KeyStore/ Certificates stored by the JRE Runtime
Hi!
I use this code
KeyStore ks = KeyStore.getInstance("pkcs12");
ks.load(new FileInputStream("test.p12", "password".toCharArray());
to load a certificate for signing a PDF with the help of iText. The code works fine.
The same certificate was imported via Java Control Panel (Tab Certificates) into the JRE/System.
Can I access the certificates stored in the JRE/System for signing, instead of loading the certificate directly?
The Java API for Keystore says:
Before a keystore can be accessed, it must be LOADED.
and LOADED ist linked to the method ks.load()
There is not hint for accessing the JRE certificates.

if you have a support or CSI then you can log a bug against them for oracle to support you..
Or you can wait for some product manager here to respond to this and they will take it forward from there to resolve the issue by creating internal SR or bug for you.

Wrong JRE Runtime Lib Path on Win2K--Admin Server Won't Start
Running Sun One Web Server 6.0 SP6 on a Windows 2000 server, I inadvertently entered a typo in the iPlanet Administration Server's Global Settings, "Configure JRE/JDK Paths" link.
In the "JRE Runtime Lib Path" field I typed "jjk1.3.1_03" instead of "jdk1.3.1_03". Now the Sun One web server won't start, so I can't go into the Administrative Server to fix the Jre Runtime Lib Path. I havent' been able to find any file where I can change that erroneous setting either. Is it a Registry entry?
I also tried adding the correct JRE Runtime Lib Path at the end of the Windows PATH environment variable on the server, but that didn't help.Yes we checked the Registry settings and fixed the typo in the path associated with the key NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH. That should have fixed the problem, but the Sun One web server still wouldn't start.
Moved to plan B and removed then reinstalled the Sun One web server. Now it starts and all is well.
Thanks for helping everyone. This also raised the issue for us of whether or not we are entitled to individual support from Sun since we paid for the Sun One web server. According to the web site, the answer is NO - unless we pay $3,000 for a support contract. Other vendors who recommended using Sun One with their products say YES. We're still tracking that down. -
Where is the certificate stored?
In my jnlp file, I have set

<all-permissions/>
</security>
So the first time the user attempts to use the jnlp file, the user is asked if they would like to accept the certificate. After they have done so, where is that certicate stored? In a cacerts file? If so, which one?You may get certificates as "EC" (meaning Extension, certificate) or "AC" (meaning Application Certificate).
Some earlier versions of javaws had a bug where they are allwase put in as "EC"

Now select the FM EXIT_SAPLRSAP_001 if your datasource is transactional dataource
EXIT_SAPLRSAP_002 for master data attibute
EXIT_SAPLRSAP_003 for Hierarchies
EXIT_SAPLRSAP_004 for text
then populate code .
After your code then delete data from ods then reinit to populate the enhanced field.

Installation the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux

I´m trying to install an ECC 6.0 SR3 (ABAP) on RHEL v.5 with Oracle DB.
But as I am newbie I have some doubts, in this point is with the Java Version JRE that is required in sap installion process.
I already installed the JRE through RPM Package File (I followed the instructions/steps described in this url - http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/jre/install-linux.html ) and I don´t have any problem... by the way I installed the JRE version 1.4.2_25 b02.
But after the installation I had a question, how do I check if the package was installed correctly? I insert the commad java -version, and the result was this:

This server has a x86_64 bit architecture, where is related to IBM? I did not understood that sorry... and the component that is installed is 1.4.2 JDK with last version which is 25 to x64 bit (for my x86_64 architecture) ... Forgive my ignorance here, but I don´t understand Markus! Where there is a relationship with the AMD64 architecture? If you are correct... if this is a AMD64 therefore I have to download new installation media DVD´s for this installation for AMD64 architecture, isn´t it? Because all the dvd's that I have here to install this system is refer to the version x86_64!

