LabView 2012 32-bit, creating an installer to run on Windows 7 64-bit

Hello I have the full development LabView system installed on a 32-bit PC running Windows XP.  I'm trying to create in an installer that will be ran on a 64-bit machine running Windows 7.  I'm able to create the installer, but when I try to run the installer I get on the Windows 7 64-bit machine I get:
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running.  Check your computer’s system information to see whether
you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."
I tried changing the compatibility mode under properties, without any success.  What else can be causing this issue.  Thanks.

There should be abolutely no problem installing or running a 32 bit LabVIEW executable in windows 64 bit. I do it all the time.
There must be something else. can you give a bit more details about your application? Are you including the runtime engine in the installer?
"I tried changing the compatibility mode under properties, without any success"
What exactly did you do here?
LabVIEW "full" does not allow building applications or installers unless you also have the application builder. I guess you have that.

  • NI Labview 2012 64 bit incompatible

    Hi guys,
    i have a labview 2012 SP1 (32-bit) and labview 2013 (32-bit) installed on my PC.
My PC running on Windows 7 Ultimate.
i want to installed  Labview 2012 SP1 (64-bit) but it give me this error (refer to picture attach)
    i read on the http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/71E9408E6DEAD76C8625760B006B6F98
    and it says
    Q. Can I have both LabVIEW 32-bit and LabVIEW 64-bit installed on the same 64-bit machine?
    A. Yes.
does anyone have the same problem?

You also have to watch out for drivers.  If you try to install the old drivers, they will not install.  You will want to reinstall the newest drivers if you want to use them with your older version of LabVIEW (assuming the drivers are compatible with that version of LabVIEW).

  • Spartan 3E with Labview 2012 (32 bit) on WIndows 7 64-bit - Error Code: -310602 NI-COBS: Unable to communicate with device over communication cable.

Thanks for the info, Kyle.  I will probably try to find an older 32-bit XP machine.  VM is just not an option for me right now.

    Hello everybody,
I am trying to use the DIgilent Spartan 3E board with Labvew 2012 SP1 32 bit.  I am able to compile the example code for LED shift.  I am however unable to transfer code to the FPGA.  I get the following error message:
    Error Code: -310602
NI-COBS:  Unable to communicate with device over communication cable.
Please verify that the cable is connected to a supported device and that the appropriate drivers are installed.
My system configuration is as follows:
Windows 7 (64 bit) on Dell XPS laptop.
    Labview 2012 SP1 (32 bit)
    Labview FPGA 2012 SP1
Labview 2012 FPGA support for Spartan3E
    Xilinx 13.4 tools
DEFB LV FPGA 2012sp1 support installer
Xilinx USB cable driver v1.3 installed.
I took all the precautions mentioned by others on this forum and others, mainly that the cable must be disconnected before installing the Xilinx cable driver. All software and drivers were installed correctly.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Labview software set I had.  I still get the same error.
    A few other questions:
    1.  Is the Xilinx cable different from a regular USB cable of the same configuration ?
    2.  When I program the FPGA I only have the USB cable connected between my computer and the Spartan 3e board.  Should any other cable be connected ?
    3.  What should be the correct jumper settings for J1 - JP30 (especially J30, J11, JP9, JP6, JP7, etc) ?
I have been at this or over 3 days trying to figure it out.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • How to replace the LabView logo at the top left corner of running VI windows

    Hi All
I need to replace the Labview logo (at the top left corner of the windows) when my VI is running. Same thing applies for any of the pop up windows I have in my program.
I have a .jpg file of the logo I would like to replace the Labview logo with. I would appreciate any help on the best way to go about this.
    Thanks in Advance

    > It's also worth bearing in mind that since you have a .jpg there are free online converters that will generate the .ico file from your .jpg if you don't have access to a graphics package that allows you to make .ico files.

  • Installing NI-USRP for LabVIEW 2012

It's been a few months since LabVIEW 2012 was released. Is there a supported way to install NI-USRP support for LabVIEW 2012 or does a new installer of NI-USRP need to be released? As of right now, NI-USRP 1.1 is available and installs support up to LabVIEW 2011 but not LabVIEW 2012.
    Thank you!

