issues, and that it rendered just fine. Any ideas of what the issue could be? I've been searching everywhere and can't seem to find anyone with a similar problem.

First, turn off disk cache. Second, purge everything. Third, restart AE. If that doesn't fix it reboot.
This almost certainly is a cached frames problem and not in some weirdness with the camera movement. If you look at the camera in another view you'll see that the camera is moving properly along it's path.

  • Newb - interpolation of keyframes to ZOOM in smoothly?

I'm new to After Effects and have CS3.
What I simply want to do is zoom in some footage from 100% to 150%.
But I don't want the motion to be linear, I want it to be smooth and ramping up and ramping down so it doesn't look jerky.
Lets say I have my two keyframes, one on frame 01 that says "scale 100%"  and the other a second later that says "scale 150%".    The zoom movement is linear.
How do I change it to what I want ?

See this help section on keyframe interpolation. Should be also valid for CS3.
If you notice any differences in the interface, try Google search.

  • MAJOR bug in Keyframe Interpolation - Motion 3

Motion 3 (and maybe 2) has a severe keyframing problem where it will not allow you to perform proper "ease in" or "ease out" interpolation on keyframes for objects in the canvas. To best illustrate this, I'll explain exactly what I'm doing and how to produce the problem. I would encourage all of you with Motion 3 to try the same thing to see if you can duplicate the problem.
    1) Create a project (NTSC DV is fine) and drop a picture that fills the frame into the canvas.
    2) Align the picture so that the top edge of it is up against the top edge of the frame.
    3) Set a starting keyframe for SCALE and POSITION.
    4) Turn on keyframe recording then change the scale of the image as if you were "zooming in" on it.
    5) Reposition the image down so that its edge is once again up against the edge of the frame.
    6) In the keyframe editor, set your first keyframe's interpolation to "Ease Out" and the last keyframe's interpolation to "Ease In."
    7) Play back your timeline from the beginning. You'll notice that the movement dips the image down then up again in a strange "S" fashion rather than keeping the edge of the image on the edge of the frame. It is almost as if the keyframes for each property aren't aligned on top of one another.
Try it with bezier or continuous interpolation. It does the same thing.
Performing this same move works flawlessly in After Effects.
    Anyone had this problem before?

    hi,
if you want to pin say the top left hand corner...
Do exactly want you said but then in the keyframe editor select all of the keyframes and set their interpolations to Linear. Then it says absolutely still.
You could also perhaps have moved the anchor to the point where you wanted it to lock, then you wouldnt have had to move it as well, only grow.

  • Roving Keyframe Interpolation BLACKED OUT??

I've selected the first, in between and last keyframes of alternating opacity. I want to apply roving keyframe interpolation so that they are equal lengths but the option is blacked out... Wtf?

  • Default Keyframe Interpolation Type?

Is it possible to change the default keyframe interpolation type? Every keyframe I make is bezier and I want them to be linear. Its a huge pita go in and change them all.

Wish you could, but no. You do know you can change the interpolation for all keyframes on a parameter at once by using the animation menu in the keyframe editor? You can also change the interpolation for multiple parameters at the same time by selecting them all first.

  • Seeing the keyframes in the keyframe editor window

When manually adding keyframes in the keyframe editor, why is it that sometimes I see the
keyframes (i.e. dots) and other times, although I know I successfully placed them there because the move is happening correctly in the Canvas, I don't see the keyframe dots there?
I've selected SHOW: ALL in the dropdown.
    I'm working in Motion 3.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

The animation of some parameters do not readily show up in the keyframe editor. Just select the parameter in the inspector, click on it's animation menu, and choose Show in Keyframe Editor.

  • Premiere pro cs 6 - 2 issues;  keyframe interpolation & seeing final keyframe in effects control pan

    #1
I'm zooming and/or panning in on a photograph that has 2 dissolves (1 at the start and 1 at the end). I put a zoom effect by using the Effects Control panel. Keyframe 1 is at the beginning of the picture, or 1st dissolve, and the 2nd keyframe is at the end of the picture, or the 2nd dissolve. At first the zoom/pan is slow and even but then it speeds up about 1/2 way through the 5 second picture. Any suggestions on how to make it more even? I've tried changing the temporal and spacial effect on the keyframes but generally it doesn't work.
    #2
In the effects panel, if I have a keyfram at the very end of the clip I can't see it even by changing the landscape or widening the effects control project window. Again, any suggestions?

