Kuler using US RGB?

Hi I just started using Kuler, and it is a wonderful gadget
to me.
I've just created some color sets and exported them as an ASE
and brought them into IL CS3. I recognized that the rgb and cymk
values are diffrent than those on the kuler site.
Is Kuler using another RGB Profile than me?
I have the german version of the cs3
Is there any way to export them not as rgb?
Thanks Kirsten

Hi sami, thanks for your answer.
I've choosen the base colour as an example:
in Kuler:
RGB: 241;17;26
CMYK:0;47;89;5
in IL CS3:
RGB: 238;127;31
CMYK:0;60.39;92.47;0
The ASE that I imported can be found here:
http://kuler.adobe.com/#themeID/209943
Thanks a lot for your support

  • When to use ProPhoto RGB color space?

I've read articles recommending to use ProPhoto RGB color space because the color gamut is greater.  At the same time, I've had to convert some images I created using ProPhoto RGB templates to sRGB so they will display with the right colors in applications that don't support it.  I'm wondering (just curious) when it is appropriate to use this color space.  Is it only for professional graphic image designers and photographers who send their images to a professional printer?

in addition to what ssprengel said and some of it may be in other words:
There are several standard profiles listed in a separate section in the menus displaying color profiles when you use Assign Profile, Convert to Profile, and when you choose Working Spaces in the Color Settings. These profiles are so called 'well behaved' or 'editing' color spaces. They are device independent and created synthetically for editing purposes - in these color spaces R=G=B is perfectly neutral gray which makes the numbers of color values make sense when editing images referring to the numbers, histograms, curves, etc. ProPhoto RGB is one of these spaces and have the widest gamut, parts of which exceed the visible spectrum. This allows you to have an image with colors that are not limited to the color gamut of eventual destination color spaces like printers and monitors.  That's why some people prefer to use Prophoto RGB for images with destination unknown. When you know the destination, in your case an online printing service, get the color profile used by the printing service, install it on your computer, and use convert (Edit menu > Convert to Profile) from ProPhotoRGB to the color profile of the printer. The color management trys to make the conversion to the best possible color match when the destination color space is with a narrower color gamut and you may see color shift of the colors outside the color gamut of the destination. You can also use soft proof (View > Proof Colors with View > Proof Setup set to the destination profile) to edit (optimize) the colors of your document to the destination before the conversion if you can do better than the color management conversion. It is a good idea to make this on a copy of the original image or different layers dedicated to editing colors for a particular destination (color space).
Also have in mind that the conversion can be done on any other computer with Photoshop provided that along with your image they have the source and destination profile. So it can be done by your printer too but without the printers profile on your computer you wont' be able to proof and edit the final appearance.
If you create or edit your artwork or photos with destination unknown in a color space with a comparatively narrower gamut  then when in the future you have the opportunity to use a destination with a wider color space you won't be able to take advantage from all possible colors.

  • RAW Images using Adobe RGB

This appears to not just be an issue with iPhoto but more of the RAW image support in OS X itself.
All RAW images that are opened in preview have the color profile Adobe RGB attached to them - this goes for all RAW images that I export to JPEGs from iPhoto. While this isn't really a problem if I am to keep/view/print images from my MacBook alone - but the colors of my images get messed up when I export some images for my wife to view on her PC - or when I use the Facebook feature of iPhoto to upload images to my Facebook account. The conversion to sRGB makes them look all washed out.
Is there some way to have OS X use a different color profile when processing RAW images... so I know that what it will look like after I make adjustments and export them? Like I say - this isn't an iPhoto issue - but a OS X RAW Image issue... so forgive me if this is not the correct forum.
    Cheers!

    Thanks TD,
I think that applies to JPEGs that are brought into iPhoto as opposed to RAW images that OS X processes.
I am sure Facebook does process the file somewhat... mostly resizing the image to meet its specs. But as for the color I am sure it is to do with the color profile used. As I a say, the images look the same (washed out) when opened on my wife's PC (or my two PCs for that matter).
I tested this by exporting a RAW image to JPEG in iPhoto... open it in Preview - the color profile used is Adobe RGB (as this is what OS X RAW Processing is using). I apply (convert) to sRGB and the colors become washed out (just as when uploading to Facebook). So it's apparent that it's a Color Profile issue. I just wanted to know if the OS X RAW processing be set to use another Color Profile.... Adobe RGB looks good... but not so great if the file is to be viewed with or exported to sRGB.
    Cheers!

