Keywording multiple images stops working

I updated Aperture to v.1.5.6 today, and now I cannot apply keywords to a selected batch of referenced master files by dragging a keyword to one of the selected images from within the keyword HUD.
Doing so applies the keyword only to the image on which the keyword is dropped.
I was successfully keywording batch sets of images with this methodology yesterday (before the update).
Can anyone else verify?
Thanks,

Ah... suppose that was a case of RTFM.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it!

  • Adding keywords to multiple images stopped working

    When I was first using Aperture, I was able to select multiple images and add a keyword in the metadata area, and they keyword would apply to all the images. After a few months, it started to only apply the keyword to ONE of the selected images (whatever was the last one selected). Ever since, I've had to use the lift and stamp tool instead, but that's vastly more of a pain.
    A friend who also uses Aperture still is able to select multiple images and have the keyword apply to all, and he has the latest version of Aperture. The feature worked with all his versions of OS X 10.4, and now with Leopard too.
    So what gives? Anyone know if there's any way to fix this?

    Yes, there's a way to fix this. Press 'S'.
    This toggles something called 'Primary Only' which controls whether all selected images are keyworded, rotated etc. or just the image with the thicker white border.
    You can also change it via Edit>Primary Only where you will see a checkmark if it's active, and also via the control strip at the bottom of the window, just to the left of the rotate buttons.

    P.S. I can recommend downloading the podcasts from http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/aperture/, one of the ones with Joe Schorr specifically goes through Primary Only among other things.

  • Keywording multiple images

    Aperture is making me crazy. As soon as I ressolve on problem (usually with a workaround rather than a solution) another one pops up. Today it's about keywording multiple images.
    The manual says I can select a group of images and drag a keyword from the Keyword HUD to apply it to all of the images. But, it doesn't happen. I'm looking at 500 or so images that need multiple keywords applied to them all, but Aperture will only apply the keyword to one image no matter how many I have selected. Surely this cannot be right, but no matter what I do I seem to be able to apply a keyword to only one image at a time.
    I purely hat this application. Hate, hate, hate, hate. Been trying to develop a usable workflow for weeks and it's just not happening.

    Well, I have a bunch of cameras, and I also do photo restorations (typically pre 1900) for local families out here in the wilderness. The camera that is on my hip all day is just a little Canon A1100 IS, and the JPEGs it produces rarely need anything that Aperture can't handle. I have a couple of Nikons that I use locally, but the really problematic camera that I use a lot is a Fuji HS10. I'm too old to be lugging lenses and heavy bodies up and down mountains, and I frequently find myself on a ledge with a 100 to 1000 foot drop off and not enough room to put both feet side by side. The camera makes a decent picture, but noise is an issue as is lens correction.
    The workflow from this camera that I would prefer to use is that I would like to import RAW images directly from the camera into Aperture, naming the project on import. Can't do that because while Adobe supports RAW from this camera, Apple doesn't. So I copy the images from the card to the desktop and run them through DNG Converter.
    Then I import into Aperture as a project.
    At this point I would prefer to set the white balance in Aperture and open as a TIFF in Camera RAW for Lens Correction and Noise Reduction. Maybe some color correction and exposure stuff too, but that could as easily be done in Aperture.
    Then into Photoshop for more accurate color correction, sharpening and whatever else is necessary. Then I'd like to save it back into Aperture as a TIFF and have Aperture automagically select the last edited version in the stack as the pick and keep the stack closed so the last edited version is all I ever see.
    Unfortunately, this breaks down in several places. The biggest is that if I have PS open the TIFF in Camera Raw it breaks the connection to the file in Aperture, so when I save out of Photoshop it is treated as a Save As. Apple appears to insist on a .tiff extension while Adobe really wants a .tif extension. I can tell PS to not use any extension, but then I have to remember to add the .tiff manually, and that is a pain and I always forget. Not an option.
    So, what I do is import the DNG, set the white balance in Aperture and then run the Dfine (hope I spelled that right) plug-in which saves out as a TIFF. Then I open in Photoshop and do the lens correction (which does not work quite as well with the available lens profile as Camera Raw does) and do whatever else is needed in Photoshop.
    But, aside from not being able to use Camera RAW it's really the little things that make me crazy. Always having to remember to do a CMD\ to set the most recently edited version as the pick is something I need to do, but forget at least half the time. Also having to close the stack every time. I have too much to do, and I ought to have an option to do that automagically IMHO. Those little details help prevent screw ups and keep me focused on images instead of filing. I am a very poor file clerk. That's what software is for.