    1. Try keyframing before adding transitions.
    2. Unselect Pin to Clip in the panel menu of the Effect Controls.

  • Keyframe interpolation help

OK, so I read Mark Spencer's article and searched the archives to no avail. Take a look at the attached pic:
    http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p220/josephnathan/Keyframes.jpg
I assure you that all keyframes are on "bezier" (I'm looking for the Ease In/Out like in After Effects where it speeds up after first keyframe and slows coming up on second keyframe), but if you look at the transform X and Y parameters, the second keyframe is linear, not bezier. Any ideas?
Also, when talking about Ease In/Out I can't get my mind around what Mark means when he says "it's the next keyframe that gets affected. When you select a keyframe and change its interpolation, you are affecting to curve between the selected keyframe and the next keyframe in time." So do you need a third keyframe at the beginning to affect the second keyframe (which is where you want the pan/zoom to begin)? AARGH! lol
    Thanks
    Jonathan

Right/ctrl-click on the keyframe to set it to bezier... is that what you did?

  • Hold interpolation & square keyframes

Third keyframe should be square shaped. Am I wrong? Why AFX only shows square-shaped KF after adding a keyframe to a previous hold interpolation? Since between second and third keyframes there's no linear interpolation, shouldn't the third KF automatically change to square?
    Thanks.

I can see how that might be confusing. The shape of the keyframe icon is determined at the time that the keyframe is created; changing one keyframe's interploation type doesn't change the icon of the ones around it. If you think that it should, that would make a good feature request.

  • Is there a shortcut, or some way to quickly change keyframe interpolation (Spatial) to "Bezier"?

    I am using CS5
I know there's a shortcut for "Continuous Bezier", but I am just trying to do Bezier, and I'm having to do it ALOT so a shortcut would be handy! I tried searching, and nothing comes up, wondering if there's any way to do this...
I need both handles on the Spatial Keyframes to move independently..

In the timeline graph editor of in the composition? Either way I press the G key and use the Cmnd/Ctrl key modifyer to make the adjustments. I think you're talking about the Comp Window motion paths. Here's a quick, and because it's very noisy in here right now, silent video tut on manipulating the bezier handles in the comp window. Pay attention to the modifier keys.

  • Easy way to set interpolation on keyframes?

Say you have text flying in using scale and you want it to start out fast and slow down. When you go in and select Bezier for interpolation, you have to set the curve for the x,y,and z parameters. It is hard to select the right parameter and you have to end up turning the other two off to select the right one. Is there a way to select all (x,y,z) and move the Bezier curve for all at once?
    Thanks,
    John

just drag-slect the point in the KF editor. All 3 KF will be selected and u can ctrl click it for bezier. They'll be all 3 set and u can drag the handle for all 3.
In Motion u always have to drag select them to have them all.

  • Keyframe interpolation....

Hey guys, I am a newer livetype user. I am trying to make some titles fly in from off screen right or left. My problem is I can get them to smoothly come to a stop. I've messed with the "accelerate" function, but it still has an abrubt stop. I know there has to be a way to fix this. Any ease in functions or anything like that? Thanks for your help...

Have you tried the Accelerate with a negative number? It slows down the effect for me.< </div>
Cool, Bob. I've got to try this! (Never even occurred to me.)

  • How do you snap a keyframe to another keyframe?