This is all the same. AMD invented the "64bit extension" for their x86 CPUs, later Intel licensed that extension. All those terms are synonyms.
So if
java -version
does not give you the IBM JDK your installation will fail.
If you check the PAM (http://service.sap.com/pam) you'll see that for 64bit Linux (AMD64, x86_64, x64) only the IBM JDK is supported because Sun has no 64bit JDK for this (ancient) version 1.4.2 for Linux x86_64.

This means that I have about 5,9 Gb of RAM memory?
That means that you have 5,9 GB of SWAP. You get your total memory using the command "free" or use the command "top".
If I need to allocate more memory, as sap recommends 2xRAM, with 8 GB of RAM, how can I do that, in installation guide it tell me to go read the manual for linux... what documentation?!
Honestly, this here is not the place to learn Linux.

Problem using SmartCard with 2 Certificates stored and SunPKCS11
Hi,
I'm trying to access one SmartCard token in Java 1.5 using SunPKCS11 provider for crypt, decrypt and digital signature operations.
I have 2 certificates stored on Token:
- CertA;
- CertB.
There are also 2 PIN:
- PIN1;
- PIN2.
I use:
- PIN1 for logging into the token;
- PIN1 for operation involving CertA;
- PIN2 for operation involving CertB;
There is no problem to logging into the token using Java and, without any troubles, I can read certificates and key from the
cryptographic card.
There is no problem using CertA for all my operation, but every attempt of using Private Key of CertB (for the same operations) returns with an Exception:

Attn: Sun. Can we distribute the JRE with a program we write?
I'm trying to find out whether it's legal to distribute the JRE with a program I write. If you look at the license agreement when you download the JRE, first it has the regular license agreement, which says that you can't. But then it has the "supplemental" license agreement (and it says that this "modifies" the regular license agreement). In section 2 of the supplemental license agreement, it quite clearly states that you can as long as you don't modify it and you include some little messages in your documentation.
So I'm hoping to get an answer from someone who actually works for Sun. It seems pretty clear to me that we ARE allowed to distribute the JRE with a program, but people keep sending me emails when I tell them about it - saying things like "You can't program in Java because you can't distribute it."
What I want to do is have an installation program that installs my game and then installs Java (with Sun's JRE installer - this is included ONLY so that it can run my game, as stated in the supplemental license agreement). I should also mention that I do actually intend to SELL this program, so if that's a problem, please say so. Anyways, could someone from Sun tell me whether this is allowed or not? I don't want to break the law.

To run your application, a user needs the Java 2 Runtime Environment,
which is freely available from Sun for application developers to
redistribute.
The final step in the deployment process occurs when the software is
installed on individual user system. Installation consists of copying
software onto the user's system, then configuring the user's system
to support that software. You should ensure that your installation
procedure does not overwrite existing JRE installations, as they may
be required by other applications.

Redistribution of Java 2 SDK Files
The limited set of files from the SDK listed below may be included in
vendor redistributions of the Java 2 Runtime Environment. All paths
are relative to the top-level directory of the SDK.
- jre/lib/cmm/PYCC.pf
Color profile. This file is required only if one wishes to
convert between the PYCC color space and another color space.
- All .ttf font files in the jre/lib/fonts directory. Note that the
LucidaSansRegular.ttf font is already contained in the Java 2
Runtime Environment, so there is no need to bring that file over
from the SDK.
- jre/lib/audio/soundbank.gm
This MIDI soundbank is present in the Java 2 SDK, but it has
been removed from the Java 2 Runtime Environment in order to
reduce the size of the Runtime Environment's download bundle.
However, a soundbank file is necessary for MIDI playback, and
therefore the SDK's soundbank.gm file may be included in
redistributions of the Runtime Environment at the vendor's
discretion. Several versions of enhanced MIDI soundbanks are
available from the Java Sound web site:

