Lagging swf

what's up guys,
i've been away for a vacation and just returned. hope
everyone is well.
i also have a question:
i have a swf that works beautifully in my flash player, but
when published into an html file it seems to lag. i don't have any
onEnterFrame's or setIntervals that are not properly terminated.
anyone have any thoughts? one last thing, does anyone know if
publishing a swf to detect a user's flash version should include
some flash generated javascript? if not, what is a good way to
approach detecting a user's flash version (mac and pc) and linking
to an alternate html file?
thanks,
_name

For the lagging part... I can't say for sure. The browser
players are supposedly a little slower than the standalone player
so that could be part of it, and may have greater impact on fps etc
if there is a lot of code running in onEnterFrames or intervals if
its sluggish overall. If its just slow to start in comparison then
that could just be the download rate, especially if you have a lot
of code or symbols set to export on frame 1.
In terms of detecting flash version, I tend to use the
utility with swfobject (javascript) which I also use for embedding.
There are examples for what you want to do I think on the site,
plus the expressInstall option if you want to do that instead.

  • Video and audio not in sync, lags in swf.

Hi, I am making a kinetic typography for a class and I am having trouble with lagging audio. There is no problem when I work on it at school, just at home.
The clip is about 2:15 long. Right from the beginning when I export and play as an swf, the video begins but the audio lags and starts a second or two later. This is quite frustrating. Is there anything I can do to fix it? My teacher says it may be my video/graphics card at home but I don't think that's the issue. Any thoughts?

The audio is on a seperate layer on my timeline. How can I set it to stream? Sorry, I'm rather new with Flash.

  • SWF Lagging Problens

I'm having problens with my SWF files, there's a lag in the animation, first I thought the problem was my AS3 code so I did a simple example where I import two diferent imagens from the libary and incorporated in the AS3 code, after i did a simple animation where I move one of the imagens in the "X" axis. In the result SWF there is a lag, in the animation. I suppose that is a setting problem with the Flash runtime. I'm using: Flash Pleyr 11,8,800,97, Flash CC, Windows 7 64-bits.

    stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loop);

              if (bola.x >= 681) { num = -4; }
              bola.x += num;

It will varry by the computer your on because of such high frame rate for processing code on every frame.

  • Sound lag in with SWF in browser

    Hi,
I am working on a presentation that synchs a voice track with
animated text. When I view in Flash Player 8 everything is fine.
When I view the SWF in Internet Explorer, the text lags behind the
voice and seems to get slower as the presentation continues. Any
    ideas why this is happening?
    Flash 8, Windows 2000, IE 6.
I am on deadline and desperate. Any help will be greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Henry

Fixed it myself. In the properties tab for the sound, changed
    sync from "Event" to "Streaming".

  • Can someone take a look at my project and give me ideas to reduce lag/optimize it? (relatively new to flash and need help)

    Dropbox - TV_AL_Q
I really need to reduce the lag happening in this project. I know practically nothing about action script except for what I've used in this project so please keep that in mind.
Im going to try and break apart the grouped art so its in its most basic form and see if that helps, and also change all my tweens to frame by frame since those two things helped me with an animation I did awhile back that was lagging severely.
But I was hoping someone with more knowledge could take a look and see if there is anything that they know of that I could do to help fix this. I'm working in Flash cs6 and using action script 3.
I have to turn this project in by this Friday (the 20th) so I would love to get this sorted by then but even if I can't I would still be interested in some possible solutions, just for learnings sake.
    Thanks.

