Large Attachment Feeding Problem

Hi,
This is related to feeding large size documents to SES. By large size I mean documents having size of the order of 70 MB to 100 MB.
When I submit a document of such a large size to SES after setting the contents of the document using submitForProcessing(DocumentContainer target) I get an OutOfMemory Error from SES for this particular method call.
Is it a limitation of SES or am I not doing everything right?
Need comments.
Regards,
Shakti

Hi Rishi,
Thanks for your quick and precise reply.
The bigger concern here of the two is large number of readers being submitted to SES.
You are quite right here in stating that while crawling n number of docs, similar objects will be created for all the n docs on SES side. We have done our best to optimize the code for memory scale up.
I have two scenarios for my custom crawler:
1. I was able to successfully crawl 100k docs when number of users (readers) for each doc was very few (to be exact it was only 3).
2. When I performed the crawl with my custom crawler for same number of docs but number of users for each doc raised to 1k (1000) I got an Out of Memory error at the point in the code where I submit the users list to SES using addPrincipal( , , ) method defined for the interface DocumentAcl. The interesting observation was, in this scenario I was able to crawl only 48 docs and then Out of Memory Error.
Code Snippet:
//objDocAcl is an instance of DocumentAcl
//acl_attrib is the format of the principal entry and its value here is samAccountName for //MS Active Directory which is configured as id plugin here
for (int count = 0; count < readersList.length; count++) {
          reader = readersList[count];
          try {
               if (reader != null && acl_attrib != null) {
// This is the line of code where I get OOM Error
                    objDocAcl.addPrincipal(reader, acl_attrib,DocumentAcl.USER);
          } catch (ProcessingException exception) {
                    logger.info(iaSpecificProps.getString("Exception")
+exception.getMessage());
          reader = null;
Need your inputs.

Shakti

  • Message with a large attachment will not copy to SENT folder...what can I do to correct?

    After sending a message with a large attachment, I receive an error message that the message did not copy over into the SENT file. It allows me to retry, which does not correct the problem. Ultimately, I have to 'X" out of the message without knowing for sure if the message was sent.

    Well that really leaves one thing.
    Create an exception in your Anti virus program to exclude the Thunderbird profile folder from on access scanning.
    Locate your profile folder by going to the Thunderbird help menu and opening the troubleshooting entry and clicking on the show folder button. Windows explorer will open in your profile folder.
    There have been issues with slowness and scripts timing out recently caused by scanning, I am sort of hopeful this is another manifestation.
    Basically it takes an Anti virus program some minutes to scan a 1Gb file and I think what is happening is Thunderbird tried to update the file, the AV starts scanning because the file has been opened and after that Thunderbird just gives up.

  • Officejet K550 Pro: Paper Feed Problems

    About a year or two ago, we purchased a K550 unit for our office, and 3 subsequent units for employees' personal use.  At first, everything went great - it was the best inkjet printer I or my staff had ever owned!  After a month of great service, my staff and I recommended this product to customers demanding a printer with low cost of ownership and fast, high-quality printing.  However, after about 3 months of service, all of our units began developing paper feed problems in about the order they were purchased, depending on their usage (the older units first, unless they were used more than other units).
    It started with an occasional failure to pickup a new sheet during a print job, slowly progressed to having to hand-feed the printer to get it started on a job and supervising the printer throughout the job to clear the occasional feeding problems during the job, and erupted into a continuous hand-feeding of every sheet of every job through all of these printers, all the time.  We immediately replaced, at our cost, all of the 15 customer units, 3 employee units and 1 internal unit that were purchased by us or on our recommendation with other HP devices, even after several customers willingly contacted HP and were sent warranty replacement new and refurbished units that also failed.  The only three K550 printers that remain in service with us or our customers (one in our office and two others with customers who requested to keep the units we replaced) fail to pick up any paper out of the main tray an astonishing 93%, 98% and 100% of the time, respectively.  This is not an exaggeration, these are documented numbers rounded down when applicable).
    I've perused many online sites, forums and websites on this topic - both professional and non - and found this to be a common problem with what seems to be a very great number of these units.  Some folks also mention a problem with the K/Y (black/yellow) printhead, but neither I nor any of our customers have experienced this problem.  In solving this feeding problem, we've tried different brands, weights and chemical makeups of paper (HP paper works well, but Staples brand paper of standard weight and 97 bright works best), tried different loading strategies for each paper type (such as fanning the paper before loading and before printing, light, moderate and heavy loads in the standard tray), tried installing a duplexing device (HP OEM of course), tried installing the larger paper tray (also HP OEM) and flashing different firmware supplied by HP - all to no avail.  None of the units have any aftermarket parts, kits, ink cartridges or printheads - everything installed and used in these printers is OEM, except for occasional special papers or label sheets.  So where does this leave us?  More importantly - where does this leave my customers who I prematurely recommended this product to?
    We're looking for a solution from HP.  We've tried customer service and have opened several issues without resolution.  I'm tired of my employees and myself dealing with this issue only to be told how to load paper and to flash the same firmware on the same device for the third, fourth and fifth times.  We have 16 defective units in storage and 3 units in partial service for a total of 19 units.  Accounting for these 19 units:  we lightly use 1; we sold and supported 15 of these within our customer base and 3 to our employees, all of which we replaced with other HP products (again, at our cost), and 2 customers decided to keep 1 defective unit each.  As a result, both myself and my company are out big money because of this issue.  We replaced all of our supported K550's with other HP devices only after unsuccesfully attempting resolution with HP.
    If there are replacement parts that address and resolve this conflict available, where can I obtain them?  If there is a simple remedy, what is it?  What can we do to mitigate this situation and yield a positive outcome?  The K550 is an outstanding printer in terms of speed and print quality, unfortunately its unreliability due to poor feeding performance and need for constant supervision and user intervention doom this model to the component recycler's scrap heap.  Do you have a solution?  Are you experiencing the same problems?  I want to know!