    Dr Spaceman,
Generally we recommend that most people use the 32 bit version of LabVIEW unless they are planning on using our vision software. Many of our toolkits and modules only work with LabVIEW 32 bit. This article talks more about the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit. http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/71E9408E6DEAD76C8625760B006B6F98

  • Create installer and running: MsiError 87: Unable to format error record.

Ever since I have installed the Labview 2011 beta I am in trouble when creating installers that include the NI runtime.
Whether it is Labview 2010 or 2011, when I have created the installer and run it, I -and everybody else- gets the warning:
    MsiError 87: <Unable to format error record.>
    And the installer qwill quit.
When I exclude the runtime from the installer it works nicely. What can I do to fix it?

Did any of you actually read the beta agreement?
Issues with the beta are not be be discussed in public so don't keep posting here.
The terms and conditions of the beta program are posted on the beta site and you agreed to them, so make sure to fully understand them. The only public information is that a beta exists. Everything else is confidential.
Let me put it in a few simple words:

  • CRASH: Replacing enums in statecharts can bring LabVIEW 2012 down

    Environment
    Windows 8 64-bit, LabVIEW 2012 32-bit
    Steps to reproduce
    Open the attached project
    Open Statechart.lsvc/Diagram.vi
Double-click on the blue Transition in the middle, navigate to Guard
Right-click on the enum constant -> Replace -> Select a VI...
    Choose "Enum 2.ctl"
The "Select the VI to Open" dialog pops up again. Select "Enum 2.ctl" again
Observe first weird behaviour: The Guard block diagram is replaced by the enum's front panel
    Click "Cancel"
Double-click on the blue Transition again. LabVIEW crashes here.
    Error messages
I first encountered this in a large project with a complex statechart. This was the message shown before LabVIEW died:
With the small example I attached, there was no message at the time of crash -- LabVIEW just aborted silently. When I restarted, it showed (tested twice, same message):

    Hi JKSH,
Sorry for the incorrect post, I was talking with one of my colleagues on this issue. I was able to reproduce the issue on Windows 7 32-bit and LabVIEW 2013 (32-bit). I filled a bug report (called a Corrective Action Request or CAR) on the issue. The CAR number is 421985. You can use this to track when the CAR will be fixed as there will be a list of resolved CARs in the release notes. I also wanted to post that the workaround for this error is to just add the VI manually and then delete the original VI (as opposed to using the replace feature).
Thanks for helping find this bug.
    Thanks,
    Best Regards,
    Bill

  • LabVIEW 2012 used to hang at shutdown, now hangs at launch ("Initializing menus")

    Hello,
I'm running Windows 8 64-bit, and have LabVIEW 2012 32-bit (12.0f3). I started using it a few days ago, and was never able to shut down LabVIEW properly. I could close my projects, but when I then tried to exit LabVIEW from the home screen, the GUI simply stop responding, and I'd have to forcibly kill it. Then, I installed the latest VIPM, and noticed that I can't shut that down properly either (I believe VIPM is implemented in LabVIEW?). None of my non-LabVIEW-based programs have this issue.
Then, I tried to install OpenG from within VIPM, which launched LabVIEW itself. However, that hung at "Initializing menus".
I'm not sure if VIPM had anything to do with it, but now, I'm unable to start LabVIEW altogether. Even after restarting my machine (using the Restart option, not Windows 8's Hybrid Boot), LabVIEW would hang at "Initializing menus". Task Manager shows 0% CPU activity, and LabVIEW had only taken ~20MB of memory.
What could be the cause, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Ok, I:
Uninstalled ALL National Instruments, JKI, and IVI software.
    Rebooted
Manually deleted residual NI, JKI, and IVI files/folders
Cleaned the Windows registry of NI, JKI, and IVI entries
    Rebooted
Checked Task Manager to ensure that no NI service eluded deletion
Installed LabVIEW 2012 from the NI Developer Suite DVD (LabVIEW only -- no other components)
    Rebooted
    Launched LabVIEW
LabVIEW launches now, but I'm still unable to shut it down properly... One day it will probably refuse to launch too.
    Some help please?