Thank you for yet another cryptic reply, remember I'm the idiot here who doesn't understand this stuff so please can you explain things in a little more detail. Thanks.
I am using the JW Player setup assistant and it lists two types of code
The "Embed code" and the "swfobject 1.5 code" but not an Object/Embed code that you mention.
This is the code that the website is telling me to use.
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/embed/swfobject.js"></script>
    This text will be replaced
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var so = new SWFObject('/embed/player.swf','mpl','480','270','9');
    so.addParam('allowscriptaccess','always');
    so.addParam('allowfullscreen','true');
    so.addParam('flashvars','&file=http://web.me.com/nathmac31/Flash/WaineWeddingHD. swf');
    so.write('player');
    </script>
My movie does play on through the player on the JW site, after about 30 seconds of waiting for the picture to appear. When I cut and paste the above code into my webpage, I don't get anything. I have dropped the "Player.swf" and "swfobject.js" files into the folder containing the contents of the page that I want the player to appear on.
Where is the exact best place to drop these files?

  • Export Book as SWF - formatting (single page on screen at start)

Was this book created in InDesign? http://www.qub.ac.uk/edu/Summer%2010%20Newsletter/
I am currently working on an annual report and when finished want to save it in various formats, one being export to SWF with page turns. I successfully tested this earlier. The cover and subsequent pages of the report are all A4 size, however when exported as SWF it shows on the screen in my browser as landscape with a white A4 page next to the cover (to the left) and at the end next to the back cover (to the right). Why is this?
Is there any way of exporting it so that as per the link above it starts of as a single page of just the cover and then goes into side by side pages when you turn the cover over and start reading?
Also, different to saving an INDD as a print quality pdf, when I export to SWF the quality seems reduced, especially with the images (I used original tiff images as it will also be printed and saved as press quality pdf). Is there any way of keeping it as sharp as if it were being saved as press quality pdf?
Finally, like the link above, can we add sound in InDesign to the swf page turns?

That example you linked has most certainly been done from PDF file by using some commercial service which converts PDF file to digital magazine. You can do similar publications from InDesign CS4 or CS5 too. Check out http://www.prepress.fi/eDocker_eng ....
If you want to get rid of that white area next to cover/backcover, simply draw a rectangle that overlaps a little with cover/backcover page, and color it gray. Just make sure it´s little bit bigger than your page size. InDesign exports it along SWF and if you use exactly same grey that has been used in background of html, nobody can see that empty area any more... here´s a sample: http://www.prepress.fi/e_newsS10
Color values for that grey box are (in CS5) R153 G153 B153 (see images)
If you have InDesign CS5 in use, you can add sound files to you indd. I have never used a page turn sound, but in theory it should work if you put a sound effect to every page and make it play automatically when page is opened... is it fast enough or is there some lag caused by loading..? I don´t know but if you have a sound file in right format, it´s easy to test.... and remember to test it also from server, not just locally...

  • Any ideas for reducing lag in my animation (flash cs6)?

I'm creating something for a local college in Flash CS6 and it lags in a couple spots (in the very beginning after clicking enter and after clicking on a location on the map) and it would obviously be really nice to get rid of that lag. The only thing i know to try in order to help with lag is to break down all grouped artwork and to convert tweens into frame by frame. I've done this and it hasn't changed anything so I was hoping someone else would have another idea. Ive uploaded the swf and flash file to dropbox. What is in the dropbox is not the final product I need to add the videos thats are going to be in it (they pop up once you press the play button) but other then the videos that is as complicated as the file is going to get. This lag started happening from the get go of working on this project once I had the barebones of the menu system figured out. It hasn't gotten any worse since then even after all the things I've added.

Let me know if there is more information you want me to provide. Im really willing to try anything to sort this out.
    Thanks in advance.

