Last update breaks pacman

Hi all, I am relatively new to arch linux and this is my first problem with pacman.
Updating to version 3.5.0-1 seems to break pacman for me
$ pacman -Syy
pacman: error while loading shared libraries: liblzma.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I followed the instructions in the sticky post for repairing a broken pacman. I retrieved the 3.4 package from my cache, untarred and used the binary to try to reinstall libarchive, however I now see this error:
$ ./pacman -Sf libarchive
./pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libalpm.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have libalpm.so.6
I now see why that post was stickied.

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum :-)
The "what doesn't seem right" would be the 500+ MB download and 2GB install
Compression
As for how I got here... I forget now, but I think it was something like
- pacman -Syy
- pacman -Su
- pacman-db-upgrade
Not necessarily in that order.
The first pacman -Su probably asked if you want to install pacman first before all the rest, didn't it?

since the last update to iTunes 11.0.3 (42) the airplay connection is not working properly , keeping breaking up, while the airplay works fine with my iPad and iPhone. Anyone has experienced the same? any fix available?

    Hi Erdelestre,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities!
See this article for some tips about troubleshooting AirPlay:
    Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4215
Troubleshooting performance issues with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring
If you are experiencing intermittent playback or significant network lag with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring, it could be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, interference, or the distance between the Wi-Fi router and your iOS device, Apple TV or AirPort Express. Try the following suggestions:
Ensure that other devices are not trying to stream to the same Apple TV at the same time.
Turn off Bluetooth on your iOS device by tapping Settings > General > Bluetooth.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings for the best performance.
Certain external devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may interfere with a Wi-Fi network. Try moving or disabling these devices.
If possible, try to locate your Wi-Fi router in the same room as your Apple TV and iPhone/iPad.
If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
If the Wi-Fi router has an external antenna, check to see that is it connected properly and in good condition.
Use the Wi-Fi network troubleshooting guide to resolve interference and other issues.
    Best,
    Jeremy

  • IPod won't play in my 2009 Acura TSX since last update

I have the 120GB ipod with about 2900 songs in it. Since downloading the last update I can no longer play the songs in the car. I get "unsupported version" or "no bluetooth audio". Anyone know a cure for this. I don't want to be limited to mp3's.

I do not know what Kneil31 is saying. When you restore via iTunes the iOS firmware on the iPod gets erased and reinstalled.
    To resolve the error see:
    See:
iOS: Restore error 3194 or 'This device isn't eligible for the requested build'
How to Fix iTunes Error 3194?
Fix Error 3194 from iTunes during iPhone restore
Have you went to Sony's support site? Sometimes an iOS update will break compatibility. In that case you have to wait for either an update to the firmware on the dock or an update to the firmware on the iPod. I doubt there will b e anymore update for a 4G iPod

  • Mac OSX 10.4.8 Update Breaks Raid Striping -- System will no longer boot

    Hi,
I'm a newbie from the PC world with a Mac Pro. For the last 8 hours I've been trying to get a Raid-0 configuration to work with no success.
The Raid array constructs ok and the system boots. Once that's done the Software Update screen arrives and I would select install all... then the machine would not boot. I get a Grey Shade like affect and the message to power off and restart. Powering off does nothing.
So I started again for the Nth time and added each Software Update individually. All loaded and rebooted successfully until the 10.4.8 Update.
As soon as that loads, installs and restarts the machine will not boot.
I called Apple's Tech Support and they told me they do NOT support RAID on this machine. I said what are you talking about. They put me on hold talked to a supervisor and came back with the same story. I just don't get it...
So anyone have any insight and advice on why the update breaks my Raid-0? What can I do to get over the problem (I'd like to have the RAID...)?
    Thanks for the assistance.
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, you needed an emergency boot drive anyway to repair your RAID boot drive. Just use the same one in addition to a working clone or backup of your regular system.
Apple made it easy to install or update security updates and system updates from an alternate drive (but you will have to use the stand-alone (combo preferably) updaters instead - which many use already as normal part of upgrades for years now (they seem more useful and reliable).
My preference is a dedicated boot drive with OS and apps and minimal home directory - no media files - and fast, like 10K Raptor. I use RAID for my home directory so it isn't on the boot drive for years to improve performance and keep the OS separate. Never a problem and nice mix.

  • Eclipse started hanging after last update

Hi, folks, a couple days ago I updated and today I tried to use eclipse but it is hardly usable since it hang every minute or less for about 15 secs. The cpu usage goes about 80%, nothing else hangs, the system is still usable. Do u have any idea what package might have done this? Before this update I last updated about 2 months ago I know this is way too much time without update, but I had to be sure my system is working cause I was working on a project, and couldn't afford downtimes. I am working on php project now, not using it for java if this is in some way relevant info. Eclipse is not installed through pacman, just downloaded. I am also using a -ck kernel if this is relevant also. Thanks.

Have you tried using the version from the repos?
If it needs to be compiled with php support, there's likely a version in the AUR.

I am using Mac OSX 10.6.8 with BBLink 1.1.1.35 and it workt pretty fine so far. After i had installed the update and connected the passport to the Mac comes the message "... no drivers found ..." to the screen. It wants me to install BBBlend.
After a reset to the original OS-Version it is still not possible to connect the passport with BBLink. The access to the SD-Card ist still working.
Does anyone have an idea whats going on?
    Sascha

Well so much for Backward Compatibility on BlackBerry and Apples part, they think we are all loaded with $$$ and can afford to buy a new computer every 4 years.
That is why more people are not buying new phones or taking the updates because the updates break the compatibility.
Looks like the only solution for you may be to buy a new computer, ⏏⏏⏏   I wonder if you had a iPhone if you would have the same issue, ⌘⌘⌘
I wish I could have helped you more, I have a over expensive, crapple Apple, Mac Book Pro, Mavericks 10.9.5 with performance issues, I am not very happy also.