    Hello everyone.
I've looked and looked but can't find a decent way to do this.
Say you've made a whole bunch of keyframes and you are viewing them in the Effect Controls window.
You have keyframes in multiple fields, e.g. speed, start point, end point, detail, branching. (these are fields in the Lightning effect used as an example)
Now, what I want to do is be able to align these keyframes, so that they occur on the same frame.
I realise it's better to set the keyframes out in the right place at the start, but that doesn't always happen when editing.
Is there a way to get a keyframe to snap to another keyframe, or the timeline current frame slider thing?
Also, is there any way to see what frame/time a keyframe is occuring at? The only way I've found to be able to do that is to hold shift to snap the timeline current frame slider to the keyframe to see the frame number etc.
Which means if you are trying to align keyframes you have to shift drag the slider between the keyframes to check the frame numbers to get them the same. Not ideal. You should be able to view the time/frame number, and just type in a new one if you want.
Any suggestions? Maybe I'm going about it all the wrong way, I'm just kinda used to Flash and 3dsMax keyframing which appears to have a lot more control.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
Colin, That method will do just fine. cheers.
I can't believe I didn't even try the old cut and paste approach. :)
It is a little bit of a scary method as you could delete keyframe, but I suppose with the undo and history, it should be safe enough, assuming it doesn't crash mid-process.
I am presuming that Premiere doesn't save the history and undo's when you save a project or it auto saves.
I'm a big fan of After Effects, it's a really good product that rarely gives me that feeling of it not allowing me to do what I want to do, but Premiere seemed deliberatly crippled. I suppose it's because you are supposed to use both of them together.
When I was in University this wasn't a problem as the Uni had both products, but the company I work for now can't justify the expense for After Effects for what it is we do.
Still, after evaluating both Sony Vegas Pro 8 and Premiere Pro CS 3, I think Premiere is winning.
Now, if only I can somehow convince the company to buy the Production Premium suite. :)
    Thanks for your help guys.

  • Zoom Speed Variation

I'm new to After Effects I've been struggling for a few days trying to get a smooth "zoom" in on a JPG photo. I keyframe the in point, go to the keyframe out point.and using "Scale" and "Position" zoom in the picture. When I render it the zoom starts out very fast and then slows way down by the end. I've tried adjusting "Keyframe Velocity", "Keyframe Interpolation" and "Keyframe Adjustments" to no avail.
Is there any way to make the zoom at the same rate across the entire movie?

Do exactly what you have done. Then select Scale in the timeline. Then go to Animation>Keyframe Assistant>Exponential Scale.
This will set a keyframe at every frame and change the speed of the zoom effect to one that's more natural.
The other option would be to turn the layer into a 3D object, add a camera to the composition, and then animate the position of the camera.

  • Position keyframes for titles not acting properly; keep moving backwards near end keyframe

I have no clue what in teh world is going on here. i will set a keyframe in the beginning for the titles initial start point. Move ahead 2 seconds. Set a keyframe. Move the title to where I want it. Play it back, and then right before the end keyframe, the title will go the complete opposite direction if I have another keyframe ahead of it I want it to go to. So yeah, it moves back then moves forwards to the next keyframe. Please help me understand this lunacy.

Having recently encountered this issue, I searched the web for a solution and stumbled upon this thread, which to my surprise was not only left unanswered, but also seemed to be the only search result that was directly relevant to my problem.  Luckily, I was able to adapt some advice from a similar situation.  Since I finally discovered a solid method, I figured I would offer my knowledge to anyone else treading the same path as me.
I guess they call something like this a "wobbly" keyframe.   In After Effects, someone gave the advice to right click and change the temporal interpolation to LINEAR.  In premiere, I noticed that they were ALREADY linear, but then I recalled Shooternz post about a spatial ease.
Highlight ALL the keyframes, right click, then select Spatial Interpolation and click on Linear.  This should solve the issue.  You can then add eases and such to meet your goals.
I knew from the beginning that it must have been an invisible knot in the bezier curves.  I pulled the bars in every direction, but all it did was tighten or loosen the knot, causing the motion to speed up or slow down, but it would always hit the knot and reverse before continuing forward. You know how Illustrator will create crazy-looking lines when you try to add too many points with strong curves?  Well the same logic applies to this, but Premiere has a much more difficult interface when dealing with bezier curves.  In other words, by getting rid of the extra curves instead of trying to fix them like you can in Illustrator, it fixes the problem much more easily.
I hope I helped to clarify the issue and help you understand the logic of what went wrong, so you can move on now and perhaps adapt this knowledge to future obstacles.