    So, I just typed this nice, long post about my SOLUTION to this problem, and apparently the forum didn't like it and deleted it.  I'll have it up in the next couple days.

  • Mail freezes when updating large RSS feed boxes

    This is something I encountered and how I have formulated a work around. I have discovered that Mail will freeze when updating large RSS feed boxes.
    A little history. After discovery RSS and how they work, I began building a collection of feeds. They included feeds from many major news providers. Over the years, the number articles form some of these sources went into the thousands.
    As my database of articles grew, I encountered more severe and more frequent freezes of the application Mail. I began to take the computer off-line in order to work in these files. But inevitably, a situation would arise that would lead to the Mail application freezing.
    Isolation of the issue with Mail and to the RSS boxes within Mail. The freeze would not occur when RSS feeds boxes where collapsed. Also, the freeze only affected the Mail application. Mac OS was not affected and I was able to alway close Mail from with in the Force Quit menu. Also, the Force Quit menu affirmed that Mail was indeed frozen by listing it as also "not responding."
    Work around. To resolve this issue, I first choose to remove the number of RSS feed that I had subscribed to but used very infrequently. Second, I choose to delete old feeds from "never" to "every two weeks" from within the Mail preference menu (RSS sub-menu).
    I think it took a while for Mail to fully delete messages older than two weeks. In fact, when I began deleting whole feeds, it took some time for those feeds to be removed from my mail box tree. Within the Activity Monitor application, I could see that a lot of disk use was occurring, even though the OS was allowing me to continue to use Mail and other applications.
    To assist this process, I took my computer off-line and stepped away from it. Upon my return, the disk use was down to normal, the number of article in many RSS boxes where greatly reduced, and my disk had recovered over a GB of space. Also, Mail seems to be behaving properly, with smooth and quick performance.
    If you found this article, I hope the information provided has been helpful! After a quick search in to previous posts, an entirely similar post was not found. However, others are finding the Mail application will freeze, but not necessary for the same reason.

    Since I don't want to download any attachments from RSS feeds in Mail.app, is there any way to turn off the attachment download once and for all? I also get the beach ball for minutes when an item has a big attachment, and I fear my HD is cluttered with files I don't use.

  • Can't receive email with large attachment. why?

    A friend sends an email to me with a large attachment. It is rejected and he gets the following response.
    {edited for privacy}:
    206.46.232.11 failed after I sent the message.
    Remote host said: 552 5.3.4 a message size of 20483 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 20480 kilobytes computed for this transaction
    The message is small, but the attachment is large. Is something wrong or am I really limited to receiving relatively tiny attachments?
    My Yahoo email account receives the same email with no problem at all. Can someone tell me what's up?

