LabWindows/CVI Process Communications

I have a LabWindows/CVI application (executable) that must launch a second executable via the "LaunchExecutableEx" library function.  When the second executable terminates, it must return an integer value to the first executable.  Other than the horrid solution of using a disk file, how can this be done?
Maybe by using a shared DLL?
Thanks.

    Turbo,
There isn't a document that covers all the features from 6.0 to 2009, though there are documents that talk about individual upgrades.
    http://www.ni.com/lwcvi/whats_new.htm
Also this document covers the upgrades since 8.0  http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/7995
There have been quite a few upgrades, you can always download an evaluation version and test it out for yourself http://www.ni.com/lwcvi/try.htm

  • Using Labwindows CVI Version 10.0.1 USB communication with FTDI FT2232D to unit under test.

Communication with unit under test works fine in hypterminal after I downloaded virtual driver from FTDI site.
Never done any USB communication before in LabWindows CVI. What functions can I use in labwindows CVI?

Since the device presents itself as a COM port (pretty standard with the FTDI chips) you should be able to use the RS-232 library in CVI.  OpenComConfig() will open a connection to the device, ComWrt() will write data to it, and the various ComRd() functions can be used to read the responses back.

  • Any LabWindows/CVI examples for SPI communication using DAQmx?

I have a PXIe-6363 module in a PXI running as a real time target, and I'm trying to talk to an accelerometer that communicates with SPI.  I know the 6363 isn't one of the special modules built for SPI, but my understanding is it should be capable; the issue is just the programming.  I've seen examples of this for LabVIEW using DAQmx.  Are there any examples out there for doing it in LabWindows/CVI?
I'm looking to save time and avoid reinventing the wheel here.  SPI is easy on an Arduino, so it should be doable in LabWindows/CVI, right?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hey Matt,
I was unable to find any full examples of SPI communication with DAQmx in C. My best suggestion would be to use the LabVIEW examples and implement the same series of function calls to implement the LabVIEW code in C. The DAQmx C API is good about keeping a standard with naming conventions to map with the function names in LabVIEW.

  • Interopérabilité entre labview et labwindows/CVI

    Bonjour,

  • How to discard or release mutex in labwindow CVI.

    Hi,
How to  release mutex  in labwindow CVI.
I have one existing DLL . This DLL  using method 'CreateMutex(NULL, TRUE, "USBDriverRunning");' .
We need  to create another dll , this DLL be  release Mutex   'USBDriverRunning'.
    Thanks
    Mukesh Kumar

CreateMutex returns an handle that is to be passed to ReleaseMutex for releasing the resource. After that you must call CloseHandle on the same handle to clean up everytging.
I don't know whether the handle of a mutex created with NULL in the first parameter can be passed to another DLL; I have never tried to do something similar but be careful with the following note int he function help:
If this parameter is NULL, the handle cannot be inherited by child processes.
You will need to carefully read the Remarks section of the function help and make your own tests.

  • How to use the checksumdll.lib in LabWindow/CVI to create CRCChecksum();

    Hi All,
Any one know how to use the checksumdll.lib in LabWindow/CVI to create CRCChecksum() ?
    Thank you.

Do you ave some documentation about that dll?
Have you looked into dll properties searching for vendor name? Maybe you can look int vendorìs site and obtain some help.
Ultimately: are you forced to use that dll or can you use any software to calculate the checksum? There are several CRCs that you can use: provided you know which is the type used you could find an algorithm to calculate the CRC and check an existing one.

  • How to get bar graph in word in labwindow/CVI ?

how to get bar graph in word in labwindow/CVI ?

    ashwinic9,
spawning your question over more and more threads (the present one, this one and this other one) won't give you a faster answer; instead, it will irritate forum users!
Especially if you have at your disposal a fast way to perform a test. I pointed you some days ago to word report example, that writes a table to a word document: did you tried changing the graph into a bar graph and generating the report? I have done it for you and the result is OK, as you can see in the attached document.
Now, since the example works well, there must be something in your particular situation that prevents the graph to be shown; that is: you must add some more data on your actual problem and maybe a small example that exposes the problem.
But please: keep active only this discussion and let the other threads die!

  • How to edit the list box items in labwindow/CVI?

how to edit the list box items in labwindow/CVI?

Listbox items cannot be edited directly in the control: what you can do is to select a line an, transfer its content to a textbox control, edit text there and move text back to the listbox control. Available interactions with the listbox control are listed in the help.
An alternative to it is to use a tree customized to appear like a listbox: tree item labels can be edited directly in the control, at least those in the base column of the tree. You can look at the example \samples\userint\treelist.cws that shows how a tree can be customized this way. I haven't opened it, but this old example too should show the ability to edit tree cells.

  • How to Change Brightness, Contrast and Saturation of an image in LabWindows/CVI (Urgent) ?

    Hi All
I want to change brightness, contrast and saturation of an image, plz help me how it will possibe in labwindows/cvi
    Thanks

CVI does not include native functions to operate such changements on an image.
It may be possible that these functions are included in IMAQ library, but I never used ot so I'm not sure. In any case, this is an additional tool to install and it is not free.
Alternatively, you may need to search for a third party library that offers such functions.

  • Status Bar in LabWindows/CVI

             Hello,
I'm new in LabWindows/CVI. Is it possible to compose a status bar, like in C#, in LabWindows/CVI? Moreover, how can I place the buttons, that I composed before, onto the tabs or decoration tools?
             Good days...

If you are intending a ribbon at the panel footer where to show informations and optionally add buttons, at present CVI does not have such a control.
It has a toolbar control, instead, so if you can reverse your design so that a toolbar can be used, you can find the control into <cvidir>\toolslib\custctrl\toolbar.fp
There is also a demo project that you can look at: you can find it with the example finder (Help >> Find examples... menu function).

    Hi All
I have a 3D image and i want to rotate its x,y and z axis, how it is possible kindly help me.
    Regards
    Umer

    Hello Umer
When you say that you want to rotate the 3D graph, you mean programmatically? as you can rotate the 3D object using your mouse once the code is running.
To locate the examples in LabWindows/CVI that incorporate the 3D ActiveX Graph control, follow the steps below:
    Launch LabWindows/CVI.
Browse to Help » Find Examples » Communicating with External Applications » ActiveX » General.
    3.  Select any of 3D projects which include
    3DGraph.prj, 3DGraphAxis.prj, 3DGraphColorMap.prj, and 3DGraphContours.prj.RegardsMart G
