LabVIEW saves control values automatically - resulting in large files

Hello,
I have a problem in LabVIEW. I'm using Vision Development Module and when I save the VI the file is very large (few MB). When I open it back in LabVIEW it turns out that all values on front panel controls have been saved (including images, what makes the file so big).
Somehow LabVIEW saves the VI with controls values by default, even if I don't want to do that.
How to turn it off?

Hi Daresh,
I think that simply reinitializing the controls (and indicators probably) might solve your problem.
Please take a look at this knowledge base, to find out how to do this programmatically and let me know, if this resolved your issue.
Have a great day!
Best regards,
Jano

  • How to save controls value in labview

    hi
i want to know how to save the controls value in PC. means if i assign 5  digital value to a control it should remain there even i restarts my PC.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This can mean two things. Will the default value always be 5? You could right click the control, select Data Operations, then Make Current Values Default. This can only be done at edit time and the value is saved with the vi. If you know you will always need the same default value then do this. If you need the user to be able to change the default value without editing and saving the vi then see the post by smercurio_fc above.

  • Unable to save the webi report results in CSV file in XIR2 environment

    Hi Team,
We have one WebI report in BOXIR2 version and it fetching nearly 76+ records in the report. The report is running fine without any issues and when i am trying to export the results into CSV file we are getting the error msg (Maximum Binary file size exceeded WIS30271). The file size is more than 80MB and hence it throwing this error. I have checked the Maximun Binary File size that is set in CMC and it is set to 80MB.
When i ran the same query in the database and exporting the results in to csv file the file size is under 80MB. I would like to know the reason why there is a difference in the file size when running the query manually in database and exporting in to csv file and to export the results set in to csv through business objects.

Below are the possible causes to get this error message:
1] When a large Web Intelligence report is exported to CSV format, we get error: Max Binary file size limit exceeded. The document is too large to be processed by the server. Error WIS 30271
    Cause
This error message appears because BusinessObjects Enterprise allows documents to be saved with the limit specified for Web Intelligence Report server settings in the Central Management Console(CMC).
To resolve the error follow the below steps:
    - Login to Central Management Console (CMC) using BusinessObjects Enterprise "Administrator".
    - Navigate to "Home >> Servers".
    - Click on "Web Intelligence Report Server" to open its properties.
    - Increase the "Maximum Binary File Size"(Default value=50 MBytes; Maximum value = 65535 MBytes).
    - Click on "Apply" and then on "Update".
    - Allow the Web Intelligence server to restart.
2] In Web Intelligence, when attempting to save a report to Excel or Portable Document Format  (PDF), the following error message appears:
"Max binary file size limit exceeded. The document is too large to be processed by the server. Contact your database administrator. (Error: WIS 30271)".
    Cause:
This error message appears because Business Objects Enterprise allows documents to be saved up to the limit set for Web Intelligence Report Server in the Central Management Console (CMC).  The default file size limit is 50 megabytes for binary file types like PDF and Excel.
To resolve this error message, you will need to increase the Max Binary file size value.
    1.      Open the CMC.
    2.      Browse to Servers
    3.      Click on your Web Intelligence Report Server.
    4.      On the Properties page, increase the Maximum Binary File Size.
    5.      Apply the setting and allow the Web Intelligence Report Server to restart.
Increasing these values too high could impact Web Intelligence performance when users attempt to save excessively large files.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why can't I save control values while running an application in 6.1?

In Labview 5.1 I was able to save change control and indicator values while running the application. I accomplished this by using the MAKE CURRENT VALUES DEFAULT Method on a VI invoke node. How do I accomplish the same in 6.1?

If I remember correctly, the same limitation with the method existed in 5.1 as it does in 6.1 - namely you can't use the method while the VI is running. See here, here, and here for just a brief sample of the numerous times this question has come up and the possible solutions.

