Layout for printing a book?

Does a page ordering template exist for Pages for printing a book with two pages per side of 8X10 in. paper (printing both sides) so that the pages will be ordered correctly when the sheets are stacked, folded and stapled? I want to publish poetry chapbooks using ten to twelve sheets of paper. I realize I shall need to trim the edge opposite the fold once folded. Or, is there a better way?

Welcome to Apple Discussions
This is one of the frequent answers I post. There are a few ways to do this. The first two involve setting your Pages document in File > Page Setup… to landscape orientation. I originally wrote this for Pages 2. In Pages 3, use the page layout mode for #s 1a & 1b.
1a - Use linked text boxes. This is easier done with the layout showing. First you need to add a page break to have two pages. Click in the body area & then Insert > Page Break. Now click outside the layout area to enter object mode & click the "T" in the tool bar or Insert > Text to create a text box & type something in it. This is to keep the box from disappearing if you click elsewhere & the text can be replaced later. If you already have some text to paste in you can just paste while in object mode & a text box containing your text will be created. You will now need to click outside the layout again & drag the cursor toward the text box to select it. You can now position the first text box in the lower right of your 2-page document. It is easier to see where it goes if you have the document set up with 2 columns. Click on the blue-outlined tab at the lower right of the text box to create a new of the same size & move the box to the upper left. Repeat for a box for the upper right & again for the lower right. You will now have 4 linked text boxes.
1b - Start as in 1a creating a 2-page document with 2 columns in landscape orientation. For this one you will use the body text area. Just type or paste your text in as normal, starting in the upper left. When you have your text done, cut all of the text in the first column (upper left), insert a column break after the last character on the now lower left column & paste the cut text after it in the now lower right column.
Neither one of these will let you automatically use page numbers because Pages "sees" each page & you actually have 2 pages per page.
2 - Use Cocoa Booklet to create a booklet with any number of pages (best in a multiple of 4). Start with your Pages document in Legal size & larger than normal font size. Export the Pages document to a PDF & then drag the PDF to the icon of Cocoa Booklet. It will create a new PDF in booklet form.

  • Specs exist somewhere for printing iPhoto books?

Are there specs available somewhere that detail how the books are printed (paper weight etc.) and how they prefer files? i've read that files should be in RGB form but the printing is in cmyk, are they converting it? if my originals are in cmyk why not leave it that way? (this is for a portfolio, not a photo book of my digital photos).
    thanks

  • Switch from OINV to ODRF in Crystal Report layout for print the Invoice?

    Hi,
I have imported in Sap Business One some standard report developed by Sap with Crystal Report (like Sales Invoice).
I have try to print my Invoices and all is OK, then I have try to print a Draft Invoice and, even in this case, is all ok. Then I have open the Crystal Report designer for this print module, and the entry point is the OINV table. How can he print succesful the Draft Invoice (that is in the ODRF table ObjType = 13)? Formula Field? I don't understand!!
    Thank for the help!!
    Marco

    Hi Marco,
You only need a single Crystal report for this. Base it on a stored procedure which has two INT type parameters @DocKey and @ObjectId. Within your SQL create IF blocks to handle different @ObjectId values:
IF @ObjectId = 13 then use the invoices tables OINV/INV1 etc.
IF @ObjectId = 112 then use the draft tables ODRF/DRF1 etc.
Don't forget to put the @ symbol at the end of the parameter in the report itself. That is all that is needed to create a single report that works for both added invoices and draft invoices. You could extend the SQL to handle other @ObjectId values like 14 for AR Credit Notes and so on.
    Regards,
    Andrew.

  • Which printers are used by apple for printing photo books

I was wondering how I had to sharpen my images for photobook printing using aperture. Can I download there printerprofiles anywhere?

I'm back from the Apple store and ran setup on the new machine.  When I tried to transfer my old information, the setup would recognize my external hard drive.  I called Apple and they said setup only recognizes Time Machine or other real backups of a machine.
They were great anyway and walked me through the manual process of dragging and dropping my users folders to recreate my old machine on the new AIr.
    It turned out ok.

  • Customizable layouts for books?