  • Rollover images stop working when image lies on top

    Hello,
    I am trying to place a PNG image over my menu bar. This is a swoosh which overlaps certain areas on the menu bar, the swoosh is a PNG file with no BG. It seems that the swoosh retaining box, stops the rollover buttons from working. They work up to the point in which the swoosh box starts.
    Am i missing something really simple, or is it a common fault.
    Go easy on me as it is my first post
    Thank you
    Will

    The menu bar in blue is positioned behind the blue and yellow swoosh. The rollove effect works when the curser is on the text but as you move down, the rollover effect stops, its at the position where the swoosh retaining box starts that the rollover effect stops working. Its to do with the layers im sure, i just thought seeing as the swoosh pixels dont interfere that obejct behind should be selectable.
    Does this help?

  • Css background image stopped working despite no code change

    My background image was working fine. Then, without me changing the code, it stopped working. The URL I referred to exists and ends in .jpg.
    When I first load Thimble the background shows up for a split second, then disappears again.
    Here is the code
    background-color:#051c1c;
    background-image:url("http://www.rosesandrattlesnakes.com/cssbg.jpg");
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-size: cover;
    background-attachment: fixed;
    background-position: top center;
    color:white;
    font-family:'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;
    text-align:center;
    padding:0;
    I tried removing the quotation marks. That didn't fix it. Tried removing www. That didn't fix it. Tried making the link https. That didn't fix it.
    Also, hints doesn't work, whether the checkbox is ticked or not.
    Gotta say Thimble kinda sucks. Sorry

  • Keyword to multiple images not working

    I'm using AP2.1.4. I'm just now starting to see the reason for assigning keywords and am tackling this. I am finding it easy to take a keyword from the keyword HUD and apply it to a single image. My problem is trying to apply it to a larger group of selected images.
    I've read and reread the aperture manual and it would appear to be rather simple. Select the group of images, drag over the keyword. However, it is only applying the keyword to the one image I drag it on top of despite a large group being clearly selected.
    I tried this several times and the result is the same.
    Feedback appreciated.

    I've now tried using the shift+D and typing in a custom keyword in the field box from the control display at the bottom of the screen. I've made sure all 10 images were selected. I type in a custom keyword (or a preset one) and then press enter.
    It still won't apply to a group. It is assigning only one keyword to one pic at a time.

  • Assigning Keywords - Multiple Images?

    I'm trying to add a keyword to a group of images at the same time.  All are selected in the browser, but I am unable to either drag the keyword to the images or drag the images to the keyword.
    I think there is a control that may be limiting my action, but I cannot find it in Aperture Help.
    Suggestions?
    DonColorado

    Hi Jaap (?).  I strongly suggest taking the time to work through the first seven chapters of the User Manual.  They provide a thorough introduction to Aperture, and an excellent foundation on which to build your understanding of the program.
    Keywords can be shown as part of each of the seven different Metadata Overlays.  You should customize each one to meet your needs.  Search the user manual (for this page ) and the forum for instructions and links.
    Your auto-fill problem might be related to Aperture's Autofill List (this is separate from the Keyword Auto-complete function).  Go to "Metadata→Edit Autofill List ... ", scroll down to" IPTC Keywords", and if you can find the misspelled keyword, select it and delete it.  Thereafter, the Keyword Auto-complete feature should work better.
    (The interaction of these two auto-complete functions is a poorly implemented design.)
    Let us know if that helps.

