Known concurrency issues around refreshObject

We are using Toplink 10.1.3 within 10gAS 10.1.3.
We use ORA_ROWSCN as the version number field within our Optimistic Locking Policy, which Oracle does not populate until the transaction commits.
Therefore we added a PostCommitEventListener.postCommitUnitOfWork method to refresh the objects prior to returning after an update. Otherwise we found that the objects in the cache, and those returned to our client tier, did not have the updated SCN.
This works fine... BUT we have just found a concurrency issue that we believe may be related to this.
If two Units Of Work are simultaneously attempting to update the same object instance this allows the possibility of the second Unit Of Work committing it's change whilst the first is still refreshing, after which something goes wrong, and subsequent attempts to access the object appear to hang, which is ultimately reported by the Oracle HTTP Server as a timeout.
We are trying to recreate this within an automated test which may further enlighten us.
Two questions:
1. Are there any known concurrency issues with mutiple Units of Work calling refreshObject on the same object?
2. Can anyone suggest a less expensive method of ensuring that the version number within our domain objects, gets updated with the ORA_ROWSCN after the commit?
As always, any help appreciated.

Are you saying that the cause of the issue is the use of the postCommitEventListener to refresh the objects?
Currently, the use of a version number field rather than ORA_ROWSCN is not an option, mainly because we have many update procedures that don't go via the Toplink Cache, and would therefore need amending to increment the version number fields or use triggers (current not seen as ideal due to batch issues). As we have more than 1000 tables, this is not feasible within the current release lifecycle of our product.
I attahc the complete thread dump, but this has been generated as a thread dump from the OC4J instance, as the application just hangs and eventually generates a time out.
Is there anything we can do to mitigate against this issue?

I use itunes on a Dell XPS502 with W7/64. In some cases have have problems to import CD's. The sound is very disturbed and the import need a lot more time than in normal cases. Is there a problem between itunes and W7/64 or a known hardware issue?
Example-CD : "Tracy Chapman , Telling stories" is not able to import . I have more such negative cases. But in other cases it works fine and the sound is great.
The firmware at the inbuild CD/DVD DS-6E2SH is the latest version.

I don't no about virtuel drives like you mententioned. In the mean time I have rebooted the XPS and run again the iTunes diagnostics. I think the back - chance in the registry was not ready to use. Now there are another results. They are the same in case of a running CD or a not running CD. The difference in total is like before. It takes more time that iTunes reads the (bad) CD and at the there is no good sound. In both cases ( running or not running CD) iTunes diagnostics gives as a result :

What exactly do you want to do with both the apps?
Since the exchange of files from AI to PS is based on PDF, I wouldn't expect problems. The only question is, if Photoshop CS2 will be able to read PDF 1.5, since that's the format AI CS6 embeds in its files. If it doesn't work, you could still save a PDF from AI and make it any other PDF version.
Illustrator can read lower version PSD.
Copy-Paste might be a problem. I can't experiment, since I don't have that PS version any more. -

According to your description, you encounter a compatibility issue when uninstalling SQL Server 2008. For further analysis, please help to post the full error message and
SQL Server summary log. By default, the log can be found in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log.

Concurrency Issue : J2ee Application
Hi,
Ours is a J2ee Web Application, Where in we have maintenance screens (for doing CRUD(Create-Read-Update-Delete) operations) for each entity. Each entity has a business key which identifies that entity uniquely. So, from the Create screen, if I try to create a record with the same business key, it should say Object already exists. So, before we create a record, first we search for it using the business key. If we get any results for the search criteria, we will say, Object already exists else we will create the record.
Now the problem is, When we try to create two records with the same business key from two different screens. We open two browsers, and create a record with the same business key from two screens. Both the records are getting created. As per our analysis, What happens is, the search operation in both the screens is being done simultaneously, so, both the search operations does not return any result because of which both the records are getting created. If the record is created between the both search operations, then one thread sees the created record and says object already exists.
It would be of great help if you can give us the pointers in solving this concurrency issue. We are using EJB's in our project. Does changing the Isolation Level of the create and search methods help us?

Yong-Lohsearch for the record right before you try to insert a new one; if another user inserted one while the user was busy typing, you'll catch it then. If you want to prevent 100% of the time that you don't get duplicate entries because of the rare occurrence that two people insert the exact same data at exactly the same time, figure out which fields uniquely identify a record (besides the ID) and put a unique constraint on them.
Note: that whole story was far from a clear description or question; you may want to narrow it down to a more compact description if I my answer doesn't help you. -
Multiple update request - Concurrency issue
Hi
One of our customer is facing a concurrency issue when multiple service instance are running. When a request comes for update, say A, tuxedo assigns the task to a free server and in meantime a similar update request comes, say B, tuxedo assigns the request to another free server. Request A caches data from DB and continue further processing meantime request B also retrieves data from DB and loads the values into cache. After sometime request A completes its job and commits the transaction and when request B tries to update the value it reports an error. This is our finding so far.
I just want to know is there any way we can make the request in sync or in other words request B see the updated value.

