KEYFRAMING IN MOTION

I am running into a couple roadblocks when im keyframing in motion
sometimes it allows me to "add keyframe" and sometimes the option is greyd out...i cant tell what the criteria are to allow me to add a keyframe
also
could anyone tell me what the keyboard shortcut for adding a keyfram is if its not on an apple keyboard
thanks

Jon, if you look in the manual, you'll see that the shortcut for add keyframe is CTL+K. However, I've not found that very helpful as it adds keyframes only to the last modified parameter of the selected object. Since you can modify lots of different parameters for any particular object, using that shortcut can be troublesome.
Instead, what I prefer is to OPT+CLICK the keyframe indicator for the parameter I'm trying to change in the inspector (it's the little dash to the right of the parameter).
If you make sure that the record keyframes function is on (A), then simply changing a parameter will place a keyframe.
Also, don't forget about behaviors. It's not quite intuitive to those of use who learned on Avid, FCP, and After Effects, but if you can open your mind to it, behaviors can create some really complex movements without using keyframes at all. It's probably one of the most powerful features of Motion.

  • Flash CS5 crashes while inserting a keyframe in Motion Editor

When I try to insert a keyframe in Motion Editor, Flash CS5 crashes.
I tried to use two computers running the same Mac OS X 10.5.8 with the same specs and only one of the machines crashes.
    Any ideas?

Is it any FLA on that machine?  As in, you can open a brand new FLA with nothing in it, draw a square, turn it into a tween, and inserting any keyframe in the motion editor crashes Flash?  That said, since you cannot reproduce on another system that's identical, it sounds like something went wrong in the install process.  I'm not sure what it might be, as we haven't encountered that kind of problem internally (or a crash on property keyframe insert).

  • FCX & FCP:  Keyframing and Motion Path

I need to find out if keyframing and motion paths are accomplished pretty much the same way in FCP as in Express. Someone is going to help me with keyframing and motion paths but works only with Final Cut Pro. Anyone know if that will be a problem?
    Thanks.
    Lee

Your FCP person should know how to do this in FCP.
I believe he does, and I think I can figure out that part of it (eventually) in FCX.
The "walking forward" means that, at the same time the image is scaling up, the right front lower corner of the image moves forward, then the left front lower corner moves forward, etc giving the appearance of the image "walking." I don't know if that makes any sense. What's more, I don't even know if it is possible in FCX.
It was suggested I start the image as a square or rectangle and change it into a trapezoid giving the illusion of its "moving." While I understood it as a theory when explained, actually doing it in FCX is another story.

  • Pasting keyframes in Motion 3 causes it unexpectedly quit.

I've only just begun using Motion, sadly, so I am still fairly unfamiliar with it. However, whenever I select a key frame, copy it, then try to paste it in the Keyframe Editor window, Motion will unexpectedly quit. Since I am working with Motion 3, I assumed there may have been some threads about this, I just can't seem to find them. Can anyone help?

    hi,
up and down arrows? really I've not seen that interesting. To record a keyframe you can do a number of things. One thing is to turn on the big red record button, move the playhead to where you want it in the timeline, and then move the object to where you want it. Motion automatically records the keyframes for you. You can even do this as its playing to record it in real time if you like. More more control you can also add keyframes by hand from the inspector window. Some time with the manual will help with this, it explains it pretty well

  • How to turn off automatic keyframing in motion 5.0.2?

    Hello,
I've just updated to Motion 5.0.2 and now, everytime I move an object, all the parameters (scale, position, rotation) start to create keyframes, while most of the time I don't want that (that's why you turn on the recorder, right?). Is there a way to turn that off again? It's very frustrating.
    Kind regards, Pepijn

    that's very interesting...
why do you need a single keyframe and have the object NOT do anything else in the play range?
In my copy of M5 .2, if I set a position keyframe, the only keys automatically created are positions. For scaling, I had to manually add a scaling key to start recording scales.  Automatic keyframing does not fire keys for position, scale, rotation, etc., unless I start one.
However, they will automatically keep recording while playing the timeline (just as if Record is enabled). According to the manual:
    Choose Mark > Recording Options.
Select “Don’t Record keyframes during playback.”
And motion will not record changes while the project is playing.
Also, it is still possible to move the entire keyframe/motion path. Command-option click anywhere on the path and you can drag it around. You can drag around only segments of the path by simply clicking on the path between two keyframes and reposition it. Etc... (it's all in the manual.)
If I switch over and use the "Record Method", then the "Initial Keyframe" method is not used.
And, if you just need to start over without keyframes, there's the Transform reset button which clears all keyframes in a click.
It all seems very cool to me.

