Large HASH_SIZE with DBMS_UTILITY.GET_HASH_VALUE and performance

I need to set the hash_size to quite a large value (16777216) in order to ensure uniqueness for the sets of values I ma hashing.
The examples all use much smaller values (128K).
It seems unlikely to me, but do large values for hash_size affect performance, perhaps in the amount memory used in the PGA for the hashing fucntions.

Hi Nijmegen
I think your problem is not related to OWB, but anyway.
If you don't change data type to char, GET_HASH_VALUE function will automatically change this data type to char in your case datetime will be changed to something like '2007.12.16' (try simple function to_char). So both values are equal '16-12-2007 13:43:55' = '2007.12.16' and '16-12-2007 16:43:55' = '2007.12.16' and you will get the same hash value. Better use POWER(2,30).
example
SELECT
DBMS_UTILITY.GET_HASH_VALUE (
TO_CHAR(TO_DATE('16-12-2007 13:43:55','dd-mm-yyyy hh24:mi:ss')),
0,
POWER(2,30)) AS x1,
DBMS_UTILITY.GET_HASH_VALUE (
TO_CHAR(TO_DATE('16-12-2007 16:43:55','dd-mm-yyyy hh24:mi:ss')),
0,
POWER(2,30)) AS x2,
DBMS_UTILITY.GET_HASH_VALUE (
'16-12-2007 13:43:55',
0,
POWER(2,30)) AS x1,
DBMS_UTILITY.GET_HASH_VALUE (
'16-12-2007 16:43:55',
0,
POWER(2,30)) AS x2,
TO_CHAR(TO_DATE('16-12-2007 13:43:55','dd-mm-yyyy hh24:mi:ss'))

What is the best software for burning a large slideshow with 500 photos and music to DVD?

Are you talking about strictly burning an already put-together slideshow or composing one and then burning it?
My all time favorite slide show maker is Photo to Movie; you can then burn it from there or get it into iMovie and/or iDVD for the "finishing" touch. My favorite burn software is Toast, although you can use iMovie, iDVD, and Finder as well.

  • Problem w. hash-value calculation for CLOB with DBMS_UTILITY.GET_HASH_VALUE

    Hello Oracle-Experts,
I had to calculate hash-values for a corrorponding CLOB-field (see my post 'Buffer to small ORA-22835 error after migration from 9i to 10g' in forum 'database general').
    I calculate the hash-values with the DBMS_UTILITY.GET_HASH_VALUE, e.g:
         SQL> SELECT DBMS_UTILITY.GET_HASH_VALUE(LPAD('X',3998,'X'),1,POWER(2,30)) FROM dual;
         DBMS_UTILITY.GET_HASH_VALUE(LPAD('X',3998,'X'),1,POWER(2,30))
         1053896858
Because the calculation failed with 10g I had taken a closer look at this function and realised the following results:
    VALUE                                             DBMS_UTILITY.GET_HASH_VALUE(VALUE,1,POWER(2,30))
    LPAD('X',3997,'X') 557754150
    LPAD('X',3998,'X')      1053896858
    LPAD('X',3999,'X')          888036750
    LPAD('X',4000,'X') 162062978
    LPAD('X',4001,'X')          162062978
    LPAD('X',4002,'X') 162062978
    LPAD('X',10000,'X') 162062978
It seems to me that I can't use this function for clob-values with a length greater than 4000 characters because of collisions. Maybe someone with experience
can give me a hint to handle this problem. Worst case i had to write my own CLOB_2_HASH function.
    TIA + Best regards
    Matthias

Yeah, the 4000-byte limit would be a factor in working CLOBs. I if you only had 4000 bytes you would not need a CLOB in the first place.
If you don't find something better then writing your own function might be the thing to do.

  • Large text with national caracters and full text index

    Hello,
I have some large portion of string to index. So of these strings contains national characters so I have stored it into a NCLOB column. I would like to put a full text index of this column but I see that it is not possible for NCLOB column.
Does anybody have the problem as me? If yes, how did you proceed? Could the XMLType be a solution ?
    Thanks for your help.
    Kind regards,
    Fred

    Hi Fred,
"I do not think that I can manage all these characters with only one character set."
Sure you can. The main reason for using the NLS characterset has nothing to do with whether you can/cannot support multiple languages with your database charset. It is there primarily in case your db characterset is not some unicode/multibyte charset and you need to add support for it while maintaining your original db charset. A secondary reason is for certain performance considerations, but that is for specific application architectures and doesn't seem to be the case here. One of my apps supports virtually every language on Earth - not using the 'N''s'. I'm using AL32UTF8 - it is up to Unicode 4.0 in version 10gR2 of the db.
Choose a unicode character set for your db and you're fine unless you have some overwhelming reason why you are unable to do so. Any Text index will work for you and your problem is solved (and ctxxpath and context index will both work - just compare your requirements to the functionality provided by the index type).