  • Last update crippled my macbookpro display

Now most movies I run shows white rectangular artifacts.
Also scrolling through long rich web pages breaks the display. The content is clipped. Text on the page is split in half. It seems it can't keep up with the scrolling and never tries to fix it.
I also think the videos suffer from the same 'performance' issue.
I remember something about the last update containing a video update, but am not sure it was for nvidia based pros (like mine) or the ATI ones.....
Anyway, I think that update caused my probs.

The only practical alternative is to have the MBP shipped to the nearest Apple repair facility.  I suspect that will prove to be very expensive.
You may investigate if there are any competent local Apple repair technicians.
    Ciao.

  • [solved] Sounds failed since last update.

My system was fine on Friday, sounds playing normally.
I used the machine briefly over the weekend and as normal kept things updated with pacman -Syu. I am aware that plenty was downloaded and I think that I noticed a kernel rebuild.
Today I have no sound. The rest of the system is functioning normally, but movies play silently and sound files do not play at all.
I have looked through dmesg and tried 'dmesg | grep -i alsa' and 'dmesg | grep -i oss' with nothing to report. Wondering if it was some volume problem I tried aumix and it gave the error:
    [me@two ~]$ aumix
aumix: error opening mixer: No such file or directory
    [me@two ~]$
    So:
    - Is there anything else that I should try?
    - Is there some final stage to the weekend's updates that I stupidly overlooked?
    - Has anyone else experienced similar?
I suppose that it it possible that this is a random occurrence and that the update is a complete coincidence. Is there any way to tell?
    Thanks in advance,
    Richard.

  • Last update of Adobe Flash Player for Safari

Adobe flash player last update downloaded and installed but still it doesn't work with Safari. Pls advice as I don't see Adobe in the list of my programms. I followed this instruction http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5655 and it was successfully installed

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 5.
    1. If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, sign in to your YouTube account and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    2. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    3. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    4. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    5. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    6. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    7. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • OpenOffice looks since last update very ugly

Hello, since last update OpenOffice 2.03 looks very very ugly but see it self.
    http://img386.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ooen4.jpg
    Whats wrong?
If i change to Font Antialiasing in OpenOffice its a little bit better but then looks the Text like Blod.
    http://img352.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oo1jv4.jpg
Someone know what happend? And how i can fix it?
    Thank you very much.
    Some Infos
    Name : kdebase
    Version : 3.5.5-3
    Groups : kde
    Name : gtk2
    Version : 2.10.6-1
    Groups : None

It is a upstream problem in openoffice.org, it doesn't obey your anti-aliasing or hinting options under freetype 2.2
This will be fixed in openoffice.org 2.1
I have tried to backport a fedora fix for this, and I tried it with my OpenOffice 2.0.4rc3 build from aur but it didn't build. Even if it did build it would probably break some other stuff.
I guess we have to wait for a better patch of openoffice 2.1
In any case, it is definitely not a problem with your installation.

  • Since last update renting movies on Apple TV painfully slow

We have been using Apple TV (2nd Gen) for 3 years, and since the last update, instead of nearly instantly starting movie rentals, it take 6-8 hours.
    NOTHING ELSE HAS CHANGED !!!!!
    Internet speed- Same
    WIFI - Same
    Only the update has changed.

I often wonder if Apple actually tests anything outside the office.  The last update killed Apple TV --- all I get is loading ...loading ....loading when trying to access iTunes Store to rent movies.  Thankfully same movies are for rent on cable so I spent my money there.  Well done Apple-- way to break what was working fine.  I miss Steve Jobs.  I'll check back in  a few months to see if Apple TV is fixed.

  • Update breaks gnucash

Hi i updated with pacman -Syu and gnucash stopped working right after.
    vladuz@box:~$ gnucash
gnucash-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libguile.so.12: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    vladuz@box:~$
I noticed that dbus was upgraded to a newer version. I've tried downgrading to the older version of dbus but that doesn't help. Can anyone please help me. Running gnucash is really important and I think a simple upgrade shouldn't breake it. Pacman didn't output any warnings or anything.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

  • What are the things 10.6.8 update break?

After the 10.6.8 update I am having so many issues,
first, the %100 cpu usage of dock, disabled parallels, and now it is ok,
then, a reboot and I am unable to login, I enter my password, it begins the login process, then logs me out,
if I persist, it logs me in after a couple of tries, but each time a few of my applications are missing at random, and the environment is very very unstable, sometimes I see no desktop background, sometimes I start firefox and I am logged out again.
I've seen some people suggesting removal of login items to resolve a similar but not the same issue, so I'm inclined to think overall, there is an issue with some applications which 10.6.8 update breaks.
For starters my login items are:
    GrowlHelper
    Geektool
    EyeTv Helper
    Canon IJ Network scanner
    ituneshelper
    Magicprefs
    Sophosuiserver
Does anyone have any problems with any of these?
I only verified the parallels desktop 6 issue up to now.

Actually it is not-so-permitted to remove sophos for this machine, but I did it anyhow. No problem so far, but lack of evidence is not evidence of being lack of something so I am not adding it to the list yet
