Late 2013 13" MBPr unresponsive (not keyboard/mouse issue)

Hi all,
I am running a 2013 13"MBPr with 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM and 2.8i7.
I have updated the firmware to fix the keyboard/mouse issue.
My problem is the computer hanging or unresposive when using other programs.
I thought this was a problem with Chrome which I use for browsing as I had a simialr issue with my 2010 MBP 15".
But yesterday it hung in Mail.
Apple Diagnostics was fine.
I have tried uninstall and reinstall of Chrome. I run a few extensions but have reduced these as much as possible. Only use Adblocker, 1password, Papers and Quidco apps.
I will try to reinstall mavericks and see how it goes. Hopefully I get some luck.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks

Thanks Clinton,
Well It came with mavericks and I will reinstall tonight to see if it helps.
Called apple today and they suggested a reinstall.
In the mean time I have put a refund order thorugh for this computer and reorded it. So I guess this will rule out hardware issues. The only issue is the same spec computer is only expecting delviery between 9th to 16th December!!!
So may be without a computer for a while.
Happy to read that you suggest only perfection as this is what I expect.
Cheers

  • Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro - Backlit Keyboard Problems

    Hello!
I've recently been having an issue with my late 2013 rMBP and the backlit keyboard not turning on. When I press the F5 and F6 buttons to increase or decrease the brightness of my keyboard, the keyboard light icon appears on my screen and it shows that it is increasing/decreasing, but my keyboard doesn't actually do anything.
I have checked my keyboard preferences and I have turned off "Adjust Keyboard Brightness in low light", so that can't be the problem. I've restarted my laptop and it's still this way.
Does anyone know why this is happening, if it's common, or if there's a way to fix it?

Try resetting the SMC. If that doesn't work, take it to the Genius Bar. You're under warranty.

  • X100e keyboard/mouse issues

    Hi Folks,
I've been having trouble with my recently purchased x100e (running Windows 7), and I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me out. I've been looking through the forums and on the web for solutions, but no luck.
Starting a few days ago, I notice that whenever I press a button on the keyboard, a dialog box pops up to ask me if I want to display the Trackpoint Guide. This prevents me from typing anything longer than one keystroke, because the dialog box just comes back when I hit the next key regardless of pressing "Yes" or "No." Additionally, whenever I press a key, the cursor changes from the standard pointer to the scroll icon that would display if I was pressing the middle mouse/scroll button above the trackpad. Furthermore, the middle mouse/scroll button above the trackpad no longer works when pressed.
I have noticed that it is possible to disable the Trackpoint dialog box from coming up by clicking the "do not display this message" option, but the cursor issue persists no matter what. The laptop is hardly a month old. I use antivirus, anti-spyware, etc. I have tried updating the mouse/trackpoint driver and also rolling it back to the originally installed driver, but neither step seems to resolve the issue. I thought that perhaps I had inadvertently changed some of the mouse settings, so I did a factory reset on the machine. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the issue either. I did an extra factory reset just to make sure. I've run anti-virus and anti-malware scans to see if anything would show up, but nothing does. This one really has me perplexed. If there's anyone out there who could offer any advice, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks!

    Hi onlylive2x,
    Welcome to Lenovo Forums.
Could you try doing a factory reset without installing any antivirus or antispyware and see if there are any keyboard/mouse issues? This could be some software which is causing a conflict with the mouse drivers.

  • MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2013, 11.3) will not install Windows 7SP1 Pro