  • Import and process larger data with SQL*Loader and Java resource

    Hello,
I have a project to import data from a text file in a schedule. A lager data, with nearly 20,000 record/1 hours.
After that, we have to analysis the data, and export the results into a another database.
I research about SQL*Loader and Java resource to do these task. But I have no experiment about that.
I'm afraid of the huge data, Oracle could be slowdown or the session in Java Resource application could be timeout.
Please tell me some advice about the solution.
    Thank you very much.

  • Viewing a folder as large icons with only up and down scrolling?

This is something that's been bothering me for a while and I just can't seem to find the answer.
If I open a folder, switch the view to "as Icons," and then make those icons larger, I'm forced to scroll through those icons by moving left/right and up/down.  If there are a lot of files in this folder, it's quite a pain to do all that scrolling.  Anyway I can change the view settings so I only have to scroll up and down?

Sort the Icons so that they fit the side to side dimension, any sort will work, by name is the obvious way.

  • Problems with dropped calls and no reception on Samsung Continuum

My mother and I both purchased a Samsung Continuum in late March 2011, and have experienced the same problems with the phone.  The device drops at least 2-3 calls per day, often on the same conversation; we have not found that location or time of day makes a difference.  The phone freezes up frequently, even if no apps are running in the background.  We lose our 3G network reception frequently, and cannot access our texts, emails, or the internet.  The screen saver kicks in even when we are actively dialing a number, or typing in a text message.  The overall performance of the phone is also poor, and it is quite slow much of the time.
We have raised this issue several times with a representative at one of the Verizon stores, but he states that he can find no problem with the phone, and that these issues may not be covered under our insurance plan.  None of my friends with non-Samsung phones are having the same problems with phone reception and performance.  I am aggravated enough with these issues that I am considering reactivating my old Blackberry, which worked like a charm.
I am not upset that my phone has not been updated to Android 2.2.  I just want the phone to perform as stated, and not fail at its primary function:  making and receiving phone calls.  I am not certain if these problems originate with the phone, Verizon, or Samsung, nor do I care.  I just want to resolve these issues as soon as possible, or I will have to look at other alternatives.
    Thank you.

If this doesn't work...now what??? I have a useless $400 plus piece of unreliable junk. My Motorola Razor was ions more reliable than this phone...very, very sad but true.
What carrier were you using with the Razor? AT&T? Same area?

  • I need to sort very large Excel files and perform other operations.  How much faster would this be on a MacPro rather than my MacBook Pro i7, 2.6, 15R?

I am a scientist and run my own business.  Money is tight.  I have some very large Excel files (~200MB) that I need to sort and perform logic operations on.  I currently use a MacBookPro (i7 core, 2.6GHz, 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3) and I am thinking about buying a multicore MacPro.  Some of the operations take half an hour to perform.  How much faster should I expect these operations to happen on a new MacPro?  Is there a significant speed advantage in the 6 core vs 4 core?  Practically speaking, what are the features I should look at and what is the speed bump I should expect if I go to 32GB or 64GB?  Related to this I am using a 32 bit version of Excel.  Is there a 64 bit spreadsheet that I can us on a Mac that has no limit on column and row size?

    Grant Bennet-Alder,
It’s funny you mentioned using Activity Monitor.  I use it all the time to watch when a computation cycle is finished so I can avoid a crash.  I keep it up in the corner of my screen while I respond to email or work on a grant.  Typically the %CPU will hang at ~100% (sometimes even saying the application is not responding in red) but will almost always complete the cycle if I let it go for 30 minutes or so.  As long as I leave Excel alone while it is working it will not crash.  I had not thought of using the Activity Monitor as you suggested. Also I did not realize using a 32 bit application limited me to 4GB of memory for each application.  That is clearly a problem for this kind of work.  Is there any work around for this?   It seems like a 64-bit spreadsheet would help.  I would love to use the new 64 bit Numbers but the current version limits the number of rows and columns.  I tried it out on my MacBook Pro but my files don’t fit.
    The hatter,
This may be the solution for me. I’m OK with assembling the unit you described (I’ve even etched my own boards) but feel very bad about needing to step away from Apple products.  When I started computing this was the sort of thing computers were designed to do.  Is there any native 64-bit spreadsheet that allows unlimited rows/columns, which will run on an Apple?  Excel is only 64-bit on their machines.
Many thanks to both of you for your quick and on point answers!