  • Issues with windows 7 after Labview 2012 installation

    Hi
I am having some issues after installing Labview 2012 on machines running Windows 7. Firstly, after installing a program on a user's machine, the machine sometimes takes 20 minutes to boot up before the user can log on. The 'Please Wait' message appears during this time. This is also the case on the development machine.
Secondly, on the development machine, I am having an issue when trying to run compiled programs created in Labview. When installing, everything works fine but when I go to open the program, it appears on the task bar for a brief period before closing. It does not appear in the task manager either. I have tried this on 2 other machines with windows 7 and Labview installed and still get the same issue.
Any help on these matters would be much appreciated. Thank you

    Hi
Firstly, looking at the issue with the slow Windows 7 boot up time, as Norbert_B suggested the Windows Event Log is a good starting point to find the root of the problem. The following link describes how to launch “Event Viewer” and some common problems:
    http://itexpertvoice.com/home/what%E2%80%99s-taking-so-long-how-to-fight-slow-startup-times-in-windo...
Aside from that, if your computer is part of a domain, the problem may be connected with certain Windows Services that start automatically on boot up. I recommend trying the following steps:
Open up “Control Panel” go to “System and Security” then “Administrative Tools” from here launch “Services”.
Sort the list by name and scroll down to “Network Store Interface Service” right click and select “Properties”. Under the startup type dropdown select “Automatic (Delayed Start)”.
Next scroll down to the “WebClient” service again under “Properties” this time select “Disabled” under the startup type.
As for the problem with running LabVIEW executables, I have a few questions:
Do you get any error codes when it closes automatically?
Does this occur for multiple executables or just one in particular?
Does the code run without a problem within LabVIEW?
Have you tried to update LabVIEW?
    What hardware are you running?
Without this information I can only think it may be caused by the Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) security feature. So you can try the following steps:
Right click on “Computer” and select “Properties”.
Click on “Advanced System Settings” and select the “Advanced tab, then under the performance section click “Settings”.
Click the “Data Execution Prevention” tab.
Make sure it is activated for essential Windows programs and services only, or you have an exception for your EXE.

Hi Shada this can happen if you are including additional installers to your installer for example DAQmx. When you are doing this the installer has to include other files like MAX (Measuremente and Automation Explorer). Probably when you installed Vision Builder it updated MAX, so when your installer is trying to Include MAX, its asking for the source where it was installed in your computer in this case Vision Builder.
Here you can cache the information so its not asked again, or you can download a newer version fo DAQmx, so it will update MAX and change de dependecy.
You can find more details about this issue in this KB:

  • Labview 2012 32bit running in 64 bit windows

    Hello Sir/MAdam,
I have recently installed LabView 2012 on 64-bit windows 7. It seems LabView is 32-bit. When I run a simple code for reading digital inputs, it does not response while when I run this code on LabView 2010 running on a 32-bit PC it works!
Could this problem be because of 32-bit LabView 2012 running on my 64-bit windows. I also installed drivers which support 64-bit.
I attached the simple code I am using for reading digital inputs.
I appreciate in advance your kind help.
    Thanks,
    soroush.

    Soroush,
At this point it's still a little hard to say what may be causing this problem. Have you tried running any other I/O examples included with LabVIEW? Are these also unresponsive on the 64-bit machine running LabVIEW 2012?
Are you able to see any values using the Test Panels for the simulated cards in the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)?
I don't think this is related to the 32- or 64-bit architecture of the computer, but hopefully we can help you figure something out.
    Best regards,

I created an exe using Labview 2012.  I had the user install the latest rte (lvrte2013).  The exe would not run and told the user it needed 2012 rte.  Do users have to have the same rte for each exe?

Yes.  But the various RTEs can coexist on the same PC.
