  • I have an existing application need to add LabVIEW OPC Server

I have an existing application written in LabVIEW which controls a Device. The data from the device is currently logged to the local drive.
It is desired to upgrade this application to become an OPC Server so that the manager can remotely acquire data and control the Application.
What would be the easiest approach to accomplish this task?
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Gary

    Hello Dan,
    1. The operator specifies a time interval to save the data to disk. The data is stored in a csv file.
     2. The manager is the Engineer who is managing the data collection system remotely.
3.The desired end result is to have the LabVIEW with an OPC server provide the connectivity to an OPC client so that they can collect the data, that they desire from the system, and control the system.
    4. Controlling the system is secondary. Providing the connectivity so that an OPC client can specify what data is to be sent and the update interval is the first priority.  For example, they may only be interested
in 10 of say 30 parameters, and want that data sent over every 10 seconds or so. The data once they receive it will be logged to a central data base.
We suggested using TCP/IP but they do not want a custom interface.
We also suggested Modbus, but they perfer to use OPC. The want to integrate it with their OSI PI.
     Thanks and Best Regards,
    Gary

  • LabVIEW OPC Connection

    Hi,
Could anybody send me an example for LabVIEW to connect to an OPC Server
to read/write IOs from a plc. I have to connect to a Siemens plc via
SIMATIC NET OPC Server. Or maby you can post a link for further
information and/or examples because i couldn't find any at the NI
    Developer zone.
    Thanks,

  • LabVIEW OPC UA support ?

    Hello All,
Does anyone know when OPC UA will be supported in DSC and NI OPC servers?
    BR,
    Jim

HI, I'm trying to connect to an Arburg injection moulding machine from Labview 2013. The machine has got an OPC UA server running and is configured with TCP/IP, I've connected using UAExpert but not LV.  NI OPC doesn't seem to detect either the Arburg OPC server or the UAExpert OPC server. Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be welcome.
    regards

  • LabView OPC client versus Opto22 Ethernet brain SNAP B3000

I'm trying to use some OPC examples from the LabView 6i library connecting my PC to the OPC server provided by the Opto22 Ethernet brain SNAP B3000. Every time the program access the brain it hangs up. There is any known mismatch between the two implementations of the OPC communications or what I miss?

NI has a good troubleshooting utiltiy to view OPC servers as an OPC client. Contact NI directly and we can get you this troubleshooting utility.

  • How does labview opc communication with plc affect timing for the actual plc application

    Hi Everyone,
I have a doubt and thus want to start a discussion regarding communication with PLC's from NI OPC server.
Let's imagine you have a production machine like a caping machine for a bottle production line, let's say the PLC on this machine is a Siemens S7300 which according to NI is compatible with NI OPC server.
The PLC would have already been programmed by the company who sells the machine to control it correctly.
The question is, if you'd like to add an interface, and all the capabilities that LabVIEW offers to this machine by controlling/monitoring its PLC, returning its alarms etc...
In that configuration is there a possibility that the LabVIEW application you would devellop affects the PLC's Behaviour and thus the machine functionality or yield and thus would have a negative impact?
Thanks a lot for your answers.
    Best Regards,

    Hi Olivioloyer Good Morning:
The issue here is that if you want to control, display and log data and funcionality from that PLC through LabVIEW you will have to change the program on the PLC to work correctly with your Interface and Alarming program that you will create in LabVIEW. If you develop a well designed architecture and an efficient code there will be no negative impact on yout PLC, on the contrary you will expand the funcionality and capability of your application.
Note: You will need to change your PLC program to achieve correct functionality with what your LabVIEW code will do.(Send and receive control commands). If you just want to monitor your PLCs behaviour, your code will be much more simple and maybe no change will be required on the PLCs program.

  • Data access in Teststand/LabVIEW through OPC connection

We are using TestStand 2.0 and LabVIEW6.2 and following problem occurs when accessing the datas from UUT through OPC.
For the first UUT i get the measurement datas but starting the next UUT causes a system hang up. The corresponding LabVIEW VI stops at the connect to the OPC Server it doesn't read the selected item. Only with LabVIEW there is no problem launching OPC data access for multiple times. Does anyone have expierence with this configuration: TestStand-LabVIEW-OPC?