  • Performance: How to manage large reports with high data volume

    Hi everybody,
we actually make some tests on our BO server system, to define limitations and oppertunities. Among other things we constructed a large report with a high data volume (about 250.000 data records).
When executing the query in SAP Query Designer it takes about 10 minutes to display it. In Crystal Reports we rebult the row and column structure of the query. The data retrieval in Crystal Reports Designer last about 9 minutes - even faster as in the query.
Unfortunately in BO InfoView the report is not displayed. After 30 minutes of loading time we get a timeout error RCIRAS0244.
    com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.managedreports.ras.internal.ManagedRASException:
    Cannot open report document. ---
The request timed out because there has been no reply from the server for 600.000 milliseconds.
Also a refresh of an report with saved data is not possible.
Now we are asking us some questions:
    1. Where can we set the timeout for InfoView to a value larger than 30 minutes?
    2. Why is InfoView so slow compared to Crystal Designer? Where is the bottleneck?
    3. Whats the impact of SAP single sign-on compared to Enterprise logon on the performance?
Thanks for any helps and comments!
    Sebastian

    Hi Ingo,
    thank you for your reply.
I will check the servers and maybe change the time limits.
Unfortunately we have a quite slow server system that probably cause this timeout. In CR Designer we have no problems, its really quick. Is it to expect that CR Designer and InfoView have almost the same performance?
Another nice point: When we execute the query in SAP BEx Query Designer it takes about 10 minutes to open it, in Crystal Designer it needs just about 5-6 minutes. We integrated exactly the same fields in the report, which exist in die SAP BEx query.
    What may cause the difference?
    - Exceptions and conditions in the query?
    - Free characteristics in the query?
    - anything else?
    Best regards,
    Sebastian

  • ACS issues in large scale network with Prime Infra and WAAS express

    Hi,
I wonder if there is a common practice or a recommended way for deploying large scale network where there are Prime Infrastructure (PI) and WAAS Central manager keep logging into routers (scale of 1000 or more) to collect statistics. The way PI and WAAS CM collect stats from the routers (besides using SNMP) is that they log in (authenticate) themselves with there usernames and password and issue multiple show and config commands on the routers. Imagin this routine happens every 5 - 10 minutes with all 1000+ routers at the same time and the impact to the ACS server in terms of authentication requests and AAA logs. Appreciate if somebody could recommend a solution where these elements can work together in a large scale network.
    Thanks,

The AEBS is connected to the TC via an ethernet run from the basement to the main floor... its not connected wirelessly.
The "extend" feature is intended for wireless, not wired connections. Since you have the base stations connected by Ethernet, the downstream router just need to be reconfigured as a bridge. The bridged router would then perform as a combination Wireless Access Point and Ethernet switch. Neither base station should be configured for "extending."
Basically, you will want both to be configured for a "roaming" network.
o Setup the base station connected to the Internet to "Share a public IP address."
Internet > Internet Connection > Connection Sharing: Share a public IP address
o Setup the remaining base station(s), as a bridge.
Internet > Internet Connection > Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)
For each base station in the roaming network:
o Connect to the same subnet of the Ethernet network
o Provide a unique Base Station Name
o The Network Name should be identical
o If using security, use the same encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc.) and password.
o Make sure that the channel is set at least three channels apart from the next base station.
while the TC is running at 2.4ghz since my MBP is connected at speeds around 240 to the AEBS at the same time that my ipod is connected to the TC at speeds of only 54 max.
The iPod is a 802.11b/g wireless device. It cannot connect at greater than the maximum bandwidth for that mode ... which is 54 Mbps, regardless of the bandwidth available.

  • Performance problems with EP 6 and MS IE

    Hi everybody,
since a couple of days, we are facing a sever performance problem with our SAP EP 6.0. When I access the system with MS Internet Explorer 6.0, it takes 5-10 minutes after the Login. With Firefox Browser, the performance is ok. Therefore I assume that it must be a problem with the IE settings. Does anybody know a solution?
    Best regards,
       Michael

There are a few things that this could be.  I've seen the setting "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" cause a lot of performance problems (This is in the advanced settings in your IE).
This will cause your cache to be cleared out each time the browser is closed and cause a lot more data to be downloaded each time you login to the system.
For more analysis I'd recommend putting a tool like HTTPWatch into your IE browser and seeing which requests are using the most time.

