  • Connect to MS SQL server from OWB on Linux platform

    Hi,
I want to connect to MS SQL server through OWB, on Linux platform.
I suppose I would use JDBC driver, and Heterogeneous services. Is that possible?
I did not see anything on JDBC driver for MS SQL server for Linux platform from Oracle.
Also, I was wondering is Oracle Gateway 10g for Linux a way to connect to MSSQL server?
    Any leads would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ani

    Hi,
This quite an actual topic for myself, so I decided to take some time to collect some information.
    Start at:
    * Oracle Generic Connectivity and Oracle Transparent Gateway - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/gateways/gateways_fov.html
You can use the free Heterogenous Services component named Generic Connectivity for connecting to SqlServer over ODBC. You will need to find (or purchase?) a third-party ODBC driver for SqlServer for Linux, e.g. from www.datadirect.com. Setting this up will allow you to define a databaselink to the SqlServer. Open Gateways implements a limited set of the oracle SQL, so you will have to find out what is possible and what not.

    * Generic Connectivity Available on Linux x86 with 10g - https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/showdoc?db=NOT&id=261726.1
You can also use the Transparent Gateway for SqlServer (HS), which is about EURO 12000 per computer(!). This gives you a full implementation of Oracle SQL and you can access the SqlServer like it was Oracle.
You can also install Microsofts JDBC drivers into Oracle's JVM, and connect through JDBC to SqlServer. This is however not supported by Oracle, but it will work. See:

  • Unable to launch application on Linux machine

    Hi,
We have a Java based product developed as desktop application. This product has a tree structure built-in. and while connecting to few of the nodes, we are getting the following error: "*Cannot write XdndAware property*".
    Note:
    1. We are running the application on a Linux machine.
    2. We are using JNLP to launch the application.
    3. Only few nodes are causing this issue.
    4. Tried putting -DsuppressSwingDropSupport=true in JNLP file, but no progress.
    5. This happens on JDK1.6.0_23 and above
Can someone help us to resolve this issue.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    KNP

Let me explain my current requirement.
    1. All the client jars should be downloaded every time I click a link (as of now its a JNLP link, but this can change).
    2. And this should be platform independent
    3. I stated in the earlier description I should be able to pass arguments (suppressSwingDropSupport, etc) to VM to resolve the actual issue.
Can someone please suggest any other approach?
I have one more generic question: Can I write my own JNLP defining XSD & DTD, so that it can accept all the arguments whichever I can pass to the VM? If so, how to do this?
    Please respond

  • Launch Openscript on linux 64 bit.

    Hi All,
I've worked on OATS in windows environment most of the time. I've created a VM on my local machine which has oracle linux 5 on that and installed OATS 64 bit for linux, the latest version. I want to launch openscript on the linux environment and I'm unable to do that. Could some one help me in this issue.
Also, I've tried exporting the load testing scripts from windows box to linux environment. I've logged into OLT and running the scripts. gives me errors(I assume this is because I copied the files from windows environment and trying to use them on Linux machine). Any help would be appreciated reg this concern.
    Thanks,
    Nags.

OpenScript is only supported on Windows as far as I'm aware.

  • OWB at Linux 64 Bit Environment

    Hi All,
    Iam new to Linux Environment.
Our client is recently started updating OS from Windows to Linux.
I would like to open Design centre in Linux server remotely from my desktop. Could you please provide steps?
    Regards,
    Ava

Yes, you can run OWB client directly on the server.
If you have a linux workstation, you can run Xwindows applications on server, and have the application window displayed on client!!! It is called X forwarding, and this is a feature that Xwindows had for years.
Connect to your server using ssh with -X switch, eg.
    [alex@alex]$ ssh -X oracle@myserver
once connected, go to the owb directory and run the client, which will display the application window on the CLIENT (your workstation), eg.
    [oracle@myserver ~]$ cd /oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/owb/bin/unix/
    [oracle@myserver unix]$ ./owbclient.sh
This way requires no additional installation on your machine, but OWB running over ssh can be a bit laggy. However, it is very usable. You can try to speed up the connection by using a cypher that is somewhat less CPU intensive, ie arcfour. The login would be then:
    [alex@alex]$ ssh -c arcfour -X oracle@myserver
Keep in mind, that running OWB client on the sever this way requires 500MB to 1GB of RAM more on the server (the client application is executing there).
The other option to run OWB on an linux 64bit workstation is to install the OWB 64bit (if you want to run 11g you can install the complete database server software, which comes with OWB) and run it normally on your workstation. This effectively limits the distribution you can use to red-hat, centos or fedora.
I'm running OWB 10.2 64bit on my fedora 64bit workstation for 2 years without any problems. It may not be certified, but runs without a glitch.

  • Hi!!Does anyone know how can I programm a vi to launch Labview in Linux?