  • I can't create or view saved and favourites in kuler using CS6

I'm new to Kuler and havent' used it before so it could just be me but I have extensively searched for the answers.  Using Illustrator CS6 v16.2.1 latest updates from CC.  Eventually managed to find the elusive Panel selection in Window > Extensions.  Now I have access to the panel it doesn't seem to have options to 'Browse Create About'  as seen in all of the tutorials.  This leaves me unable to Create themes from Ai or view my saved files and favourites that I created from the Kuler website.  It does however seem happy to display public themes when I use the search presets.
I also don't seem to be able to create favourites from Ai.
I have de-activated and re-activated the cloud and logged in and out of Kuler, all using the same credentials.

Thanks Shamit_mehta, downloaded CC and all good.  As frustrating as it was, it was well worth the effort.  Loving Kuler.  I couldn't find a place on the web that told me what versions have what functionality.  Is there such a place?  Otherwise it's a bit of a mission sometimes when  you are not getting the results that you expect and don't know why.

  • Using Kuler with InDesign

    Hi,
I'm new to Kuler, though recall at some point someone showing me how to use the eyedropper tool from InDesign where you can click on a color in Kuler and use it in the file you're working in InDesign.
Can you do this? If so, how?
    Thanks!

As far as I know, there is no connection between eyedropper and Kuler panel. So, if you want to use some color(s) from Kuler, you have to add them to your Swatches panel first, there´s a button for that in Kuler panel. Current version of Kuler creates only RGB colors, if you are making some layout for printing, you should convert those RGB colors to CMYK before using them... otherwise you may end up having some unwanted color shiftings...

  • How to change the text color of a label by using RGB values without changing the background colour?

    xCode interface builder:
When I try to change the color property of a label's text by using the RGB values, the background color also changes to the same value automatically.
    in other words:
While setting the RGB values for text colour of labels, the background colour also changes unless we use the sliders.
How to make sure that only the color of text changes and not the background?

    You can simply do this.
        [labelname setTextColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:38/255.0f green:171/255.0f blue:226/255.0f alpha:1.0f]];

  • How to use RGB in GanttBarStyleEdit?

I use a script based on GanttBarEditSyle to set up standard bar styles.  The problem is that this apears to be limited to the 16 basic pjColor colors.  But if I use the menu, I can assign any RGB color.  Is there any way to change the bar
color in VBA to any RGB value??

    jack n birkdale,
Sure, use the RGB function to define the various gantt bar item colors. For example, the following will format the first bar style with a green start symbol, a red bar and a blue end symbol:
    GanttBarEditEx Item:="1", StartColor:= RGB(0, 255, 0)
    GanttBarEditEx Item:="1", MiddleColor:=RGB(0, 255, 0)
    GanttBarEditEx Item:="1", EndColor:=RGB(0, 0, 255)
Hope this helps. If this answers your question, please mark it as the answer.

  • RGB or RYB?

What's the thought behind using an RGB wheel for Kuler rather
than the Red, Yellow Blue (subtractive) color wheel that all my
    color harmonics books use?
An example of a tool that uses RYB:
    http://wellstyled.com/tools/colorscheme/index-en.html
I don't know if there's an emerging wisdom that compliments
generated in RGB space are somehow as valid as those found in RYB,
but I think Kuler should at the very least have an optional RYB
mode. And so does my third grade art teacher!
    -Stu

There is a program for the Mac called Color Consultant Pro
that offers both "artistic" and "scientific" color wheels, which
correspond to the RYB and RGB models. The "scientific" one is
    functionally almost identical to kuler.
The color of the primaries is not the only difference. In the
RYB model, a larger percentage of pure hues are in the ink gamut.
RGB cyan doesn't exist in it at all, the colors between yellow and
red are more spread out, and the colors between the primaries are
darker, deeper colors (as opposed to lighter, brighter colors in
the RGB model). I assume this is because the artistic color wheel
is based on a substractive ink model, versus an additive light
    model.
Before and After magazine, widely respected in print circles,
has a RYB-based color wheel that can be downloaded in PDF format
    from their website:
    http://www.bamagazine.com/ColorWheel.asp
I think scientifically/mathetically, the color wheel on kuler
is perfectly accurate. However, it does produce colors outside the
printable gamut. The subtractive-based color wheels have less of
this problem, but the question is: Do the same principles of color
matching apply to both? (They both yield different combinations of
matches for any given base color.)
Personally I find the "scientific" model gives more pleasing
results, although not always. Some of the RYB model matches look
    quite nice.