    Hi All,
I have had many go's at this, but I am unable to install Windows 7 bootcamp on my late 2013 15" retina macbook pro.
First I'll head off with the specs:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro11,3
      Processor Name: Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed: 2,3 GHz
      Number of Processors: 1
      Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
      L3 Cache: 6 MB
      Memory: 16 GB
      Boot ROM Version: MBP112.0138.B02
      SMC Version (system): 2.19f3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M (and the Intel of course)
      512GB SSD
      16GB USB3 thumbdrive
      Windows 7SP1-U
      Windows 8.1
    First try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484))
Let it run and run, changed the partition to 101GB, eventually at the installer screen it asks for drivers. Dunno which, but keyboard and mouse fully functional
    Second Try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484))
    Update drivers from BootCamp5.1.5621
Same issue... no drivers for, I don't know which driver
    Third Try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484))
    Update drivers from BootCamp5.1.5621
boot with alt and boot into osx
remove the partition made by assistant and redo that by making a exFAT
reboot and start windows installer from USB
Same issue... no drivers for, I don't know which driver
    Fourth try:
Same as third, but with a USB2 thumbdrive
    fail...
    Fifth try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484))
Copied Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver (read it somewhere but cant find the page anymore, downloaded from the Intel site)
Reboot, no KB/mouse so that failed
    Sixth Try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484)) but with a Windows 8.1 ISO
    Update drivers from BootCamp5.1.5621
Finally I had the opportunity to install Windows, but... v8. (and I want 7)
Let the install continue, but exited after 1 hour staring at "almost finished"
    Seventh try:
Run bootcamp assistant (Version 5.1.2 (484)) but with a Windows 8.1 ISO
    Update drivers from BootCamp5.1.5621
boot with alt and boot into osx
remove the partition made by assistant and redo that by making a exFAT
reboot and start windows installer from USB
Let the install continue, but exited after 45 minutes staring at "almost finished" (less patient this time)
    Eight try:
Same as try #2, hoping to get lucky....?
Unfortunately I can't come up with options. So any suggestions are welcome!
Maybe Win7 will never install on this
Maybe I need a different Windows 8 ISO
Can't go back to OSX 10.8 as it's not supported on this Macbook.
Ow... and why do I want Windows? Need to test several pieces of software which don't run on Mac
(also wanna play the Windows games with Steam in freetime)
    Thanks!!!!

    Sorry I missed that.
This is what I think is happening:

There are two options, keep the Time Machine HDD connected full time or turn Time Machine off and on only when you want to make the backup.

  • Which one should I buy, early or late 2013 15" mbpr refurbs?

Hi, I was looking to get a refurbished 15" mbpr and save some money.  I notice on Apple's refurb website there is a early 2013 mbpr with a faster processor (2.4GHZ i7) and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory for 40 dollars less than the late 2013 mbpr that has a slower processor (2.0GHZ i7) and Intel Iris Pro Grahpics.  I'm looking to do mostly photo shop and was wondering what's the difference between the Nvidia and Intel Iris Pro Graphics.  Also is 0.4GHZ speed going to make much of a difference beside battery life? Thank you for your input.

I'd strongly recommend going with the refurb model. You're getting a dedicated graphics card, and a 0.4 ghz boost. Now the 0.4 ghz isn't necessarily the reason to go with it, but the GT 650m sure is.

  • X201 Ultrabase Keyboard / Mouse Issues

    Hello,
I have recently deployed 3 identical X201 systems with the Ultrabase to some of my users, they are imaged systems and should all work virtually the same but one is having an odd quirk.  If he turns the system on while it is docked, the external mouse & keyboard he has connected to the Ultrabase do not respond unless he first opens the laptop and uses the normal keyboard / touchpad.  I can't see any reason for this to be happening but I am hoping someone has come across this before, hopefully it is not an issue with the dock itself.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro - ODD SEVERE POWER ISSUE?

My late 2013 retina macbook pro 13" was on safari (on battery, not plugged in) and then the screen went black. The screen went back on, then back to black, then back on, then the Macbook shut off completely.
Then, it tried rebooting twice, both failing to get past a gray screen and startup tone / chime before turning off for good. Now it won't turn on besides you seeing a gray screen and barely hearing the chime before it turning straight off again.
Any suggestions would be great! I have important files that are for a deadline within a couple days!

Try resetting the SMC. If that doesn't work, take it to the Genius Bar. You're under warranty.