I want to build an aplication to launch Labview. But the problem is that I am working with Linux, so I can't use Active X to do that. How can I do it? Is there VI server in Labview for Linux?
and if is there Vi server, how can I use this, to launch Labview?
    Thanks!!
    Graci

    Wiebe,
You are absolutely correct. The command line options are the same under Linux as windows.
You could then write a shell script that will launch labview with a particular VI.
Or, you could compile a C/C++ program that calls "exec" to launch labview, and again specify an optional VI argument.
And, VI server works the same under LabVIEW for Linux as it does for windows. But, in order for the VI server to launch a VI, LabVIEW already has to be running This means you could create a VI that uses VI server, and compile that VI into an executable. You can then run the resulting executable which will be made up of the VI that uses VI server.
But your question is a little bit vague. What exactly is your goal after "launching LabV
IEW." You said that you want "an application to launch LabVIEW." Which application? Do you have the source code? What is it written in?

If im not mistaken, the error is because you do not have your computer name in your host file.
    Generally this file is /etc/hosts
But this location and name varies on Linux Distors.

  • Launch Browser on Linux using BasicService

    Hi,
I was trying to launch the default browser to show a web page from my webstart deployed application on Linux (RedHat 8.0).
    Used the example code ...
    // Lookup the javax.jnlp.BasicService object
    BasicService bs = (BasicService)ServiceManager.lookup("javax.jnlp.BasicService");
    // Invoke the showDocument method
return bs.showDocument(new URL(HELP_URL));It just returned false.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Java Web Start assumes that you have a Netscape browser installed on Linux, and that it can be started using the command "netscape". If this is not the case, then you need to change the start command which is defined in the preferences.
Start the javaws application and select File|Prefereneces, and enter your browser start command - e.g. konqueror

  • Error launching binary on Linux-Kernel 2.4

I compile my source on a Linux-Kernel 2.6.13-15.8-smp with f95 and try to launch it on a Linux-Kernel 2.4.21-203-default and get the following error message:
    ./hello: /lib/i686/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by ./hello)
    ./hello: /lib/i686/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.3.2' not found (required by ./hello)
I know that my libc and libpthread are to old,
but how can do this without updating my libs and without static linking?
Is there any option in the compiler that helps me?
    Thanx
    Jochen

My own opinion is that Sun could do more to support making this work in
our compiler, linker and OS. But that won't really help Linux users except by
providing a model of something they might want to emulate.
If the linker complained about "Function foobaz not found in libc" then at least
the user has a fighting chance to go remove the call to foobaz in their
    application.
The short answer is what Steve said. We don't officially support that
on Solaris, and you should expect some amount of problems with Linux.

  • Cannot launch OWB Client 9.0.3.36.3

I applied the 9.0.3.36.3 patch Archive successfully without any problems. Post installation, the OWB Client hangs without even bringing up the login dialog box. My desktop OS is Windows XP. Before this patch application, there was no problem with OWB Client. Anyone had this problem or know of this issue?
    Thanks,
    Chida

    Hi Chida,
What happens if you try to start the client using the .Bat file? It is in your OWB home, owb\bin\wind32
This gives you and us an idea on what is happening. If you get to the text in the dos box, please copy it and add it to the forum. We'll take a look at it.

  • OWB 10g Linux

    Hi,
Does anyone know where I can find information about developing on Linux and importing MDL files on other operatings systems? We would like to develop on Linux but deploy on Sun Solaris; is this possible?

We did development in Window XP and then migrate the .MDL file to Linus, with no problem. I believe that your migration across operating system should be fine.

  • Connect to MSSQL from OWB Linux.

    Hi,
This is almost an embarrasing question to ask because I should be able to find this information but Alas! such is life.
So here goes, I want to be able to connect from my OWB 10gR2 on Linux to Microsoft SQL Server on some windows box. I went into MY_PROJECT->Databases->Non-Oracle->SQL Server and hit create.
I got details for a location that I filled as follows -
    User Name: username
    Password: password
    Host: Host\Instance
    Port: 1433
    Service Name: Instance
    Use Global Name: unchecked
    Schema: username
    When I test this, I get -
ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 65535
    ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from OWB_1087
Am I missing something? Do I need to do something else? I saw this posting -
Connect to MS SQL server from OWB on Linux platform
    but it seems dated.
I don't know if there are easier ways to connect from OWB Linux to MSSQL Windows in the newer versions. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I recommend watching this viewlet: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/sql_server_source_all/sql_server_source_all_viewlet_swf.html
It shows how to setup connections to SQL Server. However, there is one major change. The viewlet shows how to do this on Windows and you need to do this on Linux. The only step that changes is step 1: setting up the ODBC driver. You will need to find a Linux ODBC driver and driver manager for SQL Server and get that setup. After that you can use the viewlet to setup the Heterogeneous Services.