    Optimization Techniques
Unfortunately, I know of no completely satisfactory way to organize this information. In what follows, I discuss memory management first with sub-topics listed in alphabetical order. Then I discuss CPU/GPU management with sub-topics listed in alphabetical order.
That may seem logical but there are, at least, two problems with that organization.
I do not believe it is the most helpful way to organize this information.
Memory management affects CPU/GPU usage, so everything in the Memory Management section could also be listed in the CPU/GPU section.
Anyway, I am going to also list the information two other ways, from easiest to hardest to implement and from greatest to least benefit.
Both of those later listings are subjective and are dependent on developer experience and capabilities, as well as, the test situation and test environment. I very much doubt there would be a consensus on ordering of these lists.  Nevertheless, I think they still are worthwhile.
    Easiest to Hardest to Implement
    Do not use Filters.
Always use reverse for-loops and avoid do-loops and avoid while-loops.
Explicitly stop Timers to ready them for gc (garbage collection).
Use weak event listeners and remove listeners.
    Strictly type variables whenever possible.
Explicitly disable mouse interactivity when mouse interactivity not needed.
Replace dispatchEvents with callback functions whenever possible.
Stop Sounds to enable Sounds and SoundChannels to be gc'd.
Use the most basic DisplayObject needed.
Always use cacheAsBitmap and cacheAsBitmapMatrix with air apps (i.e., mobile devices).
    Reuse Objects whenever possible.
Event.ENTER_FRAME loops: Use different listeners and different listener functions applied to as few DisplayObjects as possible.
Pool Objects instead of creating and gc'ing Objects.
    Use partial blitting.
    Use stage blitting.
    Use Stage3D.
    Greatest to Least Benefit
Use stage blitting (if there is enough system memory).
    Use Stage3D.
    Use partial blitting.
Use cacheAsBitmap and cacheAsBitmapMatrix with mobile devices.
Explicitly disable mouse interactivity when mouse interactivity not needed.
    Do not use Filters.

  • Page Transition in SWF File

I have created a document in InDesign CS5.5 that I export as a SWF file and use it in my Flex Mobile project for the playbook.
In the Adobe Flash Builder simulator, the page transition works smoothly and there are no issues. However, this is not the case in the playbook, there is a lot of lagging and its very slow to transition from one page to the next.
Is there any resolution to this issue?
I tried using other page transitions but none of them work in my playbook, not sure why. I am trying to get a simple swipe navigation from one page to the next.. need help please!
    Thanks in advance

There´s no such feature in InDesign....
If you want to make that happen, you need to do some actionscript coding.
Is this what you want (it takes few seconds to start):
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17227987/autopageturn/index.html
If it is, you can download those files as zip-pacakge:
    http://www.edocker.com/support/edocker-freebies/
    1) Extract ZIP,
    2) replace SWFfromID.swf, you may actually export SWF from InDesign directly to that same folder, use that name and overwrite existing file.
    3) Then open index.html to your browser.
    Pageturning delay is 5 seconds.
If you need more control over your SWF, you may want to check http://www.edocker.com. With it you can add features like zooming, printing etc to your SWF files.....

  • Flv odd behavior in swf on web but not authoring

    Hi All,
I've been building a movie that includes linked flvs animations that were created in After Effects. (I need to export as flv because I need that alpha channel so you can 'see thru' the movies to the content below). These linked flvs are located within child movie clips. I fade those movie clips up and down with alpha tweens and then remove them (using removeChild) after they fade down for optimization purposes.
While building this project, I tested it often in authoring mode and everything always works fine: All flvs are open and play as they should. When I remove a child movie clip and then add it back (using the addChildAt) it appears on the correct layer in the composition.
I also posted the movie, in earlier stages, to test it on the web and it worked fine. Now, however, after I added only four more flvs (in movie clips ...using the same method), I see several problems that I never see when I test in authoring mode: On the web, some of those flvs load late. One flv ('wheelchair man') appears in front of another flv that it should be behind. At one point the largest flv animation just vanishes. Here is the movie:
    http://home.comcast.net/~samiri/director/mortals/froggy/froggyPortrait.swf
-You might have to reload the movie to see the intermittent problems.
Again, these problems never show when I'm testing in authoring. (For example, that 'wheelchair man' is on the correct layer: He's behind the wall instead of in front of it.) Also: The late-appearing flv problem happens intermittently on the web.
I am ready to tear the whole thing apart and rebuild it piece by piece, testing each on the web, but I'm hoping someone has an idea what the problem might be before I begin that long process.
    Thanks very much.