  • I need Help, I want to use my Vizio Tv as my moniter for my Macbook

    Hey everyone
I have bought a Apple DVI to mini-DVI Video Cable Adapter a while back, which I just recently used for my Macbook. I connected it to a Dynex DVI-to-HDMI Digital Video cable. I connected this to the HDMI 1 output on my 42'' Vizio VP42 HDTV.
BUT nothing comes up on the tv , just BLACK. Am I missing a step, or did I buy the wrong cord.
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out and tell me EXACTLY what needs to be done, I don't want to mess up anything...
    THANKS in advance!

I have two Vizio sets that have VGA adapters and I am able to get my computers to output to them. I do not beleive that using HDMI out of the video out will be compatible with your TV. Although you may want to look in the settings for the input you are using on the TV while the cable is plugged in and see if you have the option to change the input to a computer.
Here is some info found from Vizio:
+When it comes to sending out a video signal, Cable boxes and DVD players follow a more defined set of rules. They can do one of several types of resolutions and thats it. Since this is the case the HDMI on our televisions is optimized for the NTSC format signal. So HDMI from a PC doesnt always work 100 percent since its intended design is to optimize signal from DVD players and set top boxes.+
+PC video signal has the ability to run with a larger spectrum of rules. First thing i would suggest is use an RGB cable instead of HDMI, the RGB input is designed with a wider range of resolution possibilities in mind. Before you even connect with the RGB cable set the resolution to 640x480 then work your way up through the resolutions. The second thing is that you make sure all of your display drivers are up to date.+

  • Error message when uploading book for printing. All images are jpg and rgb. Could they be too large to upload? What size is required and how do I reduce size in Aperture?

I receive an error message when I upload my book for printing. Not sure what the problem is. All my images are jpg and rgb. Could they be too large as it takes about 15minutes to upload to Apple. How do I reduce the size of the image in Aperture?

    Hi Leonie,
    Thanks for your reply.
Error message below. The preview is fine . I can discount the first 2messages as its a new computer so plenty of disk space and upload doesn't seem to be interrupted. I have uploaded to iphoto before. have tried to upload 3times with the same error message. I had to photo my slides with a Kaiser Baas photo maker , which apparently doesn't scan but takes photos in megapixels of the slides. I am wondering now if the format is incompatible though they are jpg files or the colour type wrong. The image files are  around 1-3 mb each and  72 ppi. I think  I will now scan them properly with a scanner to 300dpi anyway to improve quality.
Apple  talks about image files not being too big for uploading but gives no sizing of what too big is?
    Error message
    1. Upload Error. Loss of connection or file corruption during order upload may cause an incomplete order. Resubmitting your order usually resolves this issue.
    2. Low Disk Space. If your computer is running on low disk space, your files may be assembled incorrectly. Create more space by deleting unused files.
    3. Unreadable PDF file or image files. Files are sometimes assembled incorrectly due to CMYK or Grayscale color space. Use the RGB color space for best results.

  • RGB color in inDesign changes (washed out) after exporting it to PDF

    Hi,
I am new to InDesign and i have a hard time figuring out how could I export my InDesign file to PDF without affecting the color.
    This is what I do.
    1. I created a new document with Transparency Blend Space set to Document RGB
    2. I created a box using the rectangle tool and filled it up with RGB color, R=126 G=12 B=110
    3. The color in Indesign is just how i wanted it, however, the problem arises when i export the file now to PDF
    4. Instead of the color i wanted, the color was changed to a lighter color, or washed out.
    5. THis happens even in text have the same RGB setting.
How could I export it to PDF with the same color, without being washed out?
I really appreciate your help on this. Thanks.

That sounds like the Color Picker, which works a bit differently in ID than in Illustrator or Photoshop. If the cursor is not in one of the RGB fields when you say OK you won't get RGB color. You can see this by noting the text in the Add ... Swatch button. My guess is you added the color as the CMYK conversion which is a bit lighter.
You might want to use the panel menu in the Swatches panel instead, or the new swatch button at the bottom of the panel while holding down the Alt key to open the new swatch definition dialog. You want to create a Process color and change the type to RGB, then enter the values in the RGB fields. Or if what you want is really Pantone 249U you can define a Spot swatch and choose Pantone Solid Uncoated and then specify the 249. I'll warn you though, that CS6 uses Lab values for displaying spot colors and 249U is considerably lighter than either the RGB you specified or the 249C. In earlier versions the book value conversions were used. Even when using Lab display values through Ink Manager in CS5, the coated and uncoated swatches incorrectly look the same in ID, and in Illustrator CS5 you would need to turn on overprint preview to see a difference.
Here are a couple of screen captures from PDFs exported from ID CS5 and CS6 using High Quality Print. The colored boxes with the lables were pasted from Illustrator CS5 to be sure I was using the same color definitions and that theywere behaving as native objects. Below are the same boxes placed:
and here is how the screen looked in CS6 in ID (notice the difference in the placed .ai file -- the screen preview is NOT using the Lab values, although it exports with them):
I don't know what the content is and how you present it, but it doesn't sound like a web page. That said, if you choose Web for intent in Document Setup you can still use print size paper sizes for the document and change the rulers after the doc is created to read inches or millimeters or other units of your choice instead of pixels and the file will use default RGB swatches and default to RGB when making new colors.