  • Quicktime "Save As Source" ALWAYS Result In Invalid File

When ever I try to save a file being played in Quicktime 7.0.1 PRO on a web page, the resulting file (although the correct size) always results in a corrupt file:
i.e. "QuickTime cannot open the file "<filename>"
it is not a file QuickTime understands (-2048).
This has only started since upgrading to QT7 and it is also applies to Internet Explorer, so I know this is a Quicktime problem.
If use "Download linked file" in either Safari or IE, the same file plays perfectly. But I can only do this if a link is available and not for an embedded file.
Can some tell me if there is a way to fix this problem/bug.
I have kept the system current with Software update.
    Thanks
    Gary

I upgraded to Quicktime Pro so I could "Save As Source" once the MP3 has downloaded fully into Safari.
It looks like your question has already been answered, so I will only comment that QT Pro isn't necessary in order to save files like MP3s from web pages. Sometimes it takes a bit of extra clicking around to be able to save files to your hard drive, but right-clicking on a link to a file should bring up a menu allowing you to "Download Linked File." In other cases, the Activity window can be of great help, and so on and so on.
For what it's worth, downloading your files as I've described will also get around the QT file association issue.
EDIT: I just took the time to read the link macmenno posted, and I see that Mr. Minow mentions the same approach to downloading linked files from web pages...

  • Saving TIFF with LZW compression results in larger file size.

I know this never used to be the case with previous versions of Photoshop, but since I upgraded to CS5.1, when I save files with LZW compression checked, the resultant file size is higher than if I uncheck the box.
For example one file with LZW compression is 56.3MB, and without it is 47.8mb
Is it just me, or have Adobe got their code mixed up?
Edit: This appears to only affect 16-bit images, with 8-bit images, LZW works as expected.
Message was edited by: Toundy. Added info about 16-bit images.

  • Exporting out of Pages to PDF results in large files

I frequently have to post files for my students to download in PDF. Many of these things are worksheets or outlines that have no pictures on them whatsoever. I've noticed recently that older things that I have exported from MS Word on the PC were significantly smaller than the things I'm currently exporting from Pages.  One recent comparison had an old MS Word export at 52Kb and a recent pages export at 135Kb.
Could the font I am using and embedding be effecting this?  Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
I feel like I'm using up a lot of space a lot of bandwidth unnecessarily by posting bigger files. Any help that anybody can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I created a 2 page, 877 word document (copied the text from here) in Arial and made a Pages and Word for Mac copy. I deleted the Pages Sections.
    Test sizes
Pages (blank portrait WP template): 126,006 bytes
Pages (above with sections deleted): 97,541 bytes
    Pages pdf : 24,751 bytes
    Word .doc: 34,304 bytes
    Word .docx: 144,575 bytes
    Word pdf: 33,692 bytes
The worst case is .docx and a Word pdf is almost 50% larger than a Pages pdf, which is itself 2/3rds the size of a native .doc file.

  • Encore: editing .avi clips results in large file

    Greetings!!!
So, I am using Encore CS5.1 in my attempt to edit some parts out of .avi clip.
The source clip is is around 500MB.
After I have set all the begin/end markers & got the desired output clip ready for rendering, I proceed with the
final rendition.  And then that is when things get funny.  The resulting clip (.avi) is over a gig! It should have been way less because I have actually cut stuff out.
And yes, I do retain the resolution of the source clip.
Why is this happening?  Please let me know if I am missing some settings.
    Thank you.

I can't discuss anything regarding copyright violation, not condoned. However, if you have a DVD that you made yourself, Premiere can edit that natively, no need to transcode. Open the DVD in your computer and go into the VIDEO_TS folder and there are .vob files inside. Copy the .vob files to your hard drive on the computer, then Import them into Premiere. There is no quality loss since you are not converting to another format (DVDs do not use .avi at all).
Do that, and do your cutting in Premiere and when done, go to File > Export > Media and in AME interface, choose "MPEG-2 DVD" as the format, and then an appropriate preset such as "NTSC Widescreen High Quality" or one that matches YOUR footage best. Under VIDEO tab, you'll want to adjust the data rate depending on program length. The formula 560/minutes=rate works well, though I like to round down a bit for safety and space that menus can consume.
So 560/120=4.66 and I would then encode at 4.5 and no worries (not to exceeed 8 on short movies). Import results to Encore to burn DVD. Another option from Premiere is to use Dynamic Link to go over to Encore, a more automated process. But no need to create an .avi intermediate, that just means time and quality lost, you want to export straight to MPEG-2 for DVD.

  • Automatically down-convert large files for the nano

For the iPod shuffle, there was a feature that automatically converted big files/high quality mp3 files down to a managable 128kbps when you upload mp3s to the shuffle.
Is there a feature like this for the nano? If no, anyone know if there will be? I'd like to conserve space/make the most of the space.