  • MAJOR bug in Keyframe Interpolation - Motion 3

Motion 3 (and maybe 2) has a severe keyframing problem where it will not allow you to perform proper "ease in" or "ease out" interpolation on keyframes for objects in the canvas. To best illustrate this, I'll explain exactly what I'm doing and how to produce the problem. I would encourage all of you with Motion 3 to try the same thing to see if you can duplicate the problem.
    1) Create a project (NTSC DV is fine) and drop a picture that fills the frame into the canvas.
    2) Align the picture so that the top edge of it is up against the top edge of the frame.
    3) Set a starting keyframe for SCALE and POSITION.
    4) Turn on keyframe recording then change the scale of the image as if you were "zooming in" on it.
    5) Reposition the image down so that its edge is once again up against the edge of the frame.
    6) In the keyframe editor, set your first keyframe's interpolation to "Ease Out" and the last keyframe's interpolation to "Ease In."
    7) Play back your timeline from the beginning. You'll notice that the movement dips the image down then up again in a strange "S" fashion rather than keeping the edge of the image on the edge of the frame. It is almost as if the keyframes for each property aren't aligned on top of one another.
Try it with bezier or continuous interpolation. It does the same thing.
Performing this same move works flawlessly in After Effects.
    Anyone had this problem before?

    hi,
if you want to pin say the top left hand corner...
Do exactly want you said but then in the keyframe editor select all of the keyframes and set their interpolations to Linear. Then it says absolutely still.
You could also perhaps have moved the anchor to the point where you wanted it to lock, then you wouldnt have had to move it as well, only grow.
    regards

  • Keyframe Issue Motion 3 - bezier keyframes turned into linear

    Hello,
I have made a camera movement with a few behaviors and converted it into keyframes.
It took me a very long time to adjust the (bezier) keyframes, but I ended up with a really nice and smooth movement.
My problem is: when I quit my project and open it again, the curve of the parameters seems like one with linear keyframes. When I select a keyframe, the interpolation IS actually bezier. But there are NO tangents.
My solution is to use the Reduce Keyframes... tool on every curve and increase the Smoothing Factor. But it doesn't exactly recreates the curve I made before quitting.
    Does anybody recognize this problem?
    Bram

Hi, that must be the problem!
After unlocking the camera layer (and individually locking the keyframes, don't want to mess up my work) and restarting Motion no strange things happened.
With Google I couldn't find any reports of this error, but thanks for the clarification!
    B.

  • Removing keyframes from motion tracking

I have this video that I perform Analyze Motion to, then Match Move what I want to attach.
Trouble is, the Analyze Motion is just a little bit too jittery for my liking. What I'd like is to do a match move but only have every other (or every 3rd) keyframe used, to smooth out the movement.
Is there a way to do this, or to knock out every other keyframe from the Analyze Motion?

The best way to "smooth" a track is to use the Average parameter behavior. Apply it to the same layer that has the Analyze motion (or any other tracking behavior). Set the "Apply To" parameter to the Track result(s) that need smoothing. I would recommend using one instance for each axis (X/Y) for each track. This will give you better control since in many cases you may need different degrees of smoothing.
Be aware, average reduces the accuracy of the tracks, so you may encounter some drift or decreased accuracy. If you really want to remove every X number of frames, you would need to do this manually in the keyframe editor. Before you do that, I'd make a copy of the tracking beahvior. If you remove keys from the behavior and don't have a duplicate, you'll have to reanalyze.

  • FCP7 Speed change with keyframes on motion tab

I am trying to change the speed of my video in FCP7 with keyframes. I am cueing where I want the speed change to begin and clicking on the motion tab in the
viewer. next I change the speed percentage and click a keyframe then I cue on my timeline to where I want the speed to go back to 100% and click the keyframe button in the motion tab. I render it to see it and the whole clip in the timeline is in slow motion. This does not coincide with what I am trying to achieve. Just want to start out 100% speed then go to 50% speed then back to 100% speed then the clip ends. Thanks.

that's probably way overkill in terms of the quality of material shot on an iphone.  Is that the pixel dimensions of the original file from the iphone?
What's your end use for this material?  The web?  DVD?
And what are your sequence settings?  make the timeline active and hit command-zero.  in one of your posts you said 720 30p .  30p is actually 29.97 frames per second.
Because this is a non standard format, you may need to convert them to match your sequence settings.  First thing to do is to take them into cinema tools and conform the clips to 29.97.  This will slow them down slightly but there is no loss in quality.  Each frame remains the same, they are just played slower.  It may not work with this format, so you may need to convert them to a standard format as I said above.
If you still have the original files from the iphone, going back to them to do these conversions may be the best way to maintain quality.
If you have a short clip directly from the iphone and would like me to do a quick test of the (hopefully) best workflow, I would then be able to describe it to you concisely.