  • RMBP Late 2013 Facetime HD Camera Not Working

    Hi there,
I have my rMBP since the end of December. When I got it, i needed to update the OS X to 10.9.1. I don't recall if i tried the FaceTime HD Camera later or before the system update, but i'm sure it was working back then.
Now it doesn't work. At least it isn't stable. Some time it works, but very little times. When i turn up the PhotoBooth or any other software (Skype, Messages), the greenlight starts to blink repeatedly and that's about it. I can't see nothing besides black image.
I've been reading in questions simillar to mine it this forum and others, but it seems people with a problem similiar to mine only happened in OS X 10.8.4.
I read in a post ( https://discussions.apple.com/message/24030755#24030755 ) that updating the AppleCamera.plugin, located at /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/ would do the trick. I've tried that, but with no results.
I've also performed a hardware diagnostics test. Didn't have any warning or error. Seems the hardware (the webcam in this case), is running just
fine. If anyone is interesting to perform the same test: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5781
Any suggestion or help would be very thankful.
    Regards,
    Shadas.

Apparently I was able to solve the problem. The only thing i do was to uninstall Skype. It seems to have solved. I'm not sure if this happen cause i had installed the Skype through brew cask and therefore I probably didn't have the most recent version of Skype.

  • My iMac 27' late 2013 doesn't recognize my magic mouse, as magic mouse.

the mouse working and connecting by bluetooth, but his feature (fingers stuff) dosen't work.
something weird change since it's happend, while the icon of the mouse shows on the screen when it's connect change to the usb mouse shape and not like the magic mouse.
from my impresstion, it's seems the imac recognzie that there is mouse connected, but not the type of the mouse.
    check out the attchtment pic.
i tried already to PRAM RESET
    and SMC RESET
    both didn't effect.
    im lost.

Ok, I am just trying to check out the obvious first.  Do not think I am treating you as stupid.
As you correctly say, the Mouse settings in System Preferences change depending on what kind of mouse you have.
It does appear as if the driver for the Magic Mouse has somehow been corrupted.  The most common cause is
due to third-party mouse drivers. Do you have a third-party mouse driver installed (for another pointing device, or even a generic USB input handler)? If so, uninstall these options and restart the system, and the Magic Mouse settings should reappear.
If you DON'T have any third party driver installed, then this is a web page that gives further advice:
    http://lex1963.home.xs4all.nl/mm/Magic_Mouse_troubles/Main.html
Try reinstalling the Magic Mouse update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl951
    Hope this helps.

  • Late 2013 15" rMBP Can not DL Windows drivers. Get this pop-up "This Mac only supports Windows 7. Do you want to continue?"

Whenver I try to DL the Windows drivers from Bootcamp Assistant, I get a pop up that says "This Mac only supports Windows 7. Do you want to continue?".  I click continue, but the download always fails stating "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server." and the utility shuts down.  This has happened for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 iso's.
I've chatted with support online and they basically led me through the steps of resetting the SMC and PRAM, but this has not worked.
The odd thing is, Bootcamp assistant was able to download the drivers successfully the first couple of times, only to fail during the installation of Windows, with the infamous "Can not load boot configuration" error.  Ever since those first couple of times, I am unable to succesfully download the drivers.
    Frustrating...any ideas?

The first time I installed windows 7, I had no issues what so ever. Then I decided to installed windows 8.1. So I went ahead removed the windows 7 partition via BootCamp. When I tired to install windows 8.1, I ran into the exact same issue. I went ahead and tired to reinstall windows 7 and the issue persisted.
Would be nice to find a solution for this problem.

  • Keyboard / Mouse Issues MacBook Pro

After charging my MacBook Pro overnight, I turned my computer on to find that it no longer reads the keyboard and trackpad. Any help?

    Try three things....
I know keyboard won't work but try resetting PRAM....
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Second, Restart your computer while inserting your install disk #1, and holding down the "D" key. Run the Apple Hardware Test.
If no errors show up. Restart with the CD in and hold down the "C" key. When the installation prompt starts and the Toolbar shows up on the top of your window, click I think on Tools-Disk Utility, and Reapir Permissions, on your disk. Highlight Macintosh HD on the left, and Repair Permssions below.
Lastly, if all else fails, call Apple Care.

  • Late 2013 13" rMBP not starting up/black screen

    Hi there,
so my brother's late 2013 13" rMBP does not power up properly. It is the top of the line model with the Core i7-4558U, 16GB of RAM, etc...
Pressing the power button leaves the screen powered off, and the fan possibly running, which is difficult to hear as it is so quiet... It is not a display issue tho, as it did work once and displayed the Apple and boot progress (Yosemite), but froze afterwards.
I've tried an SMC reset as explained on Apple Knowledgebase pages. That did work as expected, but the situation did not change. Others have suggested removing/disconnection the battery (which is not possible on this machine, i.e. I don't want to do it myself warranty wise).
Do you have any other suggestions?