Do you know what you are talking about? That is not spam...that is directly related to your question. iTunes automatically formats the music when you import it into your library. • Video Stalls - Larger File Size

Just downloaded Battlestar Galactica season 2 and the video stalls at full screen. Do not have this problem with previous Battlestar Galactica shows and movies that I have downloaded in the past.
I notice the File Size and Total Bit Rate of the new shows are three times greater in size than the shows I've downloaded in the past.
Using the utility ativity monitor, I notice I'm maxing out my CPU when I go to full screen which I think is causing my video stall.
I also notice that now my previous TV show downloads don't fully fill my screen like that did before the new downloads.
I hope someone might know how I can get my TV shows back to working normal at full screen and why the new TV shows file sizes are larger than before.

  • When downloading a large file, like a movie Internet Explorer automatically provides one with the choice of where to save it - e.g. "C" drive, but Firefox doesn't. How can it be done?

When downloading a large file, like a movie, Internet Explorer automatically opens a download window offering the choice to "Open" or "Save"the file. This provides one with the choice of where to save it - e.g. "C" drive, in the "My Documents" or "Desktop" folders but Firefox's download window doesn't. This has always frustrated me because I would rather use Firefox exclusively to access the Internet, but when it comes to saving files downloaded off the Internet, sadly, I have to revert to IE!

If you click on Firefox from the upper-left, then Options, a new window should appear. On that window, click on the general tab. In the middle of the window, you'll see options regarding your downloads, one of which says, "Always ask me where to save files." Click on the bubble for this options, then click Ok. From then on, you should always be prompted on where you want your files saved.

  • Why is Save as . . . resulting in extra large jpgs?

Until recently when I saved a 1000px x 1000px file as a jpg at 10 in CS6 on a Mac with Snow Leopard, the resulting file would be about 600-700k. Now the same process results in at file twice that size, about 1.2-1.5 mb. I have tried everything I can think of to find the source and correction for this phenomenon. Save for the Web works normally.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes I do embed the color profile, srgb, just as I always have. And no I have very little in the metadata.
A few days ago, I updated cs6 and then read that the update makes changes in files to accommodate the new retina displays from Apple, which I do not use (I have a NEC). My copy of cs5 behaves normally; it is only cs6 that creates larger jpg files. Perhaps I need to uninstall, reinstall, and not update?
    Thanks for your replies.

  • Are resultant database values automatically stripped of any escaping?

Hello, my question is very simple:
When using JDBC, are the values that result from a SELECT query automatically stripped of all escaping characters, such as backslashes, that may have been added when data was added to the database?
I ask this because in PHP, one must add slashes to escape single quotes manually, while in Java, a PreparedStatement will automatically do this.
I am just curious if Java will automatically remove any slashes that may have been added to escape single quotes?
If so, what if just a Statement was used and the programmer added the escaping himself. Would Java still return values that have already been stripped of SQL statement escaping?

The above is either unclear or just wrong.
In java you can create a string like this (the slashes are not necessary here but are legitimate and used for the discussion.)
    String sql = "select * from mytable where name = \'harry\'";
Now the ticks are escaped. But that has nothing to do with the database nor with JDBC. They are escaped because that is how the java language does it. The java compiler removes the escape character during the creation of the class file. The database will never see the backslashes.
Now you could also create the following
    String sql = "select * from mytable where name = 'harry''s'";
In this case the two ticks together represent an escape sequence. The database will see all of the ticks. However the database knows that two ticks together represent a special value. So instead of expecting a delimiter, as with the single ticks, it will treat them as a single character which also happens to be a tick. It will then store it in the database as "harry's".
Now the JDBC does not 'strip' escaped slashes because there are no slashes to escape.
There is only one case in java where one needs to escape a tick, and that is in the following form.
    char c = '\''; // Set c to a tick character.
Just as with the string example above the compiler removes this. Something simpler happens in PHP.
For databases, whether java is involved or not, ticks in a text value must be escaped with two ticks.

  • Saving the Control Values on a Front Panel

I am creating a VI in which I have approximately 10 front panel controls that can be changed by a user. Instead of entering the same values over an over again, I would like to provide the user the option to save a set of control values that can then be loaded the next time around via a drop-down box. Before I began I just wanted to see if anyone had done anything similar. I was stumped as to how to approach it. Any suggestions?
    Matt

    Matt,
You can also use a datalog file. LabVIEW can write and read clusters to a file, and as long as the cluster don't change you should be fine.
Basically your code would grab the value of each control, bundle it into a cluster and save that cluster to a file. For reading, you read your cluster from the file and get each individual value to drop it in the right control.
I'm sure there are some shipping examples on this too.
    I hope this helps.