  • Copying keyframes in motion parameters

Sometimes it might be necessary that you need the same values from one keyframe for a new one. Is it possible to copy keyframes (eg scale, rotation, center, opacity etc) to new keyframes?
For example: Made a keyframe in the timeline for CENTER (-45,73 -36,69). Then 5 keyframes further I need a CENTER-keyframe with the same value. How can I copy it?
I hope you'll understand. My English is not too good. Thanks in advance.

Control-K sets keyframes in every category of Scale, Crop, Distort. It's much faster than having to click the mouse button when you have more than just one parameter. But if you are just adjusting the Center value then there's not much time savings.
I can't tell you what workflow will work best for you, but if I had to set multiple keyframes, and a number of them had the same parameters then I would quickly set all of them with the same parameters. After which I would go back and adjust the ones that varied, but that's just me.
If you wanted to copy keyframes from one clip to another clip you could do so by copying the clip and then pasting attributes [basic motion]. I do not know of a way to copy a keyframe from one portion of a clip and pasting it into the same clip

  • Keyframes and motion control

I would appreciate sources of information that would explain Motion Effect/Keyframes to a nonprofessional.  I have read three books and can't get an understanding.  For an example:  If i change the motion controls position from 360 725 to 360 240, what am I doing?  I would appreciate any help or reference material.  Arnie

First, here is a TUTORIAL on basic Keyframing. It was written for an earlier version of Premiere, not Elements, but covers the basic theory.
Now, in your example, think of the Video Frame as a picture frame. It is fixed on the wall, and you have a picture inside of it, but can see nothing outside of that frame, only what is inside of it. What you are doing with Effect>Motion>Position is moving the picture behind that Frame. Same with Motion>Scale. Now, with keyframing, you can alter the position of your picture behind the frame over time.
    Hope that this helps.

  • Setting the last keyframe while motion tweening - cs4

I understand how to use the motion editor to move my objects and how flash will auto-keyframe a little diamond in the timeline.
But what if i already had all my keyframes already laid out? I've been manually moving the last keyframe (diamond) in the light blue tweened area to match the next keyframe (circle) in my timeline.
i have ~20 layers and many keyframes so this is getting tedious. Is there a better way to accomplish this?
    Thanks

Can you post an example of what you are doing? Are you moving the keyframe along the timeline? You can select a keyframe in the timeline and then push or pull it to a different frame. This should change the length of the tween, but it will not change the duration of the timeline. If your timeline was 250 frames long and you move the second keyframe from 250 to 225, then the whole movie will still be 250 frames long, but the tweened part will only be 225 frames.
If you've been using Flash for a while and are used to the previous versions of tweening, you can still use those methods. That's a classic tween.

  • Motion crashing each time I modify keyframes in editor

Every time I try to modify one of the parameters of keyframing in Motion's editor, it crashes and I need to reboot. Everything else seems to function normally, with this only specific exception.
I was wondering if anyone was experiencing the same or had some fix. I'm on 2 Gig RAM.
    Thank you!

So - one day on the Pro Video support line, two trips to the Apple Store and one replacement machine later, I have an answer that may help if you have an ATI graphics card.
There seems to be an issue between Motion and ATI video cards when it comes to the Keyframe Editor. I have the ATI Radeon X1900 card, but this Keyframe Editor problem was replicable in a Macbook Pro with an ATI card as well. We tested it across several machines in the store and it was just the ones with ATI in the video slot that had this problem.
There is not a solution for this at this time, but there is a fairly simple workaround rule:
Always start keyframing on any object with the Record button - you will then be able to use the Keyframe Editor to modify the keyframes of that object. You can even add keyframes to the object and modify those - however, if you do this and then start to modify another object that hasn't been started off with keyframes from the Record button, you will have the same hard freeze issue. Seemingly, it is as simple as that.
I have Motion working fine on my machine and have yet to have the problem repeat if I follow this rule.
I have not, however, tried this in modifying behaviors or particles with keyframes, but I suspect if you hit Record and modify the values in the Inspector, you should get the same result.
Keep posting any problems that persist, as Apple is being made aware of the issue by the techs at the SF store. Gotta say they were pretty persistent in getting to the bottom of this and finding a workaround, especially Michael in the Business unit - thanks to all!

  • Premiere Motion:Position keyframes ghosted

I am new to editing in Adobe Premiere, and am running CS5. I am attempting to create a Flash banner that features a short segment of video content.
I am attempting to animate a small pan, moving my movie clip up slightly and then to the right.
I set my clip to Motion:Position expecting to be able to Keyframe the motion of my clip. However the Keyframe control, whilst present, is ghosted out.
How do I Keyframe the position of my movie clip?
    Any and all help appreciated.

Click on your clip, move the timeline to the start of the move sequence and then in your Motion>Position
click the clock to the left of the word Position. Move the time line along to the
position you want the movement of the clip to end and then either change the coordinates in Motion>Position or grab the video in the Program Monitor and move it to the desired place.