    First of all, I wouldn't consider 20 MB to be "relatively tiny," but I suppose that's open to interpretation.
    Taken from Verizon's Support site:
    How large of an attachment can I send or receive through email?
    When you are using email, the Verizon web-based email application, you can send attachments that are up to 8 MB (megabytes) in size. Emails sent using 3rd party email programs like Outlook, Lotus Notes, or Eudora, however; can contain attachments up to 20 MB....

  • Mail 7.1 large attachment icon in classic layout attachment column

    I was running on Mountain Lion till 2 days ago. Over the weekend, I decided to upgrade to Mavericks, which went really smooth. However, after upgrading to Mavericks, when I open Mail.app, I am seeing large attachment icon in the attachment column. My Mail.app is configured for classic layout. When I change to modern view, I don't see any problem, but I don't like working on modern view.
    I have taken some snapshots and posted below. As you can see, the attachment icon size actually varies from folder to folder, which is even more odd.
    Anyone seeing the similar issue? Any idea how can I fix it?
    Thanks!

    in summary, here is how to fix it:
    Go to Mail --> Preferences --> Fonts & Colors --> Message list font and changed it to any other font, and back to what you'd want it to be. Now notice your paperclip icon is back to normal.

  • Imap don't see mails with large attachment

    Hello,
    my email is set to imap so I get the emails on my iphone and on my mac and all should be synchron but there is following problem:
    Emails with large attachment are not shown on my imac. I got the Email on my iphone. The mail is on the server when I look over web, but the mail is not on the mailprogram shown on the imac. On the parallel outlook it is shown. So I think there is somewhere a setting where large attachment will not be downloaded but then the header should be shown but it isn't.
    What could be the reason for the missing download of large attachment in a email in a imap account on mail in mavericks
    Thank you and best regards....and sorry for my broken english

    Perhaps to be on the safe side, run a GWCheck against your user account.
    Use either the standalone version of GWCheck or run the same check from ConsoleOne with following options (described here for a standalone version):
    1. Database type -> Post Office
    2. Database Path -> use a browse button to navigate in a location where is a wphost.db, the Post Office database
    3. Post Office Name -> fill in a Post Office name.
    4. Object type -> select User/Resource and type either a MailboxID or directly a user database file name.
    5. Action -> leave default Analyze/Fix Databases.
    6. Activate (only) Contents and Fix problems check boxes.
    7. Database tab -> activate only the User option
    8. Misc tab -> here type a string resfldr (or use alias string folderreset)
    9. Run.
    Let us know how it goes.

  • How to delete os mail MSG with a large attachment that comp cannot open?

    How can I delete a msg in Mac os  mail that has a very large attachment that the comp cannot open or delete?

    Thanks for responding to our problem. This is one of the "lamp shade" comp, a 700 MHz we got in 2002. It was never updated and has been used basically for email.  We have one iMac running Leopard and another running Snow Leopard. They had no problem with the 15 mb msg, as well as the iPad.  The 700 chokes up when it comes to the 15 mb msg and then will shut down. When we open Mail again it will go through an indexing routine until it comes to the 15 mg msg and shortly afterwards it will quit.  Before it does quit we try to delete other msgs but they reappear  in the inbox when Mail is started  up again.  Our ISP is Windstream.net.  I will set up a webmail account and try your idea of using webmail to view and delete the msg. Thanks for your ideas.

  • Mail crashes when trying to open mail with large attachment

    It used to work fine (years), but for past 6 months, if I try to open an email (with the blue ball to the left) that has a large attachment (any sort), it crashes, no error message. On restarting, mail that had been deleted is back, and the most recent sent message shows up on top as if it hasn't been sent. A lot of emails in my numerous in boxes, but have deleted a lot, to no avail. PS- If I am trying to clean up and delete stuff I know is small, if I quit mail, it is deleted - it doesn't reappear as it does if I accidentally click on a message (with the blue ball to the left) that is BIG. Thanks... in hopeful anticipation of aid.

    If you think getting your web pages to appear OK in all the major browsers is tricky then dealing with email clients is way worse. There are so many of them.
    If you want to bulk email yourself, there are apps for it and their templates will work in most cases...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Email-Marketing/EBlast.html
    This one will create the form, database and send out the emails...

    The alternative is to use a marketing service if your business can justify the cost. Their templates are tested in all the common email clients...

