Launching Java GUI from forms

Hi,
I have the following questions regarding launching a Java GUI from forms:
1)Is it possible to launch a Java GUI on client(web) side from forms? (i.e. click on a button should launch a Java GUI instead of forms)
2)Can this Java GUI share the same DB connection used by forms for any DB operations?

I was able to bring up the Java GUI. Now, I want to access the database from this GUI. What approach should I have to take. [A sample SQLJ based GUI application is working fine on the console]

Now here's the interesting thing: in the constructor of my Java class there's a call to pack() to initiate my Java GUI. When I remove that call everything works fine (but then I haven't got a GUI though). setVisible(true) in the Java code also gives that problem.
Has C++ or the Xm library some troubles with the Java GUI? Or what the hell is going wrong?
PS: On Solaris, the very same code works perfectly...

I really need a solution.
Is it possible it has something to do with threads?
Do I have to do AttachCurrentThread or something like that? Is that necessary?

Accessing Java Classes from Forms

Is is possible to access a Java class from Forms? I have been
creating an Active X control that returns a Java object, and from
that I can call methods on that object, but I would really like
to do that without having and Active X control in the mix. Any
suggestions?

Importing java class from forms 6i

I want to import very simple java class from forms 6i, i went to programs then i choose import java classes, then it gives me error message PDE-UJ1001 failed to create the jvm.

Launching Swing GUI from Oracle Forms Web Based

Hi there,
I have oracle forms which call a shell script which initiates the java swing gui. I am using host command to run this script. When I am doing it on unix server everything works fine. Now we want same application on web now i am getting problem. The host command is not working in this case. It can not launch the java gui. Can anybody tell me what will be the nice approach to do it.

Hi,
you'll have to create a Java Bean in Forms that calls the runtime. You can also use webutil, available on otn to call a client side host command.

The problem is that I want to launch my java code with all reports and hide it from application users. Is it possible?

You can use the standard JMS Session API available to create a Queue or Topic identity object.
i.e. Queue _myQueue = _session.createQueue("xxxxxxxxxxxxxx");Note that while this is a portable API, the syntax of the name parameter may not be portable across providers.
Further, this only creates the Destination identity object and not the physical Destination object.
For Sun MQ, when this identity object is used to create a producer or consumer, the physical destination is 'auto-created' if the broker is operating with factory defaults.
Other providers may not support the 'auto-creation' facility or even if supported, it may be turned off by the administrator, in which case the application needs to handle those cases to be a provider-independant JMS application.

How to call Java class from Forms 6i?

Hi friends,
I need to call a Java class from my Forms 6i application.
(It runs under WIndows XP. It's a client/server application and I have only the client and the Form builder installed on my PC)
I don't know almost anything about Java's world so your help would be very useful for me.
Could you tell me exactly what i have to do?
I've read in metalink several Notes, but they supposed that the Java architecture is already installed in the computer.... I only have the default installation of Developer 6i... so I would need to know:
- How to install/configure the neccesary to execute Java classes without problem
- How to invoke the .class from Forms 6i.

You need to to install JDK 1.2.2 to run the Java Importer. And set the PATH's

1. Download and install the JDK 1.2.2.

2. Assuming the JDK 1.2.2 is installed in c:\jdk1.2.2 directory and the JRE in
C:\PROGRA~1\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.2 directory; ORACLE_HOME=C:\Dev6iR2.
Set the PATH to
set PATH=c:\jdk1.2.2\bin;C:\PROGRA~1\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.2\bin;C:\PROGRA~1\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.2\bin\classic;%PATH%
( If you are using ias9i then the JDK 1.2.2 comes with the ias installtion ,

(If you do not set the CLASSPATH correctly you will get the error
PDE-UJI002 Unable to find the required java importer classes)
4. Now run the Forms Builder by using the command.
C:\Dev6iR2\bin\ifbld60.exe
Now the Java Importer Should Run fine.

I have a requirement to launch a Java WebDynpro from ABAP code. Has anyone done this? If so, does anyone know of documentation/sample code or at least an ABAP class/function group I could look at?

The webdynpro application can be triggered simply by a URL, so this is really easy in ABAP.
All you need to know is the URL for the WDJ application running on your java engine.

Need Help Launching Network Documents from Forms 6i

Hello,
I am trying to launch a network document from Forms 6i running in Oracle Applications 11.5.10.
I have a column in on a form that shows document locations and I am having the user double click on the column in order to lauch the document. I am using the FND_UTILITIES.OPEN_URL package. This works great for web sites but not for internal network documents.
Examples.
Works Fine:
FND_UTILITIES.OPEN_URL ('HTTP://WWW.ORACLE.COM',_blank)
Does Not Work
FND_UTILITIES.OPEN_URL ('\\netwin\ERP\Documents\Setups.doc',_blank)
Now if I open an Internet Explorer window and paste the not working address into it it does pull up the document so I know the address is valid.

What's the best way to launch a Java application from a Windows XP desktop without the console showing?

If your class Main.class is part of a package, you cannot invoke Main directly without providing the package. You may have to include the -classpath option (depending of the working directory). The default value for -classpath is "."
You should try:
javaw myPackage.Main
(if the working directory is parent to directory 'myPackage')
or
javaw -classpath .;c:\xxx\xxx\. myPackage.Main
"c:\xxx\xxx\" is your root package's parent directory. Note that you may have to double quote the specified path.

The OLTP application we are planning to build has lot of gui e.g
tabs, drag and drop etc. Our aim is to make it web enabled but
the network bandwidth available is small 16 - 64K . So even
thoughwe plan toi use applet , we seriuosly doubt how good it
will perform on such low network bandwidth. [The system will
have 100 users]
Q1. What will be a reasonable bandwidth to run an oltp
application (say maintenance )

deploying our application in client server mode, which can
easily be web enabled in future. But we also have to integrate
visual interfaces like gantt chart, which are not available with
forms. We plan to use third party java component (e.g ILOG
jviews), so that in future we can easily web enable the entire

Q2. Can we run forms with java bean in client server mode? If
not, what are the products to be installed on each machine to

Java from cmd and Java called from Forms Services

I apologize in advance if this is not place where i did must question.
Anyway this is:
From cmd on win xp If I run java -version I get:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>java -version
java version "1.4.2_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_06-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_06-b03, mixed mode)
While i installed JVM 1.6 and this is called from my forms services(OC4J)
What I missing?

*%JAVA_HOME\bin%* isn't the correct way to add the reference to the JAVA_HOME variable. You want *%JAVA_HOME%\bin*, notice the closing % sign comes after the name of the variable you created earlier (*JAVA_HOME*) and that causes its value to be prepended to \bin.

Launch Java WebDynpro from R/3 with SSO

Have a situation where I need to launch a Java WebDynpro application from directly from R/3 via the URL. I know this can be done via cl_gui_frontend_services=>execute, however, I do not know the implications in an SSO environment. If the R/3 system issues a logon ticket, does this automatically get passed to the WebDynpro application, or is this more involved?

Hi Todd,
I believe the whole perpose of SSO is to free the user from remembering mutliple userids and passwords.
Once logged in, I guess you should be able to access URLs cause the system authenticates you in the underlying R/3 system.
There is some additional config to be done, you can check the following link, I think its what you are looking for.

in Planning 11.1.1.3 how can we launch the business rules associated to the data forms using the task lists?
I know we can build a task that launches a business rule but we don't know how to pass parameters/members to the BR while if it is launched from the data form the parameters are passed from the form itself...
