KT4V-L I/O Errors

I didn't really know who to ask about this problem so I came here because I think it's something to do with motherboard
I have the following hardware:
MSI KT4V-L flashed to newest update mid december
AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Barton (running at 185 x 11 due to CPU not officially supported)
1GB VDATA/ADATA PC3200 RAM @ 370MHz
Maxtor MaxLine II Plus 250GB hard disk
Maxtor Plus 9 120GB Hard Disk
Western Digital Caviar 160GB Hard Disk
LG DVD-RW Super Multi 8x and Liteon 52x CDROM  (both on Silicone Image 680 PCI IDE RAID)
When I try to install some applications from my hard disk, Windows says something about I/O errors when unpacking cabs and other files.
Installing from CD media to hard disk is OK
What could be wrong? This problem only emerged after a bios flash

Yeah it still happens with the maxline drive
I transferred some files from a friends PC, a file which didn't work on my pc and it worked
So I don't know why I am getting corruption.. I think I have narrowed it down to .ISO and .BIN/.CUE files unpacked from RAR... I was using WinRAR but I also tried WinACE to get the same problem

  • KT4V (MS-6712) Keyboard error

    Hi everybody,
I just experienced a really strange problem with the KT4V mainboards....
The problem is the keyboard seems to have a conflict with mainboard resources under win2000 and winXP (but not using win98!??!)
But U dont find any Yellow question marks under System/Hardware/Device Manager/Keyboard, just two red signals going in the under System/Hardware/Device Manager/Keyboard and then to the resources tab used by the keyboard.
The message says there's a conflict with motherboard reserved resources using i/o port 60 and i/o port 64.
All the pcs use different processors, keyboards, vga cards and other periphals.
The only thing they have in common is the mainboard...
I tried to disable usb ports, to change a few bios settings but nothing happened!
The very strang thing is on the same pc using dual boot, under win2000 the red signals are there while under win98 no conflicts were found.
So I guess there must be something wrong on via drivers (or maybe ac97 audio or usb drivers) or win2k resources allocation...
    Could u please help me?
PS: Please forgive my poor english...

I have no idea if this will work or is even related, but try this. First, you must be using Windows Xp, I do not know how to do this it you are not using it, but if you are, go to the my computer icon and right click it on the desktop, then go to the Advanced tab and under Startup And Recovery, hit Settings. Under System Failure, uncheck the Automatically Restart option. Hope that helps and read the "What's this?" help for the setting.

  • [VIA] So where's this error message from? KT4V or Windows 98se

    Hi,
Reference KT4V Series and using windows 98 se.
My system has been running fine for a couple of years then one day the following happened.
Slow boot up and when I tried to open/close windows applications it was very slow.
e.g. click on 'My Computer' took 5 minutes to open then no drives displayed for a further
    5 minutes.
    Virus scans etc found nothing.
Then the dreaded tasks had to be done.
I fully formatted the drive and checked for surface errors (took 10 hours).
Drive has no errors - I re-loaded windows 98 se - still the same problem.
Infact when trying to delete a file it actually went into freeze mode.
I have a 60gb drive, 256mb but in the past I would get the following error:
'the system is dangeroulsy low in resources and will be shut down' even though very little was
     running.
    I would re-start okay.
    now i get the error:
' the system is either busy or has become unstable'
    any ideas on these errors?
    thanks for reading this.
Thanks to those that replied - I have now solved the problem.
The Bios settings have some how got set to the default settings as a result my FSB was set to 107mhz
I have now set this to 266mhz and wow behold the windows applications are opening and closing
    as quick as before.
As a default the boot sector virus protection is set to off - when I know I set this to on.
Maybe the 'system is unstable messages and low on resources messages' somehow reset the bios to safe default values - especially as the system was closing itself down after these messages.
The KT4V will support a processor speed of 1.3 ghz only the Processor I was sold with the board is 1800+
As a result of resetting the FSB in the bios the processor speed is now running at 1.55 ghz
The system now boots up and closes down at speed and as said above the applications open and close ok as well.
The reset to default settings also meant that scan disk when checking the reformatted disk for surface errors ended up taking 11.5 hours to run on a 60gb hdd when the program itself estimated
    only 3-4 hours.
Lot of time wasted - so check your FSB bios settings along with your boards capability - to ensure you are getting the Processor speed you paid for.

have you cleaned your PC recently if at all?
open up your case, if it is very dusty your system may be overheating. remove the heatsink and fan, and clean all old thermal paste from cpu die and heatsink. clean dust from heatsink fins and from fan blades. reapply fresh thermal paste to cpu die surface. only a very thin layer is needed. arctic silver is good stuff.
use a can of compressed air ("air duster") to blow any surface dust of motherboard and other cards. remove memory sticks and blow into slots.
remove your PSU and remove the top cover. again use air duster to blow any dust buildup from PCB and components

  • Help! KT4V: DBracket reports error!