Tuxedo makes heavy use of semaphores (including it's own user mode version based upon the the test-and-set instruction), and shared memory. We don't expose any APIs though that deal with those area, i.e., we just use them internally. Your servers are certainly able to use standard OS level semaphores or shared memory as Tuxedo would be completely unaware of this. If concurrent access though to a database is the major issue, I'd push that down to the database as it is in a much better place to determine what level of concurrency is safe based upon policy and not some programmers arbitrary decision about what should be serialized and what shouldn't.
You mention shared memory and I'd be curious to understand your interest in shared memory. What would you want to accomplish with shared memory?

I cannot get decent reception on my 4s from Sprint. I understand there is a known WiFi issue with the 4s as well as antenna issues. Is this true and is it resoved in the 5 series?
I am aware that Sprint has network issues. I have learned that Apple does have reception issues with the 4s. The 5 series has more antenna area and a different protocol. I have owned at least 6 iPhones personally and over 30 as a company. The 4s is junk. Apple's attitude toward customer service is much more of a problem than Sprint's network. Apple sent me your non-answer to my questions instead of anything real. I asked about the iPhone, not about Sprint.

RRI sending restrictions issue in BEx Analyzer - Known SP Issue?
We have two queries linked through an RRI interface that is designed to "send" a restriction of one characteristic when the user right clicks on the cell containing the value they want to see in the second ("Goto") query and selects "Goto" and the second query's name. This interface works fine on my machine with both my ID and the test ID the users are using to test these reports. My machine is on SP8, Patch 1 Revision 1443. However, when the users execute the same query and try the RRI they see the second query with all of the values in that column, not just the one they "selected". They are on SP7, Patch 1 Revision 1352. Is this a known issue with this version of Analyzer? I have been searching around and can't find any documentation saying so, but something "official" from SAP that documents this would be perfect to recommend and upgrade to SP8 to fix this problem.

Are you sure that all the data in cube is affected? I mean also the data loaded in cube before GUI upgrade?
I have a feeling that instead of GUI upgrade something happened to the background user that is extracting the data in source system. E.g. this user master data has changed - in decimal format.
So check the user and check data loaded before/after change of GUI.

Also in response to your other note, I have only Code 128 checked.
Rahul K at adobe support has suggested we use the ConvertPDFService "toimage" operation to transform the PDF to TIFF prior to scanning for barcodes and this has helped in some instances, but led to other issues. Apparently "toimage" doesn't like non-flattened documents so we will need to also use the OutputService "transformPDF" operation to flatten, but of course, some of the barcodes are tagged data which will be lost, so we need to have multiple versions of the document floating around. Also, to use PDFGenerator we need to install Acrobat Pro Extended. Still sorting through all of this.
Please chime in if you have additional suggestions. Sorry to be asking questions that are all over the map, but I'm trying to attack the problem from a number of angles in the hope of getting past this.

My MBP has started shutting down randomly and seems to be related to this known issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
The problem is, it started happening right around the 3 year mark, when this offer seems to expire. It is around the same time Mountain Lion was installed and seems to have made it worse.
I brought it in to an Apple Store and the diagnostics have told me I need to replace the Logic Board which is almost $600.
It feels super unfair as this is a known issue, and Mountain Lion seems to make this issue much worse. The MBP is now 3 years 3 months, and I brought the MBP in to the Apple store about a month ago.
Anyone?I had just read about this a few weeks ago, and was also very upset that not only had the coverage expired, but that I was not made aware that this was a known issue. I had been dealing with this issue ever since Lion and it was getting worse. I set up a Genius Bar appointment, and they decided that it was the logic board, and that because it was almost 6 months out of coverage, I would not have to pay the retail $500+, but still have to pay a discounted $310 to get it replaced. They were relatively sympathetic, but couldn't do anything more that to say that I try calling AppleCare, because they would be able to bend the rules more than the Apple Store.
I called right after I left the store. I pleaded with the first guy, staying professional but stressing that it was a little unfair for the reasons listed above. He eventually transferred me to human resources vs. his supervisor, because he said that they may be able to get me farther. I was on the phone on and off of hold for an hour, and they eventually agreed (after some internal research of their own) that it was a known issue large enough to cover the replacement for free. I was setup with a new Genius Bar appointment and got my MacBook Pro back within 2 days of dropping it off. Overall, it was a time-consuming process, but definitely worth the effort.
Now I am dealing with similar glitches, leading me to believe that the new logic board is having the same issues as the old one, but luckily it is under a 90 day warranty so I will take it back and see what they decide to do. -
Any known CBO issues in 9.2.0.8?
Hi, we have a job that runs considerably slower on 9.2.0.8 than it does on 9.2.0.5 and 10G R2. For many SQL statements it chooses a different execution plan than in the other versions and almost always a much slower one.
Are there any known issues with the CBO in 9.2.0.8.?

Pl-Sql Oracle Function Concurrency Issue

Issue - pl-sql Oracle Function performance issue, when muliple users are accessing the function
Detail -
Oracle 11g / Linux Server
I have developed a pl-sql oracle function to retrieve information from 3 tables, output as a particluar type array.
Single request is getting processed within 2.2 seconds, but when multiple request are sent concurrently <tested with 50>, time taken for each output is different.
BreakUp of Response times:-
8 messages took - 2.2 sec
+8 messages took - 4.4 sec
++8 messages took - 6.6 sec....etc
I'm looking for any DB tunning parameter, which will help to resolve this issue.
My only aim is to expose developed function to multiple users, who all can access it concurrently, but response should limit within 2.2 seconds.
Any thoughts + guidance is higly appreciated.