These alternative soundbanks may be included in redistributions

Unlimited Strength Java Cryptography Extension
Due to import control restrictions for some countries, the Java
Cryptography Extension (JCE) policy files shipped with the Java 2 SDK,
Standard Edition and the Java 2 Runtime Environment allow strong but
limited cryptography to be used. These files are located at:
<java-home>/lib/security/local_policy.jar
<java-home>lib/security/US_export_policy.jar
where <java-home> is the jre directory of the Java 2 SDK or the
top-level directory of the Java 2 Runtime Environment.
An unlimited strength version of these files indicating no restrictions
on cryptographic strengths is available on the Java 2 SDK web site for
those living in eligible countries. Those living in eligible countries
may download the unlimited strength version and replace the strong
cryptography jar files with the unlimited strength files.
Endorsed Standards Override Mechanism
An endorsed standard is a Java API defined through a standards
process other than the Java Community Process(SM) (JCP(SM)). Because
endorsed standards are defined outside the JCP, it is anticipated that
such standards will be revised between releases of the Java 2
Platform. In order to take advantage of new revisions to endorsed
standards, developers and software vendors may use the Endorsed
Standards Override Mechanism to provide newer versions of an endorsed
standard than those included in the Java 2 Platform as released by Sun
Microsystems.

Classes in the packages listed on that web page may be replaced only

I have written program that I want to run on a computer that doesn't contain the Java Runtime Environment.
I am not sure how to go about this but i think it is possible by storing the JRE in a jar file along with the source code of the program, but I don't know what environment variables to use and how to implement them correctly in a batch file.I guess you could try embedding the JRE. Here are a few pitfalls though. In general I think you're better off letting your clients install the JRE for themselves.

1. Dramatically increases the size of your deliverables
2. The JRE will only be compatible with 1 OS
3. Clients won't be able to click on jar files and have them run -

I'm trying to get Eclipse TPTP to work. One of the steps I need to execute is to run a setConfig.bat file. When I ran it, I got the following error:
ERROR: The Java Runtime in use does not contain a suitable JAXP feature
RESOLUTION: Use a JRE which supports the JAXP featureI use Eclipse Europa, and it is using my JDK (actually JRE) 1.6.0_05. That should mean I have JAXP in my JRE (which is confirmed when I search on JAXP from the directory C:\Program Files\Java containing jdk1.6.5_05 and jre1.6.5_05 directories).
Is there something extra I need to do to let Eclipse and TPTP find my JAXP classes?

I have an iMac as my home computer, upgraded to this about a year ago from a windows pc and love it.
However...
I have a HP Compaq laptop that i am running with Windows Vista, which I use when travelling. A while ago, I believe on an update, to either windows or itunes, it stopped running iTunes and comes up with the error : Runtime Error: R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
I have a reasonable amount of tunes stored on my laptop, and am unable to ascertain as to whether this fix for allowing itunes to work again will delete my music folder and lose all the tunes i have on my laptop already?
The contents of my music folders on my laptop and iMac are not the same, as they are not synced!
Any help please on this would be appreciated!

I've run into some persistent problem with seemingly any version of the JRE on my WinXP system. Whenever I try to start the control panel, either from the Windows Control Panel UI, or from the Java system tray icon, I get an exception error:

This is what happens on the first attempt after the OS has booted, and subsequent attempts just result in nothing obvious happening (no control panel, no error, nothing).
I currently have JRE 1.6.0_07-b06 installed, but this seems to be happening with any JRE version I try. I had remnants of older JRE's under C:\Program Files\java, and I went through ensuring that each was removed (if I could get rid of it via Add/Remove Applications, I used that) until I was down to zero other than the MS JVM that is inherently part of Windows. I then installed the current Sun JRE and still have the problem. :-\ So not sure what it is the JRE control panel is trying to do here, nor how to fix it other than reinstalling the OS (and I'm not that desperate, but it really is annoying).
I figure it's probably something still hanging around in the Registry (<shudder!>) and poking around under HKLM\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft, I see keys for various old versions under the \Java Plug-in, \Java Runtime Environment, and \Java Web Start keys, most of which look like references to directories or files which no longer exist on the system. Any thoughts as to whether I can just safely delete these keys as a sanity check (jeez I wish Sun had steered clear of the Registry)? What I'm wondering is since the JRE control panel (when it works :-) shows you a list of installed JREs it found, I'm wondering if these bogus versions listed in the Registry are causing the ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException.