  • HP PSC 1515 paper-feed problem

    Hi
    Our HP PSC 1315 has a paper-feed problem, but this does not appear to be a dirty roller: while I can hear motors whirring when the printer wants to feed in the paper, none of the visible rollers turn ― including the single pick-up roller ― and the "check paper" light remains on.
    Any suggestions? Can you help?
    Thank you
    Michael

    Hi,
    You could try a printer reset.  See the following link:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01577374&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
    This may help.  However, if the rollers still persist in not moving there may be some mechanical issue with internal gears not engaging.  This would probably necessitate some physical repair so you woul dprobably have to contact HP to find out if there is somewhere that does printer repairs near where you live. See this link:
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/contact.html
    I hope that this helps.

  • A possible fix for the email "large attachment cra...

    08, v1507, FP2, UK product code (hacked from original amazon.co.uk Malaysian product code).
    I've just started Nokia Suite to see if anything new comes up.
    No sign of 1508 but one "really interesting" fix for the email app, specifically mentioning the "large attachment" bug. It isn't easy to reproduce because it doesn't happen all the time, even with the 10MB pics from Camera Pro on max jpeg quality settings, but it is good that Nokia (Accenture actually) are still out there reading the forums and fixing stuff...
    No news of any HSPA fixes.
    The attachment fix seems to work but they have now imposed a hard limit on email size of 15.36MB, which is way below what the previous email app was capable of sending sometimes - I have tested up to 50MB on the 700 and the 808.

    Well... they haven't completely fixed it. This morning, doing some tests (of something else) which involved emailing 2-4 images as attachments (total size under 10MB) the email app crashed a few times. As before, the crash results in the email being dropped into the Drafts folder.

  • Officejet Pro 8500 Feeding problems & Stuck in device check mode.

    Ever since my brother decided to unplug my Officetjet Pro 8500 A909a and move it to the other side of the room so he could play on his laptop at my computer desk, my printer has been feeding paper wrong and then displaying a message that says it has the wrong size of paper.  I have NEVER put any different size of paper other than the standard 8X11 letter paper.
    When I hit the print button, the printer feeds the paper through crooked and ends up crinkling it partly.  It also marrs one of the edges of the paper.  The error message displays just before the printer spits the paper back out.
    I've tried doing different things.  I went to the support section and tried doing the steps listed for a feeding problem.  But none of them worked.  I've tried checking out the topic about paper errors from Microsoft Word.  But even if I try to make a copy via the scanner or the document feeder atop the printer, it still gives me the same error.
    Also, when I start my printer up, it goes into the mode where it checks the device and says it may take several minutes.  As I am sitting here writing this, its been in that mode for nearly half an hour now.  It does this every time it goes into that mode now and I find myself interrupting it to get it to stop.  I haven't been to look this problem up yet.  But if anyone has any advice for this problem as well, that would be awesome sauce.
    Any good help given will be met with a plate of virtual cookies.  Thanks!

    I recently was expirencing this same problem, I was able to correct it by  making sure the copy tray on the bak was properly locked in place. After reseating this all prints came out as perfect as before witout any jams. Hope this helps you out.

  • Paper feed problem

    At work we just recently bought an officejet 6500A plus all in one printer,scan,fax; it was doing just fine then today an employee called me in about feeder problems; the problem is that when taking paper from the tray to print a page or document, it will take the paper and then shoot it out tearing the side of the paper and sometimes causing a jam to happen; the screen will display wrong paper size for setting. I have gone through all the setting options and made them to the 8.5 x 11 size; which is our paper size and the paper we have always used with it, after changing the settings to the paper size and type (inkjet) it still will take the paper, chew it up and say it is the wrong size, what should i do ? i have done all i can think of;even cleaning the pulling wheels, please help, i don't want to spend another $320 on another printer when i just bought this one less than two months ago and it is supposed to be top of the line, please help

    Hi,
    You might try the steps listed in this document Paper Jam one thing to make sure is the slider guides for the paper are properly set.
    If after trying the steps and you're still seeing issues, go ahead and call HP tech support at 1-800-HPINVENT.  Your product has a 1 year warranty, and you've indicated that your product is 2 months old.

  • Why Mail in Mountain Lion stops responding when downloading a larger attachment?

    Prior to Mountain Lion, if you clicked on an email in the inbox that has a large attachment such as a video file, it was starting to download but you could then click on other emails and return to that download later. In Mountain lion, the turning wheel appears on the entire Mail app and you just have to wait until download is done before doing anything with Mail unless u force quit. Is there an upgrade or fix for this?

    First, if you want to clean your Mac, cleanse it of "CleanMyMac."
    Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