  • TC Sparse Bundle Image Stopped working

    My TC MBP 13" Time Machine no longer works on my MBP 13. I am sure that the reason is the following action I did the other day.
    1. I purchased an IMAC and migrated all the data from my MBP 13 inch over to it using the TM backup as the source.
    I still use my MPB 13" for most of my work and as my main computer. The IMAC was more purchased for the family.
    I believe this action cancelled out the ability to continue using it.
    The image above shows that the MBP BCC 13" is now a sparsebundle and not included as a folder Backup.backupdb
    I did try the ALT browse but it won't open on either computer.
    I researched Pondini's suggestions - but nothing works. Am I now stuck having this sparsebundle without the ability to load it up?
    Thanks for any help and have a great new year...

    Apple's knowledge base article HT1198 (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198) on sharing iphoto libraries among multiple users on the same Macintosh describes using a _sparse disk image_ in the /users/Shared/ directory. For a Mac that uses a *Time Capsule* for Time Machine backups won't this require the entire iPhoto library to be backed up anytime a picture is added or modified?
    Would using a _sparse bundle disk image_ instead work better?
    yes, it would work much better because a sparse bundle is split in a number of small bands (8MB each) and only the changed bands would be backed up afresh after changes to the iphoto library are made.
    Also, HT1198 doesn't say anything about "Partitions" parameter setting in Disk Utility when creating a blank sparse image or sparse bundle disk image. Does it matter what setting is selected if the image is being kept on the Mac internal disk drive?
    no, it doesn't matter.
    another option to share the iphoto library which is not mentioned in that KB article is to put it in a folder in /Users/Shared/ and put inherited ACLs on that folder. see this link for details

  • Thunderbolt Display - Image stopped working over night, while in sleep mode

    Hi All,
    Wondering if anyone has this problem?
    Been using TB display fine for over a year.  Connected into it are a couple of external usb hardrives, TB WD backup (which has a mini-HDMI monitor connected into it). The monitor has always worked well with the clamshell closed - seems like previous updates have fixed the odd phantom decision of which monitor should come on and when.
    Over the night, after putting the monitor into sleep mode, when I woke it up all systems kicked on (I could hear the external drives working and the other external monitor turned on), but no image came up on the TD display. My macbook thought it was on, as I could sweep my mouse over into it and initiate programs on that screen (but just not see them).
    I unplugged everything from the display - still same problem, no image.  When I open my macbook up, while connected, it again thinks the display is active but there is no image.  When I sweep out, my macbook thinks the in-computer display is "Display 4".
    Because of the previous nuances with the TD display, I'm hoping hope that this is a software issue, but it kind of seems like hardware.
    Any insights would be great!
    Thanks

    Another update for you all....
    While watching a movie on the TV yesterday the Mac Pro and Thunderbolt display went to sleep and once again when I tried to wake them the screen was totally black. I called Apple again and the only thing they could suggest was to take the screen to an authorised service provider so that they can run tests.
    After going through the resetting of just about everything I got the screen working again.
    I then trawled through forums on various sites and can see that this is quite a common issue - especially if your connected computer is running Mavericks.
    Other solutions which people have used are plugging the power plug for the Thunderbolt display into a totally different power source (if that's possible in your set up). Thankfully for me it is.
    Another suggesttion which has worked for others is to disable the Power Nap feature within the Energy Saver perference pane.
    I did both of those and for the first time this morning the Thunderbolt Display woke up when I woke the Mac Pro!
    However I did get an error message that he system had recovered...

    http://sysadminblogger.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/os-x-mavericks-wake-for-network- access-with-no-random-wake-ups/
    So I am now thinking that not only has power nap been causing issues with the display but wake for network access is also not really working as Apple intend it to.
    As I am a home user there really is no need for me to need wake for network access enabled anyway so I am also going to disable that. Hopefully this will mean that I have no more random phantom wake ups which I think may have been the cause of this issue all along.

  • Ability to open multiple tabs stopped working.

    I have always been able to open multiple tabs using Command-T - now all of a sudden when I use that shortcut, it just opens to the multi-tab screen instead of a new tab and no way to get back to the page I was on.