    Hi
My KT4V DBracket reports error all the time.
Software and hardware run just fine, everything seems to be OK, but led no. 3 on my dbracket is red.
I've checked the manual and it says that this code means: "All resources assigned to ISA".
I have no idea what's going on!
    Greets!
    My spec:
MSI KT4V bios ver. 1.6, AMD Athlon XP 1700@2000 (10x166), 2x256 333 Mhz CL 2.5 DDRAM Samsung, Nvidia Geforce 2MX, HDD Seagate 30 GB 5400 RPM, CDRW LG 16/10/40.

    Thanks Bas
You might be right Bas, but expect this strange led lightning all the time, the dbracket is working properly!
When booting the leds are switching colours (led no. 3 too!).
When there was a problem with my gfx card mounted inproperly the dbracket reported that error correctly.
The problem is that in my country reseller has got 14 days to check my mainboard, repair it or replace with a new one! It means quite a lot of time with my comp "unplugged"  :(
I have to be sure before reporting mobo failure...

  • Driver Errors upgrading to KT4V-L

I am in the process of upgrading form an MSI 6330 to a KT4V-L. I want to use my current HD with Windows 2K and assorted software. The system boots to Windows desktop and I get several messages that new hardware has been discovered, IDE controller, USB, etc.
When I load the MSI driver and reboot, the system tells me the drivers failed when loading. If I take another drive, format it and load Windows 2K, the drivers load fine. I suspect the old system drivers need to be removed before the new drivers will load.
I want to avoid hours of reloading all my software. Any suggestions on how to remove the old system drivers and load the new ones?

I have to get back to you on which drivers in device manager, there were serveral. All were associated with what you would typically use to support the MB chipset. I am migrating from the VIA KT333 to the KT400 chipset. I assume the drivers are different.
I tried to load each of them manually. I get the same error. It wouldn't be a hardware problem, since I am able to load the drivers if I start from the ground up. I'd like to delete the old VIA drivers, but they aren't listed in 'add/remove programs'. There doesn't appear to be anything on the original MSI drive CD that came with the 6330 that will let me remove the old drivers.

  • KT4V MS-6712 VER:1.0A just a printing error?

I own a MSI KT4VL, the one that uses the KT400 chipset not the KT400A. Between PCI slots 1 and 2 it has printed:
    KT4V
However the printed version between PCI slots 2 and 3 is:
    MS-6712  VER: 1.0A
Which fits the image MSI shows for the KT4AV. As an extra data, it came with BIOS version 1.8.
My question: is just a printing error, some intermediate version or anything else?
    Thanks Gustavo.-

The KT3V also uses the MS-6712 ver:1.0A circuit board so most likely it is shared between the three models in order to reduce costs. Bios version 1.8 is shared by the KT4V and KT3V but not the KT4AV which uses version 5.0. If your board is running stable I would not worry about it.

  • Kt4v w/geforce4 ti 4200

I have a kt4v via kt400 chipset based MSI board that I purchased 2 weeks ago online.  I have had nothing but problems and I believe the problem is with the MB.
With the MB I purchased an AMD 2400+ CPU plus 333Mhz 2700 DDR Ram.  I have a GeForce4 TI 4200 64mb AGP Video card installed.
I first tried installing windows 2000.  During the install I get a Blue Screen stating that ACPI support is not available on this MB and I have to install without ACPI support to continue.  In an attempt to fix it I updated the bios to 1.6.  This caused MANY many lock-ups.  When I backed-off to 1.5 things seemed to work better but what I did notice was that w2k sp 3 made things a whole lot worse (know that I formated my computer about 10 times and re-installed trying the many combinations)
Then I tried Windows XP Prof.  It doesn't, error it just hangs during the text part of the install.  If I disable ACPI support in the bios it installs, but I believe this is a feature that is requried and advertised.  Now that I have XP installed (bios level is still at 1.5 plus ACPI is disabled) I still have problems.  At what appears to be random intervals the screen will goto about 320x200 resolution and then thick white verticle lines within blocks appear all over the screen and eventually the computer is completely locked (sorry, this is hard to explain).
Initially, I would believe this to be a video card problem, BUT here are my reasons for thinking otherwise.  1.  The ACPI problem that still exists makes me think this board is flawed ??  2.  I have owned this card for 6 months and used in my last computer without incident.
Sorry for the long question but I wanted to show that i've tried many different scenarios before resorting to this.

OK, I have run memtest on my computer with no errors.
I found on another thread that I may have a bad video card, but that doesn't explain why I can't install an OS with ACPI enabled.
Is there anyone out there who can help ?
    THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE.