Both. The z order is wrong...and the flvs don't load on time. (They eventually do load but after a lag that results in a gap in what is supposed to be a smooth dissolving of one MC into another (I tween down one MC at the same time I tween up of the next one). Again, neither of these problems show when I test in authoring mode, only when viewed in a browser.
Thanks for sticking with me, Rob. Since this seems like a thorny optimization problem, I'm isolating to test: Let’s only look at the "MCs don't load on time" issue. (forget the ‘z order’ problem for now):
    Here’s my stripped down movie:
    http://home.comcast.net/~samiri/director/mortals/froggy/
I only put 2 cue points in soundtrack now:
1st.) at 3500 milliseconds, tween out the 'poster frame' (of face1 + room background)
-This 'poster frame' is the placeholder image of face1 + bkgrn, put on the stage to hide the fact that the flv (with animating version of same content) loads more slowly than the bitmaps on the stage. I dissolve that poster frame down with the first cue point in the soundtrack (supposedly after the first MC has already loaded).
2nd.) at 9500 milliseconds , alpha tween face 1 down and face 2 up.
-Both tweens are supposed to happen at same time.
I’ve tested on 3 computers (vista, Win 8, Win8.1 pro) with 3 cpu/RAM/ghz configs (Celeron/2gb/1.66ghz, corei3/4gb/2.20ghz, corei7/16gb/2.4ghz) and in 3 versions of IE, one ver of Chrome and 2 versions of Firefox:
All show a gap in the ‘alpha tween up/down’ sequence (face1 tweens down and then you see the stage for 1-4 secs, then face2 tweens up). Most also show a sec of missing background (The animating room MC doesn’t tween up as the poster frame is tweened down so you see the white of the stage for 1-3 secs).
I’ve tested by viewing in a browser on my desktop as well as in a browser on the web. Both show the gap between the fade down of face1 and the fade up of face2. Firefox on the desktop seems to do the best (the room background MC doesn’t go missing very often, except the first time the browser accesses the .swf. (However, even Firefox, browsing locally, on my fastest computer shows the face-dissolve gap.)
So, as indicated, I think this is a problem where the movie clips that contain the flvs don’t tween up fast enough and play the flvs. What do you think?
Is there any way to optimize this method so it doesn’t fall apart when viewed through a browser?
    Thanks much

  • Loading an external swf with a loader

I have a .swf that loads different external swf's into
loaders based on what frame it is in. For all but one frame this
works fine. There's no lag, they load quickly and can be interacted
with with no problem. But, for one .swf it gets really choppy. The
swf itself runs fine but once it is loaded into another swf through
the loader the performance really goes down the drain. I guess I am
wondering if anyone has any suggestions or perhaps different
methods I should try. Thanks in advance.

It isn't creating it on the fly.
Insert a new symbol and give it the instance name
placeholder_mc. Drag that onto your timeline and scale it so that
it is the exact same size as your external swf. Then just align the
empty movie clip on the stage where you want to align the external
    swf.
    loadMovie("external.swf",_root.placeholder_mc);
This just tells it "Okay, take this external flash file, and
stick it INTO that empty movieclip"

  • Flash Lag

I have been having a serious lag issue with my site http://www.byfchat.com .  I run a flash chat application.  The server doesn't lag but after users have been logged in for about a hour thier pc's lag bad. Any browser will lag.  What is happening is the browser cpu usage increases to the point it lags the entire pc down.  The users simply have to refresh their browser to clear up the lag for about another hour or so (depending on thier rig).  Does anyone have any suggestions for this?  I do not have a cache dump option in my script.  Does anyone know if flash player can be configed to dump the garbage files that are building up on the users pc?