Is it possible to customize page layouts for books in iPhoto? For example -- it drives me crazy that there are layouts with 4 or 6 photos but none with 5. Or, that all the photos in a 8 page layout have to be exactly the same size and that you can't adjust the sizes of pictures in the layouts. Is it possible to create your own layouts for the iPhoto books? Or at least adjust picture size, etc. in the existing layouts?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. No, there are no such themes or layouts. What some do is to create a full page layout in a 3rd party editor like Photoshop Elements that can handle layers and use it on a 1 photo per page layout. However, any frames or special borders won't be easily created.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Printing address book on day-timer portable page

Anyone have any suggestions for the page layout to print address book to Day-Timer Portable page format? They don't give any options (like Avery 5160, etc). My wife still likes her addresses printed out for her Day-Timer book. The old app that she previously used on her old Mac no longer works on the new OS on her MacAir.

I used to have the Palm Desktop application on my old Mac and that what we used to printout the Day-Timer Portable page format. Of course the Palm Desktop app no longer works on the new Mac OS. I guess if I could get the page layout for that app, I could duplicate the layout.

  • Microsoft Word- printing a books?

I can't seem to figure out to get my Microsoft word to print a book. On a Windows PC, there is the option to print a document in booklet form, where the pages are doubled and you can print entire books this way.
i see a lot of questions about Aperture in relation to book printing, but I don't want to pay for printing my books nor do I want to have to save it in PDF. What a giant pain. Am I just too daft to find the option for printing bookfolds in Microsoft Word or was Apple being a greedy monopolizing cretin by removing that option and forcing us to buy Aperture?
P.S. If anyone has any freeware that doesn't require PDF conversion and is simple, please do tell. Thanks.

Office comes with extensive help. I suggest you take the time to look in the help files for the answer. Word is quite capable of printing in book form but your document layout needs to be properly configured.

  • Page Layout when Printing slides from Keynote

I don't often print my Keynote presentations, but I would like to be able to print FOUR slides on one sheet (landscape format) with one slide in each quadrant or corner. All I can select --as far as I can tell-- is a single column with all 4 slides minutely scaled down the page. The slides are far toooooooo small to read. CAN I CHANGE THE LAYOUT FOR PRINTING SO THAT HAVE 2 COLUMNS OF 2 SLIDES EACH? Many thanks for your suggestions!

When I do Print > Handouts > 4 slides per page, it puts the slides stacked on top of one another (ie 1 column of slides, 4 rows). I assume you would want to have 2 columns of slides and two rows. I don't know how to do this in Keynote, but if you are in Keynote, just do a File > Export > PDF. If you are printing in color, I'd select Image Quality > Best. Once you have the PDF of the presentation, open it with Preview. From Preview, do a File > Print. When the Print "window" comes up, you select your landscape orientation. At the bottom of the window, you will see a dropdown option that says "Images per page" and select 4. This should do the trick.
Be careful when you do the export from Keynote to PDF. There are a lot of options to include or exclude page numbers, builds, etc. in the PDF.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto - uploading photo books for printing

iPhoto crashes when trying to upload a Photobook for printing...driving me mad!
    any ideas follks.
The Photobook assembles, but wont upload.
    Thanks in advance..

This was an excellent suggestion previewing the book at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 -
and then booting up the computer in safe mode. When I did this I found that several of the fonts had changed and would have ruined the book as they were too big or small or didn't fit the text boxes. I repeated this process until I was satisfied. The pdfs were fine.
Best of all the book was printed exactly as I laid it out.
Apple's turnaround was amazing: just over a week! Really good for getting a book to a small West Coast island in Canada.
Even though Apple's book production is very good it is limited in layouts for each style. BLURB offers a bigger range of layout options as well as a choice of printing papers which is a nice touch. I didn't use them this time because some posters had had delays in getting their books and I had to meet an birthday deadline.
Kudos to Apple for making the book in such a short time.

  • Error message when uploading book for printing. All images are jpg and rgb. Could they be too large to upload? What size is required and how do I reduce size in Aperture?

I receive an error message when I upload my book for printing. Not sure what the problem is. All my images are jpg and rgb. Could they be too large as it takes about 15minutes to upload to Apple. How do I reduce the size of the image in Aperture?

    Hi Leonie,
    Thanks for your reply.
Error message below. The preview is fine . I can discount the first 2messages as its a new computer so plenty of disk space and upload doesn't seem to be interrupted. I have uploaded to iphoto before. have tried to upload 3times with the same error message. I had to photo my slides with a Kaiser Baas photo maker , which apparently doesn't scan but takes photos in megapixels of the slides. I am wondering now if the format is incompatible though they are jpg files or the colour type wrong. The image files are  around 1-3 mb each and  72 ppi. I think  I will now scan them properly with a scanner to 300dpi anyway to improve quality.
Apple  talks about image files not being too big for uploading but gives no sizing of what too big is?
    Error message
    1. Upload Error. Loss of connection or file corruption during order upload may cause an incomplete order. Resubmitting your order usually resolves this issue.
    2. Low Disk Space. If your computer is running on low disk space, your files may be assembled incorrectly. Create more space by deleting unused files.
    3. Unreadable PDF file or image files. Files are sometimes assembled incorrectly due to CMYK or Grayscale color space. Use the RGB color space for best results.