  • Problems with KT4V and AtiRadeon 9700 Pro...

    Hi all,
I have lots of problems with my current configuration with games (lock ups) and even in normal use. Also I'm not able to run 3DMark through to see with kind of results would I get. Car chase (high) gets very low fps and the nature test doesn't even work. I have tried different 4in1 drivers and BIOS versions. With 1.6 BIOS version I had lots of CRC errors (should be corrected in BIOS ver. 1.7 but in expense of data rate?).  Does anyone have any suggestions so that I could for example go through the 3DMark even with the expense of performance?
I had those game lock up problems also earlier with KT7A-100 RAID + AtiRadeon 64 (3DMark worked) so I bought new graphic card (didn't help) and after that I bought the new mobo. I know my config is not the best in the world, but I think it should be enough to give some happy moments in ever so demanding games... for a while...
There is also one thing that is quite strange. In my display adapters there is two drivers for AtiRadeon (primary in AGP and secondary in PCI)? I'm not expert, but isn't that weird? I have tried installing different drivers again and again (also reinstalled OS) with no luck! Trying to delete the secondary one doesn't help...
    Help..........!
    My specs:
    MSI KT4V (MS-6712)  4in1 Hyperion 4.45, BIOS ver 1.0
    AMD TM 1.2 GHz CPU
    ATX pro3 (300W)
    WIN 98SE
    512 MB DDR (333)
    SAMSUNG 40 GB (5400 RPM)
    SAMSUNG DVD
    ATIRADEON 9700 Pro (Club 3D)  Catalyst 3.0
    Soundblaster Live!

the 9700 is the most powerfull vga to date and needs power evan more than a gf4 4600
i would lbe looking at some think like an antec true powe 430 watt psu not a basic 300 watter
with ati,s own cards you need revision 1.3 as well best i can recall, but yours is an oem so im not sure
a search for 9700 in this section will get you lots of threads

  • Memory Problem on KT4V-L

I built a new computer with the following:
    MSI KT4V-L
    AthlonXP 2400+
    Sapphire Radeon 9600 256MB
    SimpleTech 256MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM (MC-DDR2100/256)
It runs great, except for one issue. There's an error above around the 200MB level of memory. The nunmber changes every time I restart the computer, but it's now at the 210,407,424th byte (200.66MB) in memory.
So, thinking the RAM was defective, I returned it to the retailer and got a new one. I put the RAM in and ran Norton Diagnostics. It's still there.
I know it's not Norton Diag with a problem, because if my physical memory use goes over around 200MB, the computer will crash.
The computer is not overclocked at all, stock heat sink/fan. All the temps are well within range, I even tested to make sure nothing is overheating.
I don't have any other compatable RAM/computers to test with. Hopefully, the memory just isn't compatable or somehting. Any insights?
    Thanks.

Thank you axeluktoo. I ran Memtest-86 overnight and the standard test didn't find any errors; I'll run the extended tests later today to be sure.
Thanks Deathstalker, I was didn't know that the board names were based on MB chipset. I was thinking it was processor-based.
My PSU is a Powerman 350W. The components I have are a CD-RW, a CD-ROM (That doesn't run - I need a larger cable. It's connected to the PSU, though.), my video card, my WinTV GO! card, and a cheap 56k modem. Hardly strainging it, I think. The video card doesn't even need the special power cable.
Yes, I have tried a CMOS reset, it didn't change a thing.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • Error Reading CAB files? PROBLEM SOVLED!!

    I have the KT4V-L Mothboard.
    Spec as follows:
    512mb PC2100 Ram (single module)
    AMD Athlon 2000xp CPU
    40gp ATA100 hard disk
    Geforce 4 MX420
    250w PSU
    CD rom drive.
    FSB set to 133.
When im installing large applications (IE Microsoft Flight sim and other large programs) at various points during installation Ill get this message:
"Error reading CAB file. This could be due to low memory" etc etc or a CRC error.
I have upgraded the BIOS to V1.8 - and it shows on the boot screen as v1.8 - so i take it thats installed properly.
I have tried installing the software on another PC and everything is fine.
Also, i get the same errors when trying to install using a different CD ROM drive.
I am getting so angry at this now!! I am thinking of buying another board!!
    Please help!
    cheers

Are you using the latest BIOS?  1.3 for the KT4 Ultra or 1.8 for the KT4V
Either 1.7 or 1.8 for the KT4V should help with this problem.

    Hi,
    1. What is your power supply?
    2. Did you place your hdds very close to each other? possible overheating can cause such error... make sure your drives get cool properly.
    3. What are the jumper settings for the drives?
    4. Is your WinXP from a clean installation? Or you did an upgrade on the motherboard without OS installation?
    5. Does this occur to ALL data/file? Or just once in a while?