    Hello:
    Since I am a mouse person, I never used that shortcut.  However, it works here
    As an alternate, if you click on the + at the right of the Safari menu bar, a blank tab will open.

    P.S.  You could try deleting the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restarting.  However, if you do that, you will need to reenter your personal preferences.

  • Keyword filter has stopped working

    Whilst I can select any folder in my catalogue and the photos are displayed, complete with metadata, exif info, and keywords, selecting a keyword tag in the navigation panel just brings up a message that 'no photos match the filter'.
    The correct number of photos under each keyword tag is displayed in the navigation panel.
    This has only happened recently and the programme has worked without fault up to this point.
    L/R is loaded on my hard drive and all photos are on an external USB drive.
    I'm using Vista.
    Any ideas?

    False alarm!! I've discovered the filter switch that lies at the foot of the right hand panel scroll bar, and must have toggled this when scrolling.
    How careless.

  • GTX 670 PE - Does not transmit the image - Stopped working and has recovered

    First excuse me for English.
    I bought my gtx 670 last year, and everything worked fine but sometimes with blue screen, thought it would be a mismatch. Before yesterday, when I was playing, the screen went black and the message appeared that he had recovered. I uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled all to the latest version 334.89. When I start my computer does not appear any image. The monitor seems to receive the signal from the board, but does not transmit. Replaces it with my old gtx 460 and it worked perfectly. I removed one stick of memory, and for a few minutes I thought I would have solved my problem until the screen goes completely black again. Updated the bios to latest version of the motherboard. I'm not sure what is happening. I'm hoping not to be anything wrong with the video card. Could someone give a hope on this video card? Or is she really dead?
    motherboard- GIGABYTE Z68X-UD4-B3

    PSU              - Corsair 800
    CPU              - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz

    Good morning,
    Yesterday and today were the day of testing.
    I put the video card in another machine and got a better response.
    In my current machine can not see the bios when I start the machine.
    On another machine I can see the bios and I can spend some time with image, but spending a few minutes the screen goes black also.
    I did a stress test and then the screen went black. The temperature was 40 degrees.
    I'm guessing the card is actually faulty.
    Any idea for new tests?

  • Eject stopped working

    one day my eject shortcut (command-E) and dragging to trash can to eject a cd or image stopped working. the eject button on the sidebar stopped working too.
    however, i can eject using the disk utility. it's annoying to have to keep opening that just to eject.
    did i disable something?

    Hi Tom,
    as far as I am aware, there is still an issue with certain Automator actions and FileVault.
    ...it doesn't work.
    To use that action/workflow you will need to turn FileVault off.
    Have as search on here, there are quite a lot of postings about it...

  • Removing keyword from multiple images at the same time

    None of the documented methods seem to work for me.
    1     Select all the images. Go to Metadata > Remove Keyword [my keyword] - the keyword is only removed from the image that is selected in the batch - i.e the one that has the yellow border round it to show it's the active image.
    2     Select all the images, enter [my keyword] in the Add Keyword field when Keyword Controls is visible and press Shift + Enter - does the same thing as 1 above (removes it from the active image only).
    3     Select all the images, Shift Click on the keyword that I have in my Keyword Controls in the Control Bar - does the same things as 1 above.
    So all these methods, which are supposed to work, do not work for me. The removal of the keyword is only applied to the image that has the yellow border showing it to be the currently active image in the selected batch - the remaining selected imaged still retain the keyword. I can remove it "one at a a time" but it would be great if I could find a solution as to why this isn't working.
    Any ideas?
    If it helps, I'm running Aperture 3.1.3 in OS X 10.6.8.
    thanks
    Alan

    Based on the frequency with which this trips up users, the Aperture team is going to have to add a much stronger visual indication that "Primary Only" is active.  Marching ants, anyone?  Or a pink selection marquee?
    At least in the Viewer when multiple Images are selected the thin white selection marquee is dropped when Primary Only is active.  There is no such change in the Browser.