  • Banding in Photoshop CC 2014 when using gradient or curves, 5K imac and Nikon D810. Help?

I am experiencing severe banding in
    Photoshop CC 2014.
    5K imac, Nikon D810.
16 Bit Tiff in both Adobe RGB and Profoto RGB.
It seems to be something new.
    OSX Yosemtie 10.10.1
    It appears when using gradients.
    Help?

    Thanks for your help Trevor.
That does not seem to make a difference.
I sometimes use the Nik Collection for
    gradients as well.
The banding is very visible in the
    Plugin as well.
It is odd because this seems to have
    just started this week.
It is the same on my 2011 iMac as well.
Not sure if it is because I shot on a grey
    background.
    I will post an example.
I am also using Profoto RGB which
is supposed to have smoother gradients.

  • 6910p upgraded to 8.1 no extended display with RGB or S Video

I upgraded my 6910p to windows 8.1 from Vista, however I cannot get the display to "extend" using an RGB cable and external monitor nor using S video and an HDTV.  I have a "Generic PnP monitor" and "Microsoft basic display adapter."
What can i do to fix?  I guess video card needs upgraded?  Is that even possible?

    Hey Cfo20,
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums. Here is a link to troubleshoot LED not displaying.

  • RGB poor quality compared to CMYK

I have a vector map which was brought from iStock and changed the color on it. The edited version is in CMYK format and I need both a CMYK version for print and RGB for screen.
The map needs to be used in PowerPoint and I have tried to zoom in quite far onto a specific country. I found that when zooming the CMYK map was absolutely fine, but I needed to use the RGB version. When I inserted the RGB the quality was significantly poorer than the CMYK one (see maps below) and I can't work out why!
Unfortunately, the map needs to be in jpeg or png format for PowerPoint, as it won't support EPS's or PDF's. I converted the map to png, which was slightly better but still not as good as the CMYK version.
Both the RGB and CMYK maps are exactly the same size (document size, file size, dpi etc). I changed the colour profile when converting to RGB (File -> Document Colour Modes -> RGB), when exporting it to JPEG I ensured that RGB was selected. I just cannot work out why the CMYK is perfect and RGB isn't and I've never had this issue before!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you for your responses.
Mylenium - I dont think it is an issue with PP, I wondered that before and zoomed right in on the jpeg of both the RGB and CMYK in Window's Photo Viewer. As in PP the CMYK zoomed in quite far and looked clear before eventually pixelating, but when I zoomed in on the RGB, it began to blur and pixelate quite soon.
JET - The idea of the screenshot is good, but it's a shared corporate PP that a number of different people will be using, I'm the only one with access to AI to actually open and screenshot the vector. We really need to have the whole map in there any just move it and crop to the relevant location, if that makes sense?
I take it that there aren't any settings that I need to change, or should ensure are set? I just can't understand why the CMYK version is ok and does what I need it to do, but the RGB version is awful!
I also increased the DPI from 300 to 400dpi and it made no difference
I am working in Illustrator CS6 and PP is Windows 2010. Also, I'm woking on Windows 7PC.

  • Converting new CMYK logo to RGB for web, poor results

I have a new logo using 4 cmyk colors. (we print a lot and always print cmyk, not spot/Pantone). When I convert to RGB, especially the blue and somewhat the green-- lose vibrancy. The blue is pure cyan, 100-0-0-0. The left image is a screen grab of cmyk and right is rgb. You often lose vibrancy going from RGB to CMYK, which is not surprising considering the limitations of CMYK. But why an issue going the reverse? Same result in photoshop & illustrator.
What is the best way to create an RGB version of a CMYK or Pantone logo that is as consistent on the web as possible? This logo needs to be colorful and saturated, so the blue looking dull is more serious. Thanks.

Use document >> color mode >> RGB. You will then have much more vibrancy when tweaking RGB colors, and be designing in a space that matches your output.
If you have not color calibrated your monitor do that first. I would also hold up a printed piece to the monitor and match your RGB document to that. That will take away any monitor color shift to press.
When you are done write down the RGB numbers, not the CMYK numbers, and use the RGB numbers for future RGB doucuments. I got 0, 155, 230 for my monitor calibration North AmericanGP2.