  • I had ordered a photo book print two years back. I want to reorder the same book again now. However, I have lost the album project in iphoto. Is there any way to see my print order history and reorder the same book for print ?

I had ordered a photo book print two years back. I want to reorder the same book again now. However, I have lost the album project/photos from iphoto.
Is there any way to see my print order history and reorder the same book for print ?

No.  Apple only keeps the pdf file for a book for 30 days.  Without the library and book project you won't be able to reorder the same book.

  • Need advice on "best" way to prepare book cover for printing

This newbie has created a front cover, back cover, and spline in Photoshop Elements with multiple layers consisting of a background image of a mountain, text, and on the front cover, an airplane. I've combined the three parts into a wraparound cover within a single indd file, which I've exported to PDF for upload to Amazon's CreateSpace (CS) for a print-on-demand book.
CS instructions say to "flatten" the cover. I've researched the term and found forum discussions that mention "raster" and "vector" and the pros and cons of different options for preparing a layered image for printing. I'm aware of the cautions about flattening being an irreversible process, and to never do that to a master copy. Beyond that, to say I'm confused would be an understatement.
I realize this is an InDesign forum, but I'm seeking advice on whether there are actions I should take in Elements before placing the three parts of the cover into the InDesign document for converting to PDF. For example, should I flatten them within Elements before placing them in the InDesign document, then convert to PDF? Or is it better to do that on the complete cover within InDesign?
Any assistance on clearing up this fog would be appreciated.

The print-on-demand site's instruction to flatten really has no direct relationship to InDesign, Peter. They don't say anything about what application you should use prior to creating the pdf, and that's what generated my original plea for help as to whether it would be best to flatten the individual images within PSE before placing them into InDesign, wait until they are combined and then do it, or if it is even necessary to do that at all.
I've been doing some additional reading on the CreateSpace forum and found a couple of very detailed (translation: too detailed for me) discussions on the differences in the output based on how you tell Adobe to create the pdf. I also found the following buried in the Help section:
Check the PDF settings that will be used to create your PDF file. If available, select "PDF/X-1a," "High-Quality Print" or "Press Quality" from the list of presets. If your system allows, make sure the following settings are chosen. Any other settings should be left to default in most cases.
                      Fonts and images are embedded.
Bookmarks, annotations, and comments are disabled.
Document security (any type) is not used.
PDF/X format is used. PDF/X is preferred, but if you are submitting non-PDF/X files (for example, PDF/A), any comments, forms, or other non-printing objects could be removed during our review process.
                      Transparent objects are flattened.
Spreads and printer's marks are disabled.
Downsampling, or decreasing resolution, of images is disabled.
                      Bleeds are enabled (if applicable).
Click "Export" or "OK" in the export dialog box.
Once created, make sure to open the PDF file to see that it appears as you intended. Otherwise, make the necessary adjustments in the native document and re-create the PDF file.
The mention of "High Quality Print" in the first line and the fact that it was InDesign's default setting for export left me with the impression that I didn't need to do anything other than export the cover and it would be in compliance with the requirements. Then when I read on the other forum about what each of the settings does to output, and all this discussion about which setting is best, I wasn't sure if the comment about flatttening applied to my output pdf or not.
As for bleed, yes, and I hope my math is correct in calculating the spline width for cream b&w paper, 374 total pages, trim size of 5.25x8, and a bleed of .125" all the way around, which increases the InDesign document by .25" in width and height over the trim size. I fully expect to have to do all that again, but such is life in the fast lane.

  • How to save a book created in Aperture 3 for future uploading for printing?

How to you save a book created in Apeture 3 to send for printing several months after creating book.  I've create several books, had them printed and get request for reprints.  I don't want to keep the photo files in Aperture for space considerations.

If you are printing through Apple then you have to send the order using Aperture. You could export the book as a new library and archive that to save space in the original library. Keep im mind that exporting this way will not remove the originals from the Aperture library, you will need to remove those yourself.
If you are not using Apple to print the book you would need to save whatever it was (pdf file?) that you sent to be printed the first time.