For your information, there is a new TestStand Add-on "OPC DA Connect" which adds a StepType Palette dedicated to OPC Data Access.
You can configure each step by browsing the OPC servers on your network and browsing variables within these servers.
This toolkit has free deployment licence.
    Hoping this helps.

  • OPC Connection faliure/status using LabView & Protool

    Hi there,
we are integrating NI Vision solution into Siemens Step7/Protool automation environment. Two CVS modules perform visual inspection and communicate via Ethernet with Siemens Protool vizualization/GUI application running on Windows XP based PC. Protool is serving as OPC 2.0 compliat server and LabView "helper" application on PC is mirroring OPC data to and from NI PSP (Shared variable) domain which NI CVS-es use to communicate. All works well until we shut down and/or restart Protool (and thus the OPC service along with it).
Helper application fails to acknowledge any Connection Status change (as its status remains: Connected) if/when OPC is turned off ... furthermore once the Protool OPC is up and running again the values in LabView OPC bound items within helper app. cease to be updated although their Connection Status Property is shown as: Connected throughout ...
Has anyone had a similar problem? What could be the cause/solution to the behavior described?
    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

    Hi Mike,
LabView "helper" app. is residing on Win PC and has controls that are data-bound to ProTool OPC via datasocket. The PC hosts shared variables that CVS-es use to communicate to PC. helper app. is transfering data between ProTool OPC and NI PSP network as necessary. If OPC is "power cycled" the "datasocket LED" of OPC DataBound controls remains green as nothing happened! If we use DataSocket (DS) pallete to programatically open DS conneciton to an OPC item, connection is rejected if OPC is not running, but once connected the "connection:status" property wont change if we shutdown the OPC!
Why is this happening? Is there a manner to detect the "running" status op OPC? Is there a more elegant way to bring OPC and NI PSP network together that would bypass the need for data pooling? Would the functionality of DSC help, like "register for events notification" function?
We would sure could use a quick soultion to this ...
    Thx and regards, Robert

  • OPC Server Remote Connection LabVIEW 8

    Hi
Currently I am trying to access a VI with a Shared Variable from a remote computer using an OPC Client. I haven´t succeed on this becasue I cannot find the OPC Server on the Host Computer.
Here is what I am using:
    Host Computer:
    Windows XP SP2
    NI Developer Suite November 2005
    LabVIEW 8 with DSC Module.
Remote Computer: The same as above.
    Here´s what I have done.
I created a new project with a library that included a Network Published Shared Variable. The VI is quite simple it just generates a number that is written to the Shared Variable. Once the VI was running I opened the Server Explorer on the host computer, browsed My PC and connected to the server Variable.Engine in which I was able to see my shared variable. Then on the Remote Computer I opened the Server Explorer and browsed on my Network Places and when I tried to access the Host Computer I got the following error: "Unable to connect to \\HOST! Make sure that this computer is on the network, has remote administration enabled, and that both computers are running the remote registry service"
I have tried by using the Matrikon OPC Server Explorer and I got the same results. I read many documents that refer tis problem as a DCOM setting because of the firewall fo XP SP2.
Here´s a list of the NI documents I reviewed.
How Can I set up LabVIEW, LabVIEW DSC, and Lookout to work with the windoes XP firewall

I never got the results I expected. Then I tried the Matrikon OPC Simulation Server and the Matrikon OPC Server Explorer(Client) and I Succesfully connected between Matrikon servers and clients.
My project is based in accesing the LabVIEW OPC server with a generic OPC client but I cannot get the client to connect to the server.
I will apreciate some advice on this issue.
    Marcos

    Marcos,
If you are using two instances of LabVIEW 8, I would first take the OPC part out and just try viewing Shared Variables on the remote computer.  This needs to work.  One document to check is the following KB: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/6E37AC5435E44F9F862570D2005FEF25?OpenDocument. I would also make sure the opcenum.exe service is running on both machines.
Once browsing to Shared Variables works, you can test the OPC aspect of the Shared Variable Engine.  Server Explorer is an older OPC 2 client, but should work in most cases to browse to OPC Servers -- you'll need to make sure the registry settings on the host computer are set up correctly as per the KB you mentioned, and also make sure to connect to the OPC Server, add a group, and add items manually from within Server Explorer, rather than using the Wizard.