Your best option is to make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  The evaluation will be free and then you will be in a position to make an informed decision.
If the MBP is still under warranty, it will be fixed for free.
    Ciao.

  • Noise from MacBook Pro Retina 13 late 2013

    Hi,
I wonder if noise from my MacBook Pro Retina 13 late 2013 is normal. I can hear it only in quiet room (first time I heard it in the middle of the night).  It’s very quiet noise. I don't know what to compare this noise. For me it’s sounds like clicking the spring. I can hear it when scrolling the webpage by trackpad, start mission control by gesture (or F3 key), changing the full screen apps by gesture or when minimize Safari or other apps. I think it depends on the graphic system work. It’s a little lauder when I use 1680x1050 scaled resolution than use 'best for display' resolution. I think the noise occurs when graphic system do some operation. Is it possible?
Today I was in Authorized Service Provider but technician heard nothing. There I can't hear this noise too, because this noise is very quiet and there is not total silence. Diagnostic tools show that everything is ok. But I still hear it in total quiet room. I tried to record this noise by iPhone but it can't do that.
Can you do me a favor and check this on your MacBook? Sit in totally quiet room, please. Set the scaled resolution 1680x1050 then bring ear closer to the keyboard and scroll a webpage (which have a lot of graphics) by gesture on the trackpad, start mission control or open notification center. Can you hear then any noise? Please listen carefully, because this is very quiet noise.
I’ll be very gratefully for your help. I wonder if only my MacBook making this noises or all MacBook Retina late 2013 making this.
    Regards,
    Mateusz

    Hi Mateusz,
I have the same issue on my new MBP retina 13 late 2013. It's not disturbing because I can hear it in only very quiet room and only if the content of the screen is changing (like scrolling web pages). It reminds me the sound of old 3'5'' hard discs. I first thought it's a hdd, but then realised my mac has only SSD.
I think it's a noise from the voltage regulators. This is normal for very high speed high-voltage signals.
But any way, MBP 13 late 2013 is the best laptop I ever saw
It's just silent and cool like an ipad. I wonder if it has a rotating cooler at all.
    Jon Bo
Thank you Jon Bo for your response. I agree with you. This noise is something like electronic noise, and it is related to the graphics card.
The rMBP 13 late 2013 works without any noise other then situations I’ve described above. The noise is so quiet that I can't hear it when e.g. external HDD working in the same room.

  • Bootcamp Keyboard/Mouse Mapping Issues

    Hi Apple Community,
I am using a Macbook Air running Bootcamp for Windows 7.  I am running into a few keyboard/mouse issues that I am hoping to find a solution to with the main one in the title.  Could some please help me to understand how I can perform the following actions in Windows on a MacbookAir when running Bootcamp:
    1.  "Ctrl-Shift-Z" does not work?
    2.  "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" does not work?
    3.  Is there a way to reverse the mouse direction so that it operates like the MAC OS?
    4.  Is there a way to turn down the sensitivity of the Mouse for the "Touch Click" feature?
    Thank you for the help!

I run the same system (MBA with Win7), except that I wiped my mac partition out entirely.
2)Ctrl-Alt-Delete works fine on my machine. I can't imagine  why that wouldn't be working. Have you checked the User Accounts control  panel to see if it's disabled somehow? Does Ctrl-Shift-Esc still bring  up the task manager?
3)Have you tried using the "Mouse" control panel regarding number 3, which lets you reverse the mouse buttons? Assuming that's what you meant by reversing directions.
4)Regarding number 4, I would say that if it's too sensitive, your best bet is to just turn it off in the "Boot Camp" control panel. I don't think there's a way to adjust the sensitivity.
I think I have been of very limited help. I hope some other people jump in on this one.

Could you replace your batteries in a 13in MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 yourself?
If not, could Apple replace them at a fee or could I go to a third party shop?