Uhh i dont think this is the issue.
It's a very basic flash video. It only consists of 2 layers, a blue background layer and text flashing on the top on the other layer
    Like this
Then the text on the top layer flashes to this
So the problem is that when i switch tabs for a minute, then return to the page i get this
for 15 to 20 seconds. Which is strange between it should loop continously and not paused at all. It's as if i need to wait for the start of the movie untill i see the animation. For example .swf is 25 second long, if i switch tabs, i need to wait until the the start of the next 25 seconds to see the animation.

  • Flash Player Projector Lag Issues, but...

    Hello,
I want to playback this online flash game through the projector :http://www.realmofthemadgod.com/
usually I play this game directly in the internet browser (firefox). But now I would like to play it directly through the Projector in the hope the game performance (frames per seconds) would increase, so the gameplay it smoother.
I have searched for the .swf url of the game, it's this one: http://www.realmofthemadgod.com/AGCLoader1322454158.swf
I loaded this url through the Flash Projector, everything works fine. But the problem is, that the flash game is running even slower than through the internet browser. The Flash Projector causes the game to lag, and the frames per second lies around ~30.
Now the strange thing is, while still running the game through the projector, i simultaneously run the game aswell in the internet browser. The strange result: Suddenly the game performance of the game in the Projector increases alot and the fps jump to 60! The game runs very smooth this way. But as soon as I close the Internet Browser, the game performance in the flash projector falls down again and is pretty laggy.
Normally, you would think that running the game in windows would of course slow the game performance down...
Also, I tried another way to run this game directly through the adobe flash player (wihtout internet browser). Therefore, I copyed and paste the .swf of the game above to this site (http://www.swf-to-exe.com/). Running the game through this exe file brings the best results: The game runs very very smooth, like i hoped to be. The problem is, the devleopers updated the game, so somehow it's not possible anymore to convert the .swe to exe through www.swf-to-exe.com.
So this is a strange issue, I dont know if its the fault of the game or the fault of the adobe flash preojector.
I hope someone got an idea to solve this problem, so the lag issues can be removed (without running the game in 2 windows simultaneously).
    Thanks in Advance!

  • Help: embedded video playback lag

I'm trying out flash 8 pro, i have a video that I have

I thought I should add that it hangs at the last frame of the

  • Calling functions of a SWF embedded within an HTML Text Field...

I have a slideshow SWF of size 150px by 150px which changes
image every 5 seconds with the use of a timer, the SWF has a kill()
    function which stops the timer.
In a larger content holding SWF I have a dynamically

    XML feed.
Within the htmlText I am inserting the slideshow SWF using
the <img> tags... It all works great until I proceed to
another page as there is no way to unload the slideshow SWF or call
its kill() function which eventually lags the system as I have
several heavy animations in the pages on ENTER_FRAMES.
Does anyone know how to unload a SWF or gain access to its

    Thanks for replying :)
    I tried that and using txt.getImageReference("idHere") I
casted it to a loader object however it wont let me then get access

I tried creating a sprite and using addChild() tried adding

  • Embedded .swf (page flip) Very Slow

    Hello,
Within my flash file, I embedded a .swf (page flip) that is taking too long to load. When flipping through, it lags. Is there anything that could be done?
    Reference:
    http://www.lucysonlinestore.co.cc/home.html
The .swf (page flip) is under "Clothes".
    Any advice appreciated.

    kglad,
I apologize for the misunderstanding. I don't wish for anyone to go through my files. My intention of posting on here is for anyone with the past experience of slow performing page flips to share their solutions. Since page flip is so popular in flash sites, I thought people would have encoutered such problems. I included my site to show as an example. I do appreciate you taking the time and effort to go through the files and test run them.
The error you're referring to is caused by declaring and using the loader in frame 3. In frame 1, I'm unloading the loader. If I declare the loader in frame 1, then the unloading won't work properly.
I did search online for past posts, while many people encountered page flip performance issues, there is not much solutions out there. I thought better solutions are out now. It's at times like this that I wish I knew more about flash and AS3. Started to learn about a week ago doesn't help solving the errors.
Thank you for looking into this.