  • Performance problems with DFSN, ABE and SMB

    Hello,
We have identified a problem with DFS-Namespace (DFSN), Access Based Enumeration (ABE) and SMB File Service.
Currently we have two Windows Server 2008 R2 servers providing the domain-based DFSN in functional level Windows Server 2008 R2 with activated ABE.
The DFSN servers have the most current hotfixes for DFSN and SMB installed, according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968429/en-us and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2473205/en-us
We have only one AD-site and don't use DFS-Replication.
Servers have 2 Intel X5550 4 Core CPUs and 32 GB Ram.
    Network is a LAN.
    Our DFSN looks like this:
    \\contoso.com\home
        Contains 10.000 Links
Drive mapping on clients to subfolder \\contoso.com\home\username
    \\contoso.com\group
        Contains 2500 Links
Drive mapping on clients directly to \\contoso.com\group
On \\contoso.com\group we serve different folders for teams, projects and other groups with different access permissions based on AD groups.
We have to use ABE, so that users see only accessible Links (folders)
We encounter sometimes multiple times a day enterprise-wide performance problems for 30 seconds when accessing our Namespaces.
After six weeks of researching and analyzing we were able to identify the exact problem.
Administrators create a new DFS-Link in our Namespace \\contoso.com\group with correct permissions using the following command line:
    dfsutil.exe link \\contoso.com\group\project123 \\fileserver1\share\project123
dfsutil.exe property sd grant \\contoso.com\group\project123 CONTOSO\group-project123:RX protect replace
This is done a few times a day.
There is no possibility to create the folder and set the permissions in one step.
DFSN process on our DFSN-servers create the new link and the corresponding folder in C:\DFSRoots.
At this time, we have for example 2000+ clients having an active session to the root of the namespace \\contoso.com\group.
Active session means a Windows Explorer opened to the mapped drive or to any subfolder.
The file server process (Lanmanserver) sends a change notification (SMB-Protocol) to each client with an active session \\contoso.com\group.
All the clients which were getting the notification now start to refresh the folder listing of \\contoso.com\group
This was identified by an network trace on our DFSN-servers and different clients.
Due to ABE the servers have to compute the folder listing for each request.
DFS-Service on the servers doen't respond for propably 30 seconds to any additional requests. CPU usage increases significantly over this period and went back to normal afterwards. On our hardware from about 5% to 50%.
Users can't access all DFS-Namespaces during this time and applications using data from DFS-Namespace stop responding.
Side effect: Windows reports on clients a slow-link detection for \\contoso.com\home, which can be offline available for users (described here for WAN-connections: http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2011/12/14/slow-link-with-windows-7-and-dfs-namespaces.aspx)
Problem doesn't occure when creating a link in \\contoso.com\home, because users have only a mapping to subfolders.
Currently, the problem doesn't occure also for \\contoso.com\app, because users usually don't use Windows Explorer accessing this mapping.
Disabling ABE reduces the DFSN freeze time, but doesn't solve the problem.
Problem also occurs with Windows Server 2012 R2 as DFSN-server.
There is a registry key available for clients to avoid the reponse to the change notification (NoRemoteChangeNotify, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812669/en-us)
This might fix the problem with DFSN, but results in other problems for the users. For example, they have to press F5 for refreshing every remote directory on change.
Is there a possibility to disable the SMB change notification on server side ?
    TIA and regards,
    Ralf Gaudes

  • Why each time I try to save my day's work, version WITH mark-ups and version w/o, does it say "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to access this? What is clipboard and how can I just save my work in its proper file?

I don't get this clipboard thing! I have created two files, one for the MS with mark-ups, and one for the unmarred version, each living in their own spot in my "house." It seems to be merging the two versions and I have to go in and re-paste and then it always says "you have placed a large amount of text on clipboard do you want to be able to access this?" and it prompts me to say no but I am afraid I'll lose my day's work so I just tap cancel. I highlight the day's revision and select "copy" to paste into the unmarked doc. before I save on the marked up or working doc. It is when I try to close that one that the clipboard issue pops up. What can you tell be about saving doc. in two places and how to NOT get it on clipboard? Thanks! I am not super computer savvy so layperson's language much appreciated!

Are you using Microsoft word?  Microsoft thinks the users are idiots. They put up a lot of pointless messages that annoy & worry users.  I have seen this message from Microsoft word.  It's annoying.
    As BDaqua points out...
When you copy information via edit > copy,  command + c, edit > cut, or command +x, you place the information on the clipboard. When you paste information, edit > paste or command + v, you copy information from the clipboard to your data file.
If you edit > cut or command + x and you do not paste the information and you quite Word, you could be loosing information.  Microsoft is very worried about this. When you quite Word, Microsoft checks if there is information on the clipboard & if so, Microsoft puts out this message.
You should be saving your work more than once a day. I'd save every 5 minutes.  command + s does a save.