  • LabVIEW and OPC Server

    Hola

    Saludos

  • What changes are needed in Server Operating system using OPC with Labview

I am a novice trying to connect Labview into KepwareEX OPC server. I am using MS Windos XP on both sides. at first I could see no OPC server I checked with the Kepware and they suggested me to fix the DCOM configuration on the Server. at last I saw the OPC Server and their client connected to it.
When I try to assign a Datasocket connected to a control on Front panel in to OPC. System Browses and see the OPC server but after selecting the tag. when I run the software, connection Lamp gets red and this Error comes up ""Can't connect to OPC server. Registery Access denied" . the Kepware  quick client is working OK. and Labview got connected when I tested it on the same server. I think there is something wrong with Server OS configuration cause I can not See the Labview OPC Server too, which is installed but I am not using it, Can anybody help me ?

    Hello:
When you try creating a new I/O server and when you select OPC, you should be able to see the list of OPC servers installed in the system. You can select LabVIEW OPC and select a I/O item from the configure OPC client instance.
From what I understand you are able to connect from LabVIEW just fine. Are you able to use server explorer and connect to kepware? The following tutorial will step you through using OPC servers with LabVIEW.
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3742
DSC is LabVIEW add-on for developing your HMI/SCADA or high-channel-count data-logging applications. With the DSC Module, you can interactively develop a distributed monitoring and control system with tags ranging from a few dozen to tens of thousands. The following link has a TCP modbus presentation that you will find useful.
    http://www.ni.com/labview/labviewdsc/upgrade.htm
Please let us know the steps you are following to configure the OPC connections and post some snapshots. This will help in better understanding.
    Thanks and hope this helps

  • OPC Tunneller

Any issues with Matrikon OPC Tunneller and Labview DSC?
Here is the answer I got from Matrikon, just want to hear if there is any experience here.
    Hi Bob
Tunneller has no known issues with LabView OPC client. Tunneller tends to need very little configuration (in fact, only the IP address is needed) in order to work correctly. If you run into anything during the installation or configuration please let us know and we can assist further.

I went to site the next day after posting this and tested the Tunneller client with the site system.  I had talked to the IT people prior to leaving and as long as you know all the right settings it makes using OPC clients in DSC very easy when a firewall is in place.
Once the Tunneller is open, the OPC server of interest appears on your local machine when browsing from your LabView project.

  • OPC and 16 bit integers

    Hi everybody,
I have a very time consuming problem with opc programming in labview: I need
to write 16 bit integers with the labview opc client to the server - and I
don't know how to do this because of the limitation of the labview Vi's to
    32 bit integers.
    Any suggestion is very welcome.
    Bernd Szyszka

What is the limitation? LabVIEW has 8,16, and 32 bit integers - both signed
    and unsigned.

  • IFM Octavis OPC server does not update

I am trying to monitor values from an IFM Octivas system using OPC server. Variant data will only update once after every computer reboot. Can read from Labview OPC Demo server fine. Can read all Octavis data but no update with Labview while Octavis Demo server can read the OPC data, so IFM suggests that the problem must lie with Labview.
    Any suggestions?

    Fred,
Can you read the value being updated directly from the OPC server?  Usually you can just view the values and see if they are updating.
The next thing to check would be to use the shared variable monitor to see if the variables that are bound to the OPC server are updating.  It is under Tools >> Shared Variable >> Variable Manager.
Also, when you have the program running, do you get any type of error from reading the shared variable?  If you are seeing an error, it would give us a little more insight into what is going on.
